On our drive home from camping at Seminole Canyon SP, we were starving and needed some food. Found this place and heard the chicken fried steak was the meal to get at this little place. Walked in and enjoyed a seat by the window. Not much vegetarian options for my friend, but his son got a double burger and I got the chicken fried steak. My friend didn't think I could eat it all and after the first bite, it was challenge accepted. Got to talking to the waiter and he mentioned they buy their meat locally and you could tell it was a good piece battered and fried. I got 2 sunny side eggs with it to soak up the plate and I do have to say this was the best CFS that I have had in a long time. I also got a Menudo to go as I was eating, but they forgot to put the order in and in the rush, the top lid cracked and it leaked out on way home. This was a bummer, since I was hoping to have it the next day before work. Besides this mess, I really recommend this place. read more

Driving through Uvalde and I am so glad we stopped at Sunrise. The food and service were exceptional. The buttermilk pie was as good as my grandmother's. Great breakfast restaurant! I stopped by Uvalde on my way to visit my brother and his family in Houston. Paid my respects to the Uvalde Robb Elementary Memorial and stopped in for breakfast. The coffee was hot and delicious and the friendly staff recommended the Country Boy platter (eggs, sausage gravy biscuits, and hashbrowns) and it was delicious. But most of all, the diner is warm and inviting and made a stranger feel at home. Highly recommend Sunrise Restaurant! read more

We dropped in on our way through town. We tried the Cruzzer Special and pancake and eggs. The cruzzer special is essentially machaca and it's absolutely delicious, the tortillas served with it are fresh. I highly recommend this order. My kid seemed to enjoy the pancake plate . The fresh green salsa was delicious . This place took a little time, I think they are short staffed. But other than how long it took, absolutely recommend a stop in for breakfast. read more

We were traveling to Big Bend with two other couples. The plan was to stop at a place the other couples were fond of, but it was closed. I don't know how the lead car came up with this place, but it was a good choice. I had the migas plate. It was everything you would expect in a migas plate. I also had coffee which was very good. I really wanted poached eggs like in some of these pictures but when I called about it, they had no idea what I was talking about so I'm not sure if these might be old pictures. Asked for where I can find a menu online and they directed me to someone's private Facebook page that still had no menu. read more

The food was okay. The waitress was nice. We had chicken fried steak and a hamburger and fries, along with onion rings. We enjoyed the decor of the flag and nice wool blankets, and Christmas lights. The issue was cleanliness. Employees sneezed while filling up the individual sauce cups. They had no masks on. The ketchup containers were put back in the fridge but not disinfected or wiped down even first. The waitress also didn't disinfect the tables, but just wiped them down with the same rag used on other tables with no disinfectant spray. read more

I had the Farmers Omelet. It comes with bacon, onions, bell peppers, tomatoes & cheese. I got mine without the cheese. There was bacon in every bite and abundant vegetables. The scoop of potatoes looked a little small on the plate, but it really was the right amount. They were about 1/2" cubes, with a nice chewy texture outside and soft inside, just how I like them. Toast was lightly browned without any butter on it, making it perfect. It was a good amount of food. My wife had the 2 eggs with a pancake and sausage patties. Her sunny-side-up eggs were cooked to perfection with firm whites and runny yellows. The pancake was a generous size, and the 2 sausage patties were browned perfectly. The waitress was friendly and attentive, checking with us every time she walked by. 15 tables, about 1/3 full, with 2 waitresses. Kelly was the only female customer when we arrived, the rest were working men. A pair of ladies arrived after a little while and took their own table. The restroom is just a single toilet, unisex, old and worn, but spotlessly cleaned with plenty of paper towels and soap for your hands. This was a good experience, and we will definitely return if we come through Uvalde again. They did have a salad bar (empty now as we are part of the breakfast crowd on a Wednesday morning). They have 2 daily specials for lunch written on the white board and the Soup of the Day says Creamy Chicken Vegetable - makes me wish we were staying for lunch, too! Sign on the front window says "No cameras or recording devices." Tho, with food this good, they should take down the sign! read more

We were driving through Uvalde and decided to stop for lunch at the Sunrise Cafe. So glad we did. The cafe is clean and neat. The staff is very friendly and the food was very good. I had a lunch special...chicken fried steak that came with yummy green beans, mashed potatoes, a roll and a piece of chocolate cake. Everything tasted good and homemade. Sunrises chicken fried steak are the best I had a big chicken fried steak the other day and they just keep getting bigger ! The waitress were absolutely attentive check on us every time they passed! On Thursday they have chicken fried steak as a lunch special option it is served with mash potato and green beans along with the tea and dessert include only for 8.75 now that's a great deal! The place was very cleaned and such a great place to be. Everyone was happy and the watiress were laughing with their customers and there fresh salad bar was absolutely amazing I will definitely come back! Glad we stopped here! 2 of us had the fried chicken breast and 2 of us had the chopped steak lunch specials, which came with mashed potatoes, green beans, a drink and dessert! Everything was very good. The mashed potatoes were real and had great flavor and the green beans were delicious. They had tomatoes and onions in them, I could've eaten a big bowl of them!
