Aztec is an Historic restaurant located downtown just a block from the tracks. It's a Beer and wine bar only so the frozen margaritas are made with wine. Service was excellent. We've been here twice so far. I'm sure we'll be back again! Good old school Tex Mex. read more

Went to Hondo to pick up some furniture and decided to eat locally. Stopped at this place hoping it was going to be authentic Mexican food. The only thing good about the food was the chips, salsa and Mexican rice. Everything else was terrible. Got the lunch combination of a cheese enchilada and a chicken taco. The cheese enchilada was inedible as it was made with what I believe to be processed cheese like Velveta. The chicken taco had zero flavor to it. I do not recommend this place at all. read more

Standard good Mexican food with friendly service and quickly made. Really liked the enchilada because it was flavorful but not overpoweringly spicy so it was a delight to taste. The refried beans were also very good. There's not much in the way of decor but you can tell it's a Mexican themed restaurant. In the parking lot to the side of the restaurant there is a sign mentioning the restaurant that looks like it was made in Mexico. (See photos) read more

Nice! Two parking lots, easy access. Friendly greeting, quickly seated, nice decor. Nothing fancy here, just good food! The chips were so good and the freshly made salsa was even better. His beef quesadilla was good-sized with sides of beans and rice and homemade guacamole (so good!). My shrimps tacos were full of bite-sized shrimp - shrimp in every bite! My only complaint is that they don't have a full bar.....soda is served from the can with a glass of ice. Some beer and only frozen margaritas. But, the food is so good, we will return just for that! read more

My sister-in-law and her best friend from hawaii's birthday dinner. Sorry not many pictures, was 16 of us eating. Great atmosphere, private room. Food was very good! Smaller venue so was a little overwhelmed by our crowd and other customers. Overall they kept the pace and made it an enjoyable event. Definitely stop by if you are ever around! read more

The food is always good. The beef fajita chile relleno is definitely my go to meal every time.

No handicap access to get in with power wheelchair. Clean restaurant....Really only thing can say positive about our experience. Price high for so-so tasting meal. Served timely, but never asked if we wanted tea refills. Waitress acted as if she really didn't want to be there. We won't be returning. read more

It's always difficult to rate a Mexican restaurant. Eating at home with my homemade Mexican meals are always best! However, for a small city this was a good find. We enjoyed the food. But the salsa was like flavorless tomatoe sauce. Ask for the spicey green! The street tacos were good 7/10. The chips were fresh and the best part. The beans and rice, I've had better but, still good, 8/10. If we come back to the area we'd eat here again. read more

The utensils were very dirty. When we asked for different ones they brought out more dirty utensils. We showed them there was food still on them the reply was that "they were old". So we ask for plastic utensils. We ordered cheese and onion enchiladas but the onions were on the side and not in the food. They were very friendly but no we won't be bothering them anymore. read more

Your basic small-town Mexican food. Had cheese enchiladas and cheese was -- probably not real cheese. Whole pinto beans were good though and so was the rice. Salsa very thin and mild but decent flavor. read more

I was looking for a local restaurant to have a meal. My wife wanted to go here, but still we asked some locals where we should go...this was the recommendation! We were ready. The place has the great local feel. You seat yourself and can see the owner working in the back. Doesn't get much better. The meal starts off with chips...interesting chips, sort of baked not fried. The sauce was a bit bland, but not that atypical any more. Nobody wants to offend anybody these days. It was a bit thin and uninteresting as well. Oh well, we didn't come for the chips and salsa. The service was quick and polite...another good start. Nobody had mentioned the service, just that it was a great place to enjoy a good tex--mex meal. The prices were okay, nothing to write home about, but probably fair even for a small town. Everything is expensive these days, Chinese, Mexican, Italian, etc. The meal was interesting...but rather bland and boring like the hot sauce. We decided to skip dessert and cut our losses. Now the burger looked great! We also saw a nice looking taco salad go by...so we will come back and try some other items. Maybe we chose poorly the first time...we did not ask the waitress for suggestions as to what was good. I generally do ask the first time I go to a new place...so it may have been my fault that I ordered poorly. Not sure what the other choices are in a small town, but this wasn't truly worth the cash and calories for me. I hate wasting the two "C's". read more

I have been coming here for years. Family run Mexican restaurant that is always crowded with locals. There are three generations working here, with grandpa Arturo still helping bus the tables. While the restaurant decor is nothing to write home about, the food is really good! The chicken mole was my choice this time. They also do carry-out and we use that option frequently. The chips and salsa are quite nice, as well. The restaurant is family friendly, but you are able to order alcohol if you wish. read more

They have pretty good food here. The best Mexican food you'll find In Hondo. Only problem I have is the owners wife constantly standing in the office door watching over you like an overseer! EVERY TIME we've been in there it's always the same thing. I feel sorry for the staff having to try and do your job and having her standing there watching your every move!!! This lovely little restaraunt is a regular for our family. The food is fantastic and the staff if usually friendly. Prices are a little higher than I would expect for a small town eatery but are still very reasonable. Definitely recommend. This place would have recieved 5 stars, but customer service was lacking a little (I think the staff member may have been having a bad day, twice?) a couple times I have been in there. Let it be noted that I ordered carry out. And once I arrived to pick it up the doors were locked and the employees ignored me. After calling to state that they mind as well cancel my order, because I couldn't pick it up or even pay for it, they said oh.. I think it's ready. Like I would be coming back. WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE I HAVE EVER SEEN. especially when you know there is an order for pick up. Much less you should never have even taken the order if you weren't going to answer the door when I arrived! So much to say.... I will never be eating here again. Azteca is a permanent fiesta. From the multicolor Christmas icicle lights hanging from the ceiling to the mâché flowers everywhere, you can't help but smile as you enjoy the meal. Very friendly staff, delicious sweet tea, and solid fare make Azteca a routine stop for weekday lunch. My one complaint is that the lunch "specials" are $7, which is a bit high, especially for a small town. read more

Stopped here hoping for good Mexican food. The Cowboy Enchilada plate is perfect for a hungry person and very good. The puffy taco plate was good too. Beans are homemade. Yum. My only compliant is that the salsa for the chips and the enchilada sauce had a bit too much cumin. Our drinks never got low and the staff is very nice and friendly.
