My third delivery visit echoed my reactions on my first two. Here goes: I am thoroughly familiar with NOLA cuisine and with crabs and oysters and was excited to find this spot after the demise of a similar restaurant on Atlantic Avenue. BUT: The gumbo, which did have a perfectly flavored roux, was populated with only two thumbnail-sized "baby" shrimp and a piece of the tiniest (and thus inedible due to its size) blue crab. It'd be illegal in many states to take blue crab this small. The fried oysters were too heavily breaded and fried for too long for my taste and too expensive. The oyster PoBoy was good enuf for my wife and the chicory coffee panna cotta was terrific. Sadly I'm done after three tries and I so wanted to like this spot. read more

I was really craving Cajun food and decided to give this place a try. I'm so glad I did. I tried the gumbo, the red beans and rice and my personal favorite the crawfish etouffee. This was some of the beast cajun food I've had in the city! 10/10 would recommend! read more

Lowerline from John Verlander is an absolute hit! As someone who spent four years living in and countless visits back to New Orleans, John's cooking is authentic and on point. Stop by this cozy eatery and try any of the oysters (easily the best oysters I've had all summer...Disco Hama by the Hama Hama Company), any of the Po' Boys (we had the shrimp) and the crawfish etouffee (rich with flavor and rewarding). Here's how you can tell that a Po' Boy is authentic...the mayo that comes part of a "dressed" Po' Boy is warm. Order a Po' Boy next time you visit NOLA and you'll see what I mean. If you show up and there's a little wait, no worries. Because the food is typically cranked out pretty fast, tables turn over fairly quickly. Just put your name down on the list and relax. Kudos to John and team for putting out no compromise cajun cuisine in the perfect location...until his next location pops up, which seems inevitable at this point. read more

WOW Just happened to have stumbled into this little Popular neighborhood spot. Super nice unpretentious service.. But the Star here is the delicious authentic Cajun delights. Why haven't we gone here earlier. Precocious, it sounded like a tiny spot with prices that didn't support the limited indoor dining. Haven't been here but have ordered for delivery and the food is delicious! Pros: - fast delivery and fried oyster/fries were still crispy! - po boy and gumbo combo was delicious - you get to try two popular items as well - muffuletta po boy was a nice twist; highly recommend Cons - it is a little pricey for the neighborhood. Sandwiches ~$16 - portions for the fries and fried oysters were laughable. I did indeed laugh upon opening the takeout containers. Silly, silly me is allergic to shrimp and averse to most shellfish, and yet I desperately wanted to give this place a shot because it was so highly raved about by my friends and neighbors and I figured at least one or two items on the menu wouldn't trigger my immensely hyperactive immune system. First off, this place is super small, like maximum of 15 people small. Try calling ahead if you have a party larger than ... 2? Second, the staff is tres friendly. You want something, you instantly got it. You have questions, they'll answer it. You debate what to eat, and if they overhear it, they'll make you a stellar recommendation. That last one is particularly true - I was thinking about the roast beef po' boy and then the guy behind the bar was like DO IT and so I did and I REGRET NOTHING. The gravy is so savory and rich, the roast beef is nice and soft, and the flavors blended so well together. I really like this place. If they'd be open to expanding their menu to include some sort of pork po' boy, I'd be even happier! Or fried chicken! read more

We came for dinner on a Tuesday evening. We arrived right before happy hour ended and had to wait probably 20 minutes for a table which was fine. They offered to put in a drink or oyster order for us at happy hour prices since we were on the list before it ended. The staff and owner were very friendly and attentive. The restaurant is very small, but cozy. The food all seems very fresh and what I had was delicious. I ordered the Shrimp Po-Boy and my friend had the Gumbo. The Po-Boy was excellent and filling. I also had the Cider which was crisp and refreshing. At the end of your meal they also give you a complimentary dessert that was delicious and was the perfect amount for a sweet finish. I will definitely be back to try some other items on their menu. read more

I only had a small meal with a friend so keep that in mind. I had a small order of gumbo and an order of fries. Fries were freshly fried and the gumbo was good too. There was a big piece of crab shell in my gumbo which was a little confusing because it wasn't like I could eat it (I tried to break it open but the crab was too small to get any meat), but it looked cool so I give them a pass. What a lovely little joint. I'm thrilled to welcome Lowerline (and a little authentic NOLA flavor) to the neighborhood. This was a perfect Valentine's Day meal for my fiance and I as our first trip together was to New Orleans. Lowerline offers many reminders of dining and drinking in the Big Easy: a soundtrack of big brass bands was playing during our meal, Crystal hot sauce was a staple at every table, the aroma of gumbo greets you as you enter, and the space itself is intimate so you can easily imagine yourself wandering in for a bite, tucked away off of a side street in the French Quarter. There are three tables in the front and then a long bar (with fresh oysters on display) for additional seating. The artwork throughout continues the theme, my favorite was a poster in the bathroom with matchbooks from well-know institutions in New Orleans (Commander's Palace, House of Blues, etc). We sampled the Oyster Po-Boy and the Seafood & Okra Gumbo and both were excellent. I had some shell in my gumbo but otherwise it might be the best I've had....ever! Hearty (chunks of crab, shrimp, sausage and oysters) and filled with flavor, I am already longing to return for more. The Po-Boy included crusty, fresh bread, shredded lettuce, delicious pickles and tomato and mayo - all perfect accompaniments for some fried oysters. After a bite and a gulp of my house beer, I felt transported. My mini-vacation came to a delightful end when our hostess served us complimentary cafe au lait panna cotta. I can't stress how amazing this treat was...so creamy and sweet, I scraped the cup with my tiny spoon savoring every last bit. Who needs Cafe du monde or beignets? Lowerline is legit. read more

I was born in the 9th ward in New Orleans east and I can definitely say this is "on point" with what you will find in New Orleans. I've had the roast beef... out of this world - " no napkins! ". Then tried the shrimp and ,being a shrimp connoisseur, thumbs up. The gumbo, exactly like it should be done. The atmosphere is great, neighborhood is great and the staff here is super friendly. SO GOOD. My mother and I came here without a waitlist spot on a rainy evening and were immediately greeted and offered a drink menu. We had a longer wait, but the atmosphere is so cozy that we didn't mind. The bar and kitchen are also open, so we could watch the action. We ordered some excellent Wellfleet oysters to start, which was a real treat with the $1 per oyster happy hour special. Dinner for me was a fried shrimp po-boy with a cup of gumbo, both delicious and not overdone. Simple but perfect for a gross day. My mother got the crawfish étouffée which was also great. Soooo good. Sat at the bar for dinner. Everyone behind the counter is super laidback, friendly and conversational. Ordered two of each type of oyster they had (1 west coast, 3 east coast) and all of them were amazing. Shucked in front of us, super flavorful and incredibly fresh. They were very knowledgable about flavor profiles and origins of each oyster. I got the crawfish etouffee, he got the po'boy + gumbo combo. Everything was amazing. Etouffee was delicious with the right amount of heat and a healthy portion of perfectly cooked crawfish tails. Gumbo was so smoky and yummy. Both were paired with perfectly cooked rice. I didn't try the roast beef po'boy but apparently it was very, very good. Gotta love a surprise dessert--we each got a little shot glass size serving of coffee panna cotta (I think there was chicory in it too?) I HOPE they come out with a dessert menu at some point, because that panna cotta was perfect. The texture was just a tiny bit jiggly, with that perfect solid-until-it-melts-in-your-mouth quality. And so intensely flavorful and creamy. Would happily pay and eat a ramekin of that. Service was speedy, friendly and so chill/relaxed. Definitely becoming a regular here. read more

What an amazing experience! We were going to the Brooklyn Museum and decided to try something new in the area. Lowerline was a great discovery; small restaurant with a lot of character and the best Cajun / Creole food we have ever tried. Their sea food gumbo was incredible and my husband ordered the ham bone with beans and rice, which was also yummy! We had some fresh oysters as appetizer, also fantastic. Their service is outstanding and they have a nice touch at the end with a house coffee dessert, that was as delicious as everything else. Lowerline is a relatively new Cajun/New Orleans style restaurant in the area and I stopped by for dinner with a friend on a rainy spring evening The menu had the traditional porous, ettuoufie and gumbo. They also have oysters which are $1 during happy hour! They have a deal for half a sandwich and a cup of gumpo for $15 which is a good deal. The food was good, pretty authentic but I wasn't blown away. Would give it a 3.5 stars really The place is small, a few tables and a long bar but the service was friendly and the server was nice. She misheard my order but then was very apologetic and corrected it. Will probably stop by once or twice more to see how they develop in the area read more
