I'm always on the lookout for a good Chinese restaurant to try, so was happy to stumble upon Ambassador. The website was very appealing so I was more than ready to try it. The interior was impressive and packed full of happy looking patrons. We were served quickly and were given good and friendly service. We ordered the general tsao chicken, king pao shrimp, famous egg rolls and pork dumplings. Everything was pretty tasty! The only issue was that we were given a chicken dish instead of the shrimp one we ordered. Once we called to inform the restaurant, they were quick to refund us the difference in cost. For the general tsao chicken I was hoping for a little more gravy and the texture was a little over fried for my liking. Returned to ambassador for the first time in a long time. It is still the same. The owner greeted us and sat us right away. We ordered two egg rolls, Singapore noodles, and another entree called "three delight" contained beef, chicken, and shrimp. It was plenty of food for two hungry guys, and I still had enough to bring home for another meal. Ambience is pleasant, quiet, and not too noisy despite having a good crowd. read more

The staff are very friendly and welcoming, and they have many loyal regular diners. A happy family of 12 held a joyful birthday celebration while we were present. We had the wonton soup, which was highlighted by crunchy fried wonton skin. However, the broth was overly salty and lacking in flavor. The walnut shrimp were huge, light and tasty. The Moo Shu Pork was okay, we have certainly had better at other Houston restaurants. Oddly, there were two different music stations playing at the same time, competing for attention. Went to the ambassador on a Sunday night, ordered hot and sour soup and edamame and the order of egg rolls as appetizers. The spicy and Damme was exceptionally good as well as the eggrolls.. The main courses we ordered were the sesame chicken and the mandarin beef portions are excellent, and the flavor of the food was well above local Chinese fare. Great location family owned since 1975. Ordered online the Singapore Special and honestly what a disappointment. I received something completely different with big chunks of vegetables that don't go with the dish and noodles were thick. They seem to have changed the ingredients or cook because this was not the dish I'm used to getting. For our appetizers we ordered their hot and sour soup, mandarin noodle soup (they said that no one had ever ordered before and that made us actually order), crab puffs, veg dumplings, and egg rolls. And for the main course we ordered chicken lo-Mein, Hunan Chicken, Beef Mongolian, and Spicy eggplant. Everything from their appetizers to their entree was on point - just the right amount of spices and flavor, and it was served nice and hot. The mandarin noodle soup is a big bowl of broth with noodles that comes with shrimp, chicken, beef and a bunch of vegetables. Their meat in all the dishes was very well cooked. Our server was this cute little girl who made sure was always smiling and made sure all requests were made. She was so gracious and accommodating. Made us all feel like family. Had sizzling rice soup for the first time in my life and boy was it a treat! Nobody else in town makes this and I can see why. Preparation for this dish takes time to make it perfect! If I'm not mistaken, it really isn't on the printed menu but you can ask for it ;) The only inconvenient thing is that restrooms are single units. So only one mens and one woman's so you have to wait to wash your hands and use facilities if needed. That won't hold me back from driving the 45 minutes it takes me from where I live! Their eggrolls use to be my favorite. It had a funky taste and the red sauce smells like chemical. I threw it right out. Everything was bad. Tasteless and phony. I spent $50 on an order and was very disappointed. Ordered Orange Beef, Mushu Pork, and House Pan Fried Crispy Noodles. Every dish is bland. Zero Flavor. Menu incorrectly describes crispy noodles. They were soft lo me in noodles. The pancakes for mushu pork are store bought Mexican tortillas. The rice is bought from an American store. After coming here for 15-20 years, I've eaten my last meal here. After Beryl, all I wanted was some hot food -- namely stir-fried veggies in brown sauce (spicy, please). The waitress and I couldn't communicate -- "stir fried vegetables, in brown sauce, spicy please" ended up with me getting some god awful veggie/breadcrumb/hush puppy "meatballs" in brown sauce. I ate two and when I started to gag, I asked for my check -- indicated that is NOT what I wanted -- whereupon the waitress asked if I wanted to take the leftovers with me. INSTEAD, she should have asked (1) what the problem was, (2) and what she could do to resolve the problem. (Proper resolution: spend $1.50 and throw half an onion, a carrot and a couple of celery stalks in the wok, add some brown sauce, and create a happy customer.) So this was the last visit for me. Enjoy your last $15 from me. Frequent price increases, the elimination of egg rolls with lunch, and tonight's poor customer service ended my 15-20 year relationship with Ambassador. My son heard really great things about this place so we wanted to try it. It's super cute outdoors and looks really nice on the inside although the rug that leads from the front door to the host stand is super dirty, they need to either replace it or steam clean it. Made the ambiance of the inside go down a few notches. Service was great, we were dearly immediately, greeted immediately and food came out super quick. They have great lunch specials, you get a soup and can add on an egg roll or crab puffs for a small extra charge. The portions were nice and big, the egg rolls are the biggest I've ever seen before! I ordered the orange chicken with brown rice, egg roll and crab puffs. I also ordered the hot and sour soup. Soup was really good although this was the first time I've had this soup so I don't really have anything to compare it to. I will say the one thing is that the chicken they used for my dish was nice and big, white breast meat. My dish wasn't the most flavorful. It was ok, egg roll was ok, crab puff was small but good. I've had better. My son got the Kung pao chicken and his was really good and flavorful. Don't know that I would return but I'm glad we tried it. Still searching for our Friday night Chinese " go to, " and decided to try this much reviewed restaurant on a Saturday afternoon. Restaurant was open for business and empty when we arrived. A couple things, there are no menus to read from if you're sitting in the dining room. So if you're eating in, make sure you have your phone and turn on your "wifi," on as that's the only way to order your food. A couple outside tables to choose from but since it was a rainy day we decided to sit inside. Restaurant was clean, wait staff was friendly and food prepared quickly (within 15 minutes). As far as food, we ordered chow mein, orange chicken and Mongolian beef. When it comes to quantity, while the dishes were served up in robust portions, dishes came out lukewarm and out of the three dishes the only dish we thought was decent was the Mongolian beef. It was nothing out of ordinary but it was a rainy day and we just wanted something quick to eat. Not sure what the hoopla is all about but for $48+ I would of rather eaten at a hole in a wall in Chinatown. read more

But I ordered combination lo mein for take out and was disappointed to find the dish lacked any flavor and very little protein. 3 shrimp, little bits of chicken and beef and no pork.
