You know how it is...you say no tomatoes but someone puts them on your taco and chalupa anyway. I was the only one who ate something that had lettuce on it there at lunch and became very ill that night. Missed a hunting trip the next morning because I was living in the bathroom. So while the food was good getting sick was not. And no I hadn't eaten anything anywhere else that day. We'll be back, the food is too good not to. Two stars just because of bad lettuce. read more

I came to this place because I seen it on Southern living magazine. The service was great. Melissa waited on us. We had order to go two of your specials $20 a plate. I don't think it's worth the money. There was only four little pieces of Carne guisada , then enchiladas ok was OK. Maybe it's the tortillas you're using that aren't holding . The beans and rice taste OK ! Tasted better. my Taco and Tostada were very so soggy. It had no crunch at all, soggy be nice to wrap in foil when you tell them to go because it's unable to pick up. And for the price, she should probably throw a tort in wrapped in foil, of course! I'm only in town for one more day thanks! Our plates seem to be microwaved the ambience was OK. I was super hungry so I ate it all ‍ the tortilla was the best thing. Cheese enchiladas had American cheese or something like it. The whole plate and its sauces had a hint of dirty mop water. HOW This place got best of the frío I'll never know. Is everyone who voted an import who isn't familiar with Mexican food or Tex Mex? Felt like the whole town showed up on Tuesday at 5:30pm. We walked in and no one had ordered food as everyone just sat down. We were pretty nervous what we were running into, but there are limited restaurants open on a Tuesday in Leakey. With all that said, the folks working were great. Super courteous and kind to us. We got our food and it turned out to be pretty good! My carne guisada plate was 5/5 good. I would gladly eat that again. My daughter ordered chicken tenders and wife got street tacos. My husband and I went to Garner State Park and stopped in at this place for dinner in Leaky because it was the only place open. We ordered Alma's Bean dip, a quesadilla and a taco. The food was ok. The service wasnt anything to write home about. The place is pet friendly which is why I gave it a 2 star. The place is small but nice. You get chips and salsa. Chips were cold, which made me sad (I'm used to them being warm). And they give you a bottle of salsa, and you have to put it in the bowl yourself, which is odd but good. My husband ordered the chimichangas and loved them. I got the street tacos which weren't bad. If I weren't so hangry it would have been comical how hard we tried to find a place to eat for over an hour on a Saturday night near Garner State Park. Almost every restaurant was closed or short staffed. Alas, the heavens parted and we saw Mama Chole's. They even had an outdoor patio to enjoy a beautiful October evening. No beer or margs, but my enviro-conscious kiddo was happy they served compostable straws. The chips and salsa (served in a Tupperware type container) were on point (and so appreciated by my hard hiking crew!) We were impressed by all of the food, but mostly the carne guisada. Wish we would have ordered a larger portion. The Mama Chole platter is huge, though. You won't go home hungry. Also really enjoyed my chicken flautas. And we're from the Rio Grande Valley, right next to the border, so we know Mexican food. The owners were also super attentive. Mama Chloe's is one of those little "hole in the wall" restaurants that you don't expect much of but that can prove to be quite enjoyable if you're prepared to check your big city expectations and pretensions at the front door. This was my first time at Mama Chole's, but I was brought in by some regulars. There is not much competition for good Mexican food in Leakey, but Mama Chole's is a solid option even for out-of-towners! The service was fast and the food was good - everything was made fresh and worth the wait. I was a fan of the guacamole. They give you a healthy bowl with a pile of chips. Yum! Next I had the street tacos - the meat was tender and juicy and the tortilla perfectly crispy. I finished with the sopapilla which reminded me more of a donut, but was still cinnamon sugar goodness. My only critique would be the chips - they varied a lot basket to basket. Our first basket was overcooked and had no flavor, but the rest were a lot better. Most of them were good though. read more

I took a quick road trip out to Lost Maples and then over to Leakey for a bite to eat before heading back home. There were a few options to chose from during the time I came to town and man am I glad I went with Mama Chloe's! I was greeted as soon as I stepped through the front door. I came in a little later in the afternoon so it was pretty quiet inside. They have seating both inside and out on the patio. I can see the place filling up quickly for dinner and supper. Fresh chips and salsa are provided complimentary. The salsa was soo good. It reminds me of the salsa my sister makes. It has a thicker consistency, low heat and full of flavor. The salsa is brought out in a realizable container with a spout so you can fill the serving bowl to your desired level. I am a big fan of this style as you do not have to wait for the server to refresh the bowl if you consume it all like most places. I fell in love with the chicken enchiladas. They were so creamy and overflowing with deliciousness. Not to mention that the entire entree was piping hot allowing for a warm bite from start to finish.
