LuxBar is an oldie but a goodie. I've only been for brunch but they've got the best steak & eggs deal around at $17, especially for the Gold Coast. They've also got a great club sandwich and grilled cheese and tomato soup. I recently tried the Nutella waffle and it's topped with a whipped Nutella cream and bruleed bananas. I love a bruleed banana! Can get very busy so make reservations! read more

The food is excellent but the staff is EXCEPTIONAL. So gracious. My steak was cooked incorrectly and the hostess apologized vehemently and said it was her mistake. Even though it of course was not her fault (it happens) the immediate accountability was so refreshing and appreciated. Made the experience 1000000/10 enjoyable. read more

Nice spot. Service was really good, drinks were also pretty good. Ordered smoke wings which were phenomenal with the buffalo dipping sauce. Had a half a rack of ribs and Brussel sprouts. Ribs needed some tlc. Brussel sprouts were fine but missing the bacon which once brought to the attention to the manager, she quickly addressed the issue. I would be willing to give this location another try when I visit Chicago. The location of this restaurant was in a really cool area. read more

If I could add five more stars, I would. My family and I visiting Chicago from Louisville, Kentucky, stumbled on to this marvelous place and what a find! The restaurant has a brunch menu replete with selections that make it hard to decide amongst them, so we all had something different. From my son's French toast (pictured) to my traditional skillet breakfast to my DIL's avocado toast, we ate like royalty. The servings are huge, and my two year old granddaughter ate two orders of Nueske's delicious bacon in addition to her kids menu pancakes. As excellent as the food and ambience are, the very best part of our breakfast was our server Kendra. Saturday morning in a crowded restaurant is always challenging and not only did she deliver steaming hot food, she also checked on us frequently and responded to our many needs quickly and with patience and good humor. I cannot say enough good things about this place-we will make it a permanent stop on future Chicago visits. Thanks to the staff for a memorable and perfect vacation brunch. read more

Went here for brunch during Thanksgiving holiday. Place was packed n super busy because located in shopping district in Chicago. We ordered schnitzel, burgers, calamari. Food was excellent, definitely tops. However we ended waiting over 40 mins for simple burgers then waitress realized she forgot to input that order. That tells me some order control and training needs to be done there . Manager came by and apologized several times ..that was in good form and mistakes happen. I would give them a second chance but I can't change the fact that family was completely miffed and don't wanna go there again. It was my first time and dunno what the history of service is like. One of our Chicago Gold Coast favorites! Try to get here at least once a month, and even more when we have visitors and bring them. Much overdue review, as we've been coming here a few years now. Great location around all the shops, very walkable and pretty condo/brownstone streets, and has both indoor and outdoor dining during the warmer months. We've sat in all areas, and the patio and dining are our favorites. The bar is also nice, but is pretty tight with tables/chairs and typically TVs on so can get loud. They're known for their old fashions and Moscow mules, which we've also enjoyed. We don't branch out much with the food we have, because we know what we like. Our favorites are starting with the chicken tenders and calamari, and entrees the Luxe Club, Turkey burger, or Cobb Salad (add chicken). Highly recommend reservations, as it does get busy on prime days/times. Service is typically good, but what I appreciate most is that they usually have a few managers on duty that check in each table and make sure things are going well. Ryan is one of the managers who was fantastic for a more recent visit. read more

Espresso martini was just how I like it - dark and actually tastes like good coffee. The burger was pretty good although there are many other spots I think are even better. Get the Cobb salad and the Bellini, neither will disappoint. The Buffalo chicken salad and the old fashioned were solid but nothing special. The place was very crowded and loud so if you can sit outside, take it! Tip: outside seating will likely need a reservation as they are in high demand. read more

I've been to luxbar 3x and it's been fantastic every time! Food is fantastic and service is phenomenal. My favorite is the truffle fries, must try. The most recent time, Leandra was so attentive and made suggestions to our meal that made it 10/10. The surrounding area is very upscale, it's great for a girls night, birthday, or special event. pParking can be tricky, but it's overall fantastic and near a lot of areas if you want to keep the night going. read more

YUM! Everything we ate here was delicious on a cold november day, but i have to acknowledge the tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwich. WOW! So good... The downstairs area is your classic bar with wood benches, bars, and features. The service was wonderful and we were so pleased we tried to go back again a second time the same weekend. You'll be happy with whatever you get and the upstairs looked like a great place to hold an event. Elevated comfort food without feeling like the dish was compromised by "fanciness". Its upscale but not stuffy! Great for groups or couples. If you like pretzels, they are a must here! Enjoy! read more

Luxbar was a nice spot for lunch. I got the hummus for an appetizer & the kale salad. Salad was really fresh & solid. Hummus was very watery & did not have much flavor. The environment was fun. BRUNCH REVIEW! We got a table inside without a reservation on a Sunday no problem. Our server was super charismatic and knew a ton about the menu. The food was fantastic! Fresh squeezed OJ and homemade food all the way down to the details. I'm talking jam and pickles from scratch. Because they're owned by Gibson's, they had the first USDA approved and owned cows so the beef is top notch. The portions are big enough to split too! Totally recommend for brunch read more

I was in Chicago for a quick trip, I ended up at the luxbar OMG it was an amazing full experience. Not just the great food but the amazing friendly educated staff. They know what they are doing. Yes the food was absolutely amazing, but that was just part of the night. Kevin the bartender was like a personal guid to happiness. The team culture in this place is hard to find and is symbiotic at the highest level. They respect their craft. read more

We came for the double tap drink because I hear it really strong, however they were out. Instead tried the Not Mai-Negroni, pretty good. Just as snack we tried the smoked chicken wings with Buffalo sauce, decent and the Macaroni and cheese a tad on the bland side. The place gets packed fast and they don't take reservations. We got there around 9pm ish had to wait about 30 mins for table inside. Our waitress Shannon was very helpful in helping us select our beverages, thanks again we'll definitely be back to try those double taps! read more

Check them out for a great weekend brunch. We came with 8 adults on a busy Sunday, and our waiter did a great job keeping up with our drink orders and making sure we had everything we needed. Several of us had the Bloody Mary and added on the $1 Modelito. The Bloody Mary had a great flavor and consistency and it was topped with a skewer of delicious toppings. My mom and I split the Eggs Benedict and a half order of the French toast. This gave us the perfect blend of sweet and savory. I ordered from DoorDash but had to come yo Yelp to leave a proper review and prevent people from making the same mistake I did. Honestly, the pictures I attached say enough, the labeled macaroni gratin is what was advertised, the unlabeled is what I got. I mean, this is straight up false advertising. Fraud. Catfishing of the highest degree. And no, this is not a situation where the looks were deceiving lol and it came out better than it looked. It tastes like it looks, bland and gray. I got the Bellvue burger as well and it was just average. Good enough for me to get through (I'll give it juiciness) but nothing exciting. My opinion is probably worse because of the above LOL. This is not the meal I was expecting to be welcomed to Chicago with. read more

We ordered take out the other night and it was delicious. I called the order in. Even though it was late, the guy on the phone assured me it wouldn't be a problem for the kitchen that was getting ready to shut down. I drove over and picked up my order that was ready right on time. The bartender greeted me warmly by name when I walked in. He was so friendly yet professional. His gracious service both on the phone and in person was very impressive. When I got home, I found a perfect order. Everything was exactly how we had asked. The portion size was fantastic as well. My friend loved her burger. I had hoped for more of a chopped salad with iceberg and other lettuce options. Although it wasn't what I had expected, I enjoyed my salad with shrimp just the same. The side of brussel sprouts was delicious. We added martinis made at home and enjoyed a nice meal. My impression of my carry out experience was positive. It reminded me to visit and eat in the dining room sometime soon. It's been a while but now LuxBar is back on my radar. read more

Were able to walk right in and get seated at a booth though it looked to be one of the very few seats open on a busy Wednesday. Luxbar will always be one of my favorite go-to Chicago restaurants. Unbelievable food. Always great service, good prices, and awesome ambiance. It's usually crowded but not packed but I've never had to wait long to get seated even without a reservation. Sit at the bar and hang out. You'll be happy you did. We have been to birthday parties, an engagement party and just a stop-in any Saturday for the heck of it events. We always walk out happy. Burgers are awesome. Same with soups, salads, and sandwiches. Honestly you can never go wrong with Luxbar!!! This is consistently a 5 Star Place in my book. read more

Wow, was there yesterday on my day off with a couple of friends. Being a woman of transgender experience I never know how I'll be greeted and treated. The host was pleasant the waiter was great. Bravo for who ever set the tone and is guiding/motivating the staff to serve guest just as that, as guests. He used the proper pronouns when addressing my girlfriend and I. A solid Chicago spot in the heart of Gold Coast. Any hour of the week, this place is popping off. LUXBAR caters to every occasion - sports games (they have TVs), date nights, group dinners, birthday celebrations, casual dinners, you name it. Anytime I visit on weekends however, it certainly feels very "young," always packed with 20-30 year olds celebrating birthdays or other milestones (yes, I am also speaking from personal experience). Solid burgers, amazing drinks, tremendous truffle fries, great salads (love the kale & hazelnut one) and an OUT OF THIS WORLD cookie skillet dessert (second favorite dessert in my life). Place is usually packed, so if you can, make a reservation in advance. When it's overly busy, you can expect minor mishaps with orders and delays, but that's with any spot as popular as LUXBAR. read more

If they tell you the wait is 2 hours and you have 2 hours to kill, there are a bunch of bars in the area where you can have some drinks and an appetizer (and not feel like you're stiffing Au Cheval; they're the ones with the 2 hour wait, what do they expect people to do?) Not much to say about the decor or ambience; it's a typically loud West Loop bar with mostly 20 - 30 somethings all trying to one-up each other with their trendiness that instead makes them all basically clones of each other. It is crowded, and you're a moron if you think any place like this is suitable for your 5 year old. That's not the restaurant's fault - it's not Chuck E Cheese. Often I wish Yelp offered a 1/2 star option, because there are places that are a 4.5 or a 3.5. Not in this case. 3 stars is spot-on.

Julio was professional, attentive, and generous. He brought out meatballs on the house, which were excellent. I ordered calamari, rigatoni alla vodka with shrimp, and what I believe was a chocolate torte for dessert (also on the house, which I was not expecting). Everything was spot on. The rigatoni in particular stood out. It was made in house and had the kind of texture and quality you notice right away. The Manager (Lance) also stopped by, having been present when I explained what had happened earlier. That kind of awareness and follow-through matters more than people realize. It what separates a place that serves food from a place that understands hospitality. By the time I was finishing dessert, I found myself watching pizzas go out to nearby tables and immediately reconsidering my menu choices for the evening. That's usually a good sign. The host who initially joked about the wait time also came by at the end of my meal. She was polite, thoughtful, and clearly intentional about making sure the experience landed well. I appreciated this gesture. When the bill came, I asked what the total would have been without the discounts and complimentary items. Once I had that number, I tipped Julio the difference. We had to wait a little bit for a table so we sat at the bar because my friend and I aren't drinkers. We just had glasses of water while we waited for our table. Once we got seated, our server took our order relatively quickly and we ordered the House made for Kasha with a goat cheese and honey topping, the grilled octopus appetizer, and because we were enjoying our conversation so much we ended up just skipping Wright to dessert and ordering the gooey butter cake. For a light meal, this was relatively satisfactory. Our server said they come to the octopus because we waited so long, so it was nice that the staff was acknowledging that we waited a little bit for our table and we're willing to compensate us. As someone who lives in the river north area, I have actually been here, probably a dozen times, and it's always a good little spot but a little bit pricey for what you're getting. I would still probably come back with some friends, but I wouldn't go on my way to come here if I was bringing people off from out of town.
