Absolutely the best, friendly owners/staff and incredibly delicious. My girlfriend and I live just up the road and tried them for the first time today, we both regret not having eaten their food sooner. perfectly balanced flavors. 10/10 very cute and clean cafe, cant wait to visit again! read more

I found this place on Yelp when I was craving Korean food and decided to give it a try with friends. It's run by a couple who take your order at the counter and then cook in the kitchen all by themselves, which was very wholesome. The menu is quite large but we all decided to go for some variation of the combo meal with choice of potato or kimchi fried rice, and fried chicken or bulgogi. The combos came with miso soup, which was undrinkably salty. However, the rest of the meal was pretty good and definitely satisfied the craving. We also got some kimbap which was absolutely delicious. The iced coffee was fantastic as well. The restaurant is very hard to find because it's hidden behind another building, but once you find it the ambiance is quite nice. read more

Food is phenomenal, and the owners are so so kind. A cute little spot in town for Asian food near Ellington, and it is all so yummy.

My coworkers and I had a great lunch here today. Their sushi is fresh and everyone was satisfied. Collectively we had beef ramen, veggie dumpling ramen and seafood ramen all spicy level. The broth was great, but I wish it was a tad spicier (may just be my preference as everyone else remarked how spicy it was). The ramen mine came with was a tad underdone but not a big deal. We also tried the edamame which was good, seaweed salad and sushi rolls. I had a simple spicy salmon which came with the spicy mayo. The fish was fresh and I can't complain. My coworker got the dynamite roll and really enjoyed it. I like the selection of lunch options. This is now in our rotation for work lunch places and I'm glad we chose it! Thanks 40 west! read more

They have great Korean food but their sushi gave me food poisoning :( I highly recommend this place for their food but steer clear of their raw fish... very fairly priced. read more

First timer. Mom and pop shop that serves very delicious food. Kimchee Ramen and Kimball both very good. Will be back

What a pleasant surprise to finally find Kimbap (and so much more) close enough to run out for pickup during weekday work lunch. The kimbap options are 50/50 vegetarian & meat/seafood with options for a variety of tastes and dietary requirements. Clean, friendly and quick service. Now I'm tempted to try everything on the menu as a weekly treat read more

I enjoy hole in the wall cafes like this Came here since the reviews were good and we wanted to try something new. Place is tucked away in a plaza with a big sign advertising lawyers and other specialists. Place looks like a small house, with a few seats inside. You order at the counter, menus are on full display and lots of options are available. The place is a mom and pop operation, with the lady making the helm while the guy does the cooking. The food is awesome, well done and cooked properly. For negatives, the potstickers were deef fried rather than pan fried. That and the Korean fried chicken wasn't tempura battered and seemed frozen. The flavors were solid and well done. The spicy Kani salad and the special roll had a good spice kick to them. The flavors were pronounced and not overwhelming. Everything was done well and tasted awesome. I will be back again, and if you're in the area this is a very valid option to choose read more

Went here for boba. Service was awful. They had one woman working and she took forever to make two boba teas. They had premade sushi and sandwiches in the fridge section. Ambiance is casual dining area where you get your food and can sit down. It's a weird location with apartment buildings which I find odd. Decent parking. I would not recommend or return. Boba was okay at best. read more

As a Korean, I am very picky with Korean foods. This place was good and had great flavors and most importantly, great quality. I had the privilege of having the BT Curry Rice and what I liked about this menu was tasting different proteins (pork katsu, shrimp tempuras, and a sausage). Curry had great flavor as well. I would give 5 stars but the location seems to be out of place. I wish this place was more known to others who live near Vernon area. Overall, very satisfied and will be back! read more

We are so lucky to have this hidden gem of a restaurant so close. I ordered the egg-kimchi pancake-so wonderful and the veg dumpling ramen and asked for a little spiciness. Husband had the seafood ramen - spicy, it was perfect. The wonderful couple who run the restaurant have created a casual ambiance in a small dining room. It is clean with pop/current music playing. We sat and had food and green tea brought to us. We try to make this our special monthly date night! read more

I had takeout from here and it was quite good! I had the salmon avocado roll and for $5, the rolls were the same size as special rolls! Great value! The only downside is that they did not have gluten free soy sauce available for takeout :( other than that, amazing!! read more

Still great food but the couple needs to be more outgoing and friendly. I think they could lighten up a bit. Respect the regulars who come all the time and be a bit more inviting and friendly. There was one time I ordered and the lady put in two orders of the soup which I didn't order but kept arguing with me about it. I said "I have come here 20 times and never order the Ramen". read more

What an excellent find. It's a small cafe with limited menu however what is offered is done very well. We arrived early so we were the only ones there. The owner was friendly and guide us as we explored the menu. We had the chicken ramen (option of mild or spicy; choose the spicy, of course) and beef loco moco and bubble tea (mango and coffee flavors). The ramen was big, rich broth, fresh vegetables, and right noodle consistency and overall balanced. My son enjoyed the loco moco and was obsessed with the sauce (gravy) and devoured the whole thing. The only somewhat complaint was that the mango bubble tea didn't taste of mango but more of vanilla. Other than that the whole experience was wonderful. This is a very small cafe, and a little hard to find. Parking is available in the back but there was a big sign to guide you. It is BYOB if you are coming for dinner. My son kept on mentioning that it was like you went to someone's house and had a great meal. Again, what a great find and will be returning to try on the rest of the menu. read more

I moved to Vernon 2 years ago and little did I know there was this gem hidden in the corner! The food brings me back to Hawaii along with a deli section. Absolutely delicious! I never thought I would find loco moco on the mainland, never mind in Eastern Connecticut! Everything my husband and I ordered was so good. I got the traditional beef loco moco, and my husband got the Boston curry with chicken. I enjoyed the loco moco so much, I forgot to give my husband a taste! We also got some sushi, which was also really good. We are definitely coming back to this place! read more

This place is really an interesting place to visit. It is a local place and the owner is very nice. There menu has many interesting things which you may not find in any other restaurants in CT. Loco Moco is an example. It is a Hawaiian food. Even in New York City it is difficult to find a Hawaiian place. I went for breakfast one day and ordered Curry rice with fried fish. That is not supposed to be a breakfast food. But the owner gracefully accepted to make it if I can wait for 15 minutes. It tasted a bit different. I think the flavors need to balance a little bit more. Fish was crisp. Rice with Curry somehow didn't seem to have hit the right spot. I will give them a shot with other interesting dishes. read more

Do not be deterred by the quiet, quaint atmosphere this place has. The food is reasonably priced, and doesn't skimp on size or flavor. It took me a while to try this spot out because the location seemed strange to me, but after going in for Ramen yesterday I'm going to become a quick regular here. The curry rice is perfect. Drenched in flavor, perfectly crispy meats are served alongside a perfectly cooked egg over easy that rests on top of fluffy rice, covered in yellow curry. The ginger sauce that comes as a palate cleanser over cabbage is not watered down, or muddy, as I've had at other places. I had the pleasure of trying the ramen as well. If you order spicy they're not kidding. It's not an overwhelming spice, but it builds. The noodles were slurpable, and the broth was warming. I had the beef, which is a simple roast beef presented neatly over the ramen, nestled among crisp beans, and your basic white mushrooms. It's not the Momofuku of NYC, but all ingredients were fresh, and I'm looking forward to trying their other varieties! A major plus-- FINALLY bubble tea in a slushie, milk style that doesn't hold back on the pearls, and is near me! They have a bunch of flavors. Ask about it! If the food doesn't woo you, which I don't know what about Hawaiian/Japanese comfort food wouldn't, the owners will. They are so friendly! As soon as you step in the door they're beaming with smiles, and so eager to please. For the value and flavor I get, this place is going to become a staple for quick lunches and a quiet place to relax. TL;DR: This place certainly has its niche in a town that struggles to strive consistency in quality, and taste, for a fantastic price. read more

Me and niece went here for the first time last week. The lady at the counter which I assume is either the owner or related to the owners was rude and made me feel like she couldn't be bothered when I asked her some questions about the ramen soups. I told her it was our first time and would love a suggestion which she didn't give. We both got the dumpling ramen and a couple of sodas. They bring the food to you after you order at counter. I thanked her after she took our order and she came me a hmmm. We went to sit, the ramen was good and I chalked up her rudeness to a one off. So today we go again, same rudeness, it was ridiculous. She was this way with other customers also. I got the seafood this time and it was absolutely disgusting. Little strips of what I'm sure was frozen octopus, squid, mussels and the tinies shrimp I've ever seen. The shrimps were even smaller then the ones in seafood salad. The "fishy" bad taste was gross and I barely ate. My niece shared her dumpling ramen with me. Upon going to counter to pay and ask about a boba tea, the same lady was exceptionally rude to my niece who is a kid and asked about a frappe instead of boba. At this time I said forget and just paid the bill and told her we are never coming back and it's not worth her attitude. She is like this with everyone I saw her interact with and explains why the place is empty a lot. Don't get the seafood ramen! read more

We visited 40 West Cafe for the first time today and we loved this little gem. We ordered a couple of curry dishes, one ramen, and one Loco Moco. They used Japanese curry so the taste was on the sweet side. The fried chick, pork and fish that came with the curry dishes were spot on. It's authentic Japanese fried food you would find in Asian. We were not impressed with the ramen with hot broth though. Maybe we should try regular broth instead of hot. The price is very reasonable for the quality of the food. It's a quiet little place within 5 min drive from our house. We will definitely come again. read more

I ordered a chicken curry, a beef ramen, and a roll for takeout and went over in 10 minutes. Let alone my food was ready timely, the owner of the place was very kind and nice. When I came home and tasted the food, I was so glad that I picked this place for lunch today. The chicken cutlet was especially mind-blowing, fish in the roll was very fresh, and ramen was very unique tasting! I will definitely come again! One tip: You may park your car in a sizable parking lot on the back side of the building. read more

There aren't many cafes like this around the area and it's certainly nice to stop by for a quick lunch. I have always been interested in Asian inspired cuisines and based the on menu itself, it satisfies all of my needs. It's rare to come across restaurants that serve Japanese curry, ramen, loco moco, Korean fried chicken, sushi and boba tea. The food seems freshly prepared and every item I've had has been very comforting and filling. The authenticity can be questioned but the I praised the owner for simply cooking proper, fulfilling meals. The variety on the menu can be challenging to execute each dish but their Japanese curry rice, the loco moco, and their Korean fried chicken have been good. The only way that I can describe it is that it feels as if a family member or home cook has prepared your food as opposed to a chef. It tastes delicious but the technical aspects of the dishes may be lacking. However, please stop by and try it out whenever you need a quick meal. read more

This place does not get enough attention for the food it serves! It is a bit of a hidden gem in my opinion. There was only one staff working there when I first visited and he was very friendly and helpful in explaining the details of each dish. You definitely get a bang for your buck at this joint. Another addition to the good cheap eats scene in Rockville. Hard working family seems to do everything here: cook, take orders, bus and wait tables. Goodcurried rice dishes, the Lipitor special known as loco moco (Hawaiian dish of burger patty over rice with gravy and fried egg) and basic sushi rolls are all tasty. If you are looking for a more unique reason to find 40 West Street it's the chicken or beef ramen. Perfectly cooked noodles, rich broth and fresh scallion and sprouts. Fish version had too many rubbery mollusks. Would have loved some decent sized pieces of shrimp or red snapper. I'd tried the iced coffee (fine) and the bubble tea (like sucking tapioca through a straw) which proved that not everything that is popular in one place will catch on in all Prices cheap; place is clean and neat. Worth giving it a try but the play is the Ramen... read more
