I was really impressed by the packaging as they give a heat regulated thermal bag for the order. I appreciated that they have a number of non pork options as I don't eat pork. The chicken soup dumplings were flavorful though I'd have liked more soup. I put some red pepper flakes on top as there was no chili oil provided. The combo came with general tso's chicken and I opted for lo mein instead of fried rice. The dish as delicious but the chicken was dry. The combo also came with 2 thumb print pork dumplings which I didn't try and regular chicken dumplings which lacked a bit of flavor. There was also a spring roll which was just very greasy. The thumb buns were my favorite, juicy with a little crisp and a nice flavor profile with the black sesame seeds on top. They're actually a little bigger than thumb size but every bite was delicious. The braised beef noodles were a good portion but did taste bland. The four-color dumplings were good, had some unique flavors that were different from each other. Unfortunately, had one dumpling, maybe a beef one, that the filling seemed really undercooked. Overall, 3.5/5 for food. I wanted to like this place, but the service received was very unpleasant. I ordered their weekday lunch special, which was advertised as $12.99 on the automated ordering kiosks, but the final charge was $16 + tips. Since the difference was only a few dollars more, I didn't think much of it, but the place is definitely lacking price transparency. Once I grabbed a table number and seated, the food arrived relatively quickly. From where I was seated, I could see that the fried rice was premade and kept warm in a rice cooker. The hot and sour soup came out next and likely was also premade in batch. The beef entree and the fried dumplings took a while longer, so I assume those were made fresh to order. While waiting, I had a bit of time to observe the surroundings. Since I visited in the mid-afternoon, it was relatively empty restaurant with just my table and the staff. I noticed that one of the staff was coughing and seemingly feverish as she slouched her shoulders and walked sluggishly around the restaurant checking on the utensils stand and wiping down other used tables. Later while eating, I overheard the staff tell the floor manager in Chinese that she wasn't feeling well, which confirmed my suspicion. Toward the end of the meal, the floor manager was close enough to my table, so I waved her to my table and recommended that the sick staff wear a mask if she's not feeling well given that's a health hazard to visitors of the restaurant and the many medical professionals who also order takeaways from this location. The floor manager pretended to not know about the other staff member being sick and asked how I knew, to which I responded with the symptoms that I observed earlier. Then she shifted her tone and seemed to acknowledge the feedback given my descriptions, but as I observed for the next 15 min, she did not approach the other staff member at all to confirm nor address the situation. I was very disappointed in the way the situation was handled, and it left me with unease as I finished the remainder of my meal. Once I was done, I stood and asked the floor manager what is the process for handling the table cleanup, since all the food was served in disposable containers but there was no trash bin in my line of sight. The floor manager smiled at me mockingly and said "of course you have to throw everything away and then we can wipe the table when you are gone". I asked where the trash bin was, and all she did was point to the back. Even when she saw me pile up all the containers between my hands, she did nothing to assist nor even verbally offer assistance even though there was no one else waiting on her for anything. I ended up leaving my own belongings at the table to carry all the trash in one attempt. As I approached the back, another staff walked into the restaurant with the emptied trash bins, so I stood to wait until the bins were placed back into the box. While waiting, the large fan next to the trash bin almost blew some of the napkins and wrappers out of my food containers. I walked back to my table to grab my belonging and provided the feedback on the fan placement, and again, the floor manager merely nodded, not offering any apologies for the experience despite witnessing the whole scene. Overall, the food portions were large and the quality was good, but it's not worth it for the unpleasant dining experience, especially if there's nothing to demonstrate that they place the same emphasis on health and safety. read more

I wanted to give 88 Dumpling House a higher rating based on their friendly service, clean restaurant, ease of ordering on the kiosks, and their tasty and massive Tom Yum seafood soup with tons of protein (shrimp, mussels, clams, squid, and interestingly chicken). However, the dumplings were a letdown. We tried three different types and each had a general lack of flavor and the pork and beef had very little filling. The four color soup dumplings also lacked soup filling and didn't really taste different between each option (we only received 3 colors, so not sure if the fourth was out/not available). It may be a better value to go for their lunch special and maybe grab one of the non dumpling options. I recommend trying the Tom Yum because the broth was the best part of my meal. The thumb size buns were ok as well, a little dry. The wontons were the best thing we tried taste wise, but the wrapper broke too easily. Two other friends came later and ordered different things and they were much better and enjoyable. The soy sauce and vinegar felt tasteless as if it didn't affect the taste at all. The guy we talked to only spoke Chinese and didn't understand us so we never got our free dumplings. This is a great new spot. We've been twice now and had good experiences both times despite what we've decided to call "learning experiences." Highlights: Most food is very good, pricing is reasonable, portions are generous, service is efficient with a kiosk order and then bussed delivery to your table. Cucumber salad is wonderful. It's a salty salad as opposed to a vinegary acidic one. We love it. Cilantro makes it bright and there's a touch of spice. Spicy wontons are my favorite, I eat an entire order myself. Don't miss this. Shrimp and pork dumplings are my wife's favorite. HUGE 4 bite dumplings with a whole shrimp!! Thank you for not mincing it!!! The texture is important! Mini bao's were good and all rice dishes we've tried were done well. A couple of draw backs or detractions we note... You have to ask for ice and their options for flatware, cups, plating and napkins etc are all take-out grade. Paper, plastic and disposable. For dine in, it would be nice to have metal utensils if not using chopsticks. (Wooden chopsticks are fine...) The tiny 4"x4" cocktail napkins are particularly annoying. Please, just get some paper towels or something. Also the XLB were terrible. This iconic dish just couldn't be done any worse. Thick thick dough, no soup, flavorless filling. We have ordered it twice. The first time we -thought- we'd accidentally been served mini bao. They replaced it (again, lots of ownership and pride from the employees! Double thumbs up for the service) and it was the same thing! We thought surely it was a new employee. Surely they can't be that poorly executed... Trip number two and we tried again... same thing. We learned our lesson and will just order the stuff we like from now on.
