My chorizo torta was good: the bread was soft, and the sandwich included sliced avocado and refried beans in it. I don't usually order tortas, but the menu here is so long and overwhelming, and the torta was the item I landed on when the server came to our table to take our order. I don't regret ordering the torta, though -- in fact, I think it turned out to be a smart choice. They have a kids menu, and a burrito is an option. I got two burritos con arroz y frijoles, and when I asked that cheese be added to the inside of the burrito, no one understood why anyone would ask for cheese inside a burrito, and they kept asking if I wanted cheese on the outside. If you've read my other reviews about Indiana Mexican food joints, you'll know that the definition of a burrito is fluid here, and can be anything -- including a plate of beans with a tortilla folded on top. I think the kitchen just decided to ignore my request for cheese because the kids' burritos didn't have any cheese, either inside or outside. Whatever -- I just told my kids to pretend there was cheese in their burritos. Also: The burritos from the kids menu are super small. Almost like they are made with fajita-sized tortillas. Just keep this in mind if you have a child with a large appetite. We also got enchiladas, which came out cold. The chips and salsa were OK. Overall, the price was very high for a family meal that was just mediocre. read more

Great management. Food takes longer than it should, salsa is authentic!! Rice has been mid the last few times and a little soggy. But management alone makes me go back! Queso is really good! As well the mega chimichanga! read more

This is my second visit this week! I rarely come to the west side but when I have to venture here to get my car worked on the WEST side has the best authentic Mexican restaurants! My service guy at the dealership recommended this place and the service is friendly and food is delicious! Forget CORONA and enjoy a SOL instead! The first time I came in someone played the juke and it startled me how loud it was lol. From the outside the parking lot has some serious parts of pavement that needs work but you cannot miss the building because it's bright YELLOW! For some odd reason ALL the windows still have Valentine's Day decorations too and it's already almost end of Feb! Haha. I LOVE the regrows beans and rice!! The best I've had yet! read more

The food is alright, but they have no AC at all inside. It's actually hotter inside than it is outside. I recommend only ordering takeout if you choose to eat here. read more

If you are looking for us intake Mexican food, that is clearly made with love and care, then this is the slot for you! From the homemade tortillas, to the meat options, to the amazing staff, you just can't go wrong. I was so excited to find that they made their tortillas fresh in the restaurant, I smell I hadn't encountered since I was in Texas. I went with a slightly larger group for a work lunch, and they were so accommodating and kind to everyone's questions and potential substitutions. What did I order, the biggest quesadilla that they had on the menu full of cheese and shrimp enjoy! Food was delicious! We were traveling to Missouri and spent the night in Indianapolis. Looked on Yelp for Mexican food. The place we found wasn't a full service restaurant with drinks for 2 couples. Instead we found this restaurant. Wow!!! Great way for 2 couples to end a 3 week vacation to celebrate our 40 & 41st anniversary. Authentic food. We recommend this restaurant. read more

We had a large party of 7 today (Saturday) for lunch. Ordered several different dishes, most of which were extremely overcooked and dry. I had Mar Tierra Miguey and the chicken and skirt steak was so dry & overcooked it was inedible; husband had chicken enchiladas that were so dry he couldn't eat them....son said Mole was just OK. We should have addressed the issues with a manager, but we were part of a large group and didn't want to bring down the celebration. We had heard this was THE place for authentic Mexican food - I don't agree at all. read more

We had been going to this restaurant for years. The last couple times we went we had servers that were new, (that's not an issue). There were several mistakes made with our order (we are a party of two). It is how those mistakes were handled by the servers. We were forgotten about after not receiving half our order-our server no where to be found. 30 minutes late she appears- to "check on us" um where is our dinner? To which she informs us the kitchen is now closed.... So she brings out the sides and tortillas without the hot portion or the main dish then tells us the kitchen is closed. I asked her to please explain this to me as a customer who has been waiting on their order! No explanation nor apology-just our ticket to pay! So on our way out as we pay for our drinks, sides, and tortillas (had to ask for the other items to removed!) the manger who see us in there all the time- his response to what had taken place, "come back tomorrow morning when the kitchen reopens"! That is how they treat customers, customers who are regulars in there. The owner needs to take a hard look at his management! read more

We came in almost an hour before closing and were seated immediately. Turns out the person who took our order never turned it in after she asked for it and wrote in down. We actually don't think she was a waitress - she was dressed differently and we were the only table she was sent to wait on and she never checked back like wait staff does. Finally they closed turned off Open sign and still no food. Kitchen was closed when we finally got her attention as she was cleaning. Not sure if they didn't want customers hour before closing? Or a joke on the people who look different? Manager offered to open back up and make us food, but at that point too late. He did comp my husbands margarita, but no food after a long day of travel from California makes me grumpy. read more

Nice addition to the area. Great lunch specials and a unique menu compared to the run of the mill in the area. I got 4 tacos with flour tortillas "my choice" for $10.50 and for lunch they were huge I should have only got two. Lunch fajitas were also decent "nothing to write home about" but came wit all da fixins and were only $7.50 at lunch. There are also a few breakfast selections as they open at ten and plantains! Also the service has been exceptional and due to the layout of the restaurant you always have an employee in view. 3.5-4stars. read more

I had a bad experience at El Maguey today and honestly this was not the first time that we had bad customer service, today we waited for almost 20 minutes just to get our drinks and waited an hour to get our food, when I asked for my to go order the waitress was very rude and stated that it will come out whenever it comes out, that they are behind in orders. When my coworker asked for a receipt the guy at the register was also rude to her and said that they charge extra to people that complains. I will never go back. read more

This is an excellent place for authentic Mexican food! I always get the same thing so I can't really comment on the whole menu. My favorite dish is called El Rancherito. I've been to this location several times and the food is usually great. However the last few times have not been so swell. Last time it took almost an hour to get our food. Our server tried to play it off like it was because a large party had an order in front of us but they were already done eating. When the food finally came to the table it looked so sloppy like they just threw it on the plate. Today we ordered our food to go which was a definite mistake. While it didn't take long to prepare, my entree was overly salted and the rice and beans didn't have much flavor. The platano tasted old and microwaved. They didn't even give me any tortilla for my order. The agua de mango was good but the food quality today was no bueno. read more

Definitely the best food in the city, and the price is unbeatable! Huge, seriously, HUGE portions leave you begging for a to go box and wishing your stomach was bigger. We had the Texas Chimichanga, which has chicken, steak, shrimp, green peppers, onions, and tomatoes wrapped in a flour tortilla, deep fried, covered in cheese sauce, and served with beans, salad, and guacamole. Ready for the best part? Ten bucks! Seriously! Amazing food, huge drinks, and a great atmosphere with flat screens and music. This is the place to beat, folks. Open til midnight 7 days a week, let me just say I am a fan. My free meal punch card already has five stamps, and we just found this hidden gem! I can't say enough how awesome El Maguey is. Definitely check it out for yourself. read more

Yowzer. Come hungry. The portions here are off the charts, which is good, because it is delicious!! I've been to El Maguey twice: I've had the burrito the size of a toddler and a chicken and chorizo platter thing. Both were absolutely delicious! My only complaint is that the restaurant was quite hot on both occasions--slightly uncomfortable--but it's still totally worth it. read more

Bad service all around. We were seated fast but ignored for a long time. We didn't get menus, napkins or utensils. We were just left there to it for about 20 minutes. After we complain someone came ready take order with out menu. After we ordered food came one plate every 10 minutes and nobody in our party (10) received utensils or napkins. Food was nasty the waitress even said she didn't recommend a dish I had picked. Would not recommend this place to nobody. read more
