Why did I not know that this place has karaoke. It was a busy one today and the last stop was Home Depot, again. As Lulus was right across the street, a nice cold one was brewing. The place looked empty as there was only give or take 4 cars in the whole massive parking lot. Didn't bother us as we only wanted to stop in for a quick cold one before heading back. Well, they were a few people at the bar. From what I get from it, they were regulars. Also a different bartender than usual. Chatted up with him a bit and found out that he normally works the restaurant section and was taking over for someone lately. Well, it was karaoke which we didn't not know. More like the same one who was up and singing. It's not a younger crowd which I believe they're trying to lean in on that. Trying to mix up the crowd. Also we caught the last of happy hour. I thought it ended at 6 but this place goes on till 7:30. Drink specials on drafts beer, specialty drinks and so on. And half off on appetizers which is a major plus except the sampler platter. Got a cold one which lead to wanting something to munch on. I do like their fried mozzarella sticks with warm marinara sauce and the fried zucchini with ranch sauce. A good appetizer item and for the price, it was perfect. Cheesy thick mozzarella sticks which were perfect with the sauce. Also the portion was great for both dishes. Quick and easy snack, can't beat that. Deep fried food which calls for another round. The crowd was pretty fun. Same two guys up and singing. They were having a good time which made the vibe pretty chill and mellow. Cheap eats and drinks and it goes in till 7:30. Can't beat that. There's plenty of parking in the lot. There's also a restaurant which I I believe ive eaten at over 15 years ago. We normally stop by for a beer if we're in the area. Service was great. The gentleman taking over at the bar was doll and fun. It a no fuss simple local bar restaurant.

We come to Lulu's often for breakfast or lunch, and it never disappoints. It's very family-friendly and casual, but the food is so delicious and comforting. The portions are generous, and everything has that classic comfort-food feel. The servers are always friendly, and there are great options for both breakfast and lunch. This time my husband got the French toast, and I ordered the spicy chicken sandwich--both are some of our favorites and always hit the spot. Definitely a great go-to place when you want something tasty, filling, and relaxed.

Upon closer inspection, Lulu reminds me of a Hobbit like structure with undulating roof line, round, red brick lined window, and organic, earth tone interior. It only needs a round door entrance. I would imagine Bilbo Baggins would dine here. Many different environments so you can sit on tall stools at the small bar, main dining with standard tables, banquet hall, outdoor patio. Theme is airplanes since Lulu sits near the edge of Van Nuys airport. The menu is mostly American diner fare. But what caught my eye was the Jambalaya on the menu. Thanks to Yelpers who took detailed photos to see if this Jambalaya were composed competently. We're not in Southern Louisiana in places like Lafayette, Duson. Rayne, Saint Martinville, but considering we were in Van Nuys, California, Jambalaya here is definitely a must get. The roux is not smokey, nor redolent with butter, but seems more of a vegetable oil and flour mix. The thickened, dark sauce, which may be fortified by soy sauce, has a good fond de cuisine Umami. The Cajun-Créole Mirepoix or the Aromatic Holy Trinity of onion, bellpepper, celery is well represented. Two, whole shrimp shell on, chicken breast strips which were meaty & moist. Traditionally there would be Andouille sausage, but what seems like dense, savory Italian sausage bits were there to add a bit more chaw with flavours of porkiness, fennel and black pepper. Standard is rice, which I have plenty at home. So the taciturn waitress suggesting linguine pasta, that was not quite al dente, was a good suggestion. Service is adequate. You don't get the feeling of a friendly small town diner. If you're a single diner, this isn't the place for even a bit of short, small talk. Basically, you're just a number. Only for the Jambalaya, Lulu gets a B- for effort. May be the best thing on the menu that has some culinary imagination instead of standard diner schlock. 4- stars

Been coming here for years and it never disappoints I love the different planes all over the dining area. Definitely a cool airport vibe and it's close to Van Nuys airport so that's perfect The food is always great and portions are pretty big The staff is always so nice too. One of my favorite spots to bring people when they visit the valley for their first time

We came for Father's Day brunch and luckily there was no wait! The service and servers were pleasant and accommodating. There was a few hiccups with some sides missing but they fixed that right away. Restaurant is a little outdated but I guess that's the vibe with all the old school pictures and planes. The entrance is also not very welcoming. The food was good, standard no complaints really but nothing outstanding. Just a pretty good diner feed! I enjoyed the raisin French toast it was pretty good nothing crazy. Overall I'd come here again for a diner feed if I'm looking for something better than fast food!

I've driven past this place for the past 6 years or so, and never bothered to check it out. So me and my family decided to try it this Friday for something new and comforting. And to say this place was comforting would be an understatement! Everything from the decor, to the servers and the food felt like we were all back in the 80s & 90s. Huge portion sizes, friendly staff, and a great atmosphere for a place that's been around since the 60s. For a first timer, I can definitely say I'll be back, either on my own, or with other family! This is a perfect place to build community and enjoy some great food

Everything is good. I enjoyed everything. I also ordered a southwest chicken salad. The service was very good and I really enjoyed my meal.

I understand the authenticity of Lulu's as a locals diner and I've been here a handful a times but my recent visit... man. We were part of a group of about 16 people. Since it was earlier in the morning I wasn't too hungry so I thought ordering some chicken tenders would be a good idea. I have also been craving some nachos and shared that with my sister. The orders were all taken, everything was correct and the food was brought out in a timely manner. Things were great until the chicken tenders and the nachos arrived. The nachos were really sad looking. To me it seemed like someone just plopped some items over chips and called it a day. There wasn't enough cheese to even call it nachos, plus what little cheese that was there wasn't even melted correctly. Then we have the chicken tenders. I was confused if it was chicken tenders because it looked more like fish and chips. The batter was very bready and some parts were undercooked. Decided to tear through and just eat the chicken parts but that wasn't good either. I couldn't even tell you what kind of dipping sauce they provided was. Overall the service was great and I am glad that Lulu's is still around serving the locals. Maybe my choice of items was just the wrong moves while the other people in the party seem to have better dishes. Parking: med private lot VERDICT: One and done

5 stars of course! The food was great and the service was excellent by the waitress that served us during lunchtime on 9/15/16, around 1:00 o'clock. She was very attentive and courteous. I'd go back in hoping she'd be on duty. Today, 10/31/2016, my friend and I went back to further enjoy the wonderful service we got from our favorite waitress, Jessie. She's the best in many years of my experience with eating out, which I rarely do since I love to cook and stay on a monthly budget. It was well worth it to eat here today...good food and excellent service! read more

Want to sit and gab forever with a friend over diner food and not be given stink eye because you stay too long?? Want a place where the wait staff brings you Mimosas like you drank back in college?? Tell the Mailman NOT to call~ I won't be back until the Fall~ If I'm comin' back at all, 'Cuz~ LuLu's back in town!!!! Sorry, I can't pass up a Leon Redbone moment whenever it is presented to me. Now most nearly ALL of us wouldn't want to come to the belly of the San Fernando "Gully" (Valley), but this place still gets enough "Aviator" patronage from Van Nuys Airport to keep its quality up!! Location: near Roscoe and Balboa. Good parking. Customer Service: excellent. I had the impression the manager already knew my boyfriend. All the staff was equally as nice and friendly. Food: it was noontime but I ordered an omelet...Lulu Scramble. It was good. I can see myself having it again. I was able to substitute for egg whites and further change out potatoes and bread for cottage cheese and tomatoes. My boyfriend's crepes were overcooked and more like tortillas. Price: good. I live in a skilled nursing home. I can't go out to eat so I use eat24 or grub hub and found Lulu Restaurant, I order when I have visitors and order for other patients and staff. Every single thing I is delicious and a good portion. Everyone loves my little find I read facebook and look at karaoke night and my favorite nite Saturday jazz. Wow, only if I could go this would be a place where everyone would know my name, I be a loco, I mean a local!! So many things this family restaurant does makes the feeling of the family. I hope I continue to be able to have them deliver for me but I won't tire of telling people about this place, it is an oasis in a time that the things you ordered 5 years ago are half the size but not at Lulus. The only knock on this place is the location. If you're not from "the valley", then traffic and distance would make it a bit of a haul. HAVING SAID THAT, the first thing I noticed when I went in the restaurant were the friendly people. The waitress greeted me as if I were her long lost son! I ordered the Chicken Caesar Salad, and MAN OH MAN! I couldn't finish it! They threw so much chicken in that thing; even Col. Sanders would have been jealous! There was so much lettuce, Parmesan cheese, dressing and chicken in that thing, that I was only able to knock off about 2/3 of it! The prices were fair, and the food was really good. They even have a Karaoke bar, but I didn't get in on that (it was a Friday night when I went in there). Upon leaving, the dude at the register seemed really concerned with my experience there. I found out that most of the employees have been working in this restaurant for more than 15 years. That lets me know that the management cares about his people just as much as he cares about his service and food. Like I said, if you're not in the valley, then it might be a bit of a stretch to get there for food (I was out there picking up a car at a nearby dealership), but if you're close to there, or live in the valley, then heck yeah get in there and get stuffed!....With food. read more

So I went to this restaurant was seated, and I sat around for 20 minutes waiting for somebody to take my order. So after that I went up to the counter and said I just want to pay for my coffee and they asked what was wrong and I said apparently I can't get any service. So I informed them I just want to pay for my coffee and leave, and I informed them that I will never come back to this establishment again for the way I was treated, and if they're willing to treat a customer like that what are they willing to do to the food,so basically they took a great family restaurant and made it into a joke. This is a review for the "pulled pork sandwich" and nothing else. I had it delivered through Postmates and let me give you forewarning....it was TRASH. The "pulled pork" had an awkward and almost mushy texture. I couldn't figure out if the pulled pork was too salty our sour(it honestly could have been both) but regardless, I could only eat it after masking the flavor with BBQ sauce. Lastly, the bread was this long and flimsy unappetizing mess. I ate 25% before I tossed it. Long story short, avoid the pulled pork sandwich if your a customer and if you are the establishment please reevaluate this item. Love Alex read more

History

Established in 1976.

At Lulu's, we have been a family owned restaurant since the summer of 1976. Our history means a great deal to us and to you, our valued customer. Although we have been around longer than most, you will find us innovative and fresh in both our décor and our menu. From the beginning, our restaurant was busy. Owner Elliott Smith needed skilled hands for the kitchen to provide consistent high quality meals for our guests. He quickly found a hard working enthusiastic college student to work the line, by the name of Mike Camorlinga. Mike turned out to be the best choice; as he stayed long term working his way up to General Manager and successfully took full ownership in 2012.

Meet the Business Owner: Mike C.

Our staff at Lulu's follows the same principles and traditions - dedication to providing our guests the ultimate dining experience, each and every visit. While never forgetting where we came from, we continuously strive to create something new. We are conveniently located at Roscoe and Balboa Boulevards in Northridge. We have plenty of parking, and we welcome clubs and organizations to use our banquet facilities. We hope to see you soon at Lulu's!

Had the best birthday celebration at Best Ball!…read more Everyone completely surprised me, and somehow managed to pull off a birthday party that started with a 5K complete with race bibs and a medal at the end! As a runner, that was such a fun and personal touch. From the run to the party, everything was perfect. Thanks to my sister and man for celebrating me like this! Afterward, we headed to Best Ball where we ate, drank, laughed, and spent a couple of hours having a great time. The food was really good, the drinks were flowing, and the atmosphere was fun without feeling overcrowded. There's a full bar and a large restaurant area with plenty of seating, so it was easy for everyone to hang out together. The service here is amazing they took care of us and we had a DJ and a photo booth outside to make it more festive! The babe even brought the cake over the day before and they were so great at keeping it. Whether you're there to golf, celebrate, or just spend time with friends, this place is a great spot. My favorite people, lots of laughs, good food, and a surprise birthday I'll never forget. What more could I ask for? We run here in the dark, daytime and evenings and pass this restaurant all the time we will be coming here more often. Lots of parking out in the front. Plus we were meeting early which also happy hour was still happening. I think it's from 3-6. Even at 5 in the afternoon, there was no parking in the lot. And the residential parking was pretty much packed. As I had my little pup with me, we needed a table outside. It's been a while since I was seated outside. Usually it's been in the bar area. They have a back gate at the patio but it was locked. First off, the place was packed. It's been a while since it's been like that. Or maybe I've only been coming during happy hour. Also, it's somewhat seems to be a thing where you have to ask for the happy hour menus. Anyways, their items are pretty decent for prices. Drinks specials and some of the food items are worth it. We alway get a pitcher of beer for the table to share. Food wise, a couple of the ceviche. Either fish or shrimp and that's served with a tostada chip. For 12.00, it's pretty decent in size and quite tasty. Between the fish or shrimp, I prefer shrimp better. Also, two street tacos for 5.00 with many choices of protein. Lastly, the loaded fried nachos for 12.00. Let's say when they mean loaded, it was loaded. That too comes with your choice of protein which I went with the al pastor. The food was great. Reasonable price and well portioned. Plus the chips and bean dip to start off. They also accommodate some salsas with chips which is nice. Before it would alway be the bean dips and you would have to ask for the salsa. If you want fresh guacamole, they have someone that will prepare it table side to your liking. This visit, there was also the mariachi band walking around asking people if that wanted any requests. The service was great, the staffs all are amazing and friendly. Some familiar faces which is nice.

When we got there, there were only a few tables with guests in the whole restaurant, likely because we got there at 8pm and they close at 9pm. But we stood at the front for a few minutes before anyone greeted us, and when we finally were "greeted", a man just came up to us and looked at us with confusion and didn't say anything, just raised his eyebrows. I said, "Hi! We have 5 adults. May we sit outside please?" He said sure and guided us outside to our table with not much said. We waited quite a while before a server came over to us, and it ended up being the same guy that brought us to the table originally. He came over to us and said, "Drinks?" It was sort of awkward how unwelcome we felt. That was pretty much our entire experience with the server: very slow service, and very few words. Once we put our food order in, we grabbed the Uno deck at a neighboring table to play until the food came out. That was actually really fun! But we waited for the food for so long - playing multiple games of Uno with 5 people and still not having our food. It was painful - especially since it seemed there was not much going on around us. Our hope was the food would be a saving grace here to our first time experience at this restaurant, but unfortunately it was not. My father-in-law liked his salmon dish, and my husband said the steak melt was decent, rating it at a 6.5-7/10. My mother-in-law said she liked her French dip, but barely touched it. My sister-in-law's short ribs had way too much sauce on it and too much salt, so she could not finish hers either because of that. My truffle burger was overwhelmed by blue cheese to the point where you could not taste anything else, so I also could not finish mine because of that. In the end, we all spoke about it and the highlight for our family was that they had Uno available for tables to play. But unfortunately we all agreed we would never be back.

Famous for being cash only, and for pouring drinks stiffer than last week's cadaver, this unabashed dive bar attracts a crowd that can be friendly or fierce, depending on the time of day or the number of drinks consumed. But the staff is uniformly friendly (huge shout out to the always wonderful Rebecca), and, again, the generosity of the pours makes up for the other flaws in their flue. The walls are covered with more vendor-branded signs and mirrors than you can shake a swizzle stick at, and they've got several TV's playing the current games. They don't serve food here, but they've got plenty of snacks available for purchase to counteract the gargantuan pours, and people bring in meals from the adjacent eateries. This is not the place you bring someone on a first date -- or a 50th -- but if you do bring in a mate, and they do say, "hey this is fun," then you should start shopping for curtains.

How bogus and rigged is this site?My review is on to this filtered list. But the waitress I was served by here (Kimberlee W) gets to leave this dump a 5 star review and does not get filtered? And most bad reviews for this joint get filtered?Yelp must get free food or payoffs from lulus! I wouldnt bother but the dude that runs this place got me angry enough to where I gotta make an exepshion.Im a burger guy. There aint nothing like a great burger. Last week me and my bud were on out driving and I was starving and he had been here once and said they used to make good burgers but he hadnt been here in a couple years. We went in and the guy I thought was the manager (more on him to come) seated us down.Real nice guy.Sorry I dont remember his name but he was a big dude dressed all in biege who did not have a name tag on.I think he said his name was something like Mick but let's call him big biege dude. The waitress was a girl Kimberlee. She was real nice as well.We ordered and thats where the problems started. My bud ordered some wqings and I ordered a burger of course and I ordered it the way I always do which is medium. It took a while which was wierd because there were only 1 other cupple in the place. When it got there my burger was rare.Like really rare.and the bread on the bottom was soggy from the juice it was so rare.Kimberlee took the burger back to the kitchen and a few minutes later it comes back. Now it's not a new burger but the same burger thrown onto the same soggy bread as before! This time I get medium rare!Dude! How hard is it to cook a burger? So thinking he's the manager I call over the big biege dude and ask him if hes the manager and he apologised that hes as far from a manager as it gets around there but would I like him to get the manager for me?He get's me the manager. Now THIS guy is where it went from bad to worst. The dudes name is Carlos and I tell him that first of all I wanted medium and got rare and the bread was all soggy and stuff. Then I sent it back and got the same burger on the same soggy bread medium rare and all I want is a medium cooked burger on some decent kind of bread! The dude looks at my burger and starts arguing with me that this is medium and around here maybe I should order medium well if I don't want it that pink. I mean seriously dude?I have to learn your places rules before ordering and you are gonna argue with a customer and tell me I dont know what medium is? I've been ordering medium since I was a kid dude!So this guy takes my plate back to the kitchen and hes telling the cooks about the burger and me and they are chukkling and looking at me and hey guess what?I speak and understand spanish real well.I also have great hearing. So when you are talking **** about me back and forth with your cooks I can hear what your saying and understand you.Thew big biege dude came by and asked if everything was alright and I asked him to sit down for a bit and told him what was happening. He aplologised and told me that this Carlos dude is a good guy and that this place really does try to serve great food and how they have been making a lot of changes lately.Really built the place up, you know what I mean.I asked him why they would keep sending me the same burger of the same wet bread over and over again and mainly why any manager would argue with a customer about whose right?I could understand if the joint was hopping that ther qauality might be off on an order or two but it was a ghosttown in there and all I had ordered was a simple burger cooked medium style but that what was really bringing me down now was how this manager dude and the cooks are making fun of me and talking **** about the thing.Like this Carlos dude is not taking the problem seriously at all.He apologised again and said he was just a driver there and he went and came back with a take out menu and said to please try us again and give us another chance to make it right and that the coupons on the menu were good any time including now and showed us the 5 dollar off one and told us he hoped that might make up a little bit for how I felt about the food and service and make us give them another shot.Carlos brings the burger back without a word and puts it in front of me and walks away.No Is this cooked the way you want it no waiting for me to take a bit and see if it was ok no nothing. This time it was cooked right but it was obvious they had just grilled the hell out of the SAME WET BREAD with the same toppings that were wilty and soggy as hell now.I gave up. The biege dude came by again and ask if everything was alright now and he really did seem to care.I told him yeah but I just ate the meat and we paid and left. No thanks and come back again or hope you enjoyed your meal.Just that Carlos dude taking our money and a smirky have a nice day.I'd give this place zero stars if I could but thatd be unfair to the dude who at least acted like he cared and tried to do right by me and my bud.So the stars for you biege dude. read more

This review is based on having food delivered from here and eating here a few times over the past weekend while I was up this way from San Diego visiting my folks. On Friday after picking me up at the Amtrack station we drove by this place and they mentioned how they had always wanted to go there. I was feeling fluey and exhausted from the trip so my folks went there on their own. They came back raving about having had the best ice cream sundaes they had ever had in their entire lives and as they were leaving the guy who made them their sundaes was leaving to go home as well. They thanked him for the great sundaes he got them a to-go menu from his car with some coupons on it and after finding out where they lived told them that they also delivered to that area and that he was one of the drivers there. So based on their raving it sounded to me like they had a 5 star experience. The next 2 nights, as I still was not feeling well, my parents decided to try the delivery service here. This is where things varied wildly. Saturday night I ordered a turkey dinner - gravy on the side, steamed vegetables instead of stuffing and a coke. My dad ordered a beef dip with fries and mom ordered a french onion soup and chicken nachos. We were thinking the guy from the night before would be showing up but a woman eventually showed up. It took a while for the food to get there (well over "30 to 40 minutes" we were told on the phone. My folks are not even 2 miles from Lulus). My dad answered the door and the whole thing seemed very rushed. It felt like "Here's your food, you owe me such and such, bye" as if she could not wait to get out of there. If there was a thank you for the $5.00 tip none of us heard it. Then there was the food itself: The nachos were completely crushed as if the top had been forced down on them and there was no salsa at all. The french onion soup had a very miserly portion of cheese on it and barely any onions in it. The coke, the soup and the juice for the beef dip were all wrapped up but very poorly, so that everything was leaking inside the plastic wrap and a real mess to unwrap. The fries were stone cold and according to my dad the beef dip smelled like the meat was starting to go bad and well past it's sell by date and he threw it away. My turkey dinner had gravy coming out of the box - not the gracy was not on the side as I had requested. It had dripped over the other food containers in the bag. The steamed vegetables I wanted were not steamed but these rather ghastly greasy grilled slices of carrot and zucchini. Worst of all it almost appeared as if somebody had shaken the container with the food in it. It was a complete mess. And no cranberry sauce :-(. The entire order was cold and had to be reheated in the microwave. We all felt let down by both the food and the indifferent attitude of the delivery person. 1 star. My folks were determined to give the place another shot so Sunday night we all ordered the same thing except this time my dad ordered the ribs with fries. This time our food arrived in about 30 minutes and the guy who delivered was the same guy who had made their sundaes 2 nights previously. The difference between everything from one night to the next was night and day. This guy was extremely kind and charming and appeared genuinely grateful for the $5.00 tip my dad gave him and was just as polite as can be. The order was beautifully packed: each item was individually wrapped, my vegetables steamed and not grilled and greasy, the gravy on the side, the french onion soup full of onions and with lots of cheese and croutons. None of the containers with the liquids in them (the coke, the soup, the gravy) were leaking. My turkey dinner looked great, my dad's ribs were perfection as he called them (and the fries were warm and crisp) and this time the nachos were packed with care with another foil container carefully put over them and wrapped, not some plastic top crushed onto them. This time there were 2 salsas and cranberry sauce and even rolls and butter (all of which were missing the previous evening). And another menu this time with more coupons to replace the one's we had used the previous evening. The best way I can put it is that the Saturday night meal felt like very mediocre food packed by somebody who didn't care and delivered by somebody who was just doing their job and nothing more. The Sunday night dinner, on the other hand, was packed beautifully with obvious, meticulous care and you could just tell by this delivery person's demeanor when he said "I hope everything is great and thank you for choosing Lulu's" that he really meant it and really hoped we would be pleased with everything and was not just saying words he has probably said a thousand times before - you felt he meant those words. On this night we were thrilled with every aspect of the experience. This was another 5 star experience. read more

I do not know why on earth my review of this place was filtered but let's try this again: On Friday 2-22-13 My fiance and I tried this place out for dinner. It was a very spur of the moment decision: we are unfamiliar with this part of the valley but were famished and on our way up Roscoe to the 405 when we saw this place and it looked charming from the outside so we just pulled in and decided to give this place a try. Parking was easy (their parking lot is huge) and we were seated right away. The waitress came over immediately to take our drink orders and we asked if they had any bread or anything at all that she could bring us for starters as we were staring and less than a minute later she brought out a loaf of wonderful fresh and hot sourdough with butter that took the edge off of our appetite and allowed up to take time looking at their menu (after we devoured the entire basket in seconds lol). I decided on the rack of ribs and my fiance decided on the veggie breakfast burrito. Both were absolutely great. I have not had ribs this good in years and according to my fiance the burrito was a delight and well above average. Our waitress was excellent as well. But there was one huge problem that kept this evening from being a perfect experience, and this is why I am rating this place with three stars instead of this being a five star review: Throughout the meal 2 of the employees at the counter were doing imitations of severely physically disabled people whenever this one particular girl would walk past them and say "you are not sexy" to her and laugh. This went on and on while we were there between about 6 and 7pm. It might have been some kind of in-joke, but for my fiance it was upsetting to the point where we had to skip dessert and coffee and leave (while she herself has no disabilities she comes from a family of severely physically disabled people). We asked the waitress during the meal who the 2 men at the counter were and she told us they were the owner and the manager. We paid our bill and left without making a scene or saying anything about the situation. In retrospect we probably should have said something as it upset my fiance enough to where she started crying unbcontrollably about the whole incident in the car on the way home. What is so sad is that this place has really great food, a big and varied menu, it's cozy and quiet inside, the parking is great and the waitstaff is excellent as well. This really did start out as a perfect night out and wound up a disaster. Were it not for the incredibly insensitive behavior of the two people running this place this is a restaurant I would recommend without hesitation and would have gladly have come back to myself. Sadly due to the spectacle we had to watch (the people at the table next to us saw and heard the whole thing as well as those two guys were being very loud whenever they broke into their handicapped routine) as my fiance said: "I do not ever want to set foot in that place again". read more

Today marks the conclusion of my patronage at Lulu's Restaurant, as my recent experience has left me with no desire to return. My initial encounter with Lulu's occurred several months ago when I ordered for myself and my nephews. Unfortunately, none of us found satisfaction in our meals. The loco moco, in particular, lacked authenticity and flavor, reminiscent of a subpar frozen dinner. Even my discerning nephew, typically enthusiastic about food, was dissatisfied after just a few bites--an experience I shared upon sampling the dish. Similarly, an oversight in our order request resulted in a sandwich or burger served with unwanted "cheese", which appeared to be Kraft singles, which legally cannot have cheese written on the packaging ...because it's not real cheese.. Despite this initial disappointment, I chose to give Lulu's another chance today, influenced by some positive reviews. However, the chilaquiles and wings we ordered failed to meet expectations. The chilaquiles lacked flavor, presentation, and were notably deficient in egg content. Furthermore, the wings appeared aged and dry, confirming suspicions upon the first bite. While the wing sauce provided a fleeting moment of enjoyment, it could not compensate for the overall lackluster quality of the meal. While hesitant to leave negative feedback, I believe honest reviews are essential for informed decision-making. Despite Lulu's apparent positive reputation, our experience has been consistently disappointing across multiple visits. While commendable packaging and a flavorful wing sauce are noted, they do little to salvage the overall dining experience, marred by stale chicken and lackluster execution. While Lulu's may have garnered four stars for some, my personal encounters have been consistently disappointing. I hope this critique serves as constructive feedback for improvement, as I cannot in good conscience recommend this establishment to others based on my experiences. read more

Lulu's is wondeful. I've been eating here as long as I can remember and it is one of the few places that has stayed consistent in quality and service for as long as its been around. The salads are gigantic and fresh (I get the BBQ chicken salad but I hear great tings about the Carne Asada Salad) and they have an entire page of sandwiches in the menu. I've yet to try something at Lulu's I haven't liked. For appetizers I would recommend the sampler platter so you can try a bit of everything, for Dessert, the what-a-cake is delicious. The service is always friendly and I really cant say enough good stuff about Lulu's. Put it this way, I live in west hollywood and try to make the trip over to Van Nuys as often as possible, not to mention I decided to write my first yelp review about it. If youre in the area, there is nothing better. read more

please. please. don't order from here. Incompetent, unsatisfactory terrible customer service. You're better off saving your money and picking another establishment. My order was put in at 2p.m in the afternoon. Showed up on time. Wrong food. Cold fried chicken. Salad was loosely packed and covered with saran wrap. It honestly looked as if somebody had opened and pick at the chicken in the salad.. Manager Aaron was very unprofessional. My total was $48.00 payed in cash. After 4 hours 6 calls too grub hub they had to get the Owner Mike to agree to send a refund...delivery guy showed up at 7:13p.m with only $24.74 to give me.. said the rest of my money will be brought tomorrow??? what kind of so called Restaurant does that.. Save your money people and plus the food is below average. you'll get food poisoning read more

The food is pretty good, it's really just the service that is hit and miss at this place. Either you're waiting forever for a server or she is at your table every twenty seconds asking if you're ready to order, which honestly is almost worse than waiting. The menu has a lot to choose from, which is great but if you're not a regular it might take you some time to decide. Isn't it universal restaurant language that when you ask for more time to decide and you're still reading the menu 1 minute later, you still need another minute! I kind of felt pressure to hurry up or leave, and I wanted to just leave. Pretty disappointing because I love a good neighborhood run down diner. I'll come back once I convince myself it'll be different this time, and then I'll probably be pissed again. read more

came here while visiting a friend that lives real close to this establishment. I had a great experience here. It was a Friday night and I expected to wait a minimum of 30 minutes when you just show up without a reservation. Well, NOT HERE! we were instantly seated and the it was not packed ( I have no clue why this place is a gem) The waitress was beyond nice, we had refills given to us thru out the whole time we were there. I did not go without any coffee the whole time. Now let me get started the about the food, I had a burger. I like burgers they did a great job with my burger I requested a medium rare that is what I got. The prices are amazing. I cant wait to come back. read more

My wife and I were invited to see a comedy show at this restaurant. The comedians were not who we were told would be there. One comedian Howy, who swears he was on Jimmy Kimmel, was the rudest, crudest most disgusting individual I have ever seen. I had been told many were on Jay Leno and Jimmey Kimmel, not to mention that the comedian Mike Marino would be there. Instead they had people that I have never heard of talking about having incest and being sodemized while we were trying to enjoy our food. The food? it was ok, just ok like a Dennys or Norms, nothing special. I would not recommend this for eating, comedy or anything else. I was embarassed that I took my wife there. read more

I love going to Lulus and have been going since I was a young, growing up in the San Fernando Valley. I recently went to Lulus for a group meeting and had a fabulous time. Monica was our server and she was incredibly attentive and friendly. We decided to order a few celebratory mimosas and they came in these fabulous large glasses. I had the tri tip sandwich with a side of french fries (which were cooked and seasoned to perfection), and we all split a tasty appetizer platter that had mozarella sticks, loaded potato skins, seasoned chicken, and stuffed jalapenos. Mike the owner is always so welcoming and I look forward to visiting Lulus again soon! read more

I have to say, I posted a poor review due to service and overcharging from this restaurant. The owner called me yesterday, and personally delivered a meal to us tonite. He indicated he talked to his staff and more than made up for my poor experiences with pricing and incorrect orders. I am very pleased with this restaurants response, and as I stated earlier the food was always good. Thank you LuLu's. You responded very well, when most restaurants would not have. I have been assured that the issue's with the old menu's and pricing have been corrected. Thank you again. I will indeed be ordering from you again and on a regular basis. read more

came to the valley over the weekend to visit my family.. They decided they wanted to come to one of their favorite restaurants here in the valley, literally walking distance from their home. WE arrived around four and lucky for me they had a happy hour.. Now let me tell you their drinks were sooo yummy so full of alcohol, and the fact that they their appetizers were half off too! Interesting that this place considers themselves a "Family" restaurant, I went by there a few weeks ago with my daughter and niece(ages 7 & 8) for dinner. When we arrived there was music and singing happening on the patio, and a middle aged man jiratting in nothing but a speedo, it was in an extreme sexual manner. You can not get into the restaurant without walking through the patio. Not sure why they would allow this type of action, and that man should move on to a dance club or a bar, he should be ashamed of his behavior. read more

I've lived in the SFV for more than 20 years and have passed by this restaurant so many times but never had the chance to try it until today and wow, I've definitely been missing out! The food was absolutely delicious! Everything we ordered was fresh, flavorful, and satisfying. The service was excellent as well. The staff was friendly, attentive, and made us feel very welcome. I can't believe it took me this long to finally give this place a try. Definitely a hidden gem in the Valley, and we'll absolutely be coming back! read more

Food was really tasty! Sat out on the patio on a beautiful day, for lunch, however, the patio needs a lot of work. Chairs stacked in the corner, plastic tables looked dirty. Needs a little TLC, maybe some table cloths and place settings for a more inviting feel. The restaurant and bar inside were clean. The bathrooms were clean also! Overall, the vibe was positive and upbeat. The staff were friendly and made us feel welcome! Next time I'm in LA, I am definitely going back to try the ribs and possibly a dessert! read more

Just got out of surgery and haven't eaten since last night. Needed something to eat and figured Mac and cheese and mashed potatoes would fit the bill. I'm sooooo disappointed in the mac and cheese....I threw it away and made my own mac and cheese at the house cuz Lulu's Mac and cheese is basically just shitty kraft mac and cheese, and it was a pretty small portion too. At least the potatoes we're decent, but they forgot the gravy of course. A bit disappointed today, Lulu's. read more
