Adulting really IS hard. Make it a little easier on yourself here at Loom! First of all, they offer Black Circle beer on tap as well as a full bar, if that instead piques your interest. The best part of Loom IMO is the ability to play an assortment of games (including pinball and old school console games) while you're imbibing AND doing laundry at these super shiny and fancy Dexter machines. I mean, how much better can adulting get than having a good beer, socializing and playing games while getting your duds clean? I visited on a weekend eve and there was a lively group of gents at the bar, as well as a couple folks in the pinball room. Our laundry room is currently under construction, so we thought this was our chance to check out Loom to do some laundry! Wash cycle - $4.50 Dry cycle - $0.25 (you'll probably need to run the dryers a few times). There is a machine where you can get quarters for the machine. The machine is finicky though--so bring several dollar bills to try out! Took us about 20 tries haha! The inside space is pretty dark and cozy. Sound definitely travels (the patrons at the bar were super loud and it made it hard to have a conversation with the person at your table. I would have done four stars if it weren't for the obnoxious, loud regulars. Didn't get to try the food since that starts at 5pm--but they have some sodas and ciders in addition to the beer options from Black Circle Brewing. We visit Loom on a pretty regular basis, almost every Saturday after dinner. The friendly, authentic bartenders know our orders, sometimes placing our go-tos down on the bar-top before we even sit down. One bartender is so attuned to our behaviors, he'll know by our body language and facial contortions that maybe we don't want our "go-tos" on a particular night...and offers up a suggestion instead of my typical Loom boulevardier. That's how freakishly psychic and great Loom is and why we go back almost every week, hoping for bar-top stool seats, absorbing the good vibes under pink lighting, and honing our introverted eavesdropping over the best, diverse range of bar conversations (from f-you quips to pet eulogies to philosophical monologues to debates over the best local tenderloin). If you're new to Loom: 1) Underberg consumption is supported and indulged. You should most definitely try an Underberg for the first time at Loom if you haven't before. It's a safe space for Underberg newbies, and a regular is likely to put your Underberg on their tab...that's how much this place's culture cares about you trying an Underberg, disliking it at first, then slowly realizing how wrong your tastebuds are...and ordering another...and another. 2) Know that all their liquors are house-made and more limited, and cans of non-draft beers are also limited. The draft list is small, but is, as they say, "curated"; a mix of house-brewed (ie Black Circle), local, and regional brews (sometimes from my favorite Prairie Artisan Ales). So liquor-wise, just know you can't have a Jagerbomb, tequila-based anything, or Jack n' Coke, but you can have something probably approximate to it (and much better-tasting). Don't be a fussy jerk about it and go with the flow. The newest seasonal cocktails are pretty delicious and dangerously easy to imbibe, because of cucumber flavor trickery. 3) There are a few pinball machines and retro arcade games on site, if that's your jam. Plus, industrial laundry machines, if you need a much more diverting place to catch up on your washing (rather than the typical depressing, beige laundromat). 4) There's a tv or two, but they probably won't be showing any popular, seasonal sports ball games 95% of the time. 5) If you need food to combat the cucumber-infused cocktail mindgames, the BB&B food truck recently set up shop behind Loom and has a fry-heavy menu of stuffed donuts, sopapillas, corndogs, burgers, and other greasy things to mop up the booze; it's a pretty excellent match with Loom. In full transparency: My partner has always fan-boy'd the BB&B truck, donated money to its Kickstarter, and even has his name on the truck's exterior. However, he never received his Kickstarter reward of two (2) loaves of bourbon raisin spice loaf, so we consider ourselves only semi-ethically compromised in our positive bias towards BB&B. Anyhoo, go to Loom because it's our favorite local neighborhood bar, with affordable quality-tasting drinks, welcoming staff, and mood lighting that hides your pores. I'd give 6 stars if Yelp let me. read more

So we started the evening off at Half Liter BBQ, and not wanting the night to end we were searching for a nearby place to imbibe in some *after dinner drinks* Loom was 1.4 miles and less than 5 minutes away so we decided to roll the dice on yet another new place. I think we got there at about 7 pm on this Thursday. I AM SO GLAD WE DID!!! It was right next to GoldLeaf Savory & Sweet on E. 46th street. I'd been to GoldLeaf before, and it was really easy to recognize THAT because it was on the corner...but we did drive past Loom before we realized it was literally right next door. After we turned around there was lots of street parking on the side streets. When we walked up there was a nice patio area, and it was a beautiful day so it was full with happy people chilling, talking, having drinks, hanging with their dogs. Upon walking in I was immediately in love with the vibe...lava lamps glowing on all the window sills, cool murals painted on all the walls, a game system set up and ready to go in the corner for any gamers wanting to the competition on. There was a small bar but 2 awesome attentive bartenders who seemed to be more than adept at their jobs. A few small tables were scattered about in addition to the bar seating and there were two clean unisex bathrooms at the back of the room. I don't think they could accommodate a big crowd or a huge party by any means, but for the small crowd that wandered in and out it was perfect. To the left when you walked in the door there was a wide hallway. On one side there were two sit down Galaga games, on the other side was a wall of 4 industrial size washers and dryers stacked on top of one another. At the end of that hallway there was another small room full of bright pinball machines, two small tables for just 2 people really, and a sit down Ms. Pac Man Arcade game. The pinball games were great! It seemed to really be geared to the Gen X generation which fit me (49) & my husband (53) just fine. There was a RUSH pinball machine (my husband is a big fan), a Beatles one, a Simpsons one, Halloween (the movie), Ghostbusters, Mandalorian, Godzilla, Star Wars, Legend of Valhalla, Robocop & FooFighters. My husband was immediately drawn to the Ms. Pac Man so once we sat down there we didn't get up until we were ready to leave. It didn't cost anything to play and the entire time we were there no one else even walked into the gaming room so it wasn't crowded and you didn't have to feel anxious about hogging the machine. I loved the murals in the game room! It was like an industrial kinda cityscape nighttime vibe and it had cool white stars hanging down to make it even more three dimensional. The mural of the sexy stormtrooper was also fun and well made. The pinball area had cool blue lights so it created a comfortable laid back environment, the washer/dryer area had red lights, the bar area used white. Really cool how they used the lighting to help define the spaces. It was $2 off any cocktail night so we saved $6, AWESOME. I didn't really look at the menu (QR codes on the table), I just asked the bartender to surprise me and keep bringing me rum drinks! Didn't have a single one that I was disappointed in. They also had a big selection of beers & legit food if that is what you were looking for (the smash burgers looked LEGIT). I wanted a t-shirt because I thought the washer logo with the olive was nothing short of genius and I like to support small businesses. The bartender had to search a bit because the stock seemed to be stored in boxes hear and there but he didn't seem the least bit put out by finding the shirt I wanted in the size I needed, so that was great. Our bartender said Loom was owned by Black Circle Brewing down the street. He encouraged us to try that bar out in the future and maybe listen to one of the bands play, so I'll have to add it to my list! I had such a great time! I love the idea of gaming bars but honestly they are usually so loud, crowded, and overwhelming that I can never confront my anxiety and pull the trigger. I especially love that they were quality pinball machines and arcade games, and not broken down knockoffs or *new* games I am not familiar with. If I were in my 20's and lived nearby this would be a weekly thing I am SURE of--throw in some laundry, have a drink, play some games--WHAT IS NOT TO LOOOOOOVE?!?! Two thumbs up Loom! I'm writing this as I drink a Wordsworth Hibiscus Gose that I picked up from Loom, so you could say that everything is coming full circle (full Black Circle, that is). The kind gentleman at Loom recommended Wordsworth after I told him that although I like beer, I mostly drink wine. Wordsworth is perfect for me. It's a little bit sour and just a skosh salty, it's a deliciously reddish purple hue, and unlike wine, it's a low ABV, so I can sip it and get a nice buzz but not get drunk. I pretty much love everything about Loom. I'm still a little confused, but I believe Loom is an extension of Black Circle Brewery. It's where they sell their beer on tap, but also where you can pick up four packs of their beer, like I did. Along with a four-pack of Wordsworth, I also picked up a four-pack of Carney Rye'd IPA and a flight of four different beers in mini cans. Why don't more breweries sell flights of their beers to go? Maybe they do, but this is the first time I've seen it. In any case, it's a great idea. Loom is also a lounge where you can co-work: There are tables and couches, and they encourage staying a while and working. On their website, they say that they offer a unique remote work experience, and it's true. Because at Loom, you can not only do some remote working, but you can also do your laundry! They have a coin-op laundry room on site, so you can do your laundry, drink a beer and bang out that TPS report all in one shot. They also have high-speed internet and color copy machines. They don't serve food in Loom, but apparently there is a food truck that is outside in the back that you can order food from, and then bring it into the lounge. It's called Log the Food Trailer. Whenever Loom is open, the food truck should be there, but you might want to check Loom's Facebook page just in case. Also, I'm not sure if this matters, but the music at Loom slaps. Whoever is picking the music should know that they are doing a great job. I haven't heard some of those songs since I was a high schooler in the 90s. read more

I'm at the beer bar. I'm at the laundromat. I'm at the combination beer bar and laundromat. This place is sick, the atmosphere is unmatched. There's a nice patio area that you get through to get inside. As soon as you go in you're greeted with an interesting mural of Princess Leia in her slave garb wearing a Storm Trooper helmet. It really is a sight to behold. Again, the atmosphere when we went was awesome, in a weekday relaxed way. We stopped to get a drink on the way back from trivia. The staff was awesome, there was a girl giving donuts away from the remnants from her store that day. There's a wide selection of beer on tap, so you're bound to find something you like, even for non-beer-lovers like me. We went outside on the patio on a nice night and enjoyed our drinks. Very unique business. This is a black circle brewery taproom but also sells spirits that are produced by black circle under "loom" label. They make and sell bottles of vodka, rum, corn whisky, gin, bourbon and rye. The clear spirits are solid. The vodka is comparable to that of stoli or something similar. It has minimal scent or taste/Body to it and mild burn. The corn whiskey is quite easy to drink and mixes well in a smash. The rum and gin were my favorites. Gin is soft, citrus forward and has almost a fruity cereal note to it. Bourbon and rye are young. Smooth like clear spirits, although, very minimal tasting notes or complexity. Beer wise have rotating drafts from black circle. West coast and NE IPAs very good. Food was not tried here but appears to be burgers, fries, etc. Very chill interior. One side bar with a few tables alongside tv with n64. Other side is pinball area. Sides connected by laundry mat, so folks can come do some laundry, drink as they wait, entertain in various ways. Has a retro feel to it. Highly recommend if want a chill drinking establishment or for brewery/distillery fans. read more

The allure of this place is that it's a Laundromat for Hipsters. The irony is that a normal Laundromat is better in nearly every way. I'll explain, but before I do I will say Loom was an awesome experience that surprised me, it just wasn't for me. That's OK! The washers are your good ole' Dexters. Small-ish, but aren't they all? No big blankets here. I do love seeing those ridiculous XXL machines with fire and stopwatches on them, Loom doesn't have that. It's a place for small to medium loads. (they may have it, but I didn't see it, or need it) The price per wash is $4.50. The change machine spat out EVERY crisp bill we had until we put in a 20... So yea, quarters for days. I'll admit I filled that machine wayyy beyond capacity to fit my larger load and it handled it just fine. The Dryer is only $0.25 per few minutes (maybe 7 or 8). You'll need at least 4 or 5 cycles to dry a large load. I left with somewhat wet clothes, but it was my fault for doing too much in a single machine. The cleaning aspect of Loom works really well and I'm so happy it exists in this neighborhood. The bar side has great selections, but it really shines in the Pinball machines, N64 (Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire, are you kidding!!!!) games, and more. I played games the whole time since it was really just me. I loved it. The small, close setting with the not-so-sound dampening space makes the place not so fun to be around people with loud voices. Live yo life! BUT, wow bring headphones if you need to do work while waiting. I can't say I'll go back, but I wouldn't avoid it. Loom was more than I expected and I'm stoked for them. I went to a Laundromat a few weeks later with your traditional set up and terrible burned free coffee, but no one talked. It was awesome! This introvert can't have nice things like Loom. But, seriously, check them out and stay awhile, you know, since you kind of have to. Bring friends and make it a day. Loom is great! read more

I really love this place. It's a bar, arcade and laundromat all in one. It's really a vibe. It's comfortable to go on weekdays and it can get pretty packed on weekends so I stick to weekdays. The washers don't take forever. They have a change machine as long as you bring cash. The dryers are huge so you can fit at least 2 loads in one of them. They have one free game you can play and it's a sega genesis with a few games to put in it. Feel free to bring your own if you have any. This is a pet friendly place too I love coming here. My friend loves the tater tots (in star shape) but dislikes the burger. They also have shrimp quesadillas which I have yet to try. Go here to do your laundry during the week, you won't regret it.
