The tostadas you see folded over soggy
    Mary D.

I came to this place because I seen it on Southern living magazine. The service was great. Melissa waited on us. We had order to go two of your specials $20 a plate. I don't think it's worth the money. There was only four little pieces of Carne guisada , then enchiladas ok was OK. Maybe it's the tortillas you're using that aren't holding . The beans and rice taste OK ! Tasted better. my Taco and Tostada were very so soggy. It had no crunch at all, soggy be nice to wrap in foil when you tell them to go because it's unable to pick up. And for the price, she should probably throw a tort in wrapped in foil, of course! I'm only in town for one more day thanks! Our plates seem to be microwaved the ambience was OK. I guess it's the regulars. Not worry 20 plate. Sat there for minutes to give our orders !

Felt like the whole town showed up on Tuesday at 5:30pm. We walked in and no one had ordered food as everyone just sat down. We were pretty nervous what we were running into, but there are limited restaurants open on a Tuesday in Leakey. With all that said, the folks working were great. Super courteous and kind to us. We got our food and it turned out to be pretty good! My carne guisada plate was 5/5 good. I would gladly eat that again. My daughter ordered chicken tenders and wife got street tacos. Great job to mama chole's for working through a hard situation!

Highly recommended by a local so we tried for lunch ... place was packed ... salsa is just diced tomato ... food literally not a single spice used ... we ordered Mama Plate and Salsito (going off memory) ... super bland ! So much potential

Such a fun hole in the wall restaurant! Service was fast & friendly, the food was hot and fresh, and was of great value! Their salsa comes in jugs and is SO good! It is served cold & was on the mild side. We had the carne guisada burritos and enjoyed it. My son had chicken tenders & they looked to be homemade! They were pretty big, too

The place is small but nice. You get chips and salsa. Chips were cold, which made me sad (I'm used to them being warm). And they give you a bottle of salsa, and you have to put it in the bowl yourself, which is odd but good. My husband ordered the chimichangas and loved them. I got the street tacos which weren't bad. Maybe salty but meat was juicy and all I got for toppings was cilantro, limes and diced onion. So I added salsa and was so much better. The staff was young but professional with customers.

If I weren't so hangry it would have been comical how hard we tried to find a place to eat for over an hour on a Saturday night near Garner State Park. Almost every restaurant was closed or short staffed. Alas, the heavens parted and we saw Mama Chole's. They even had an outdoor patio to enjoy a beautiful October evening. No beer or margs, but my enviro-conscious kiddo was happy they served compostable straws. The chips and salsa (served in a Tupperware type container) were on point (and so appreciated by my hard hiking crew!) We were impressed by all of the food, but mostly the carne guisada. Wish we would have ordered a larger portion. The Mama Chole platter is huge, though. You won't go home hungry. Also really enjoyed my chicken flautas. The service was slammed (likely because it was the only place within 20 miles open for dinner on a SATURDAY), but that meant we had to wait for utensils, drink refills ... The menus seemed like they could've used a good wipe-down too. Other than that, loved it.

I need to start off by saying that the food was absolutely the best Mexican food I have ever eaten. My husband agrees. And we're from the Rio Grande Valley, right next to the border, so we know Mexican food. The owners were also super attentive. If it hadn't been so busy, I'm sure they would've had a conversation with us. The place was packed. We waited outside to be able to get a table inside. Clearly this place was worth it. There was zero social distancing taking place. Some people were so eager to eat there that they would sit at tables that hadn't been cleaned yet. Speaking of cleaning, those air vents need a good deep cleaning. Now I have to be honest and say that I was so grossed out by the flies everywhere. They were outside, they were inside, and they were in the bathroom. The restroom was outside (and the trash can was overflowing.) Their "soap" was dawn dish soap with water.

    Plumbers"s plate

Plumbers plate with carne guisada and a stuffed pepper were amazing. I added Jalapeño.service was superb!

Melissa and Alexia did a phenomenal job handing our large party of 15. Food here is delicious, especially the carne guisada

Great food and good salsa (skip the queso). Service a family owned business is always a joy. Will be back on our next trip!

Great place for Tex-mex. We arrived at the end of the lunch rush. Despite a full house, service was fast and friendly.

I'm sure it was very overwhelming for the sweet lady who was working that day. Another young lady came in to help. Kudos to them AND the cook! Wow --YUM!! The food was so good!! Migas, huevos rancheros, refried beans, pancakes and thick bacon were among the favorites of the amazing items we ordered. ALSO, the breakfast tacos were massive & delicious!! Highly recommend stopping here! Thank you for accommodating our family during the flooding on Monday !

The pancakes were fluffy and light. The ham was a nice thick cut that they seared well. I also requested sugar-free syrup and they had some available. My husband ordered Lala's Sampler and it included a little bit of everything. A small cup of menudo, barbacoa, huevos rancheros, a side of bacon, and potatoes. My husband said it was delicious. So why am I not giving it 5 stars? I'm very selective and it's not the best I've ever had. However, it was delicious and if you're in the small town of Leakey and want something satisfying, don't overlook this place. It's not much to look at from outside, but the food is good. Definitely recommend.
