Came in for lunch because we were in D'Hanis already. Reviews pushed us to eat here and we are glad they did. Ambiance is great. Small town diner feel, friendly employees, awesome decor. If you're a stuck up city-slicker, this is not the place for you. Food came out quickly, drinks never ran dry, and the food...oh man. Wife had the chimichanga with chicken, smothered in queso. Beans were surprisingly delicious, rice was really good, and the queso was fantastic. Great flavors. Large size. Relatively cheap. I had the Mexican stir-fry with chicken. It's unique, and definitely something everyone should try. I wish it had more squash, but there was plenty of chicken, a small bed of rice and fresh avocado. Another great find in the San Antonio area. We will for sure be back.

Doesn't look like much, a classic hole in the wall. I got the chicken strips and wow they were BUSSIN.

Terrible service. Baked potatoes are boiled. Chicken fried steak is store bought. Gravy's good! My toast included a bread butt.

Dude. Get the fried catfish. Better yet, have it in a sandwich. You'll be glad you did.

I got the Mexican stir-fry, which turned out to be tender, delicious steak with a wide variety of fresh vegetables.

No. Did I know there was a Castroville-favorite restaurant there as well? Also no. We had to try it. Located inside the Alsatian Golf Club's clubhouse is their 19th-hole restaurant and bar: Julianna's Restaurant. Upon entry, you realize the place has been around for some time. It feels very classic San Antonio, with wooden walls accented by tan and white bricks. The restaurant's aged interior gives it a cozy, lodge-like charm. Though the restaurant was pretty busy on a Saturday night, we were seated instantly at a booth that gave me a perfect view of the Georgia-Alabama game on the bar's TV. After nine or eighteen holes, you never know what you're in the mood for. That's why Julianna's has plenty of options: sandwiches, pizzas, pasta, seafood, steaks, and other meat dishes. Our server came by very quickly and got us our drinks, which for me was a tall Saint Arnold Oktoberfest. I had a tough time deciding between two options: a bone-in pork chop or their creamy Cajun pasta. I opted for the bone-in pork chop with a Caesar salad, bacon green beans, and herb rice. My dad got the creamy Cajun pasta, and my mom got the Southwest chicken. It wasn't long until the Caesar salad came out, with huge croutons and a generous helping of dressing. It was excellent to the point my mom wished she had ordered it over her chicken tortilla soup, which she also enjoyed. If you ever order a meat entrée and they stick a steak knife in it, you're in for an ESPN Instant Classic. The pork chop was huge, topped with a house raspberry chipotle sauce. It was tender and cooked well. I'll admit, trying to find the bone versus the pork was a challenge, but I think that was a me issue. I would order it again. As for the sides, the bacon green beans were sneakily running for Sixth Man of the Year, and the herb rice paired with the pork chop quite well. I would go back. The meal was high quality and felt like a hidden gem even for longtime Castroville residents. What a treat. RIYL: Going to golf courses while being very bad at golf.

The main bar spot happens to serve coal fired pizza though so we decided to give it a try. All their pies on the menu sounded good and my wife picked one minus a balsamic drizzle that was given to us on the side. She also ordered some garlic knots. The food arrived pretty quick and looked good, but maybe a little too toasty. Turned out that too toasty was right. They apparently must have had their heat on too high because the garlic knots were definitely burned and could have used a lot more garlic flavor. The char taste won over the garlic. The pizza was a little over toasted on the outside, but still needed some cooking in the middle. We hungrily ate half, but the rest went with us and ended up in the trash and we ALWAYS eat leftover pizza, even cold! And even from gas stations! The $50 price tag with 2 alcoholic drinks definitely wasn't worth it. Great atmosphere and nice people though. Nice place for a drink with friends and your pups. Skip the grub though.
