My parents recently bought property in town, and we eat here every time we come out. I'm not just saying that because it's the only place in town either. Just ok, it was the only restaurant open in Utopia so I assume they don't have to try too hard to impress. Nothing was bad but def nothing to make a special trip for. Waitstaff was nice and fairly attentive. I did enjoy the decoration etc and they were remodeling while I was there so not sure what they are changing. My wife and I visited during our most recent trip to Garner State Park, we like to get away from the park for at least one meal and try the local flavor. By the time we chose where to sit our menu's were dropped on the table and our drink orders were taken. As we were looking over the menu we noticed the staff knew every other persons first name as they walked in the door. I know it's one of the few places to eat in the area it's still nice to see that hospitality still exists somewhere. I decided to go with the Deluxe Mexican Plate which comes with: Hard beef taco, two cheese enchiladas, rice and beans. I took it to the next proper step and had onions and jalapenos added to it. The taco comes out first and is served with their homemade salsa which I must say I should have taken with me it was so good. As for the enchiladas, it is what you would expect at a really good Tex-Mex restaurant. I would for sure order this meal again. My wife had the lamb sliders with onion rings. The lamb is grown locally by the owners and then they send send them off to the processor for prepping. My wife said you really couldn't tell that you were eating lamb, which is why I don't eat lamb because usually it tastes way too "organic" for me. Needless to say we will be returning when we are back in the area to try other things on the menu. read more

Nothing amazing here. Went in with a group of 5. Two people ordered sweet potato fries - they were out. They got onion rings instead. Two people ordered fried fish plates - they asked for lemon - they were out. Drinks came - no straws. Entrees came - waitress forgot the silverware. Food was mediocre. I had the CFS - which no matter where you go, all tastes pretty much the same. All the batter fell off of the steak as well, so it wasn't prepared properly. Waitress didn't check on us after we got our meals - drinks ran dry. Prices are a little high for the quality of food and service, but I suppose you're paying for the ambiance and location as it is in a nice quaint town. read more

They sat my wife and my son down took our orders and we sat and sat....45 mins later the tables next to us had new people and larger parties than us....but got their food very quickly. They made us wait 45 mins (more than but I timed that) before asking if we wanted "chips and salsa" to help with the wait. At this point we simply gave up and paid for the drinks we had got. I happened on this place a few years back while just driving around. I was hooked from the time I set foot in the door. The only thing I had to eat was a piece of pie but it was magnificent. We were in the area on vacation and I told my wife and son that we had to go there. We drove an hour out of the way just to eat there. This time we had an entire meal plus several pieces of pie. It was just as great as I remembered. I have to say this is one of my favorite restaurants anywhere. If you are anywhere near Utopia, TX, you must stop in for a piece of pie at least. We went on a food adventure for breakfast when we were staying in Leakey, TX, which led us to the cutest sleepy little hill country town of Utopia, TX. We arrived to Lost Maples right about 11am with a sausage, onion, and cheese omelette on the mind. We pull up to this darling country restaurant. People were eating breakfast on the wooden front porch as we arrived. The atmosphere was charming, country, with some awesome 1950's style tables mixed in addition to with wooden booths with stained glass and we were quickly greeted and sat. We were given menus for lunch but the waitress obliged us and gave us breakfast menus even though breakfast was over. You could tell that it was a family owned restaurant, even the little kids were serving etc. Totally awesome IMO. We chose the omelette, and two potato and bean breakfast tacos. The sausage, cheese, and onion omelette was OK, the onions were not grilled but fresh, so that made it just OK. When I asked for salsa a fresh glass canning jar of homemade salsa was placed on the table. It was delicious, though I just hope everyone uses a sanitary practice as I did when opening it and scooping some out. The breakfast tacos were great, homemade refried beans and tender potatoes. Locals were friendly and did not stare at you like you had two heads as happens in some tiny towns. Overall friendly service, good food, and they also sold books written by locals about the history of the area. Beautiful scenery too when driving in. read more

So disappointed. We had several recommendations to eat here. We both ordered chicken strips and they were raw inside. We were only able to eat the fries. Our waitress was busy and never came back to check on us so we just went to the counter to pay. We let the cashier know the food was raw. We were both Still charged full price so paid almost $13 each for side orders of fries. We saw our waitress as we were leaving and let her know about the raw chicken and she said "sorry" but still no offer to make it right. read more

This place could possibly be the worse meal I have ever had in my life. We ordered the catfish plate. The catfish portion was very small and over cooked. The baked potato was cold and they forgot to serve the Texas toast. My wife had the salad with chicken. However, we could not find any chicken amongst the stale spinach and vegetables. I reluctantly tried the lemon pie. It was not edible and did not contain any lemon flavor. The wait staff consisted of two teenagers who forgot our order not once be three time. Lost Maples Cafe was probably the best and liveliest restaurant in the surrounding 20-mile radius. It was at least half-full on a Sunday morning. We took a big group of around 25 people and they served us fairly quickly. I deducted two stars because the waitress handed us our water glasses by holding onto the rim where we put our mouths. Another star was deducted for the waitress handing us someone's order and calling it by the wrong name so that the wrong person received it. When we found out, she didn't apologize or even look contrite for her error. Another star was deducted for her lack of friendliness and warmth. Her job was merely to take our orders and bring the food out. However, because they got food to our large group so quickly, they deserved an extra star. Lost Maples Cafe is a cute wooden, two-story building. There is a bench outside and lots of cute, old-timey decorations to look at. The other buildings around it looked deserted. The breakfast menu is from 7 - 11 am. There are no substitutions. They also sell some homemade pastries on the counter. The pastries are overpriced but the breakfast items ranged from $5-9. As for the taste of the food, my vegetarian omelet tasted fine and the hashbrown was delicious. However, the meal was greasy and heavy. It sat in my stomach the whole day and didn't get digested quickly enough. The waitress also brought out this salsa-like condiment in a white bowl that was delicious. I liked the interior decorations. They had a wide variety of nostalgic items and animal heads mounted to the walls. I would not dine here again. read more

I've been here a handful of times when I come to visit my best friends and I think it's fun to come eat here as an alternative to eating in every night - no offense to my girlfriend who's always cooking for us! Hayden's review here is spot-on. Really terrible food for what purports to be a small-town cafe -- apparently someone sold them on the wonders of prepackaged frozen food, so stick to the basics. Even then, you may be burned (see: cole slaw). But the pie (apparently made off premises) is wonderful! If you're staying in the area, this will be your only choice to eat out -- stick to the basics, and don't order hash browns at breakfast. read more

Let's just say that my family and I were extremely surprised by this little cafe! The food is fantastic! Not greasy at all just great tasting! From the lamb sliders to burgers , tater tots and onion rings were all great! Another great aspect of our visit were the people working here! Sweet folks who advised about the movie shot here. "Seven Days in Utopia". While waiting for our food I saw the preview and ordered the dvd from amazon! My 12 year old googled a place to eat after we left lost maples and she choose this place! She loved it as much as we did! We will defiantly make a trip out here again even tho we live 2 hrs away! Driving through Utopia without phone service led to our lunch spot being picked at random. The food here was typical burgers, sandwiches, and chicken fried steak. A daily special of pot roast was delicious served with new potatoes and greens. The service was very odd, and caters more towards the locals. A guy from the area came in, ordered the special, finished it, and had ordered another special before I even got my food. I had to beg for a tea refill, and was told by my waitress that "eventually someone will come around with tea." Too bad, because the food was good, but don't expect service unless you live in the area. read more

Ok make sure you save room for the glorious, scrumptious pie! So my fiance and I headed to utopia for a quick get away. This cafe is literally the only place to eat in the town, so it's a good thing it is pretty good! The atmosphere here is country, vintage. You could tell that local people come in and just hang out and chit chat or sit on the patio and smoke. This cafe had a very warm and welcoming feel. We actually ate here two nights in a row and the first night I ordered the cheese burger with French fries. My burger was ok and my fries were fantastic. I asked for a side of ranch and I liked how the waitress brought me the whole bottle, same thing happened when my fiance ordered his salad he got the whole bottle of dressing! I liked it. We also ordered an appetizer - the jalapeno poppers which were tastey as well. They were just really hot when brought to the table. I mean hot as in temperature and they burned our mouth but after sitting about 10 minutes we could eat them. I ordered the coconut cream pie and let me tell you the meringue was so high on it, I just could not pass on it and coconut pie is not usually something I order. I am glad I did because it was so creamy custardy perfect. My fiance ordered the fudge pecan pie and he said it was delicious too. He talked so much about it he convinced me to get it the second night. It was good but I liked the coconut better. The second night I ordered the super nachos. They were good, but not as super as I was expecting. I guess since they are titled super nachos I was expecting something really big. Not that I needed it because what was on my plate was plenty, but just a little disappointed with the size. My fiance got the burger with onion rings and I recall him saying the burger was similar to a sonic burger. I did taste his onion rings and they looked homemade and were delicious. Overall this little cafe in Utopia is great and seems to be doing well. If you are driving through or staying in town I would definitely recommend stopping here and trying out the menu.
