If you're headed out to Leakey there aren't many food choices. I was excited to learn there was a new bar/restaurant in town. In regards to dining in the area I have a tolerate/hate relationship with a few; more on that near the end of the review. Friends and I arrive after doing the most of the roads in the area. Remodel is cool; probably an old gas station if I had to guess. Didn't look too hard at the architecture but it's a nice space. Indoor and outdoor choices with a bar! Order at the counter process was smooth. Beers delivered and we sat down outside awaiting our lunch. Personally, my Trail Boss was OK. In an attempt to get it cooked to temp versus smash patty nation I missed that it was smoked. Not that smoked is bad! Just wasn't what I wanted. But, there was an unexpected redemption. PROPER gumbo roux. Second best I've had outside on Louisiana. I'd drive back to Leakey and order a gallon of it! read more

Holy smokes, was I happy to see this place open in Leakey; it's new to us since we skipped our usual summer vacation on the Frio for a few years. (It opened in 2022.) We went two nights in a row and can recommend some things. Don't miss: the frozen house margarita. This will bring me back to Gypsy Sally's alone. It might be one of the best margs I've ever had. It was limey, delicious, and incredibly cold (to the point of seemingly magically defying the Texas heat), without being overly sweet. The rest of the drink menu looked delicious as well but after having a frozen marg the first night, I just couldn't order anything else the second night since the marg was so good. The chili was spiced well and was authentic Texas chili with no beans. I also really enjoyed the seasonal melon salad with mint and goat cheese. The atmosphere is "Texas Cool" and makes it worth spending some time there. The pool table inside was alway busy. The wait staff were friendly and helpful. I have to give them a shout out when it comes to fixing what went wrong. We placed a large To Go order on a busy Saturday night. When we got back to our cabin we realized that all of the burgers we ordered were really overcooked to the point of being inedible. A quick call resulted in those meals being refunded. Umm 5 stars, hands down! The music alone was like a playlist from my personal Spotify account. My entire family absolutely loved Gypsy Sallies! It's a full bar with great food and kid friendly; I can't ask for anything more. The ambiance was so laid back and rustic but still new. The two ladies behind the bar perfectly juggled a full bar and restaurant while maintaining excellent customer service. The restaurant at 5pm was very clean and tidy. I loved the self service water station outside with plenty of seating at the bar, inside or outside. The smash burgers were amazing with slightly sweet potato rolls. Came in on a Saturday evening. Looked like a few hunters were there and they left after one drink. When I came in I said hello to the bartender and she just stared at me. I didn't say anything after that waiting for her response and nada. I got a Modelo bottle and a bowl of gumbo. The whole time I was there I was the only one in the place and she stayed at the end of the bar and didn't say two words. Gypsy Sally's is a new, hidden gem of a Restaurant in Leakey, TX. They offer burgers, tacos, cocktails, beers, and a good outdoor seating area. The patio is dog friendly, so feel free to bring your pup! We got the queso and guacamole for the table. Both are great and simple appetizers. I also had the chilled grilled squash salad. It is THE BEST salad that I have had in west Texas. It has grilled squash topped with goat cheese and almonds is delicious and luxurious. Would definitely get the salad again! The cocktails are good but small. The mule was good and not too strong on the ginger beer. For deals, they offer beer buckets -- buy 4 get 1 free -- and a Sunday dinner special. The best time to try something is Sunday nights. Special is served from 5PM until they run out of it. Service was fast and friendly. The only improvement I could ask for is for them to find a way to keep the evening flies out of the patio area. read more

The guys were right outside the roll-up door getting their smoke on. The garage-gone-restaurant is hella fresh! The menu is insane delicious, the drinks are tasty pro tip, get the peach agua fresca with some bourbon we got barbacoa tacos, pimento mortadella sammy, and a smash burger. The place was packed when we met family there. You line up to order and get a number to have food brought to your table. Drinks good, nice margarita. There is outside and inside seating. It was a little cool and windy so we sat inside. The food....... Burgers are double meat but no lettuce or tomato or onion. Kind of like MacD kid burger. We visited this establishment this past weekend. It was not busy. Keep in mind, we were never greeted, never told the "rules" of the restaurant. We had to figure out ourselves that you had to go up and get your own menu and also go up to register to order at the bat. There are not any specific signs or anything. The food was well less than mediocre. You get two amburger patties and a bun.. you bave to ask for condiments which consist of packed amyo and ketchup. The burgers were over salted and super thin. Gypsy Sallys was the first place we tried in Leakey. It was so good we plan to go again before we leave town. We ordered the French Dip Sandwich and the Carnitas Nachos with Queso. Both were really tasty and everything had a lot of flavor. They also have beer, wine, and cocktails as well. I ordered an Old Fashioned and it was good, but like the other reviewer said it was a little small. The restaurant has a great setup - rollup garage doors to open inside to outside, covered patio outside with tvs, and a bar inside. Patio is dog friendly. read more

Avoid eating here at all costs! Seriously terrible food. 3 out 4 meals were thrown in the trash after 1 bite. The queso tasted off but was edible. The burgers and cheesesteak tasted rancid, with a really bad taste to them. Carnitas tacos were edible. I guess we should have known something was wrong when we pulled up and there was no one eating.
