My new favorite Mexican spot! I have literally driven by this place so many times and each time would say, gosh we need to try that place. We finally made it happen one random Tuesday. It is really good. When we talked in around 6:30pm there was no line and we were able to sit right away. As soon as we sat down, our sever game over with chips and salsa, filled our water and reviewed the menu for us. Talk about service! 10/10. The food came out really quickly and it was hot and tasted like they are using quality ingredients unlike many Mexican places we have went to. I really enjoyed trying this new Mexican-American restaurant in Carmel. Its a large building, so there was no wait, and service was great even as they got busier. I had been looking forward to trying Don Rigo, and today I came here with a group of 7 friends for a late lunch, around 3:00 pm. It was my first time here, but several of my friends had dined here previously and they had recommended it highly. We were pleasantly greeted and seated immediately at a large table. Service was very good, our server had a great sense of humor and made our meal enjoyable. We were promptly served chips and salsa, and our drink order was taken. We all ordered different entrees, and everyone was very pleased with both the presentation and the taste. I had ordered a me with cheese enchilada and a bean burrito, served with rice and beans. My meal was flavorful and delicious. The beans had a nice texture and good flavor. The rice was just a little bland for my taste but I added some salsa and it was perfect. Our water glasses were refilled promptly and extra soft drinks were brought out at timely intervals. The dinning room was spacious, with seating well-arranged. Decor is attractive. Valentines night date. Hot wife. Great life. We both were hankering for some Mexican food, or at least something that resembled TexMex. We've eaten at Don Rigo before with a decent level of "it's ok, not too bad and it's fairly close," as our reaction. It was ok enough to give a second try. Well, BIG MISTAKE! It started with a waiter that was slow. It took soooooo long to get his attention and when he did take our order, it took him 5 times to get it right. Then when he brought the drinks he brought one drink, only my wife's. Ten minutes later he brought me out a Sprite, which I did not order, because I'm allergic to drinks I do not like. Of course it then took him another 10 minutes to finally bring me my Diet Coke. And those were the only drinks we got. He was too lazy to bring refills even when asked. He was slow on the chips and salsa. Way slowish on the appetizers. And when the food came, the wife's order was correct but it was slopped together and mine of course was wrong. I ordered the "deep fried" chimichanga with an extra chimichanga on the side. What I got instead was two mini hotpocket chimis that were soggy soft, never fried, that had as much meat filling in them as a single Chef Boyardi Ravioli. On the gas light positive side of things, at least it was overly slathered in queso soup, ladled with runny refried bean "gravy" then garnished with wet watery lettuce with a paltry portion of pico, as an attempt to priss up the farm slop. And where was the rice you told me it came with? I guess Tío Ben (Uncle Ben) wasn't feeling "muy generoso". To be honest, disappointment isn't how I would even described my reaction. It was more "cabriado". "Pissed off" to the fact that once again a restaurant was putting "stuff" on a warm plate and expecting to be paid well for it. This wasn't food from the Mexican Yucatán. This food was a Ton-of-yuck not even close to real Mexican! .....but the decor was lovely, for a Indiana-Mex sports bar. So for a Diet Coke and a game, you won't be disappointed. read more

These guys were hella busy when we visited to get takeout. Good for them. I love seeing a new restaurant be busy. It seems like Don Rigo has been hotly anticipated in the neighborhood for quite some time. My experience with Don Rigo is from ordering takeout. We ordered the Chile Colorado, which is strips of steak covered in a tomatillo sauce, served with rice and beans, and flour tortillas. Unfortunately, we never received the tortillas, so I can't tell you how those were. But the Chile Colorado was good. We also ordered the chicken tortilla soup, which is a huge portion. I think they just have one size for the chicken tortilla soup, so if you like lots of soup, this is your thing. The tortilla strips come already incorporated into the soup, which means the soup is very soft. I think it could have benefited from some crunchy tortilla strips and maybe some greenery like cilantro, and a squeeze of lime. But there was lots of chicken in the soup, which was good, and many slices of perfectly ripe avocado. I find it difficult to not order chorizo when I see it on a menu, so when I saw that Don Rigo had a chorizo quesadilla, I had to get it. It's a decent size, and comes with a side of Mexican rice and sour cream. I liked the quesadilla a lot -- the chorizo was obviously the star here, and I barely even knew there was cheese in the quesadilla. The chips were OK, but definitely not made in house. I would not order the chips again. Overall, I'd visit again, but I think I would stay and dine in. Mexican food is great when you get it to go, but it's even better when you eat it hot and fresh from the kitchen. read more

Pretty good Mexican restaurant in Carmel, IN with plenty of parking and seating. When you walk inside, it feels clean and welcoming.. but it isn't your traditional Mexican restaurant with a variety of colors and artwork. Styling is more traditional. Everything is super well priced, way cheaper than most other Mexican spots we've been to, and the quality is unbelievable. It's a really beautiful place, but the food isn't amazing. The big problem though is this extremely rude waiter that kept leaving in the middle of us speaking. Any simple problem we brought up such as saying "oh I'm sorry I ordered rice, not beans" or "could I get the guacamole that comes with the meal because it's missing" he made it a big deal and was rude. Instead of bringing us the small guacamole that was missing from both of our meals, he brought out a large side of it and charged us 8 dollars. We barely used much of it and when the check came with that charge we explained again that the guacamole comes with our food and we were only asking for that small side. He interrupted us by grabbing the guacamole and storming off. At least the man I believe to be the manager was nice, but that bald waiter is really rude. read more

First time here! It was suggested by a family member since it is their favorite place. The restaurant was very nice. Not the typical Mexican decor. More like a sports bar but really nice and clean. Felt upscale. The server didn't speak a lot of English but handled his duties well. The chips were pretty standard, not my favorite. However, the food was great! We got a ton of different items, veggie fajitas, chicken chimichangas, steak burritos, Chicken Taco Salad, Chicken Enchiladas, and seafood fajitas (with shrimp, scallops, and Tilapia). All were fresh. The fajitas were full of peppers and veggies, broccoli, carrots, mushrooms, onions. And everyone at the table was very happy with their meals. My wife took me out to dinner to our favorite Mexican restaurant and we enjoyed some delicious food. We shared a huge drink called the Monster Peach Frozen Margarita and started dinner off with the beef and cheese dip. She had the seafood fajitas which are her favorite and I had the steak, chicken and shrimp burrito. The food is always fresh and the temperature is perfect. Our host Sergio had outstanding customer service skills and we were definitely satisfied with his service. We will return to this restaurant to enjoy some more delicious food since this is our go to restaurant. They also do a special something for birthday celebrations that is really cool, but I'm not going to spoil the surprise. If you want to be celebrated at a restaurant, eat some good food, have a tasty drink and good vibes you must check them out. Our date night was a success. read more

Good flavor but not much alcohol and I think it's the premade margaritas. My wife ordered the mahi tacos and liked them once we were able to ask the waiter for the chipotle spread. Two times ordering carry out have been negative experiences and there will not be a third. Ordered taco salad with ground beef, lettuce on side. Lettuce was swimming in a pool of water, and this was the second time I realized that flour tortilla bowl had taken on the taste and smell of the air freshener in the restaurant and had transferred to the food inside the bowl, same for the chips. Service was great! The food was pretty good. I got the enchiladas chipotle with steak. Their steak is chopped really finely. It was pretty dry, but it didn't bother me much. The chipotle sauce on my enchiladas was interesting. It was more a creamy chipotle. It was good, just not what I expected. We also tried their margaritas. My friend chose the place and it was close to her house. It was a 20 minute drive for me and I can't call it a destination restaurant. Our second time visiting this restaurant. Sunday evening around 6:30 and we were seated immediately. But even more astounding was that our food arrived maybe ten minutes after we ordered it. I had the steak and cheese burrito with rice, and my husband had the taco salad. Both were excellent! I judge Mexican restaurants by their rice; this was soft and fluffy as I like it.
