Ok make sure you save room for the glorious, scrumptious pie! So my fiance and I headed to utopia for a quick get away. This cafe is literally the only place to eat in the town, so it's a good thing it is pretty good! The atmosphere here is country, vintage. You could tell that local people come in and just hang out and chit chat or sit on the patio and smoke. This cafe had a very warm and welcoming feel. We actually ate here two nights in a row and the first night I ordered the cheese burger with French fries. My burger was ok and my fries were fantastic. I asked for a side of ranch and I liked how the waitress brought me the whole bottle, same thing happened when my fiance ordered his salad he got the whole bottle of dressing! I liked it. We also ordered an appetizer - the jalapeno poppers which were tastey as well. They were just really hot when brought to the table. I mean hot as in temperature and they burned our mouth but after sitting about 10 minutes we could eat them. I ordered the coconut cream pie and let me tell you the meringue was so high on it, I just could not pass on it and coconut pie is not usually something I order. I am glad I did because it was so creamy custardy perfect. My fiance ordered the fudge pecan pie and he said it was delicious too. He talked so much about it he convinced me to get it the second night. It was good but I liked the coconut better. The second night I ordered the super nachos. They were good, but not as super as I was expecting. I guess since they are titled super nachos I was expecting something really big. Not that I needed it because what was on my plate was plenty, but just a little disappointed with the size. My fiance got the burger with onion rings and I recall him saying the burger was similar to a sonic burger. I did taste his onion rings and they looked homemade and were delicious. Overall this little cafe in Utopia is great and seems to be doing well. If you are driving through or staying in town I would definitely recommend stopping here and trying out the menu. I would say come more than once if you don't want to drive very far to go somewhere else too. Don't forget the pie though- save room!! read more

Ate here 2 times in two days 1st day I had an outstanding Western omelette Place was so good we had to try it the next day and I ordered a grilled hamburger steak (that was obviously quality ground steak meat) What makes this visit memorable (other than my wife raving about the pie) was the fact that I was just going to order another omelette instead of the HB steak, when I found out they didn't have A-1 or Lea&Perrins (which are verified gluten free) The waitress came back and said the owner had a family member that had a gluten allergy and not to worry, they were going to the store to buy a bottle for me.... That's customer service unheard of in this day and age If this place was in my hometown I'd likely eat here weekly! read more

Five stars all the way! From the minute we walked in we fell in love. The wait staff was friendly, helpful, and down home. Our meal started with salsa & chips let me just say this salsa is NOT made in New York City, the chips were homemade as well. Next came our meal so impressed my girls had burgers & chickens strips, they both raved about how yummy it was. Best cream gravy they have ever had! I decided since the salsa was a winner I would try the enchilada plate and was not disappointed, at all!!!!! Then came dessert I was so stuffed but took bites out of my kids pie, the pecan & buttermilk tasted just like my Grandmas. So delicious! This is worth a day trip drive, no doubt! First my wife asked for a burger on a whole wheat bun and it came on whole wheat sandwich bread....then my baked potato was black and rotten inside....and then they forgot my dinner salad, so i had it for my dessert until i noticed the red cabbage was black and rotten. After reading some of the reviews on Yelp we were kind of hesitant to visit, but Lost Maple was Good ol' fashion comfort food at its finest! We had the chicken tenders and steak strips...yum! They came out crispy and piping hot. My favorite part of the meal was the fudge pecan pie. Sadly, I had to share with my husband but could have eaten the entire pie by myself. I thought the staff was very nice and attentive. They were not busy when we were there and our food came out pretty quickly. Anytime we are back in that area of south Texas we will definitely go back. read more

This place saddens me to think about how the locals that have never left the area think this passes as food. For one, the french fries were bordering on raw while the chicken strips are barely breaded and in some case are completely burnt! The fish platter doesn't even measure up to that of frozen fish sticks which have far more flavor and far less grease. The service is horrible taking almost 1hr to get food for a table of 5! The main annoyance however is the fact that even sending food back at this place garners not even an insincere apology. Will never step into this bullshit "restaurant" ever again! read more

This place is full of character and small town cafe feel, but the food is pretty terrible. Stick to the most basic things and you'll escape with a decent meal: Burger, Chicken Fried Steak, Corndog, ect. The saving grace of Lost Maples is the AMAZING HOMEMADE PIE! I get an entire Butter Milk pie to go every time (unless they are sold out which is often). My suggestion, get some pie and get out. read more

Annual campers at Garner State Park, once we found out about Lost Maples-it became a must visit each and every year. My favorites are the dinner plate size pancakes and bacon. Everything always fresh and fast. Coming from the big city it was always so neat to walk into this quaint lil spot that exudes homey-deliciousness. I still plan to get some of that pie someday. We've been here twice, with bad experiences both times. Servers rude and unpleasant. Rolled their eyes and were clearly not happy to be there. We ordered food, then two groups walked in. The two groups that arrived before us ordered, ate, paid, and left before we even received our food. When we asked about the status we got a snippy response. When the server brought the food, her fingers were touching it (yuck), there was also a live bug crawling on the food. All while we were waiting the waitress could be seen drinking and visiting with other people. When the food arrived, it was mediocre at best. Will not be returning to this place again. read more

I don't understand negative feedback on service or friendliness...my husband and I ate here twice during a 3-day stay in Utopia, and we felt as "local" as anyone in the room. It's obvious, though, that everyone here works very hard early am to late pm and is doing their best possible to juggle multiple customers in a busy place. But we never felt slighted. The waitresses each day even took time to joke with my husband and one short cutie "warned" we would laugh at her reaching to a high shelf for takeout containers...so I offered to get one down and was tickled she felt at ease enough to let me help - just as if it were MY place, too! Portions are very generous and comfort food isn't typically "light" fare, but everything we sampled was tasty and hot and scratch-breaded/cooked. Fish, burgers, CFS, baked potato, taco salad, fresh salsa, and PIE! I marveled at how quickly the cook called out "Order!" after a new ticket went to the window. And even the dishwasher pinch-hits to answer the phone, restock supplies, etc while on "break." Nice folks, and we were so happy to be their guests! I decided to take a hill country drive from Boerne to check out Lost Maples Cafe after reading about it on-line. Pot holes and trash strewn all over the limited parking area, and the interior is really nothing special. Typical antique signs, deer mounts and memorabilia that hasn't been dusted in a while. Past reviews mentioned there were no Covid precautions being taken by the staff, and apparently there isn't any concerns over a vist from the health department. My waiter was an 18 year old kid that obviously didn't shower this morning befere coming to work, and looked like he slept in the grungy t-shirt and gym shorts he was wearing. If he had showered, he may not have been incessantly scratching his neck, face and hair incessanlty while serving food. The teenage cooks that came in while I was there went straight in from the parking lot to the grill and fryers with no hats, no hair nets, and no hand washing. The prices listed the menu on their website are $2-3 lower than the prices on the menu at the restaurant, and as mentioned before, the service was as sub par as the food. I tried the burger and fries - really soft, fresh buns, a ton of lettuce and tomato's, and a paper thin patty that was cooked on a flat top. We're talking Whataburger thin, and the fries were nothing special. Waiter never came back to ask how my meal was, never offered to refill my tea or offer one to go, and the restaurant was empty. Really disappointing, but at least I enjoyed the drive. read more

Been coming here for years with my family whenever we stay in Lost Maples or Leakey. Everyone who works here knows the locals and I love watching the people who come in to say hi from the elderly to bikers. My dad and I drove from Lost Maples to Utopia just to order a big glass of iced tea and read a book. On Labor Day, we ordered the spaghetti lunch special with ambrosia as our dessert. We also couldn't leave without a slice of pie! A lady gave me a spoonful of the buttermilk pie to taste and that's what we ordered. Thanks for the great service as always! read more

I thought the food was great! I got the chicken fried steak with baked potato. The potatoes only come with butter. You have to pay extra for cheese and sour cream. They don't have bacon bits. The chicken friend steak was perfect! You get equal amount of steak as you do crust. I hate it when you orderchicken fried steak and it is mostly crust and not enough meat. The pie was incredible. I got the fudge pecan pie with ice cream. They aren't stingy with the ice cream either. They put a big scoop on the pie. The service wasn't all that great. We did have to hunt down our server a few times for refills, to order pie, and to get the check. If we are in the area again, we will probably stop back by. read more
