    General Tso's "Chicken"

There was literally no chicken in this general Taos chicken. Every single piece was just fried batter. Also had drunken noodles and they were okay but the chicken was rubbery. They were very quick for takeout.

Trying to kill time and got hungry so we randomly stopped in. The food we got was delicious. It's a typical take out with small sitting place and ordering at the counter. Got wonran soup was clear plain both showcasing the wontons. Also got Char Koon special noodles which I loved!!

Got Chx Pad Thai. Flavor was ok but chicken was not cooked so i ended up taking all the chicken out. Half way thru, there was a plastic piece from the food.

Hot and Sour Soup, Kung Pao Chicken, fried rice, egg roll.

I must have caught this resto on a bad night, I've never had a more disappointing meal in a Chinese restaurant. The hot and sour soup was ok, not the best I've had and that goes for the egg roll as well. The King Pao Chicken was borderline awful, with a dark salty flavorless sauce that just did not make any sense what soever. The chicken had a coating similar to General Tso's certainly nowhere near as tasty as I have had elsewhere, I've never seen that done. In my opinion the chicken had been prepared in advance and reheated as it was tough, stringy and bore no taste resemblance to chicken at all. The fried rice, again I just don't get it, insipid, total lack of flavor. Most of this meal I dumped in the trash, I've never been in a situation where I have had to do that. I really hope this was a fluke and someone decided to take an unfortunate experimental short cut that just didn't work out.

Have had lunch here, maybe a half a dozen times. Have never had a dish I disliked. Today I tried Noodes with Wonton and Spicy Pork ($6.55) - a very nice dish of angel hair noodles with meat wontons, shredded pork, and garnished with spinach. The wontons and pork were outstanding, the angel hair was angel hair (no more and no less), and the brown sauce was thin and could have used a little more flavor. Overall, it was a good dish, and a pretty decent value considering you get an egg roll or soup too included with the price. Service? Well the lady who works in the back and doesn't come up front too much is a delight- always smiling and cheerful and genuinely glad to see you. The high profile young guy up front who does most of the customer interactions (dine in order taking & phone orders) really needs to chill a bit. He mumbles and is hard to understand and has zero personality. He asked me two times "egg roll or soup" and I didn't understand him either time. After the second mis-connection, he sighed a very audible sigh and pointed to the menu so I could read "egg roll or soup". What a nice mix of immaturity and rudeness........ When the phone rings for an order he rattles off the words "Char Koon" so fast you'd think he was on a game show with the clock running out. We've all heard that studies have shown that if you talk to someone on the phone, your phone mate can tell if you're smiling or not by the tone of your voice. I wonder what customers think when he answers the phone in such a poor manner? This guy needs a personality transplant or an attitude adjustment

The best part of my experience today was the clean and functional handicap accessible bathroom. Automatic door and emergency pull string, real liquid soap, paper towels, and support handles. As for the food well it was lack luster, and I kind of wish I had Frozen yogurt instead of the Char Noodle Special pad Thai. There was cut up iceberg lettuce and very wet sauce in my dish ... the sauce taste good, but this didn't taste like pad Thai at all. At least the spring roll was tasty & hot, but I wouldn't go again.

I've been a customer ever since I moved to CT from Southern California; at the time it was one of only two Chinese restaurants in the northeast area of Windsor. Char Koon appears to remain busy throughout the day (and late into the evening on weekends and weekdays), which is a testament to its "pretty-darn-good"-ness and consistency. We get take-out 99.9% of the time. We call in our order about 15-20 minutes beforehand, and by the time we arrive, Char Koon always manages to pack all items very securely, replete with complimentary fried wontons and a variety of sauces, neatly packed into a mini-plastic bag. Favorite appetizers include the BBQ spareribs (with bone-in) and Beef Satay. The Shrimp Lo Mein has lots of succulent shrimp and it's cooked with lots of garlic - just the way we like it. The Grilled Jumbo Shrimp with Rice Noodles (Vietnamese Style) is always, always excellent. As far as entrees, we tend to favor their "Southeast Asian Corner" menu items. Our entree favorites include the Eggplant Nyonya Style and Pan Fried Salmon with Thai Sauce -- though we rarely order both at the same time because the portion sizes are huge. The entrees are big enough to share between two-to-three people. We always ask for an extra helping of white rice because the rice that comes with each entree isn't enough for anyone who loves rice in every spoonful. An honorable mention goes to their venerable Chinese dish, Kung Pao Chicken (or Kung Pao Shrimp) -- except I ask for extra peanuts and ask them to hold all the veggies. It's not as authentic as other Kung Pao dishes that I've had, but it's close enough for Windsor! There is ample parking; if you choose to dine in, the dining room is kitschy, comfortable and they offer free water with clean cutlery (or chopsticks).

My wife had a craving for rice during our last night in Connecticut, so stopped into this strip…read moremall restaurant near our hotel for an early dinner. The food (taste and value) and service was solid. It's an interesting name (like others, knew a 'Jimmy Chen' while growing up...Chen being a very popular surname in China and in the Chinese community in the U.S.). They have a good website, so was able to scout the menu before arriving and knew that we had missed their lunch specials. It wasn't too busy inside, and there was plenty of parking in the small strip mall (Sophia's Plaza). We were greeted immediately, led to a booth, and offered a free appetizer of deep fried wonton skins with sweet/sour sauce (appreciated since not a common practice on the West Coast). Chen's is marketed as Asian Cuisine which in this part of the country means Chinese (Chinese-American classics) and Japanese (sushi and bento) with a little bit of Thai (Pad Thai and Pineapple fried rice). We were too late to take advantage of the lunch menu special ($9.25 or $10.25 during 11:00 - 3:00), but Jimmy's offers the same as combo specials (anytime but priced higher at $13.25). Our server stated that the lunch option does have (slightly) smaller portions, and doesn't include the egg roll. We ordered two plates, shared between the two of us: C4 Beef Broccoli and C19 Garlic Shrimp, each coming with a big, fat egg roll well deep fried and a rich (greasy with chinese bbq pork) fried rice. The garlic sauce was really good, not too garlicky (noticing how a 'garlic' Chinese dish has quite a bit less garlic than a 'garlic' Italian dish). I loved that they used 5 really jumbo shrimps, each big enough to be split into 4 bites. The vegetables (broccoli, peppers, water chestnuts, and celery) were sliced thin and cooked well (though didn't have the distinctive wok-fried smokiness that i love). The beef dish wasn't as good...decent sauce and plenty of broccoli, but the sliced beef wasn't good...very mushy, almost parboiled, similar to the versions at buffets or a Panda Express. There is a full service bar inside, along with a sushi bar manned by a chef. For us, service was very good, with our waters being constantly refilled. Payment was done via clover (though done away from the table). It was a good last meal during our trip.

The parking lot was also spacious and easy to get in and out of. My family and I dined there on Saturday for lunch. The service was good too. We were hungry so we started off with the yellowtail and scallion sushi roll; it's super fresh and melted in my mouth good. They also serve fusion tacos; we opted for the teriyaki beef bao bun taco. This came with lettuce, bean sprouts, sesame seeds, scallions, ginger, and soy. I was a fan, but not sure if it's really fusion since it's just a regular bao bun with toppings. For my entree, I went for the classic, General Tso's chicken with white rice. The flavor was good! I liked that it had slices of zucchini, peppers, carrots, in a hot pepper tangy sauce. The portions were good too. They have an extensive menu with so many other food I want to try. From pad Thai, curry, teriyaki, to sushi; there is something for everyone. The cocktails were tasty sounding too. My family and I look forward to going back again.
