We did take out and ordered 4 different rolls and an avocado bomb. All 5 dishes had imitation crab in them. The Cali roll should be salmon and avocado on inside. The rainbow roll I can't recall but pretty sure not imitation crab either. Also they put 3 rolls in one take out which is fine, but almost all had the crunchy stuff on them. We only ordered 1 crunchy roll, very sloppy work. Prob won't be coming back. To owner: it was the fact that all 4 rolls had the crab in them (imitation crab). We came here last night for dinner and very much enjoyed it. We arrived around 635 without a reservation and got seated immediately, which was nice. The food was delicious! Five stars for the edamame as an appetizer, along with the dragon sushi roll. My fiancés bibimbap also was on point. I tried to give places the benefit of the doubt. So we gave this restaurant three tries. The thing that stuck out to me was that they always get the order wrong we tried dine in. We tried pick up every single time. The order was wrong. The crab mix that they use inside of their sushi is gross and I specifically requested to use kani sticks instead. They never once did it. And so I was forced to eat the gross crab mix that they make in a house. It reminds me of the grocery store sushi that you buy at H-E-B. On several occasions we ordered something and it either wasn't included in the to go or they never brought it at all and had to be reminded several times. The soda machine must be forever broken because I have never gotten a soda that was not completely flat and warm. The fish they use for the sushi is subgrade and the rolls are made in a way that I could only describe as sloppy and they are always warm which to me is not appetizing for sushi. Overall, it's unfortunate because this spot is right down the street from our house and driving all the way downtown to get good sushi isn't always easy. As a vegetarian who used to love sushi, I really appreciate this place. First, it is bright, clean, and spacious. The servers are super nice and stay on top of refilling your water cups. They're quick, there was a time I didn't even notice they had refilled my drink. I ordered all the vegetarian rolls, of which there are 3. These rolls are bigger than the standard sushi roll you can order. This is great because with less protein the veggie options tend to be less filling so you order more. Every roll was delicious. No, they were DELICIOUS. The Vegetable Tempura Roll was crispy and tasty. My dining companion said it was her favorite. I let her eat several of them because I could not eat all of this on my own. The Green Land Roll was light and refreshing, but again so many giant pieces made it pretty filling. The Vegetarian Roll was wrapped in cucumber and was a snappy delight. I think about these rolls often and am excited to come back for more Green Land and to try something else. read more

I also had a miso soup that was really good. My entree was the teriyaki steak and rice which was also delicious and lastly I had an order of tai sashimi and to my delight they had gochujang sauce that made it extremely good. The decor at Yanagi is pleasant enough, but it has a strip-mall feel and certainly doesn't match the superior level of the food served there. That said, the less-than-stellar decor may be what allows them to provide a wide variety of very good Japanese food at more-than-reasonable prices. I've eaten here many times, and my favorite appetizers are the Spicy Edamame (steamed edamame dressed with toasted, chopped garlic in a spicey sauce), Tuna (or Salmon) Tower, Tempura, and Agedashi Tofu (fried tofu with tempura sauce). I could honestly make a meal out of the appetizers! I usually share several appetizers and rolls with friends and leave full and happy. Yanagi does a brisk take out business and, if it's still available (couldn't locate it online), their lunch specials are unbelievable! Well, the Lady and I slept in today and didn't feel like cooking (again). As both of us have lived and worked in Korea, we like Bulgogi and ordered some delivery for just that. Also added a few dumplings. The food came quickly and was hot (sorry, no pictures as we were starving). It was good and not as I would get at a street vendor in Korea. However it fits in pretty good for USA. If you're not into hard core Korean style and Japanese fusion it is a good fit. Is it my favorite Korean place? No, a little hole in the wall in Korea is my favorite place. But the cost to get there far outweighs convenience. I stopped by Yanagi on a week day around 1-2 pm for lunch during my recent trip to Austin because it was close to the place I was staying at. Our server was super nice, and the service was very fast. We ordered the baked dynamite roll, bulgogi bento, salmon teriyaki bento. My favorite was definitely the bulgogi, and the shrimp tempura that we ordered with the bento were so fluffy and perfectly cooked. The dishes were a bit on the sweeter side, which I really liked, and everything tasted amazing and flavorful. We've been here several times and never experienced a problem. Met my husband here for lunch on Monday February 16th. HOWEVER!!!! When we arrived at 2:00 p.m. for lunch, we were greeted at the front by an older man, approximately in his late 30s maybe? Right away he set ​a negative tone. As my husband went to the bathroom to wash his hands, this waiter led me to a table , all the while looking back over his left shoulder to tell me that we needed to hurry, he was going to seat us anyway even though they were about to close. The restaurant had about five tables seated. As I sat down he handed me the menu and again repeated that they were going to close and I needed to hurry. I told him I wanted to wait for my husband, he proceeded to pour out his grievances about how he worked something like 11 hours, had not eaten yet, and they needed to close so that they could cook and clean in preparation for the dinner hours. That is not my problem! If you don't like the long hours and the work , then find another job! . When my husband sat down, the waiter hovered over both of us to order quickly . I ordered a lunch bento, and my husband feeling rushed, I could clearly see it in his face he was upset, just quickly ordered the same thing that I had. The waiter literally snatched the menus in a hurry from his hand and within about maybe 5 minutes or so ? We received our meal. I had to ask the waiter to please bring us drinks, he didn't even ask us that when we were originally ordering he was in such a hurry. We started to eat the food which by the way is delicious, however from afar he kept eyeballing me as if to say hurry up. I heard him go to two other tables and explain his situation again, asking them to please settle the bill, hurry hurry hurry they are about to close. I could see in everyone's faces that they were not happy. As we were eating, I don't even think another 10 minutes went by when he returned and asked if we needed anything else. I asked for a refill on my drink and he actually told me no! As he walks away, he tells me over his shoulder I'll bring you a to go glass because you need to take it with you, we're closing . When he returned he brought me some takeout containers which I did not even ask for . He brought the bill as well and pushed it towards me . I decided at that point, I was just going to take my time my husband and I were both visibly upset and I could feel the food stuck in my throat . He came back about 5 minutes later, assuming I had already paid which I did not because I was still eating . I hadn't even completed my meal when he kept stating that we needed to hurry. I asked him to give us a chance to eat. That we had just arrived. He told me that we should have known - can you believe it arguing with the customer? That they were going to close at 2:30 and now he needs to get everyone out. Again repeating they're going to close and they need to eat too . I told him look, if you didn't want anybody lingering past 2 pm, you should have locked the doors ! He told me again, WE should have known!--the arrogance. Needless to say, neither of us finished . We were so uncomfortable and angry by this point . I went ahead and paid , and I did not leave him a tip. I couldn't even look him in the eyes when we left and he told us thank you for coming in have a nice day as if nothing had happened . This is bad for business, and I know this for a fact because I can safely say they've lost most likely the ​​​​​ business of everyone who he kicked out . We were talking about it in the parking lot .
