There was a thread on a recent FB forum where I came across the state of the dining scene in Leakey, Texas. Crossroads to the famed Twisted Sisters roads. Experiences were posted; perhaps a timeline was established. This is for at least the car club life I live. New favorite and best of the best is Gypsy Sally's. Not hard to explain but GS puts more thought into what's offered. On the day we visited we started with a summer melon salad. Tajin, goat cheese, toasted pumpkin seeds. Wasn't visually stunning. Yet, it was most composed dish a Leakey, Texas restaurant has ever produced. Then, smash burgers and the usual side suspects from the fryer. Fine, tater tots are acceptable fare. Chicken sandwiches at the adjacent table lit up the small space with creativity. An old gas station next to a blinking light. Yes, there are flies. Consider it a favor that you're allowed weapons in the form of spining fly things for the table. One issue versus our previous visit. Bring back the amazing gumbo! read more

So delicious!!! We will not pass through the area without stopping ever again! It is an awesome vibe, and the food... crazy good. The kids said their new favorite burger and my chicken Sammy was Smokey and fried and neither one outweighed the other. Perfectly balanced and the slaw added a pop. Smooth and not too sweet Wife had a lettuce wrapped smash burger. Two patties perfectly cooked. I had the smoked chicken taco salad. Very large portion. Food was good. Very cool environment. We were there for two hours. However, that is no big deal. We weren't in a huge rush. The issue is that they loudly talked to the locals expressing frustration with how long we were there. Which isn't really fair because we were only still there due to the extensive wait time. They said "thankfully the rain is scaring them off". If you want good food, come here. If you are in a hurry, or want to feel welcome, do not come here. read more

The steaks and burgers are the best. Our families love coming here every year when we come to the Frio River. The steaks are grilled to perfection. The green sauce on the side of the steaks hit the spot. The wait time was descent and the atmosphere and service was great. read more

Umm 5 stars, hands down! The music alone was like a playlist from my personal Spotify account. My entire family absolutely loved Gypsy Sallies! It's a full bar with great food and kid friendly; I can't ask for anything more. The ambiance was so laid back and rustic but still new. The two ladies behind the bar perfectly juggled a full bar and restaurant while maintaining excellent customer service. The restaurant at 5pm was very clean and tidy. I loved the self service water station outside with plenty of seating at the bar, inside or outside. The smash burgers were amazing with slightly sweet potato rolls. My kids loved their Mac & I loved my Marg. We'll be back on the reg, for sure! read more

Holy smokes, was I happy to see this place open in Leakey; it's new to us since we skipped our usual summer vacation on the Frio for a few years. (It opened in 2022.) We went two nights in a row and can recommend some things. Don't miss: the frozen house margarita. This will bring me back to Gypsy Sally's alone. It might be one of the best margs I've ever had. It was limey, delicious, and incredibly cold (to the point of seemingly magically defying the Texas heat), without being overly sweet. The rest of the drink menu looked delicious as well but after having a frozen marg the first night, I just couldn't order anything else the second night since the marg was so good. The chili was spiced well and was authentic Texas chili with no beans. I also really enjoyed the seasonal melon salad with mint and goat cheese. The atmosphere is "Texas Cool" and makes it worth spending some time there. The pool table inside was alway busy. The wait staff were friendly and helpful. I have to give them a shout out when it comes to fixing what went wrong. We placed a large To Go order on a busy Saturday night. When we got back to our cabin we realized that all of the burgers we ordered were really overcooked to the point of being inedible. A quick call resulted in those meals being refunded. We got here and the lady at the register wasn't not very welcoming. We waited almost an hour for our food and it wasn't very busy. Finally got our food and they were missing stuff claiming we didn't order it even though it showed we paid for it. The food was not good the chicken sandwich was petrified. I do not recommend and after the experience I have no reason to come back ever. read more

Food was average and the beer (Pacifico) was $8/bottle which seemed rather unreasonable. This would not be a place I would be excited to revisit. read more

Oh MY goodness, this place!! We decided to take the scenic route home from Garner and found Gyspy on the map. We pulled into town and east to spot, the big neon eye! The guys were right outside the roll-up door getting their smoke on. The garage-gone-restaurant is hella fresh! The menu is insane delicious, the drinks are tasty pro tip, get the peach agua fresca with some bourbon we got barbacoa tacos, pimento mortadella sammy, and a smash burger. Gypsy Sally's is a new, hidden gem of a Restaurant in Leakey, TX. They offer burgers, tacos, cocktails, beers, and a good outdoor seating area. The patio is dog friendly, so feel free to bring your pup! We got the queso and guacamole for the table. Both are great and simple appetizers. I also had the chilled grilled squash salad. It is THE BEST salad that I have had in west Texas. It has grilled squash topped with goat cheese and almonds is delicious and luxurious. Would definitely get the salad again! The cocktails are good but small. The mule was good and not too strong on the ginger beer. For deals, they offer beer buckets -- buy 4 get 1 free -- and a Sunday dinner special. The best time to try something is Sunday nights. Special is served from 5PM until they run out of it. Service was fast and friendly. The only improvement I could ask for is for them to find a way to keep the evening flies out of the patio area. read more

Came in on a Saturday evening. Looked like a few hunters were there and they left after one drink. When I came in I said hello to the bartender and she just stared at me. I didn't say anything after that waiting for her response and nada. I got a Modelo bottle and a bowl of gumbo. The whole time I was there I was the only one in the place and she stayed at the end of the bar and didn't say two words. I was going to have a few beers but because she was so rude I asked for my check and she brought me the tab, it was $22 for a bowl of gumbo $12 and an $8. Modelo plus tax. read more

The place was packed when we met family there. You line up to order and get a number to have food brought to your table. Drinks good, nice margarita. There is outside and inside seating. It was a little cool and windy so we sat inside. The food....... Burgers are double meat but no lettuce or tomato or onion. Kind of like MacD kid burger. A niece had the quesadillas that I didn't like looking at. I think the place is good for an outside drink but there are better food places in town. read more

We visited this establishment this past weekend. It was not busy. Keep in mind, we were never greeted, never told the "rules" of the restaurant. We had to figure out ourselves that you had to go up and get your own menu and also go up to register to order at the bat. There are not any specific signs or anything. The food was well less than mediocre. You get two amburger patties and a bun.. you bave to ask for condiments which consist of packed amyo and ketchup. The burgers were over salted and super thin.
