¡Hola Honduras! My brother in law is Honduran, so my sister in law found a Honduran restaurant for us to dine at for his birthday and we loved it! A local, family run place, the vibe is very Latino. The food was absolutely amazing and there was a TON of it. Our server informed us the food is all cooked to order, so it could take awhile, but it honestly came out as quick as any other restaurant. The service was excellent and we had a wonderful birthday dinner as a family. Our only complaint was the temperature. Either the restaurant doesn't have air conditioning or it wasn't working, so as you can imagine in July, it was quite warm. I mistook this place for a restaurant my friend was talking about but it was a surprisingly good find. The servings are massive! And the flavors are really good. My friend got the chicken and fries, his plate had a mountain of fries. He actually doesn't like potatoes but was really loving the fries. They had a sweet potato flavor to them, maybe from the oil that was also used to cook plantains/bananas. I got the bistec ensebollado. It was a huge portion and great flavors. This was my first time trying Honduran food and it was delicious. The fried chicken was my favorite thing I tried and I saw at least one person per table order it. I highly recommend trying the pupusa! They have a good variety to choose from and they are full of cheesy goodness! The service was a bit slow with there being only one waitress taking care of guest and to go orders. Then there was only one bus person too. Overall good and delicious experience. read more

This is one of three Honduran restaurants I know of in Indianapolis. We have now been to all three. One of them, La Ceiba, was not good at all. The other, Honduras Express, was also 5-star worthy...we couldn't decide whether El Sabor Catracho or Honduras Express took the cake for the best Honduran in the city, but El Sabor Catracho was pretty dang good. This restaurant was BUSY! Barely an empty table the entire time we were eating lunch and tons of carry out orders. Almost exclusively Hispanic clientele (we were the only gringos). Clean interior and decent service. Menu is in Spanish, not very descriptive of what the dishes are but some quick Googling will tell you. I have a feeling you can't really go wrong here, though, because everything was yummy. I had the tajadas con carne molida. Tajadas are a style of plantain, not quite crispy but definitely more crisped-up than just laying a plátano on the plate. Carne molida = ground beef. This was DELICIOUS! Personally could have done without the addition of the lettuce, but this dish has good flavor and a good sauce on top of the meat...plus cheese! AND a nice helping of their delicious pickled red onions. My mom had the carne asada. Flavor was decent but a little bland overall and the meat was a little tough. (Notice though that this isn't enough to detract from 5 stars...the other stuff is so good it didn't even matter). Comes with a tasty little salad, white rice, beans, and some thick, fluffy tortillas. My dad had El Sandoval, a platter with several small versions of typical Honduran dishes, mirroring some of the things we sampled at Honduras Express. The star of the show was the baleada, which is sort of like a Honduran quesadilla...thick tortilla, beans, cheese, sour cream, etc. SPECTACULAR FLAVOR. Could have eaten like 4 of these little things. The platter also included a Honduran enchilada, which is much more like a tostada than a Mexican enchilada...this was good as well although nothing compared to the baleada. It also had a pastellito, sort of like an empanada, and some delicious yuca frita. Man, I had been craving some yuca. It's so hard to find around here, and El Sabor Catracho had possibly the best-cooked yuca I have ever had. The portion sizes here are no laughing matter. The plates are massive. Plan to share and plan to take home leftovers to boot. Amazing amount of food for what you pay. It was about $40 for the three of us, but for the amount of food (plus three drinks) that was a pretty good deal. My drink, mora, was delicious. It tastes sort of like jamaica except I think it's made from raspberries. It wasn't on the menu; I tried to order jamaica and she said they had mora. Had no idea what that was at the time but glad that I got it anyway. Overall we will definitely try to return to this place because almost everything we had was not just good, but great. Amazing! My boyfriend got tacos that were rolled and fried. The sauce was amazing and it was very fresh. I got the Tajadas con carne molida. It was massive and could have fed 3 people. It was almost like nachos with plantanos, sort of like coke slaw, a sauce, ground beef and both of ours had a good amount of pickled onions, which we love. It seemed everyone was getting the fried chicken so we'll be back for that. There was a language barrier but it's not really a big deal, and absolutely worth it. read more

Really delicious authentic Honduras food, for very reasonable prices, in a no frills casual environment. The horchata was delicious and tasted homemade. The default pupusa is filled with cheese, and served with a warm tomato salsa (flavorful and subtle at the same time), and shredded cabbage with tomatoes. The fried plantains and beans were so amazing. It was served with a small piece of traditional cheese. I requested crema on the side. There was more than enough food to take some leftovers home. The food preparation is a little slow, but they are making the food fresh to order. English is not a first language here, so don't be embarrassed to practice a few phrases in Spanish. OMG!! The most delicious filling food ! I asked for fried yuca - or else it's just baked and the chicharron is pure fried crunchy pig skin. Other places that say chicharron give more meat than skin. Definitely don't try to eat those with dentures! But still delicious. Next time I'll ask for extra orange sauce on the side since it ran out by the time I got to the rest of the yuca. Even the pickled carrots and onions were perfect! Great combo of crunchy tangy and super filling. I had this for lunch and its7 pm and I can't even think about dinner!! read more

After reading all the glowing reviews, I expected a better experience. To start with, the place was less that spotless. There were straw wrappers, plastic utensils, and scraps of paper strewn all over the floor. When we approached the desk, my shoe was actually sticking to the floor. They were very busy, so maybe they get a pass on not cleaning up the floor. There seems to be a very busy take-out element to El Sabor. That might have been a better approach. We knew to expect a wait for the food and that was fine. When food did arrive, however, it was only my husband's. He ordered the fajitas and the young man tried to give me the side set to the fajitas as my meal. Clearly this was not fried chicken. My meal arrived about 15 minutes after that. As for the quality of the food, I must say the fried chicken on plantains was as good as any fried chicken I have ever had. It was hot and juicy and quite tasty. My husband's fajitas, however, were way overcooked and unappealing. He ate very little. No server every stopped by to check on whether everything was alright, so there not was much we could do to rectify the situation. Perhaps trying this place for the first time on a busy Sunday afternoon was our mistake. Based on our experience today, I doubt we would go back. I wouldn't say don't try El Sabor. I would say if you are not familiar with this type of restaurant, perhaps go at a time when it isn't so busy and definitely try the pollo frito con tajadas. UPDATE--Just noticed that although there were only two of us, our server added on a 15% gratuity, You don't get a check at your table, you go to the register to pay so I did not know she had included the gratuity already. This is the BEST (and only) Honduran food I've literally ever had. I love the owners they're amazing people which makes a difference to me. I got the pastelitos which are basically fried pockets of rice, meat, and deliciousness. Very good food. As authentic as you can get in the US. Definitely recommend it. They didn't have some things on the menu which was disappointing but everything that they did have was very good. Portions were a good size with enough for leftovers. Flavors were great and every dish was cooked to perfection. The wait for the food is a little long but they warned us as soon as we sit down. The wait is due to the fact that the dishes are made fresh. Maduros were at the perfect state and the tajadas were sliced just right. The baleada especial was huge and the tortilla was freshly made. They had several drinks, maracuya, guanábana. The horchata was very Honduran and was made fresh. I am extremely happy that I drove the extra couple of minutes. Today I had a papusa and super baleada. The curtido was excellent on the papusa. I asked if they had any "spicy" additions, and the friendly waitress brought to me ghost pepper sauce. Well, it had been a year since my last visit as I live in Minnesota and don't get to Indy very often. But this is my go to favorite place when I make a run through Indy. I was again overjoyed with my visit. One great improvement is that the lady taking my order spoke pretty good English. This was a big change from the last time where I struggled with ordering as I am not super fluent in Restaurant Spanish, though I try. I think I've gotten better but it was a big help to have dual language on both sides of the order transaction. Of course I had my favorite, the cheese Pupusas, served with slaw and a tasty red tomato sauce. We also ordered the Pastelitos de Carne but they were out of them so instead we tried the Tacos, which I expected to be about the size of a regular taco. They were instead more like gigantic Flautas. A crisp shell, about 7" long and over an inch in diameter, filled with meat. SO DELICIOUS! I will have a hard time choosing next time I visit. Hopefully I'll have a friend to split with me so I can order both. Else, I will likely have carry-out lunch for the next day! This was a great find. The food really is very very good. The prices are pretty reasonable, and the food is very very good. We ordered the steak enchiladas- super amazingly delicious. We also paleada and pupusa. The paleada was like an ooey gooey bean and cheese burrito. Pretty darn delicious. The pupusa was kind of greasy and weird and I don't think I would get it again. They served chips, but with crumbled cheese and a weird chili sauce, no salsa. Nonetheless, they were pretty good. No fountain drinks, but the prices are super reasonable, and it's food you don't get anywhere else in town. Definitely give it a shot at least once! read more

This place has excellent authentic Honduran food, and thankfully it is in Indianapolis! I love the baleadas! Which in case you do not know what a baleada is, it is a thick tortillas folded with beans, sour cream, cheese, and eggs and always hits the spot! I recommend the super baleada if you have a decent appetite. You cannot forget to try the banana soda either! It's called Tropical and comes in a yellow glass and it's delicious, and I'm pretty sure that is imported from Honduras too. This place is awesome! Had the popusas, stuffed with molten cheese and refried beans. Delicious! Comes with a dipping sauce and some sort of pickled cabbage salad that you can put on top of the popusa. Had the pasteles stuffed with ground beef. These were fried and not greasy.
