Kind and attentive, but not over bearing. We had a girl lunch and didn't mind that we sat for a long time to talk. We all offered something different and all were delicious. Very fresh and tasty! I had chicken tamales. They tasted different from any other tamale I've had. The corn masa was ground finer and a lighter color. Plenty of chicken and a bit of verde sauce on each one. Three in the order. Also ordered was the steak burrito that came with a side of beans and the enchiladas verde. Everyone was pleased! A load of sourdough bread was purchased to take home. Holy cow, where to begin? Nothing but rave reviews for this place. It's off the beaten path, far back from the road and just outside of 465. I hope word of mouth helps this place stay alive because the food and drinks are outstanding. I had the Pasta Huancaina, which is a great example of not judging a book by its cover. It looks like pasta covered in Velveeta sitting on a pile of thick brown water. Do not be fooled. The "Velveeta" is a mildly spicy aji amarillo pepper sauce and the brown is a lomo saltado sauce similar to a poutine gravy. They combine to make a rich and creamy pasta dish, with the pepper cutting the spice enough from making the dish too heavy. Add in their house made crusty bread and it's a perfect meal. If it isn't spicy enough for you, they have a house-made Salsa Macha to add some extra heat. If I could rate Macizo 1000 stars, I absolutely would. Incredible, I can't say enough great things about this place, the food, and the people! We went the evening their James Beard nomination was announced, so it was understandably very busy, but even so, the staff were one of the best parts - so kind, friendly, and attentive to everyone's needs. The food was also amazing (fruit with chamoy one of my favorites). Places with great food often lack with good service, but I would suggest that the service here is one of the best parts. One of the best restaurants in Indiana. The food is so well crafted, balanced in flavor, and original. I can't think of another place that prepares food like this. The dishes are familiar, and the taste is wow. Sopa criolla, enchiladas verdes, torta de carnitas, and huevos con mole were all very good. The huevos con mole was a great vegetarian option. It was flavorful, savory, and the red and green moles were fantastic. The house made sourdough bread served with it was fantastic. The salsa macha, a condiment served with the meal, was so very good. Spicy, but the flavors are amazing. We had to leave with a jar of it! The dessert we shared, +HIZO bread a la mode is a must get. I may order one all for myself next time I go. It's that good! The dishes were refined, ranking right up there with high-end restaurants, without the high-end prices. The food was approachable, it felt like we were dining in their home. The service is impeccable. From the welcoming greeting right when we walked in, to the friendly server, and meeting one of the owners, who checked in and shared stories about their passion for food and the dishes. What a fantastic restaurant. This may even be my new favorite place! First off, the food is amazing. Everything I've had so far has been both unique and exquisite. It makes me want to order the same thing every time but I'm trying to be good at trying all the different options. The married owners are Peruvian and Mexican so they decided to combine their 2 culinary cultures in this little restaurant. The inside is much nicer than the strip mall vibe you get from the outside. I tried some of the Peruvian food this time. Next time I'll mix it up and order some Mexican. But whatever food I get, I will definitely be ordering a bubbly drink again. They are traditional Peruvian alcoholic drinks that have an extra smooth texture due to the milk. Be sure to ask about them. We got to try a little of everything - sangria, guac, the corn dip, the tacos norteno, the enchiladas, and the pear pound cake! Sangria was excellent. Guac was delicious - served with focaccia which was unexpected, but we liked it! The corn dip needed a little more flavor, but when we added the spicy sauce that they bring to the table it was perfect. The enchiladas were awesome. I had been meaning to try Macizo for awhile since I had been hearing good things and couldn't believe they were hiding in the strip mall at 71st street and 465. I drive by here all the time! A friend and I shared the guacamole bowl which was fresh and a huge portion that would easily serve at least 3 as a starter. We had a side of focaccia and sourdough bread which was fresh, warm and delicious and went well with the guacamole. The purple horchata was delicious and not overly sweet. For my entree I had the Enfrijoladas which were filled with flavorful carnitas and covered in a wonderful smoky bean sauce. Even the tortillas had great flavor. We were pretty full but still shared the seasonal cake and ice cream which was excellent. The flavors were amazing and we liked that the cake was warm but somehow the ice cream wasn't melting all over the plate. Service was excellent and the atmosphere is casual and bright. It was pretty quiet on a Thursday evening with only a few tables occupied the whole time we were there. They close at 8pm and we arrived around 6 departing a bit before 8. I hope this was an unusually quiet night as the food was wonderful! If you're driving around on 465, this is literally right off the exit ramp. Parking is free and plenty in the strip mall lot. Macizo's a Must! A foodie friend and I loved our experience at Macizo Restaurant last night. The food was delicious, the portions were generous, and the proprietress was a delight. I highly recommend a meal at this new spot on the northwest side, in Intech Park. Start with the Tiradito... a tuna appetizer topped with a creamy, citrusy, wonderful sauce. The crunchy roasted Peruvian corn on top would make a delicious snack all by itself. If it seems a tad pricy at $27, it's totally worth every penny. My companion and I took the advice of Luz, our charming host, and ordered sangria (choose from red, white, or rosé). My red was infused with blackberry and was refreshing and sweet. The white was a peachy blend and very enjoyable. We made it just in time for happy hour, which was a pleasant surprise. My Mole Enchiladas were outstanding... the mild shredded chicken absorbed the deep, smoky-fruity-chocolaty sauce. According to Luz, every Peruvian family has their own Mole recipe, and this is the one handed down from her mother. My companion's Sopa Criolla was absolutely delicious, and was presented beautifully with a slice of home-made rustic sourdough. Think of it as a Mexican version of ramen... a hearty broth filled with steak, noodles, potatoes, and a fried egg on top. That's probably what I'll order next time. Dessert options are limited, but we ordered the Flan and enjoyed it very much. It was mild and eggy, with notes of vanilla. I would have liked a spoonful of caramel sauce drizzled over the top, but that's a small quibble. There was a slight misunderstanding regarding the other dessert available... I thought our server said it was a peach-flavored item, but it's actually a pear poundcake topped with ice cream. I love pears, so that's definitely on my list for next time. The restaurant was spotlessly clean, and the smell of baking bread hit my nose the moment we walked in. We were warmly greeted, and were checked on regularly throughout our stay. The decor is a bit sparse, so don't go just for the ambience. Instead, go for the great food and for Luz's stories of time spent in her mother's kitchen. read more

I walked in to an empty restaurant, that was bright and welcoming! The music was playing and it was nice. The server was happy to greet and seat me..and was so excited to tell me about the menu. He gave me his options, but told me everything was good. It is not an extensive menu, which in my opinion, is great. It means everything is made with love. I started with the meatballs and they were truly to die for...and that focaccia that's served on the side...I'd go order it just to make a sandwich with at home! My second visit to this family owned Peruvian restaurant on the Northwest side. The menu isn't big but having heard great things about the soup it was already on my mind and sounded great after a short but cold hike at nearby Eagle Creek park. I treated myself to the mole latte, which came cold from nitro brew. It was delicious, with a little kick that hit late. My friend ordered the purple horchata, a solid choice. The Sopa Criolla was the perfect thing for a cold day. With beef, potatoes, noodles and an egg on top. I added some of the chili paste brought to the table to give it more of a kick-the soup on its own is flavorful but not spicy. My friend got the tacos, and loved the cheese placement between the two tortillas. I believe the owner took our order and checked on us; she was super sweet and appears genuinely happy to host her customers. Macizo is Indy's best hidden gem on the rise! I have to place it in my top 10 favorite restaurants in Indianapolis. I went with a peruvian friend, and I am mexican and Luz and her husband (owners of Macizo) took us back to our home countries with these two plates. I cannot recommend it enough!! We had the tiradito, which is like a peruvian sashimi. It was my first time trying it and I fell in love! The sauce was extremely flavorful and the fish tashed so fresh. The mole enchiladas were delicious, the consistency and flavors were just homey and I could tell it was made from scratch It was like eating at my grandmother's house in Mexico! By far best mole I have had in a restaurant in Indy. I also had the ube horchata as a drink, and I can really tell that the horchata was homeade from rice and milk and cinnamon! We finished with the pear pound cake with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and pistachios. The pound cake came out warm and moist, perfect amount of sweetness and the ice cream on top of it completed it. honorable mention: sourdough bread! My sister and I met some friends a frozen Wednesday evening, discovered an inviting staff with open quite large main dining room and side bar area. The menus for drinks and dining were smaller, funny Taco Bell throws a couple ingredients into fifty options. I can see this place sorting out a couple more excellent dishes to match their tamales, enchiladas, and sushi grade tuna appetizer we shared. Fresh, flavor forward, strong notes of citrus and almonds, all worked together with the mole, salsa verde, and so much to rave on. YASSSS, where do I start? While the interior is not exactly radiating ambiance, it's a bit stark and plain, the food and the service will absolutely justify the 5 start rating. It's always a gamble when you walk into a restaurant with a group unannounced. But I usually pick slow days, early times and arrive early to give the restaurant time to put together tables and ready themselves. I was asked if I wanted to wait at the bar area while they prepare for us. Once at the bar, I ordered a Sangria. You get a choice of red or white. I prefer the white, just saying. And it was delicious. However, she also asked me if I wanted done or two? For a minute I thought do I look like a drunk, but she explained that they do offer a Happy Hour and have a Sangria special if you order before 6pm. Two sangrias for $15 and it is regularly $12 for just one. I was on board immediately The nice thing is, that you don't get both at the same time unless that's what you prefer. They will give you one and then check back with you whenever you are ready for the second. You can also mix and match, white or red. Both are delicious btw. I ordered the Pasta Huancaina and it was so freakin' good. Didn't look like a lot at first, but it actually is quite a lot of pasta. A tower of pasta with a creamy delectable sauce, well more like a coating because it was definitely adhered to the past itself. This comes on a bed of Saltado sauce which is to die for. I wish there had been a bit more of that. And a side of delicious toasted sourdough bread on the side. Think I'll ask for untoasted next time. Alltogether I am definitely hooked on this dish now. Of my group of 12, every single person was happy with their meal and that doesn't happen very often. Also everyone expressed that they would love to come back for more. The service is attentive, efficient and an absolute delight. Large private lot outside makes parking a breeze, which is another plus. The portion size is good and I did not order any sides. The mole sauce is excellent as was the verde. The chicken in the enchilada was somewhat bland but the sauce made up for it.
