For breakfast, I ordered the eggs Benedict, my wife chose a vegetarian scrambled egg dish, our kids split pancakes, and my oldest son ordered the steak and eggs. We also added two sides of sausage patties. Unfortunately, the kitchen was very slow considering the restaurant wasn't especially busy. Service also wasn't particularly attentive during the wait, and we were left wanting drink refills for quite a while. Once the food arrived, there were some definite highlights. My eggs Benedict were good, with perfectly runny yolks. My wife enjoyed her entrée, and the kids liked the pancakes. The standout was actually my son's steak. The ribeye served over potatoes was very good, perfectly cooked, and had excellent flavor. Unfortunately, the scrambled eggs alongside it weren't nearly as successful. They came out more like a uniform yellow mass rather than the light, fluffy scrambled eggs you'd expect. The sausage was another example of the inconsistent execution. We ordered two sides: one was noticeably overcooked while the other seemed slightly undercooked. Overall, The Local Fix has a great atmosphere and the kitchen is clearly capable of putting out some very good food--the ribeye in particular was impressive. Our experience was just inconsistent. Better attention to cooking consistency, faster kitchen times, and more attentive service would have made this a much stronger meal. The experience started before we even entered the restaurant. There was plenty of parking, and the hangar next door was open with several smaller aircraft inside, including what appeared to be a P-40 toward the back. The kids immediately got excited about seeing the planes. There's also a great playground outside along with soccer goals, which gave them plenty to do while we waited. The restaurant itself was very clean and nicely decorated with an aviation theme. I particularly liked the check-in area, which incorporates repurposed aircraft metal and glass. They did a good job making the aviation theme feel like part of the restaurant rather than just hanging a few airplane pictures on the walls. The menu is mostly familiar American fare. The kids all ordered burgers with various sides, I had the Voodoo Salad with chicken, and my wife put together a vegetarian meal from several vegetable sides. The burgers were good, as were the fries. I stole the opportunity to order onion rings as one of the kids' sides for myself, and those were excellent. The mac and cheese had very good flavor, although the texture was unusual--the cheese bound everything together into more of a uniform mass rather than having easily distinguishable noodles. Service was okay. Our waitress was polite but seemed relatively inexperienced and struggled a little with our order. When the food arrived, my wife and some of the kids were still at the playground. I asked the waitress to come back once they returned so they could order anything additional they needed, but that request seemed to create some confusion and never really got sorted out. Air traffic was fairly slow during our visit, and we only caught one takeoff. Obviously that's luck of the draw and not something the restaurant controls, but I can imagine this being an especially fun place to eat on a busier flying day. Overall, the food was good rather than exceptional, but Hangar 6 is much more than just the food. Between the aircraft, playground, aviation-themed restaurant, and chance to watch planes coming and going, it's a really cool lunch stop with kids. We made it a point to stop in for lunch at Los Alamos whenever possible because the food is just hat good. The enchilada plate is prolly the best enchiladas I've had outside of San Antonio. They're legit. I also tried their burger---it's a burger--nothing to write home about but good nevertheless. The waitstaff if mostly friendly but if you come in at like 2:45 when they're about to close, they'll be slightly less accommodating (understandably). For example, our waitress was trying to get us out the other day and didn't serve us our customary chips and salsa. Nothing major...just the little things. Anyway, there's a couple of other TexMex restaurants in the town that are decent, but I'm over the opinion that Los Alamos is the best of the group along the highway 90 corridor that cuts through the city. Oh, and it's cheap--though not cheap tasting--as it should be.
