Curry Chicken Balls - inside to show the filling.
    C R.

Stopped in to check out Post Market and came across this place. I got an order of their Curry Chicken Balls. They were made fresh and came out hot. The dough reminded me of a similar thing my grandmother used to make. The consistency of the dough was spot on and there wasn't too much curry flavor. I would have liked more curry but it was still delicious. They were cute pear shaped and the filling was enough - I love the dough part of these type of dumplings; others may want more filling. I'd get them again if I came back for a visit since I don't live in Houston.

Overall this place was good, but not great. I was expecting a little more bang for the buck and richer flavors than what was delivered on my plate.

Vibe: Modern elegant w/ traditional Chinese influences…read more Overall Food Quality: Excellent Overall Price Range: about $17-$29 (meat), $22-$25 (seafood), $30+ (premium/specialty) Overall Customer Service: Excellent Recommend: Yes Fung's Kitchen offers Cantonese and Hong Kong-style cuisine in a spacious, modern dining room that still maintains an elegant traditional Chinese character. The warm golden lighting, chandeliers, white-tablecloth tables, red upholstered chairs, decorative woodwork, and striking red-and-gold dragon and phoenix centerpiece give the restaurant an upscale banquet-hall feel. Even when packed with diners, the restaurant feels lively and welcoming rather than overly formal. There are about six private spacious rooms which are great for events, birthdays, and/or social gatherings. There's also plenty of parking, which is a big plus. The menu is extensive, and most of what we ordered was excellent. Lobster Mountain -- $168 | 9/10 Definitely the showstopper of the meal. Six lobsters are stacked into an impressive, highly photogenic "mountain," accompanied by fries and a crispy dome-shaped taro creation underneath. The lobster meat was tender and juicy, while the crispy exterior was loaded with flavorful garlic and jalapeño. It's an eyeful when it arrives at the table and tastes almost as impressive as it looks. Considering you receive six meaty lobsters plus the extras underneath, it's well worth the price for our party of six adults and three kids. Whole Peking Duck -- $58 | 4/10 Unfortunately, this was the biggest disappointment. The skin was crispy and the meat tender, but the duck wasn't particularly juicy and lacked the deep savory flavor and aromatic fragrance I expect from a great Peking duck. Given the portion and overall quality, I didn't feel it justified the $58 price. Stir-Fried Beef Flat Rice Noodles -- $19 | 10/10 Outstanding and easily one of the highlights. The beef was tender, the noodles had an excellent smoky wok hei aroma, and the dish wasn't overly greasy. Great portion for $19 and easily among my top five stir-fried beef flat rice noodle dishes I've ever had. Mayonnaise Walnut Shrimp -- $25 | 8/10 Jumbo shrimp with a crispy exterior coated in a delicious sweet-and-savory mayonnaise sauce. The generous portion and quality made the $25 price reasonable. Egg Tofu with Snow Pea Leaves -- $21 | 8/10 The tofu was soft and creamy, while the fresh, crisp snow pea leaves and savory sauce brought everything together beautifully. Very satisfying, although $21 feels a little steep for a medium-sized portion. Spot Prawn Sashimi -- $98 | 6/10 Beautifully presented over ice with approximately 8-10 prawns, with the heads and bodies separated. The prawns were fresh and naturally sweet and paired nicely with the sushi sauce and ginger. Quality was good, but at $98, the portion makes this difficult to consider a strong value. Jalapeño Garlic Soft-Shell Crab -- $30 | 9/10 Another standout. The crispy batter was packed with garlic, butter, black pepper, and jalapeño flavor, while the fresh crab inside remained the star. Savory, crispy, and satisfying, with pricing comparable to similar dishes around the area. Service was exceptional throughout our visit. We were seated immediately upon checking in for our reservation, our order was taken promptly, and the food arrived quickly. Despite how busy the restaurant was, there always seemed to be a waiter nearby whenever we needed utensils, napkins, water, or wanted to order something else. Even the co-owner and manager personally stopped by our table to make sure everything was going well--a thoughtful touch that we really appreciated. Overall, Fung's Kitchen was an excellent dining experience. Prices can run high on certain dishes, and the Peking duck was disappointing, but the Lobster Mountain, beef flat rice noodles, soft-shell crab, attentive service, and impressive atmosphere more than made up for it. For the foregoing reasons, I would highly recommend Fung's Kitchen, especially for larger groups looking for authentic Cantonese seafood and shareable dishes.

The ha Ka0, siu mai, black bean clams, salted whole shrimps, crispy taro rolls, cai lan, black sesame buns, and hot tofu dessert are all good. It was $200 pre tip for 6 and I gave them a big tip because the team did a great job given how busy they are. They also bring the machine to you so you can pay by card easily now. Highly recommended! Staff thank you on the way out and I thought that was kind. We had a nice family time today and left full and happy.

Even when it was busy on Father's Day morning, the staff did a good job of managing the crowd. Inside is a very grandiose and expansive dining room that was busy but not overly loud or uncomfortable. Immediately, the famous dim sum carts are coming your way with a fresh assortment of classics. My personal favorites were the fried taro ball and the shumai which were great, along with the duck. Overall, we were mostly satisfied with everything, and we noticed that staff were very accommodating to large groups and others. Every server we encountered at the carts was very kind and we left very satisfied.

Great spot for dim sum!…read more Service was active and friendly. Maybe too friendly. They have some of the carts coming around but we ordered from the paper/server instead. Everything tasted fresh and rivaled some of the better dim sum places I've been in other cities. It got very busy very quickly. So expect to wait a little while at prime times, even though it's a pretty big restaurant. Recommend trying it out if you want some good dim sum.

Per our friend, their salt and pepper ribs are the best they've had in Houston, and I would agree. It was crispy, flavorful, and the meat was tender. Yum! Definitely the highlight of the meal. The beef cubes with asparagus and mushrooms was good too. Beef was nice and tender and flavor was good. The house special tofu was a surprise box as it literally had everything in it! There was beef slices, chicken chunks , squid, shrimp, charsu, bamboo in addition to deep fried pieces of tofu. I enjoyed the dish, but maybe because there were too many things in it I would probably try something else next time, before you're not sure which protein you're going to get each time. Sautéed on choy was good as well. I can't comment on the service or ambience since we didn't dine in. However, overall enjoyed the place and would love to return to try other dishes (as well as reorder the salt and pepper ribs.

Don't be fooled by its English name, you will not be eating Shanghainese food here: this is a traditional Cantonese restaurant. In typical Chinese American fashion, we had the "adult" table and of course we sat at the "kids" table. We ordered the classics as pictured. The food is always tasty and consistent. Service is friendly and the even though this spot is no frills, it is a familiar place with a very family-centered atmosphere. You can not go wrong with old reliable. If you are ever craving authentic, traditional Cantonese cooking without the large, dim sum hybrid model, I definitely recommend this place. Perfect for lunch with coworkers, by yourself, and great for larger dinners with the whole family.

5 Stars - Authentic Szechuan that absolutely nails the classics…read more During our short trip to Houston, as a custom, we were determined to find real Szechuan food, and luckily we found Hu's Kitchen. The location is a bit unassuming, and parking is definitely tough (the spaces are very shallow), but the second we walked through the doors and smelled the Szechuan peppercorns, I knew we were in exactly the right place. I generally judge a Szechuan restaurant by their 夫妻肺片 (Fuqi Feipian)--which they cleverly name "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" on the menu. They completely nailed it. The beef, tripe, and tendon were incredibly cohesive together, yet you could tell each component was prepared and marinated in a slightly different way to perfectly highlight its specific texture. The chili oil was right on the spot. We went through a massive bowl of rice just eating this dish alone. Honestly, if I weren't feeding a family of four, I could have just ordered that and been perfectly happy. While the Fuqi Feipian proves their skill with dry dishes, the 水煮魚片 (Fish in Szechuan Hot Chili Oil) proves their skill with wet ones. It's another must-order. The execution was flawless--we didn't just finish the tender fish chunks, we ate every last piece of cabbage soaked in that incredible chili broth. For my two daughters who can't handle the heat, we ordered the fried rice, garlic pork ribs with onion, and the 紅燒獅子頭 (Giant Meatball with Cabbage). The giant meatball was spectacular. The kids completely devoured it on their own, but I managed to steal a bite, and it instantly brought back childhood memories of exactly how this dish is supposed to taste. We also had the Dan Dan Noodles, which were great and rounded out the meal perfectly. I loved all of the dishes we tried. Should we ever find ourselves in Houston again, we will absolutely be revisiting this hidden gem.

No complaints here since we were starving from an 8 hour road trip. The Dan Dan Noodles...I had high expectations but sadly this dish fell short. I recommend Hu's Cooking to use a bigger bowl and more sauce because it was difficult to mix the noodles and the sauce wasn't...saucing, unfortunately. I wish there was more flavor in this dish. The Scallion Pancake was super over-fried and oily. See image in my review. The outer parts of the pancake were fried to a crisp and only a small circumference in the center stayed chewy. I know Chinese tends to be oily but this pancake soaked up way too much oil. Half a Peking duck: super great price for so much meat. The difficulty when eating this dish is gnawing the meat off the sharp bones of the duck. Mapo Tofu with white rice: pretty easy staple, no complaints here. Dinner on a Saturday was packed but we got seated quickly and food arrived fast.
