I'm back! The restaurant is located at 415 Hartford Tpke, Vernon, CT. It's been about four months since I was here. This is a family run, laid back place. The music is Classical Japanese. For our first drink. We are having a French Martini made with Grey Goose vodka, Chambord and a splash of pineapple juice. This taste great! They don't use garnishes here and I don't really care. It's well balanced! For our first item, we're having the House Salad. This is made with iceberg lettuce snd a little tomato. This ginger dressing is the best! I love this stuff! For out next item, we ate having an "Oki salad." A traditional Samurai Salad is a Japanese-inspired dish featuring grilled firm tofu, mixed greens, and a pungent ginger dressing. Key ingredients include firm tofu, soy sauce, white wine vinegar, grated fresh ginger, sesame seeds, green onions, and tomato slices. It is often garnished with toasted sesame seeds and served with a soy-ginger vinaigrette. Well, whatever it is! It's quite good! Wow! For our next item, we are having the miso soup. Miso soup is a traditional Japanese staple, combining savory, umami-rich miso paste with a dashi (fish or kelp) broth, typically featuring tofu, seaweed (wakame), and green onions. It is simple to make in under 20 minutes, offering a nutritious, comforting side dish known for aiding digestion, high protein, and mineral content. This is nice and hot! Huge bowl too! For our next item, we are having edamame. Edamame is an East Asian dish prepared with immature soybeans in their pods, which are boiled or steamed, and may be served with salt or other condiments. It is consumed in many world regions. Edamame is a common side dish in Chinese cuisine, Japanese cuisine and as an appetizer to alcoholic beverages, such as beer or shōchū. As an ingredient, edamame is used in both sweet and savory dishes, such as takikomi gohan, tempura, and zunda-mochi. These are steaming hot! Nice and salty too! Well, put comes the complementary Tuna Tataki. This thinly sliced seared tuna with ponzu sauce. This is fantastic! Wow! For our next item, we are having the Blackened Salmon which is sliced with ponzu sauce. This is spicy! Add soy sauce! This is great! For our next drink, we are having a Melon ball made with Midori vodka and orange juice. This is well balanced! No garnish as normal here! It tastes great! For our next item, we are having Ikura. Red caviar, also known as salmon roe or ikura caviar, is a popular seafood delicacy that comes from salmon and trout roe. It's known for its bright orange color, medium-sized eggs, and thin shells. Red caviar is a staple of Russian cuisine, often eaten during holidays like New Year's. It's high in omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins, and minerals, and is considered a good source of nutrition. Different types of salmon roe have unique tastes, colors, textures, and sizes. A "taste of the ocean." What's better than that! For our next item, I'm having the Spicy Eel and Shrimp Hand Roll. A hand roll (temaki) is a cone-shaped sushi item featuring seasoned sushi rice, fillings (sashimi-grade fish, seafood, vegetables), and a crisp, toasted nori sheet wrapper. Assembled by hand and eaten immediately by hand (without chopsticks), it offers a customizable, crunchy, and easier-to-make alternative to traditional maki sushi. These are good! Sushi snow cones! For our last drink, we are having the Caribbean Joy. This is made with Bacardi rum, pineapple and lemon juice. This is good! It's the rum version of the last drink! It's quite good! For our entree, we are having the Volcano Roll made with peppery salmon, gently fried, spicy tuna and red/hot sauce. Look at the presentation! OMG! For dessert, I have no idea what's coming out! Oh yeah! This is the bomb! OMG! The surprise of the night! Tempura ice cream! What better than this!!!! read more

We arrived around 4:30 on Friday afternoon and were the only ones in the restaurant which was understandable at that odd hour. Restaurant was chilly, but very clean. I took pics of shiny exhaust vents to show how clean ...plus 2 points!! They turned the heat on for us and it was appreciated. I had filet & chicken abd my wife had filet and lobster tail. The lobster tasted fishy abd the chicken a little dry and crispy around the edges. Everything else was excellent! Gilet was tender, rice and noodles piping hot and very good abd shrimp amazing! Great service - from being seated, to soup & salad coming right out to chef following soon after. Waiter was friendly and did his job. While they only give you 2 shrimp, it's nice that's it's included. I like they include noodles too as other hibachi places charge extra. Overall a very good meal and reasonable prices. Their steak hibachi meal is still $19.95 great value and hasn't gone up in price for years. read more

Their lunch bento boxes are a great deal. The food is normally good but a lot of inconsistency. They plate differently and use different ingredients depending on cooks I believe. I've ordered the Fuji mountain on several different occasions and it all came out different. I feel like if I like a dish the first time, all other times I order it, it should be created the same and played the same. Sushi is good here. Hibachi is a novelty at the hibachi tables. Fun for kids only if the cook is entertaining. Some days they are great at entertaining and sometimes they miss the mark completely. Service is hit or miss. Ambiance is decent. Small bar area. We show up a half hour later and our food is no where to be found. 4 other customers came and went with their food and we still just sat there waiting. I had thought about ordering an appetizer of a salmon roll, but I'm glad I didn't, because my entree, soup & salad was more than enough to eat. I've been to oki a few times, and overall I have always had a good experience with the food. They usually do a very good sushi roll and the staff is always plesant and helpful. Because of covid, some restaurants got hit harder than others. Oki is one of them, and they are managing but the distress shows. It's not dirty or mismanaged, you can tell that they are trying. As someone who has been to this location over the years, I can tell they are hanging on but just so. Despite this, they still put out a good product. Fish is fresh, rice is seasoned, rolls are plentiful. They are higher in price, and the location is not picturesque, but it's solid sushi for the area. read more

Another excellent meal at our go-to for sushi! The food here is so good. Hubby & I each ordered a spicy tuna roll (our fav) & I also got a Godzilla roll (spicy tuna, avocado). Hubby ordered General Tso's chicken dinner which includes soup & salad. Our waiter brought a bowl of soup for me as well a no charge. That way I wasn't sitting there drooling while watching the hubs eat. Less cleanup for them! Hehe This restaurant brings out freebies like this regularly. The General Tso's chicken has a thick sauce that is full of flavor, and the pieces of chicken remain crispy even when coated with the sauce. In all we had 2 bowls of soup, a bowl of salad, 2 regular sushi rolls along with a specialty roll, a full entree (with leftovers) & 2 sodas for less than $40. Okay this review's a tricky one for me. The whole vibe and ambiance of this place is meh. We came on a Friday night and it was quite empty. There were the groups of retirees and a small family with a crying child. Off the bat the crowd is not it for a Friday night. Next up was the cleanliness. The tables and menus were incredibly sticky and I just felt icky being there. The stools seems old and I just tried not to move while I was there. Being two people who didn't wanna cause a scene, we were trapped after they gave us our waters. We decided to give this place a shot and hope we don't get sick. We got the kani salad to start off and it was nothing special. I ordered the spicy shrimp and eel sushi as well as the summit roll while my boyfriend got the spicy girl roll and the philly roll. The sushi really surprised me.. I will say the type of rice and the amount that was used (A LOT) reminded me of store bought sushi.. so that was a disappointment. The taste however, was surprisingly decent. The shrimp and eel roll was SO soft that it basically melted in your mouth so I kinda liked that (could not really detect the eel) the summit roll was paced with spicy crab on top and I ended up taking most of that roll to go because it was pretty dense. Overall, sit-down experience was definitely a 0 for stars. If we didn't see and feel how sticky everything was, the food would've gotten a higher score but I have worries about cleanliness. If we were go to again, I would only do take out and not gamble with anything raw. read more

This overall experience was terrible. The food was served cold to us and some of it uncooked. The manager was rude and shoving food in our faces without saying excuse me before hand. We were constantly ignored when trying to get their attention and took 50 minutes after us done eating for them to even give us our check. Our waiter was really nice, he was funny actually. I'll remember him "for sure". His favorite phrase, I love it. Anyways, my Hibachi Chicken which came with the usual vegetables, fried rice and noodles were OKI, I have had better but the price was right from what I remember. Also came with a soup and salad, soup was lukewarm and the salad was as expected. As for sushi we tried the New York, Spicy Shrimp and Spicy Crab Rolls. First off, respect to offering Spicy Shrimp as I don't see this simple roll as often as I would imagine. But overall, it was as expected, nothing out of the ordinary which is good in it's own sense! I'm going to write an update. We come here every Christmas Eve for hibachi and always have a nice time. The food is consistently good and not outrageously priced. We love the combination of sushi and hibachi and it's become our annual tradition. The one experience wasn't great, but Oki has absolutely redeemed itself over time. Compliments to the chef he prepared a wonderful fresh assortment and display of sushi. The waiter was very helpful and so polite too. The exterior does not do much to dress up expectations. Upon entry you will notice the sticky floor, move into the dining and you are met with more stick dirty furniture and a smell that will not pass. The smell is something between stale beer, spilled drinks and dropped food that have been left to grow roots. By the look of this floor they do not even sweep. Everything was Oki-dokie! I rated 4 stars and my boyfriend rated 5 for an average of 4.5. First off, the food was delicious. Our sushi platter included 10 pieces of sushi and 4 special rolls, plus soup or salad. It was presented beautifully! The sushi was delicious and fresh, and the chef's choices of sushi complemented each other pretty well. The white tuna was my favorite. The portions are also super healthy. Each special roll had at least 8-10 pieces. We ended up with a full take-out box full of leftovers! The atmosphere was pretty good. I really appreciate that there are separate areas for sushi and hibachi. We sat on the quiet side of the restaurant, but could clearly hear the people on the hibachi side having fun. It made me want to come back to try the hibachi! The only thing that lost a star was the inconsistent service. The waiter wasn't outwardly rude, but made us feel like he did not want to be there. We had a Groupon for a sushi meal for two, so we made sure to ask the waiter what that includes. He told us we could choose any of the sushi platter options, but we ended up having to pay extra. He did not tell us that the Groupon only covered up to a certain price. We had no issue paying the extra amount, just would have appreciated a heads up. The way he went about it felt dishonest.
