My new favorite Indy patio! Natural State Provisions is really cool inside, but they also have a great outdoor space and even a dog park. The patio had tons of dogs, good shade coverage, and even a corner with chalk and toys for kids. It was a great mix of young families enjoying that and other groups there enjoying their food bar menu. Besides just the space the food is great! We tried the burgers, wings, chicken sandwich, fries and Mac n cheese. We really liked everything but think the double smash burger stood out the most! It was a beautiful weather night so very busy. Our order had a mishap and the restaurant went above and beyond to handle it which was much appreciated! Definitely worth it to come eat or just even come enjoy a drink on their patio. Natural State Provisions is now working as a coffee bar on certain days/times so my friend and I went to check it out and get a cup of coffee. The ambience is really cute and quaint and does work as a bar AND cafe. However, the menu was super limited for the coffee and it also took over 20 minutes to get our coffee. I understand this is new though and they might still be working some stuff out. I do really like the idea and see the potential, but I would love a more expansive menu and faster service! read more

There was a Dj booth, hard seltzer samplings from a local craft cocktail company, and indoor/outdoor seating. Also a well kept dog park for those who want to sit on the patio with their pups. We headed to the counter and determined to start with cheese curds and I opted for the catfish basket. I wasn't originally going to get a beer but the bartender gave a recommendation that I just had to try. We headed outside to one of the picnic tables and waited for our food which didn't take too long. The cheese curds were crunchy and delicious. The catfish breading was incredible flavorful. I gave this place a four star review a few months ago instead of a five star review due to some confusion with their seating procedures and some inattentiveness at the bar. I have returned a couple of times since and have noticed that the restaurant has placed a sign near the entrance that informs customers that they can seat themselves and order at the bar. Kudos to management for listening to feedback! And on my most recent visit, I noticed the staff seemed to have more defined duties plus two bartenders instead of the one who seemed a little overwhelmed when I left my first review. Whether it was my feedback, other customers, or their own staff, I appreciate this place taking the time to look at what could be improved. On this visit, I tried the fried catfish basket which was my first time having catfish. I also shared onion rings with a friend. NSP does a phenomenal job with the breading on their fried food. Crispy, crunchy with a tender interior. I loved my meal and the tartar sauce was great, too. After sharing my sauce-satisfaction with the bartender, I was informed that NSP makes all of it's own sauces in house, and that the ranch is amazing. We ordered some to try with our onion rings and I have to say that I couldn't imagine one ranch recipe being any better or worse than another, this was really f-ing good ranch. I came to NSP on probably one of their slower Saturdays (shoutout to the rain) but I still had a great time! With a spacious outdoor patio, I imagine NSP is quite the hopping experience. The inside has this really cozy feel that in some way reminds me of a basement bar space that makes me feel like I'm at one of my family's famous get-togethers. Service is rather fast, with my mom and I getting our food within 10 minutes of ordering. Ordering is done by walking up to the stations at the bar, which might be easy to miss if you don't see the signage overhead. We ordered... Sober Shirley ($9): mocktail time!! This drink is their rendition of an Aperol spritz, and I would have to guess and say it's a good rendition - I have no frame of reference. This drink is more on the bitter side. Single twitty burger ($11(?) with fries upgrade): this is a classic burger with all the fixings, and the right size. This is a smash burger so it gets nice and crispy but still remains sufficiently juicy. Fries are also nice and fluffy. Chicken tenders and fries platter (not shown, $15(?)): I didn't try this as this was my mom's order, but it looked really good and will certainly warrant my next visit! read more

I had to write an update from my last review because I've been to NSP multiple times since then and my experiences have been very different. Pretty much every time I go here, they are out of a multiple food items and usually at least one of the kegs. Last time I went a month or so ago, they were out of 3 kegs. I really hate dogging on the bartenders because I know how hard the service industry is, but there is simply no sense of urgency from the staff and they always seem very frazzled. I'll wait 15 or 20 minutes for my check when my food is all gone and my beer is long empty. I usually will only order one round because I don't want to wait again. If this was a one time situation, I would let it slide but this has happened on multiple occasions. I will continue to come to this place because it's so cool and has serious potential to be a long standing business in Indy. I think it just needs a little more organization. read more

I've long wanted to try Natural State Provisions and I was excited to have a chance after work tonight to stop by on an unseasonably warm day that allowed me to take advantage of outside dining. There's quite a bit to like here, though I'll admit I found this initial visit a little confusing. Parking is primarily on the street. While this can be challenging as a wheelchair user, the street's relatively quiet and I had no difficulty upon arrival or when I ended up leaving. The street is also fairly level and this made getting in and out of my chair fairly easy. There are multiple places to get on the sidewalk that are level to the ground. Natural State has a concrete ramp leading into a side entrance - it looked like there were two entrances that did have steps, however, the ramp is very nicely done and definitely ADA compliant. The single glass door into the bar area isn't too heavy. There's no real signage indicating how their process goes. It took me several minutes to get noticed and over time I figured it out. You order at the bar, they give you a buzzer (helpful if you're eating outside), and then there's an area next to the bar where you pick up food. In my case, one of the employees was super helpful once I got noticed and also helped carry the food outside once it was ready. The vibe is ultra-casual and you can tell that a good majority of the customers who were there were regulars. There are dining room tables in the bar area (both high-top and standard) in addition to the bar. There's also the side food area, though it was not open tonight. The outside area is very accessible and utilizes picnic tables. It's all quite roomy and very comfortable. There's a small dog park right next to the outside dining area. I get the sense it belongs to Natural State, though I wasn't sure. Regardless, several of the folks dining outside had dogs with them. It was honestly super cool. I would easily return just to experience eating outside with the dogs. Everyone was friendly, employees and customers, though I seemed to be one of the older people there. Several people also had children. It was just a nice vibe and a cool experience after work. I ordered a double smash burger combo with onion rings and an iced tea. It took several minutes to prepare, but it arrived as ordered and was super delicious. The menu leans toward southern dining. While several restaurants say they have smash burgers, this was a serious smash burger. I also like that you can also get a PBR with your combo, though I didn't do this. There was no rushing people out and it was pretty clear this is a gathering spot. I went back in to pay, though they had trouble finding my ticket and had to ring it up again. It was $16.90 without tip and that was a good deal considering quality and quantity of the food. I didn't get an iced tea refill, a bit of a bummer, but overall this was a solid experience. I'm honestly torn on the review here. I could easily go 4.5 I think, however, with the confusing start, lack of clarity about the bill, and lack of iced tea refill I can't quite go 5 stars this time around. That said, I really liked this place and will likely end up forking over the 5th star upon future visits now that I know the routine here. Discovered this fun spot from a Yelp Elite event about a year ago, but had to come back when I heard they were having bingo on Wednesdays along with $1 wings! I really enjoyed the dry rub, and the wings are a good size and mix of drums vs flats. Their cheese curds are not on special, but totally worth the $10-hefty portion, perfectly fried, and they're not over-breaded. Hands down the best cheese curds I've had in Indy. Service was friendly and attentive at the bar. If you are coming for Bingo, just know it goes quickly. They start at 7 and were wrapped up by 8, but get through about the same amount of games as other places because they go through numbers quickly and don't take extended breaks between rounds. When cruising Yelp looking for a local burger on a Sunday, this recommendation was a total hit! It was nice to be able to dine somewhere downtown and not be charged for parking as we found plentiful spots in the street. A diamond in the rough, you can't miss the attention to detail that starts on the exterior. We quickly noticed the large outdoor patio adjacent to a dog park that is fenced in and offers a water hose for its furry patrons. We headed inside and had to take a moment to admire all the details. Really lovely artwork, antiques, and NSP swag if you'd like a souvenir. A very friendly server greeted us immediately and let us know that we could see ourselves anywhere in the bar area. Every surface was extremely clean, the server and bartender were the most lovely humans to talk to, and the whole vibe is just fantastic there. The complementary Wi-Fi and outlets throughout have me planning a little future lunch excursion during work hours. Plus the food was outstanding! Nothing skimpy about these portions. I hear the ice cream here is quite the treat, but we were so full from lunch that we had to sadly skip it. Next time though! Came here for a Yelp event and decided to order food that wasn't part of the event. Buffalo chicken sandwich was thigh meat so that was a bit different. While it was juicy it did have some tough parts. Overall good flavor especially the cherry jam and it was a big portion. It is Al a cart though so no fries or anything. We did order breaded cauliflower for an appetizer and it was fantastic and the ranch was delicious. If you're a ranch fan you'll understand. Beer was cold. I honestly can't remember which one I got but it was a cider. Our server was great and she attentive. From the esthetic, to the food, to the amazing staff, this restaurant had me in this state, the first week of 2024. If you haven't been, please go. Great vibes, loves the interior and it was fun to sit at the bar for lunch. The cocktails were fantastic! I had the lemon shake-up in honor of the state fair. My friend and I both thought our food was pretty 'meh'. Nothing to write home about, but maybe we ordered the wrong things? I wish I had perused yelp reviews before ordering, because I would have gotten a burger. I liked the toppings that came with the nachos, but they were cold. Still ate them, though. My friend said her tenderloin was thick, almost like a fried pork chop sandwich instead of flattened out like a traditional tenderloin. Because of this, it was a little chewy. This was the choice for something new for dinner. We walked in and the dining room just inside the door was closed but the bar area was open. Sign said wait for server to be seated. Then we were told to sit wherever we wanted. We stared with Tea to drink. Tea was mediocre. Appetizer of Cheese Curds I thought was pretty good. My husband said meh. I ordered a double smash with collard greens. I really liked the burger. The collard greens weren't horrible. But a bit spicy for me. Husband got single smash with fries. He ate about half his sandwich. He didn't like the special sauce and couldn't cover it up with mayo. I thought the sauce was fine. Not over powering. He only ate a few fries. Again he was meh on his meal. I was pretty happy. We went in know this but still don't like it. They add 20% gratuity on a bill over 40$. I think this practice should be ilegal. We would tip 20% anyway. It's a tip, tips aren't compulsory. And then adding 3% for credit cards. It is legal to do this due to a class action lawsuit in 2013. Before that it was ilegal to charge customers a credit card fee. This tactic is becoming more and more common. We won't be back. I thought the food was ok. Husband thought Meh. And it's a 30 min drive. Lots other places closer by that don't add gratuity or a cc fee. Husband would have done zero stars. read more

The best chili cheese burger I've ever eaten is made here. Every single thing about it is perfection: the smash-burger-style patties, the slightly sweet chili, the melted cheese, the Fritos corn chips inside the whole messy, sloppy, delicious thing. I'm getting hungry just writing about it. Big Plates (the category that the chili cheese burger falls under) come with your choice of one side, and I chose coleslaw, which was the perfect accompaniment to the burger. Sometimes you need something tart and cold to eat with a warm and savory meal. Oh, and the beer. I can't forget that! I got the Velvety Kush, which was a 6.8% ABV citrusy delight. If you are looking for a good pairing for the chili cheese burger, I suggest the Velvety Kush. I don't know if they did this on purpose, but Natural State Provisions feels like three separate places. You have the area where you order food. At this place, you can order food (duh) and up to one alcoholic beverage. If you want more than one drink per person or you want to start a tab, you need to order your drinks at the bar, which is in the next room. Regardless of how many drinks you want, you will enter the bar area to pick up your drink after you order, but you'll pick up your food at the first room where you ordered it. It sounds complicated but it's really not, and if you're confused, the exceedingly kind people who work here will explain their system to you. (Seriously, the people who work here are so nice and chill and friendly.) The third area of Natural State Provisions is their outdoor patio, which is where the dog park is also located. Yes, you can bring your doggie here! The dog area is fenced and looked like a nice place to relax and enjoy great food and drink on a nice day. My husband and I went to the Smoking Goose. We thought we would be able to have lunch there but found it was not to be so. We saw Natural State Provisions across the street and thought, "why not". It is like a local kind of place. They don't bring a menu or greet you. You order at the bar, drinks and food. They give you a buzzer and that's when you go get your food. Really no frills. We both got the Ripper. It is a hot dog with yellow mustard, relish, red onion and "team" peppers. The peppers looked hot, but they promised they were not. As a clever meu idea, you can get a soda or a PBR with your basket for the same price. The hot dog was awesome, the toppings were good, but the bun was about 3 times wider than the dog. When we finished eating, this cute girl walks by with a mint soft serve cone with sprinkles. OM gosh it looked so good, my husband got up to get me one. The girl came to our table and said, that she was looking for someone that would enjoy the cone and heard me "moaning" over the ice cream. She said I was the perfect person to get to sample the cone and she gave me the uneaten cone...YUM Thank you for the treat! Her name was Alicia and she and her husband own the restaurant. She used to make Gelato and she added soft serve to the bar menu. Very unique. There were other things on the menu to try but we were going out later that evening, so we tried to order less. They have a very nice patio area. a small dining area and a decent sized full service bar with seating at the bar and dining room seating. The staff there is very friendly. I enjoyed our conversation. They serve southern comfort food including fried chicken, hot chicken sandwiches, burgers and corn dogs. If you are there for drinks, then you head to the bar side. If you want you food, you go over to the restaurant side. You scan the QR code and pull up the menu. You can order online using your phone or they can take your order directly. I got the Currywurst and a side of their collard greens. I wanted them to serve me some of their world famous candied yams, but all I got served my a big scoop of sadness. They were out of them. Ohh well. It took about 15 minutes for me to get my food. It was fresh, hot and delicious. I will admit, the greens were a bit too salty for me. And I like well seasoned food. The Currywurst was awesome. It was something different and had a lot of taste and flavor. I highly recommend it. This is a nice new joint that you should definitely check out. It was interesting that we were seated inside and ordered drinks yet people walking in from outside would order at bar and get their drinks before us. Strike one. When we finally got the drinks we were missing a beer and had to repeat the beer order. Strike two The wait for the food was long despite it not being busy. When we finally got our food we were missing a whole order. When bringing out the food the waitress merely says "seems missing something" and then blames the cook and finally probably takes my order and puts it in. How do you mess this up when not busy? Strike three. Based on what came out: The catfish meal was great!. The seasoning was really good but it didn't come out with the side sauce or tomatoes (as listed on the menu). The smash burger (when I finally got it) was mediocre, at best, the burger had no flavor and the bun was a soggy mess. Fries were our side. I ordered Clouded Judgment, a hazy New England IPA for my beer. Fried bologna is my husband's jam, but I must say this sandwich really blew me away! I was so excited about this place. It's beautiful on the outside. Lots of free parking around. This was neither big, nor juicy. I'm thrilled I ordered the weird stoneground mustard on the side, because it was really watery in my opinion. I was also disappointed with the shredded lettuce. On a taco? Okay. On a battered sandwich with nothing to *hold* it to your meat? What a mess. And the sesame seeds on that bun?!? Whaaaaat?? I just kept shaking my head. I have never seen that many sesame seeds crammed onto a bun EVER...ever ever. The service was great. It was a Thursday night so it wasn't busy. The music was loud but when the waitress suggested we move at a table far from the speaker it became more tolerable. BUT THE ONION RINGS. THE ONION RINGS Y'ALL. THE ONION RINGS WERE THE STAR OF THIS SHOW. If I ever come again, it's gonna be those onion rings that lured me in. The serving size was ample. They were perfectly crispy, not oily, they didn't slide out when you bit into them. The vibes at Natural State Provisions were casual and family friendly. There were a range of couples to families with children around. Didn't feel too loud. The servers were quick and helpful! I ordered the cheese curds after talking to my waiter and YALL - let me tell you - WORTH IT!! I got the cheesy goodness hot from the frier and each bite was a perfect balanced crunch and the rest just melted in my mouth. I am a ranch fanatic and I was also impressed with the flavor in the sauce. To drink, I had a matcha 75 - it was an easy refreshing drink for this summer afternoon. I arrived on a Saturday afternoon to grab some lunch. When I arrived I took a good look at the dog park. Nice! Dog park is part of the restaurant, but dogs cannot come inside. See rules in picture. Then I wanted to go inside. Patio entrance seems like a secondary entrance, "Exit Only" door seems like an understated main entrance, and I saw a few people use this to enter despite the words "Exit Only" painted on the door. Main entrance is nicely decorated and seems ADA, as does the patio ramp entrance, the restrooms, and seating. They obviously made an effort here. Bravo! They had Bob Ross on one of the TVs. Nice touch :) Indoors: Louder environment, bar-restaurant mix of rock-alternative music and loud echo-voices. (Note for the hearing impaired) The place just feels cool. I think they did a good job capturing the feel they were going for. There are cool little treasures to find all over the place, like Arkansas, and a beaver lol Parking: There is a lot across the street for other businesses, but I chose not to park there for fear of being towed. So I asked about parking. They tell me it is ok to park in the lot across the street, but I did not get the impression there was any agreement between the two businesses. That said, I did not see the towing company sign that would make this a tow-zone, so I think you would be safe parking there. Food: Menu is also very nicely done online. Good pictures. They do hit you immediately with a mailing list entry, which confused me for a sec because it overwhelms the top of the menu and I thought I went to the wrong place. Just scroll down, the menu is nice. Caveat: I do not drink, so I cannot speak to the quality of the alcoholic drinks they serve. I ordered the Heirloom BLT, cheese curds w ranch, and a side of chili. It seemed to take longer than I would have expected for what I ordered, adjusted for the amount of people in the restaurant. I think it took 30min. BLT: Bacon-lettuce-tomato balance was challenging because the bacon was whole, thick, long strips that hung out opposing ends of the sandwich. I would say 1/3 of the bacon was actually on the sandwich. So it took some work to eat my way through outer-hanging bacon and reach the sandwich itself. Once there, the Texas toast was too much bread. I would say half the sandwich was Texas toast and the rest was a BTL. The lettuce was shredded and lost in the mix. I initially thought some of it was long-pieces of onion. So I never got that good bite where the savory of the bacon was offset by the crisp cool lettuce, with a nice tomato taste in the middle of it all. Honestly it was kind've a messy, oily ordeal to eat the sandwich. 3-5 stars. Chili: Sweet and spicy. Nice appearance, not too oily. Something about the ground beef makes it end up having a kind've powdery texture once you start chewing a bite. It's decent chili, presented in a small plastic container. They were out of crackers so this was not part of the review. If you are like me, and enjoy Steak-n-Shake chili with oyster crackers, you will be disappointed. 2-5 stars Cheese curds were great. Mozzarella cheese, ranch was also good. I ate some there and took the rest home. I warmed them up later in the microwave and there were still delicious. 5 stars Based on the food 3 stars. Add a dog park and cool atmosphere, I add a star. Still a cool place, especially if you are a dog lover. read more

Truly a hidden gem in Indy. first of all, $1 wing Wednesdays. Second, $12 PBR pitchers. Need I say more?? If I must, NSP is just a good vibe. This is one of those homey spots where anyone can walk in and feel comfortable. The staff are extremely nice and welcoming. The food and drinks are affordable, delicious, and service is fast. It's truly got something for everyone. Looking for a place with free parking? Dog park? Lowkey atmosphere? ICE CREAM?! Just trust me on this one, this is a spot to add to your restaurant rotation. For the time that I went which was right after opening, it was quiet with about 4 people dining in on a Sunday afternoon. I was greeted immediately. The waitress and bartender were both kind and the perfect amount of attentive. I got the soft serve and also the fried chicken sandwich. This was my second time here and the first go around I had the smash burger and a beer, which was good BUT the fried chicken sandwich really satisfied my cravings. And it was the perfect size! I'm already a huge fan of soft serve and this soft serve was delicious! It was thick and filling with the perfect flavor and toppings. I can't wait to try the Thai Tea flavor next month. We had a great time at Natural State Provisions! It was our first time there and we enjoyed the "hipster saloon" unique feel and vibe. The food was great and very filling! Come hungry and ready for some hardy food, there isn't a ton of healthy options so don't come here expecting so. There is however, a vegetarian smash burger which is helpful for our plant-based folks. There's also great outdoor seating with a dog park. Great for a summer evening hangout! read more
