I took out lunch from here. They were only doing take out. Food was better than most chinese places. Orange chicken was the best thing I had here. Kung pao chicken was ok.

A very pleasant surprise, its not often I rave about a restaurant's Hot and Sour Soup, but Wen Ming deserves a shout out as they serve a good one. It is full of a variety of Chinese dried fungus, bamboo shoots, lily buds and had the requisit amount of heat. I did request more vinegar to suit my taste but over all they make an excellent soup. The salmon bento box I ordered was presented beautifully and came with a california Roll, seaweed salad, gyzoa and white rice. The salmon was cooked nicely; served with a delightfully lite brown soy sauce concoction on a bed of stir fried onions; extremely tasty. The price point is slighty higher than average but is more than justified by the ingredients and flavor of the food served. The service was pleasant, efficient and the food arrived quickly, it was a great first time experience which will occasion another future visit.

Never had a bad meal yet. I love trying new plates from here.. I always order wonton soup, and spring rolls. So no matter what i do order is cooked fresh and to perfection. Has bar and sushi bar as well which the sushi was always fresh. Great lunch specials, also there is very tasty green tea icecream :) I also have to add I love the unique plates!!!!!

Looks like Wen Ming House II has raised the bar in the area by providing a unique dining experience in the town of Ellington. I've been anticipating the opening of this restaurant since the proprietors of the former restaurant closed their doors. The renovations have transformed the traditional dining area into a modern eatery with clean lines and open spaces. The fresh tasting menu is filled with options that will surely tantalize the most discriminating palette. The customer service is friendly and very, attentive and somewhat accommodating, I'm sure as time goes by they will relax the substitution restrictions a little to let their clientele customize their experience. The ingredients used in each dish are of a very high quality and assembled in very creative ways with portions that make anything ordered a great value. I always appreciate different levels of heat and spices and found them to be somewhat conservative in this area so if you really like it hot ask for a side of their chili oil I've found even after reassuring the server I wanted it extra hot it fell short. The wonton soup was special, egg rolls above average, orange crispy beef a little on the sweet side and really lacked the heat that should be used to offset the sweetness and finally the beef and broccoli is outstanding lean tender beef with fresh firm broccoli folded in a tame but flavorful brown sauce. I definitely will continue to enjoy dining here in the future...

Hunan Duck. Lots of duck and veggies (below the duck). Good value for the price - even though I didn't like the breading ($15.75)

My friends and I ordered delivery to Cold Creek Brewery around 8pm on Thursday. It came within 30 minutes or so and really hit the spot. I got the Four Seasons, which has pork, shrimp, beef, and chicken in a brown sauce. I was impressed with the quantity of both meat and veggies. The other dishes at our table were also very good, such as the green curry with shrimp and tofu with green beans. The Hunan Duck was the only odd one at the table, as the duck was covered in fried tempura; after taking off the breading, the dish was definitely better. At the same time, for a duck dish, they were very generous with the amount of duck they gave us for the price. One bummer - no utensils with our delivery! (Luckily, the guys at Cold Creek had some leftover utensils for us.) I don't usually include digital aspects to my reviews, but their website and menu were very, very hard to view on our mobile phones, almost to the point where we were going to give up ordering phone. I'm glad we didn't give up, but there's got to be a better way to display the menu on a mobile device.

The restaurant was clean as always with a nice ambiance. The servers were all so sweet and helpful. We ordered miso soup to start. It's a favorite that is consistently excellent. I ordered udon noodles with veggies and my friend ordered soba noodles with veggies. Both of us loved our meals! They were hot and delicious. For dessert we got the tempura cheesecake. Wow! Beautiful presentation and tasted creamy and not too sweet. The tempura was a bit challenging to cut with our spoons but it was worth the struggle. This is one of my favorite restaurants and I'm so happy to see that they are doing well!

I'm back! The restaurant is located at 415 Hartford Tpke, Vernon, CT. It's been about four months…read moresince I was here. This is a family run, laid back place. The music is Classical Japanese. For our first drink. We are having a French Martini made with Grey Goose vodka, Chambord and a splash of pineapple juice. This taste great! They don't use garnishes here and I don't really care. It's well balanced! For our first item, we're having the House Salad. This is made with iceberg lettuce snd a little tomato. This ginger dressing is the best! I love this stuff! For out next item, we ate having an "Oki salad." A traditional Samurai Salad is a Japanese-inspired dish featuring grilled firm tofu, mixed greens, and a pungent ginger dressing. Key ingredients include firm tofu, soy sauce, white wine vinegar, grated fresh ginger, sesame seeds, green onions, and tomato slices. It is often garnished with toasted sesame seeds and served with a soy-ginger vinaigrette. Well, whatever it is! It's quite good! Wow! For our next item, we are having the miso soup. Miso soup is a traditional Japanese staple, combining savory, umami-rich miso paste with a dashi (fish or kelp) broth, typically featuring tofu, seaweed (wakame), and green onions. It is simple to make in under 20 minutes, offering a nutritious, comforting side dish known for aiding digestion, high protein, and mineral content. This is nice and hot! Huge bowl too! For our next item, we are having edamame. Edamame is an East Asian dish prepared with immature soybeans in their pods, which are boiled or steamed, and may be served with salt or other condiments. It is consumed in many world regions. Edamame is a common side dish in Chinese cuisine, Japanese cuisine and as an appetizer to alcoholic beverages, such as beer or shōchū. As an ingredient, edamame is used in both sweet and savory dishes, such as takikomi gohan, tempura, and zunda-mochi. These are steaming hot! Nice and salty too! Well, put comes the complementary Tuna Tataki. This thinly sliced seared tuna with ponzu sauce. This is fantastic! Wow! For our next item, we are having the Blackened Salmon which is sliced with ponzu sauce. This is spicy! Add soy sauce! This is great! For our next drink, we are having a Melon ball made with Midori vodka and orange juice. This is well balanced! No garnish as normal here! It tastes great! For our next item, we are having Ikura. Red caviar, also known as salmon roe or ikura caviar, is a popular seafood delicacy that comes from salmon and trout roe. It's known for its bright orange color, medium-sized eggs, and thin shells. Red caviar is a staple of Russian cuisine, often eaten during holidays like New Year's. It's high in omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins, and minerals, and is considered a good source of nutrition. Different types of salmon roe have unique tastes, colors, textures, and sizes. A "taste of the ocean." What's better than that! For our next item, I'm having the Spicy Eel and Shrimp Hand Roll. A hand roll (temaki) is a cone-shaped sushi item featuring seasoned sushi rice, fillings (sashimi-grade fish, seafood, vegetables), and a crisp, toasted nori sheet wrapper. Assembled by hand and eaten immediately by hand (without chopsticks), it offers a customizable, crunchy, and easier-to-make alternative to traditional maki sushi. These are good! Sushi snow cones! For our last drink, we are having the Caribbean Joy. This is made with Bacardi rum, pineapple and lemon juice. This is good! It's the rum version of the last drink! It's quite good! For our entree, we are having the Volcano Roll made with peppery salmon, gently fried, spicy tuna and red/hot sauce. Look at the presentation! OMG! For dessert, I have no idea what's coming out! Oh yeah! This is the bomb! OMG! The surprise of the night! Tempura ice cream! What better than this!!!!

Have been here several times through the years, it's been a few since the last time we ate here…read more Unfortunately, this visit left me afraid to ever go back. We stopped in around 3PM, no one else in the place at the time. We spent $75, no alcohol (+$20 tip). Appetizers, included salads, miso soup, chicken tempura and softshell crab. Main courses were seafood tempura and cashew chicken. Nothing seemed to be extraordinarily bad or good. I did notice a fly buzzing around, something that could be concerning, especially inside a sushi restaurant. I didn't give it much thought, I just remember noticing it. Later that day and night, we both began experiencing gastrointestinal issues, requiring many trips to the bathroom, it lasted thru to the next day. If it had only been just one of us, I probably wouldn't have given it much thought or would be leaving this review,. However, since we both had problems, I feel I should put it out there in case anyone else reading this had issues (or worse) from that day (Thursday, 10/30/25). We did not get sick to our stomachs, just 14-16 hours of staying close to the bathroom. I have always enjoyed everything at Higashi and never had a complaint, I say they were all 5-star experiences. After this, I won't risk coming back- I have no doubt we were served something that caused our intestinal distress. Service was great, place appeared clean and why I gave 2 stars. But it bothers me to see any flies inside an eatery, especially since the season and weather was not conducive for fly breeding, flies had to originate from inside the restaurant, they did not wander in from outside.... I've seen too many 'Bar Rescues' to know not all kitchens are kept clean and/or food stored safely. If one sees a fly or flies, it may be in one's best interest to walk out. This rule can be applied to any restaurant, especially ones that not open to the outside and/or during a season that is well past fly-breeding conditions. I learned the hard way and will make this a rule of thumb from now on.
