It's a staple on the menu and the only vegan option-this is so disappointing to come here to be told they are out. Please, if this is a popular item then order enough. We found out that single was large enough for 3-4 people and me and my wife couldn't eat half of it. Shocked I hadn't already reviewed this place. We've been to Sun King Carmel 3 times and have ordered food from here 3 times. Going in without a plan can be tough because the place gets crowded and loud pretty quickly. Beyond the challenge of trying to get a table when they're busy, the line at La Margarita can get long and seem intimidating as it might take a bit to get through. If there's more than 1 in your party, I recommend one person get in line to order and the other scout about to claim a table as they get taken quickly. In spite of how long it might take to place the order, it's been quick from order to the actual receipt of food each time. I can't speak to much of the menu because we have done the veggie nachos each time. It's a cookie sheet full of chips layered with a generous assortment of toppings. I think they're the BEST nachos I've ever had and loved them because they're spread out over a huge tray, so each chip has an evenly-distributed amount of toppings and is easy to share. It was great to visit this fun Sun King food and beer hall. The industrial feel, large airy space, great beer selection and various kitchens make it easy to see why this spot is a popular Carmel destination. We had the chance to learn from the group which kitchen offerings were table favorites. La Margarita was the clear winner. Everyone seemed to like what they got from this kitchen. While ordering I asked the La Margarita cook's team which item was their favorite and ordered that. So we got the CHICKEN EN CHIPOTLE burrito bowl which is served in a bowl over a bed or Mixi-rice and black beans with Fischer Farms Adobo grilled chicken, chipotle salsa, guacamole, queso fresco, & pickled red onion. 5/5. Yelp would lead you to believe the nachos are the star of the show. And let me tell you, the nachos are great and quite a good bargain. But if you want to have the best bite in Sunking, you get the Birria tacos. They're cheesy and meaty and juicy and crispy and full of flavor. They're everything you could want in Birria. It is a counter service restaurant with a server that will bring you drinks only, so order your food then take a seat and someone will come and take your drink order. I went here two days in a row last weekend lol! It's that good! For the very first time I tried one of their burrito bowls. It was actually really good! I love the seasoning and sauces that they use. The order comes with 2 tacos that doesn't seem like a lot but they are very filling! Brisket covered in cheese with cilantro and onions fried in a tortilla shell that's been greased up by the heavens themselves. Pro tip: You can add chips and salsa to any taco and make it a meal. Such a fun spot! Inside Sun King brewery as one of the food hall stations. Huge line can be intimidating but the service was very quick and they give you tons of food. I love the downtown location, so when a friend asked to meet at Sun King for drinks and dinner, I knew I'd be choosing La Marg for food. It did not disappoint. (And actually, I prefer the ordering process and setup here vs downtown location). I ordered the Chorizo Bowl and chips and salsa. The bowl was the perfect size for dinner and very tasty, with lots of fresh ingredients. The Salsa starter came with plenty of chips to share and was only $4! Wow! I've already told like 3 people about these birria tacos since I tried them at lunch today! Based on some foodie groups I frequent , Birria are all the rage right now. I've been Interested to try them so when I saw them on the menu, I had to try. Now, I've read that Birria tacos come with some sort of dipping juice and these didn't but they sure did NOT NEED anything more. These flavorful, tender , juicy braised beef tacos were delicious every single bite. They stayed crispy despite all the juice, they were melty, they had cilantro and onions. This is part of the sun king group of restaurants available when you order thank you beers. This was my first time trying this particular restaurant as there are 3 to 4 to choose from. Tonight I chose to get the nachos with chicken from La Margarita. They were the absolute worst nachos I've ever had in my entire life from a Mexican restaurant! They were smothered with queso avocado sauce and some kind of Sorrento sauce. The Queso sauce was very gritty and the avocado sauce was flavorless. There was very little chicken mixed in and had me struggling to find additional protein to eat tonight. Because of all the smothering up with sauces, there was a need for more chips! It was so spicy I couldn't even taste the good beer that I had to go with it. While I like Sun King and the ambience, I would never have La Margarita as part of the overall food groups. read more

This is one of the 4 food stands inside the new Sun King brewery/distillery in Carmel. The food (when they have it) is pretty good. However, when I ordered the chorizo tacos, they were out. They only have 3 meats, so they were out of 33% of their menu. I didn't find out that they were out of chorizo until after I ordered and had sat down (they used the pager they gave me to call me up to change my order). Loved the concept within Sun King. Glad I selected this place to try. I tried ordering Wee Macha and Chicken Tacos, unfortunately they didn't have all the ingredients to make the Wee Macha, I settled with Carnitas tacos. Holy smokes they were both good! Loved the purple corn tortillas and the verde salsa on top. Love to try other items on the menu next time I'm in the Midtown Carmel area. Their seems to be a trend where they run out of ingredients, so beware if you're looking forward to trying a particular item you wanted to try. read more

We've been to La Margarita several times though this is my first review. We love to order our favorite Chicken Nachoos and share. They come out on a large baking tray with a decent amount of toppings - but be forewarned the chicken (unless you specify differently) is pretty hot - as in spicy. Well today we sat down at a table in front of the counter, after having secured our beers, and there was a sign on the register saying "we will open at 5:30" - it was about 4:45. Since we already had our beers, and I was really hungry, we decided to wait. I started a line at 5:25 at the counter and about 5 people quickly lined up behind me. At about 5:35 finally someone came up to say it would be at least another 45 minutes. Everyone else quickly left but I remained and the gentleman working apologized and offered me some chips & queso free of charge. That gesture was much appreciated and went a long way. The oven was down and the repairman was still hard at work. As the adage goes "S&$t happens" sometimes things can't be helped but we've had several good experiences there and equipment failure is out of their control. Love the food, but this place has never been able to get their staffing or food supply quite right. Unfortunately, this was the case before COVID. I'm used to being told they are out of guacamole, but I just waited in a long line for 10 minutes to then be told everyone in line should come back in 20 minutes because they have a big order they need to make. So I waited here for another 10 minutes to hear it will be another 20 minutes before they resume orders. Something needs to change.
