Came here for a cute dinner before seeing an evening theatre show. It was pretty packed, so we decided to sit outside. I was honestly pleasantly surprised with the place. The service was quick, attentive, and they were super friendly. I can't recall exactly what I ordered, but they're pictured below. It's clear that this is an Asian fusion restaurant catered to a fancier audience. They blended some untraditional flavors and ingredients in their rolls. However, I was shocked to say that it worked pretty well. Flavors were balanced, beautifully plated, and everything was fresh and quick. The only downsides are the price and the portions. This place is pretty pricey for the amount you get. But if you want a cute date night, this is the place. The dessert is to die for. I'd come back just for the dessert alone.
Okay ambiance is very eclectic. It's giving daft punk with cherry blossoms sprinkled all over. We got the shittake and spinach dumplings, eggplant bao, dill-e sushi and robot ramen. The dumplings were so crisp and flavorful, and sat on a bed of some creamy sauce. As for the eggplant bao, it was fluffy and was equal parts tangy and hearty. The robot ramen broth was very flavorful and done so well! As for the dill-e, it's very interesting. It was a hot, fried sushi that sat on top of shishito aioli. I personally was not the biggest fan but it's an interesting dish. Expected better service for the price we paid but there was nothing glaringly wrong with it. Super cute spot for a date night/special occasion!
This is a pretty solid spot to grab Japanese/fusion type of food! We came around 11 am and had access to their brunch menu. FAVORITE ITEMS: - Bees Knees: a tad on the sweet side, if you ask for slightly less sweet, maybe it'd taste even better? It has a nice lavender flavor which really is so aromatic and delightful. I recommend this for sure! - Brussel Sprouts: sauce was really good, crispy exterior and flavorful. Def recommend this - Chirashi Bot: I got the fancier version which the chef chooses for you which cuts of fish, depending on what is available. The sushi rice with sesame seeds were really tasty, I would say you get a decent amount of fish but there is a lot of avocado. It's decent, fish was fresh. PARKING: pretty easy street parking nearby SERVICE: it took a while for the chirashi bowls to come out but the other food came out decently fast. PRICE: a bit on the pricey side, but the aesthetic inside makes it pretty cool. Overall, I'd prob recommend to folks who are coming by to try some spots in Austin! It's a cool concept and the food was solid. They also have a great music playlist!
Stopped by for happy hour and ordered a couple of items We tried the seasonal mule and whiskey spritz - both pretty good and $9 Tried the wagyu hot rock - pretty good for happy hour $9 and def add the salt for some extra flavor Tried the salmon, tuna, striped bass and yellowtail nigiri - all good but tuna and salmon were the best!! Tried the chicken karaage and chicken itself was good but didn't love the green sauce but my husband did Interior is so cute with the cherry blossoms They have some outdoor seating but can be busy crosswalk and traffic area Although they are dog friendly in the outdoor seating
This sushi spot on SoCo is a gem! They have some fun fusion offerings including the Yuca-Tekkan, a maki roll with pepitas and recado negro. I appreciated that they had plenty of seafood and vegetarian offerings. My favorite dish was the spinach and shittake dumplings with cashews and a cashew cream. They were so delicious, I was scraping the cream off the plate! Our server Josh was top notch and knew his stuff well. The restaurant also has beautiful decor; I loved the cherry blossoms!
This place is it! Came here because my sister in law wanted to try it out and I'm glad she did! But be prepared to have your wallet be set backkkkkk lol- don't say I didn't warn you! Ambiance is really nice here especially for a date night type of place. I have 3 kids- so that's not always the best option. But the lighting is nice and dim! We found parking right along the curbside in front of the restaurant fairly easy before the dinner rush crowd showed up. Wagyu hot rock, is the way to go! My girls 7 & 4, (6&3) at the time of our visit loved it- so flavorful with just a pinch of salt, but it's definitely melt in your mouth delicious! My kids are picky and they even loved the chicken karaage & pork belly bao buns. Everything was just so tasty- go and check out the happy hour menu to save you some coin! Even my yuzu spritzer was nice and refreshing!
Really love this cute Japanese restaurant. I love how you can see the fish drying in the refrigerator when you meet with the host. The food was amazing. I wasn't a big fan of the tonkatsu ramen, but the chicken ramen was rich with flavor. The appetizers were great. I love the sauces that come with them especially the chicken katsu. Our server was kind and friendly. Definitely check this place out if you're nearby.
I have eaten here a couple of times and it was fantastic!! The dry aged tuna melts in your mouth like butter! They offer seating outside as well. It's not very large so sometimes there is a wait. Service was great..our server was able to suggest a few things for us during the initial visit. Because they offer higher end, dry aged sushi, it is more expensive than your regular sushi spot. I think it's well worth the extra coins though! There's a cute ice cream stand nearby if you want a cool dessert after.
Came here during restaurant week and loved it! So much food and so much variety for such a good price! They had a prefix menu so it took all the guess work out for me and my friend, kinda like an omakase or chefs choice experience! My favorite was the yellow tail, so fresh and so flavorful! We sat outside on congress which was nice because the weather is just getting good and it was still light and lively out. Also our waitress was so sweet to us and gave great drink recommendations!
It's wooden, with pink neon on the shelving above the sushi bar, populated with figurines. Lucky Robot claims to serve sushi here. They also have ramen; maybe I should have tried my luck with that instead. Started with the Purple Peruvian drink, which was really quite nice. Actually, it was the highlight of the entire meal, so props to who ever made it. I felt lazy about going through every item on the menu, so I decided to order their "omakase." Huge mistake. Theirs is not a set menu, nor does it seem to be customized to customer's taste. Rather, it is a budget, which is filled using items from the menu until the desired price point is achieved. Before ordering, I specifically asked the waiter how the three different price points for their omakase work. I inquired how many pieces each one comes with. He provided an unsatisfactory "I don't know" and then proceeded to mention the more expensive ones had more courses (and gave a range of 10-13). He claimed to push people towards ordering the middle priced one, but did not provide an explanation for why. My expectation was a certain quantity of nigiri if ordering their "omakase." However, the waiter failed to clarify exactly what their "omakase" consists of, other than "the kitchen decides" (well, duh) and "it'll be a surprise." Withholding clarifying information about a menu option is a negative. We weren't too hungry, so we opted for the the lowest priced version. In response, he mumbled "this one would be 8 courses." Again, not forthcoming with information which he could have provided in response to my first question. After ordering, he asked "is there anything you won't eat?" Of course the answer is no. But looking back, I should have specifically mentioned "no artificial crab" or "no shoddy food." Lastly, he quipped, "and is sashimi ok?" To which I responded I prefer nigiri, to which he said "ok"--yet another missed opportunity to clarify that nigiri is a teeny-weeny part of their "omakase." As for the shoddy omakase: Brussel Sprouts ($12)--over-roasted to remove the nuttiness, and then doused in tamari. I've rarely had well-prepared brussel sprouts at restaurants, and Lucky Robot is no exception. Disappointing start. Sakura Masu ($24)--a shoddy crude containing ocean trout, blood orange, fennel, pomegranate, and cilantro. Masked the light trout flavor. Sourness was extremely minute. Nothing in this dish went well together, since everything tasted like flavorless blood orange (even the fish); and not even sweet. Their fennel slivers were not bright and refreshing; on the contrary, they seemed pickled, sad, and depressing. Hira Hira ($16)--poorly executed maki containing yellowtail, avocado, green onion, crispy shallot, yuzu miso, lemongrass soy, sesame. Excessive 3:1 rice to filling ratio. Tasted like creamy avocado. Cilantro did nothing, and a yellowed cilantro leaf was purposely selected. You can tell the kitchen does not even care to utilize green herbs. "Prime" Nigiri Moriawase ($37x2)--dry-aged fish. 5 out of 8 fish on daily fish menu. You can see the fish hanging on display. Better than the maki, but, it was not very flavorful, despite their dry aging process. The garnishes did not promote the fishes. The bitter toasted sesame seeds were unhelpful (and shouldn't be bitter!). These were fairly sad, disappointing bites, especially if you know what well-executed nigiri with quality ingredients tastes like. Hiramasa Shrimp Battle ($24)--much better maki roll than the Hira Hira, as the rice to filling ratio was closer to 1:1. Crunchy bits add texture; the serrano slice on top adds a slight heat to the bite. Enjoyable. "Pork Belly" and "Wagyu Short Rib" Nigiri ($26)--pork belly: dry and chewy. Wagyu: it's a precooked slab that they store with their fish (since we see it at sitting at the sushi bar); when it's prepared, they cut some slices and toss it in the oven to warm up. Pity for folks consuming either of these two items, including myself. Strawberry Basil Ice Cream ($9) -- they stated this was a semifreddo; it was fairly sweet. It had "compressed" strawberries, and crushed pistachios. Texture wise, this was fine. I recommend going to Gelato Paradiso (across the street) afterwards for dessert instead of here. Conclusion: only the Peruvian drink and Hiramasa Shrimp Battle were enjoyable. 2 out of 9 items, or $32 out of $193--an abysmal 0.22 or 0.16 enjoyment rate, depending on the metric. An incredibly poor value. There is no reason to return to this establishment in the future; plenty of other sushi restaurants in Austin take pride in serving non-shoddy food to their customers. Finally, do you really want to eat at a place that roasts their sesame seeds bitter, overcooks their pork belly until dry and chewy, uses an inappropriate ratio of rice to filling in their maki, voluntarily places yellowing cilantro leaves on your food, cannot execute a reasonable crudo, and provides you with a disappointingly low quality sushi experience?
Great service from Brady who offered us dessert as we're newly engaged but we're too full so he said next time. Didn't feel rushed at all. Apps were great with chicken karaage and pork dumplings. The sauces alone were full of so much flavor. Sushi the sea 3PO Voltron and r2d2 were all great with their respective sauces. Good portions all the way through. We will go again.
Finally tried out Lucky Robot on Soco. The decor is super loud and extravagant but it kinda worked for me. I loved the violent cherry blossom vibe. On to the food, I got the chirashi bot and at $28 for fresh sashimi, it was really good. The fish tasted clean and refreshing and the soft poached egg on the rice with caviar added a nice umami depth to every bite. I very much enjoyed this brunch and would come back to try their other bites.
We went here during Austin restaurant week because we wanted to try their prix fixe menu which allowed us to try a lot of different items from their normal menu. I was really impressed by the service and the ambiance. Everyone who worked here was extremely welcoming and communicative. The interior decor here is super unique and the flowers on the ceiling were a vibe. The cocktails were also phenomenal. However, the food menu was super hit or miss. We really enjoyed the katsu and the shrimp elote. However, the sushi was just not good, especially for the price point.. which the exception of the king salmon! Everything with the salmon was super fresh and buttery. We struggled with the other nigiri because they just seemed really fishy and a little off. The scallop was ok, but there were a lot of conflicting flavors in there. We aren't sure if they were going for more Asian or Italian flavors because the yuzu, basil, and tomato combination was a little confusing. The presentation of everything was well done. And dessert was good! We preferred the yuzu pie over the Tokyo banana. So long story short, this restaurant has a lot of promise. They have a fantastic waiting staff and ambience. But they are trying to do too many flavors and types of food at once which might detract from their menu. We will definitely be back for their non-sushi menu! read more

Dropped by for a chill happy hour and it was easy to get a table. Our server Kendra was great and explained the vegetarian options to us. We got the zucchini bites (huge portion) and farmbot (8 pieces of deliciousness). It was light meal but exactly what we needed. The zucchini was soft and the panko crust was spicy crispy perfection, didn't taste too friend at all. The roll we got was packed with flavor, wish I could make veggies taste this good! The ambience inside was just as nice as everyone says though we did thankfully get seated on the side away from the fish. The prices were decent and I'd come back for a cute date, though I wish they had a few more vegetarian options. read more

I cannot recommend this place enough for a beautiful dating spot with incredible food. I highly recommend the Toro and Fig, but honestly, all the items on the menu are worth their spot. So much care went into the flavors curated on every dish. Most importantly, my time was special because of our server, Ian. He was the absolute best, and I know he brightens everyone he serves on his tables. The restaurant even signed a card for me and my girlfriend as we were celebrating our anniversary here! I will definitely be coming back, and you should give it a try. read more

A Japanese restaurant with a Peruvian twist. The decor is beautiful and picture-worthy. The food is high quality, though slightly overpriced. I'd recommend Lucky Robot for a nice date night or a celebratory meal. We started with the suzuki ceviche, which consisted of striped bass, guava ponzu, achiote, sliced serrano, and plantain chips. It's a small dish, but the flavors are perfect. Next, we tried the hira hira roll - yellowtail, avocado, green onion, crispy shallot, yuzu miso, lemongrass soy, and cilantro. This one was disappointing and was missing flavor. We finished with sake nigiri and sake toro nigiri. The salmon was amazing; so fresh, so soft, almost like butter. The sake nigiri was less expensive but just as good as the sake toro nigiri, so I'd recommend sticking with sake nigiri. read more
Restaurant is located on very prime main road. So parking is kinda limited but they did have a small lot in the back. We chose this spot because the decor was really nice and very retro cool hip vibes. Service was good and friendly. Food wise, everything was decent/good. Nothing amazed us enough - but maybe because we are from an area where sushi is a bit more prime, that we had higher standards? Some of the nigiri that came out had a fishy taste, texture wasn't the best, and didn't feel worth the price compared to others we've had. Nonetheless it eas still a nice dinner. Plz note - if you do a reservation, there will be a minimum spend per person ($75) before gratuity and fees. read more

Every single thing was amazing! To start, we got the Brussel sprouts (yummy but not unique to this place), chicken karaage (fried chicken masterpiece) , and the crispy barbacoa dumplings (TO DIE FOR!). All of the appetizers had delicious sauces that we literally scraped with our fork to each after because they were addicting. We ordered the Hiramasa Shrimp Battle, Spider, and Dill-e (my personal favorite) as rolls. Definitely shareable sized rolls. I also got a piece of the Maguro nigiri and was absolutely amazed. This place is so cute and totally gives the vibes of Japan with the cherry blossoms and decor. Great service as well: the waiter was giving us suggestions and helped us pick the best things while also telling us what not to get. LOVE IT! I went here for dinner with a friend and had the best time. We sat right by the chefs for an omakase experience and it was absolutely delightful. The food kept coming, the fish was fresh, every meal was tasty and there was obviously a lot of thought and creativity put into the meals and presentation. Service was good and the restaurant was dark but it fit the mood. I would go back in a heartbeat. read more
Lucky Robot is a delicious sushi spot on South Congress. Pretty busy spot on a Saturday night but the patio was open which was great to people watch. Bradley is a knowledgeable server. I really did want to give this place 5 stars but it fell short of my expectations. Service was A1 though. The ambience of the place from interior decor to the lights is a vibe. We made reservations to sit at the bar and what we felt was missing was the customer interaction. I even heard the workers making fun of how customers were pronouncing words,etc. The restaurant was partaking in the Restaurant week, donating a portion of their proceeds to the Food Bank so we wanted to definitely try items from that curated menu. The pork katsu was probably the most memorable thing on the list. It was cooked perfectly in a nice light curry sauce with grilled vegetables. The 5 nigiri piece chefs pick was just okay, the flavor of the rice was overpowering the fish. The Tokyo Banana dessert was disappointing, it had a weird texture. Their crispy barbacoa dumplings was pretty tasty. It paired nicely with the mango chipotle sauce. We also ordered the crunchy atomic salmon roll that was pretty basic but solid as well. The quality of the rolls/sashimi here is comparable to other sushi spots but I wouldn't come here if you are looking for top quality sushi. I would recommend going to other upscale Austin known restaurants. read more
I love the happy hour at Lucky Robot because you can get a great deal on several dishes including the beef hot rock and pork belly. The rolls are a must as this is the only place that can even come close to Uchi in the roll department, my favorite being the spider soft shell crab roll and hira hira yellow tail roll. The rolls just hit the spot. Tried several new seasonal entrees including waygu and crispy pork belly. Also finished the meal strong with the yuzu pie. They also had an enjoyable cocktail midnight in Tokyo. This place is a great pick for consistent good service and food. Never disappoints. read more

First off this was a wonderful, vibrant and fun vibe. Right when you first walk in you become a part of blossom season and a (I've never seen at a sushi place) dry age fish locker to gaze at what will soon be plated. The Wagyu two bites that I had were some of the best bites that I had my entire trip in Texas. And they made my daughter's birthday so special since this is where she wanted to go and have good sushi. The inside is an absolute delight. The staff was absolutely wonderful. All the food was precise clean and delicious. Exactly what you want out of a sushi and Ramen place. read more
My wife and I had date night here about a month ago! Service was great. Very small and intimate location. The inside was decorated very eclectic and fun! The food we chose was great! I am one who has always been averse to Sushi. You all opened my eyes. I was so impressed with the food. I am no fan of avocado, yet the Spider roll and the Hira Hira were a hit with me. Our server, Kendra, was fantastic and was very helpful when we were making our choices. Loved the decor of the restaurant and the choice of music. This was my first time here. Will definitely be back. I recommended Lucky Robot to my co-workers as well. read more

Got seated pretty quickly by the hostess, who oddly didn't acknowledge our party of 2 at the door until we greeted her. We got sat at a table just barely big enough for apps and two drinks. I asked for a bag hook, as I had a large handbag - they didn't have any. (What type of restaurant doesn't have a bag hook/stool these days?) Kept the order light, with happy hour plates.... Edamame - steamed Costco-esque soybeans WAY too much salt. Brussels sprouts - nothing to write home about. Okay at best. Pork Kakuni - dry pork, basic one note flavor. Saving grace was the plantain in the dish. Now, the absolute star of the show was, by far, the Yuzu Pie. If you were going to order anything at this place - it's the pie. If you're looking for authentic sushi, this is definitely not the spot. If you are looking for delicate photo worthy bites, this is the place. Walking in I was greeted by really friendly staff and a lot of pink. The cherry blossoms hanging from the ceiling and the disco balls and the upside down Christmas trees were a lot to take in, but I love how festive it all was. The staff in general were really pleasant all night. Personally I was really blown away by the warm towels that grew when warm water was poured on it. It was very cleansing to get to refresh my hands like that. We went for happy hour, and tried the Tuna tataki and the king sakura. The tuna was so fresh it tasted like raw beef. The add ons to the tuna elevated the flavor. The king sakura was a lot going on, eating the salmon with the cherry blossom leaf and all the other things in my opinion lost the entity of sashimi. I also tried the Spider Roll. The roll was beautiful to look at but I didn't feel like I was eating sushi at all. The crab got lost in the apple and other stuff, not really sushi to me. I also came to celebrate a birthday and we were tried with free dessert. We got the yuzu cake. That was a beautiful and hearty cake with tons of depth and textures. The creamy custard balanced out the crunchy pecans and blueberries and the meringue on the side was delightful. While overall the food was good this place didn't really satisfy my sushi craving. read more

A little overpriced but a solid sushi place with super sweet waiters. Our food came out so fast too! The decor inside is fun and playful, but stylish. Feels like a spot that fits the vibe of Congress. We got edamame, the yellow tail crudo, crispy barbacoa dumplings, chicken karaage, the crunchy atomic salmon roll, and the hiramasa shrimp battle roll. We also got their sour mezcal cocktail. Would def recommend the cocktail as it was well balanced. The flavor of lemon isn't particularly strong, in case you're wondering. The yellow tail crudo was good, and light in terms of flavor. I'm glad the jalapeños actually had a bit of kick to them otherwise the crudo would have been a touch boring. It was hard to really taste the coconut water imo. The crispy barbacoa dumplings were good, but I wouldn't say the barbacoa had classic barbacoa flavor. Loved the sauce that came with the dumplings - it had good kick to it. The chicken karaage was delicious. It wasn't as crispy as expected because they toss the chicken in sauce. The sauce was a touch sweet. I am not sure where the panko was in our salmon roll or why it was considered crunchy. I ended up liking the hiramasa shrimp battle roll much more than the crunchy salmon roll even though I don't typically like tempura in my rolls. Looking forward to coming back! read more
What can I say about LR that hasn't been said already? The ambience is a vibe, the food is amazing and the service was also top tier. I truly enjoyed the experience. Advice if you're planning on going: MAKE a reservation in open table. It's a very popular spot and it gets BUSY. I made reservations late and ended up having a 4:45pm dinner on a Saturday night lol. The prices are high for the portion sizes but the quality and service make up for it. I was confused by one thing though. I thought I saw something on open table that said LR was one of those restaurants where you can see your tab in real time as you order/while you dine, I didn't see that unless I wasn't looking in the right place. Overall, the experience was great and I'd gladly visit again. read more
We came in for dinner during happy hour on a Thursday, I recommend making a reservation. The menu is so unique and every dish is expertly flavored and plated. Cute and comfortable ambiance, and right on SOCO so lots of busy people walking in front of the restaurant. Service always very helpful and knowledgeable about the ingredients so overall great experience! I came here with my mom since I ate here a while back but couldn't remember what I'd had. We both got ramen (I got the robot ramen -$18 and my mom got the vegan ramen -$15) as well as the bees knees drink ($16, it was sweet but just the right amount of sweet and flavored with lavender which I LOVE). I was particularly happy with the service, our server's name was Liam and it was actually his last day of training but he was wonderful! And the ambiance of this place is just as I remembered - quaint and cozy but upscale and very cute. Would be great for a date spot - I'm planning to come back later with my partner to try the sushi! read more

Good wasn't bad! Although not really authentic ramen, but good for what it was and the day we went was pretty busy so service was a bit harder to catch while seated outside with a constant flow of walkers on the side walk. Still enjoyed it though. read more

This place is a must if you like sushi and ramen. The atmosphere and decor is Austin chic. The service was amazing and very helpful with providing suggestions geared to your taste. The Wagyu fried rice, Crispy Barbacoa dumplings and Atomic Salmon Maki Roll were delicious. You definitely need to stop by and try it yourself!! read more

I'm pretty sure I've been here a couple of years ago but I can't seem to find my review. I guess I will have to leave a new one. Came here for a first date and it was a lot pricier than $$. I would say it's more like $$$ or $$$$. Parking was nonexistent but luckily I found a spot in the back alley/street. Their menu was pretty small and missing some essential sushi item I was expecting like dragon roll. We ended up ordering mainly off the servers suggestions. The presentation was really pretty and portions very small. I went home and ate some more after the date. I can't complain about the food itself cause it was good but I was still hungry. I would say this is a good place to impress someone for a date but not somewhere you go to get full. read more

Took my 13 year old daughter, who has an adventurous palate, and she loved it. It wasn't overwhelming and our server (Willow) was excellent. My daughter loved the wild boar ramen and the dumplings were fantastic! read more

Is there a gluten free menu?
I don't think there is an actual gluten-free menu, but their servers are very knowledgeable, and they are happy to accommodate any dietary restrictions. There is a lot more than just gluten that I can't eat, and I do great here.
Do they use heat lamps on the patio in the winter?
We do! Look forward to seeing you
Do they still have the BYOB (build your own bowl), I think that's what it's called.?
Nope! Lots of changes to the menu and this wasn't on there as of 6/22/21
Are there any recommendations on parking besides street parking?
There is a large, mostly vacant parking lot located behind Hotel Saint Cecelia that is about a 5 minute walk from the restaurant.
