Luann's is a bakery that is obviously well loved in the Ellington area. They have (1) a primary bakery, coffee, cafe location; (2) a presence at the Ellington Farmers Market, and (3) at least one express location affiliated with a grocery store in the area. Stylistically, I'd call Luann's an elegant country bakery with a focus on cupcakes. Their pickle cupcake has some fame in CT and I think Big E circles. I tried it after my recent visit. I thought it worked. Sweet, but not to sweet. A bit of dill. Fresh texture. I even ate the pickle on top, which was probably not my favorite part. LOL. I wouldn't order it again, but you shouldn't be worried about trying it. I also had a black iced coffee, which was pretty good. Inspirational message written on top. Nice touch. I wasn't expecting to see Luann's again at the Farmer Market, but I actually got bread stuffed with an egg there. The egg was cooked a bit more than I like, but it was decent. The primary bakery cafe was charming and service was friendly. I'd say Luann's is must visit if you're in the Ellington area. 4.25 Stars

I wish they were closer to where I live but I always make a point of stopping here when I'm in the area. A wide variety of breakfast and lunch options and lots of gluten free options too! Be sure to check out their socials for updates on specials. When we visited they had a decades theme going in and we grabbed these fun cupcakes.

I had heard some really good things about LuAnn's, and they were on point....did not disappoint. Stopped in today, and was impressed by the cleanliness, all of the displays, the cozy / inviting dining area, and (especially) my choice of pastry. I had a pumpkin cream cheese roll. It was gooeyness personified, and hit all the right notes. Embarrassed to write, I practically inhaled it. I understand they have a booth at the BigE, where one of their specialties is a fried pickle cupcake. For me, the Nellie McKnight is something that's on my radar for the next visit. Ample parking, good service, highly recommend. 5 gooey stars

New to The Big E this year LuAnn's Bakery hits the ground running with their absolutely delicious cupcakes. They are so moist and full of flavor. All the workers at the booth were very friendly and quick to deliver our cupcakes. Easily one of my top favorites at the fair this year! We came back and chatted with them since I noticed it said Ellington, CT. Come to find out they have 2 locations very close to where we skydive, will definitely visit when I'm in the area!

Nice quaint Bakery and Cafe nestled in Ellington Ct. We went specifically for the Andes Mint Latte (hot) . The recommended Latte was all the hype. Friendly staff and very organized. I will definitely go back again and this time have lunch.

Their salads, sandwiches and soups are great. They make the best chocolate cookies. Other baked goods are awesome too. I love their coffees! Everyone here is so nice! The cafe is quaint and cute! They also have a drive thru location a couple miles down the road for grab and go. Definitely go grab a coffee and cookies!

The best way to describe this place is cute and cozy. Lots of baked goods, small breakfast items, and great coffee choices. Relaxing atmosphere and great, friendly service. It's not often I'm in this area but I would definitely go back again!

This place is a hidden gem. Everything I had from hee was really good. I took out a couple of lunch items. MariAna on Wecka was my favorite. Chicken fiesta wrap was also really good. Soup of the day was cheesy chicken enchillada soup. Hot pistachio white mocha latte was a good choice for coffee. I went for a small triple berry crumble pie from their bakery. That was an excellent choice. I finished it in a single sitting. I also took out barbeque cheddar meatloaf bake from their frozen section. It baked out to be a really nice entree.

I've had Luann's bookmarked forever and I finally made it. All of the sweets looked amazing and the place is very charming. People were starting to order lunch plates and everything that came out looked great. My bread and cupcake were delicious. My reason for 3 stars instead of 4 is service. The cashier who waited on us was not there in spirit. It took a very long time to get a cup a coffee. Then a very long time to get the cream and sugar. A very long time to get a stirrer. A very long time to get a napkin. It just turned out to be a more frustrating visit than I had hoped for. If in the area I would return and perhaps get everything to go.

"I walked in, the baker said everything was sold I found out…read moreshe saved me some sweet jelly roll Yes, the baker shop boogie" (Willie Nix) Since we're friends, let me ask you a personal question--so tell me this: what's your official dessert policy? Are you a "dessert is a human right" kind of person who enjoys something sweet every night after dinner? Do you ceremoniously pair your evening coffee with a treat like it's a sacred ritual? Or are you more of a free range snacker who grazes on cookies and pastries whenever the mood strikes? At our place, we've somehow drifted into the habit of having a bakery item most nights. Could be a cookie. Could be a pastry. Could be a slice of something. All this brings me to yesterday's visit to the Hartford Baking Company in South Windsor, where we are now pretty well stocked for a week's worth of upcoming desserts, and maybe a breakfast or two. They have four locations in the Greater Hartford area, all selling the same amazing product line of bread, ciabatta, and rolls. But for the sweet tooth fiends out there, well get psyched for their scones, muffins, Walnut Coffee Cake, Financiers (a French almond cookie), brownies and bars, cookies, biscotti, shortbreads, Danish, Cinnamon buns, Pecan-Walnut Sticky Buns, Brioche Pastries, fruit tarts, and quiches. We were running errands in South Windsor yesterday, popped into Hartford Baking, and walked out with a bounty of wonderful looking goodies- brownies, a croissant, a chocolate banana muffin, a rectangular Financier, and a slice of coffee cake. We should be set for a while in the dessert department. I had the Financier last night, and never having heard of the word before, I consulted the old Google machine for some research and found a very cool origin-story. In the late 1800's there was a pastry shop located near the Paris Stock Exchange. The shop sold very popular small almond cakes that were baked in small rectangular molds resembling gold bars. They were a hit with the busy bankers who frequented his shop. The name "financier" stuck because of both the clientele and the gold bar shape. I have to tell ya, that Financier was amazing. It was dense and delicious and overflowing with almond flavor. I loved it. I also had a teense of the Banana Muffin this morning, and it was excellent as well. Loved that banana flavor and those chocolate chips. OK, so file away "Hartford Bakery" on your short list of "must visit" dessert destinations, because I assure you that you'll walk out a satisfied customer.

I had heard great things about this bakery and thought they would be perfect for my friend's baby…read moreshower, but my experience was incredibly disappointing from start to finish. Trying to place an order well in advance was a nightmare. On three separate occasions, I was given different excuses: "You don't need to place it this far in advance," "The person who takes orders isn't here," and "We'll have someone call you back." Unfortunately, no one ever followed up. I was eventually able to place my order just a few days before the shower. On the day of the event, I went to pick up the order, only to be told they didn't have it. After some back-and-forth, they admitted they had forgotten to put the order in. As a solution, they offered full-size cannolis instead of the mini ones I had ordered, at the same price. While the situation was frustrating, I accepted this as a reasonable compromise given the circumstances. However, when I arrived at the venue and opened the boxes, I discovered that the cannoli's they promised were missing. I immediately called to address the issue, but the staff was rude and unhelpful. The only resolution they offered was a small gift card, which did not make up for the inconvenience or the impact on the event. Overall, this was a very frustrating experience, and I cannot recommend this bakery based on their poor communication, lack of organization, and inadequate customer service.
