I do not know any other boba spots with mini boba except for Lollicup. I am obsessed with the mini boba. The texture is better than the regular sized boba in my opinion. So whenever I'm in the mood for boba and lollicup is nearby I like coming here for the wintermelon juice with less sugar, less ice, and double the serving of mini boba. I like this location because they have a nice little outdoor seating that's covered and shaded. We used to cater a lot of boba milk tea from here for fundraisers. I laugh at how much students used to swarm to get one. Drinking it made you cool. Since the last time I've visited, which has to be at least 4 years, they've expanded their menu selection, added game machines, decorated their syrup bottles with cute and lovely drawings, and have a team of warm workers who were knew the menu thoroughly to give me and my friend personalized recommendations. I haven't seen or been to one in 15 years... but I had an insane craving for a slush drink a few days ago, and headed straight to Yelp to see if they were still around and if there was one nearby. Surprise! It was located about 15 minutes from where I was. I ordered the Rainbow Fruit Slush; it hit the spot perfectly on a summer afternoon. i've been here many times already and really enjoy this boba shop! you can customize how sugary you want your drink to be and there are mini claw machines in the back. not the focus but i wouldn't waste my money on them since the claw is very weak. i usually get the brown sugar milk tea with 75% sugar and it tastes fantastic. the boba isn't soggy but perfectly chewy and the milk tea is basic but i like it like that. the churros here are sweet and warm, i really like the gooey, cream filling! there's also board games on the counter but not sure if customers are allowed to use them since i've never asked. overall it's a perfect place to go to after dinner read more

The only reasons you should still be going to Lollicup are it's either 1. nostalgic, as you spent most of middle/high school as an Irvine student meeting friends here, 2. the only nearby boba place (7 Leaves is a 3-min walk, so that's not the case here), 3. you're there for the food, like the Twist potato or chicken, or 4. you have kids who don't have discerning boba taste buds, & the toy machines & mini-lake are the best ways to keep them happy (If that's the case, you go, momma!) -Otherwise... frankly, there are too many alternatives to Lollicup within spitting distance of this location, or really anywhere in Irvine, that serve ridiculously higher quality drinks. 7 Leaves is 2-3 mins walking. The center across the street has more boba shops. & within 3 miles I'm sure there are maybe 10 more. If you aren't picky & want a low price, Lollicup is probably your place, & if you enroll in their rewards program, you can actually get free items once in a while even if you rarely go. I'm by no means a boba snob, IDK good matcha or types of boba jellies & whatnot, but tea taste & flavor is easy to differentiate. Being that many boba places now charge $6-7 for a drink w boba anyway, I may as well go somewhere where I'll love my drink. -I'm happy spending that much when I know I will truly savor every sip of the complex waltz that is my creamy strawberry boba. A delicate balance of velvety cream & subtle tart strawberry. Combining the two creates a symphony of flavor, unexpected yet familiar - the thickness of the tart, pulpy strawberry swirls into the luscious, light, & rich sweet cream - resulting in each sip being pillowy on my tongue, with chewy, juicy strawberry morsels an unexpected but welcome guest on my palette. Each sip makes its grand exit with a chewy pop of boba pearl, intense with its deep brown sugar complexities, the accompanying perfection lingering on my taste buds. Doesn't that sound worth your money, versus how many pumps of syrup you want added to your green tea? I went to Lollicup for the longest time, mostly because it was close, & I knew what I liked. When I finally started trying new places, my mind was blown. Drinks that I could taste real fruit, real tea? Not just sugary syrup? I didn't even think I'd taste such a drastic difference! Unfortunately, Lollicup simply mixes a bunch of different syrups to make their flavors, & while I'm sure many places do this, Lollicup make no effort whatsoever to hide it. In the prep area, bottles of syrup line the shelves, the drinks have no fruit bits to them, & they offer any infinite number of customizations & switches to their menu, further proof that your drink is just whatever syrups you wish for them to throw in your base green or black tea. One of my fam members recently went & asked, a bit naively, about the sugar content in the drinks, & was told by a staff member that the sugar content would just be how much flavored syrup is pumped into your drink. Want less sugar? You get less flavor. Don't get me wrong, I've never had a bad experience at Lollicup, & I still go when I'm at that center - but I go for the Twist Potatoes, & the fact that I can customize wacky drink flavors for multiple picky family members. So, if you're catering to kids or a large crowd, perhaps this is the preferred place. Plus, they have those toy machines. The redeeming products are the Twist potatoes, which I love & are hard to find elsewhere, although I've noticed the last few times I've ordered them, they don't taste as good as they used to. I think they used to be cut thinner, making them more crispy when cooked. They've added flavorings over the years, besides spice level, like sour cream n onion, queso, or sweet chili, but I've found only the original/changing the spice level is the only change that works. They are made to order, so expect to wait a few extra minutes, but absolutely eat it once you get it. A cold, twisted potato whose heat has been lost, only to become sad steam in a half paper bag, is a surprisingly sorrier sight than one would think. These do not travel well, even if it's the less than 5 min drive home to drop them off to your parents. Trust. The churros are also surprisingly good - but very sweet - they're filled with sweet cream along w the outer sugar dusting. I'm vegetarian, so I can't personally speak to this, but I've heard from everyone that the popcorn chicken here can't be beat. Back in those middle school days, I had friends who came along, skipped a boba but ordered 3 popcorn chickens. Even 3 weeks ago I ran into someone who lived an hour away. When I incredulously asked what he was doing in Irvine, & then why at Lollicup when in Irvine you have a plethora of boba selections, he said he came for the popcorn chicken on his way down to San Diego. Actions speak for themselves, I suppose. They've redone the outside seating to include much more comfortable, inviting, bright patio couches, aesthetically pleasing & great for big groups. read more

I've tried several flavors and they are all great, my favorite Hot Taro milk, extra highly suggested it, my friends always prefer mine when I let them try, just make sure you ask 25-50% sugar cause it's sooo sweet, Service from all the girls working there are amazing, they know the term customer service well and all the staff is excellent, I hope no one forgets to tip them. Very disappointing. There must have been a change of ownership or staff because once upon a time this place was pretty good but now it's awful. Yesterday I ordered two taro slushes with boba and asked for 70% sugar in the drinks. I made the mistake of not trying it when I was there but on the drive home I started drinking it and could taste that it wasn't very sweet. I looked at the drink and it said 50% sugar and I was 100% sure I asked them for 70% sweetness. By the time I saw this I was too far away to drive back and ask for another one. There's other drink shops in this plaza like 7Leaves, Happy Lemon, Bambu but I decided to go to Lollicup because it reminded me of my college years when we had several in San Diego. Now there's only one Chula Vista which is way south for me. I got the Almond Milk Tea. For some reason it tasted like the Soy Bean Drink that you get in the little juice box from the Supermarkets. It was good but I didn't get the "tea" strength that I normally would get at DingTea or KungFu Tea. I like coming here for their papaya milk boba shake. They always make it fresh and it taste good. Only downside is it's from powder and not from real papayas. Overall still good. Been going to this Lollicup location over the years. Usually it's after a late night workout/basketball with my buddies. It's great that they are open until 11PM (later than SOMA and YiFang), which is later than most drink shops (besides 7 Leaves) in the area. Combos are a great deal at this place if you are a fan of twist potato (fried potato on a skewer) or popcorn chicken (taiwanese style). You can also pay a bit more to switch the drink to another option. In recent months though, the popcorn chicken is inconsistent in terms of crispiness and flavor. But this may be because I go in so late at night. Popcorn Chicken - 4/5 on the good days, 3/5 on the bad Rainbow Fruit Slush - 4/5 This blended drink is refreshing and my favorite. It's got a mixture of strawberry, mango, and peach. Classic Milk Tea, Thai Iced Tea, Taro Milk Tea - 3.5/5. Can't go wrong with these standard picks. But the drinks are usually really sweet and similar in quality to powder based ones. Their service is always efficient and the workers have always been nice. I came here a few years back and the drinks were not the same as the experience I had at the other location off Jamboree (R.I.P. to my favorite Lollicup). I get tea on a weekly basis, but unfortunately this spot never made it into my rotation. Today I finally went back to give this place another chance. It was around 4:45pm and they were completely closed! Like chairs upside down, lights off, nothing going on closed. I wish they had a sign or some notice online because I don't live close by. I tried this location out after my favorite location at Diamond Jamboree closed and I'm sad to report that this location won't be taking its place as a new favorite. They have a good variety of drinks here and the staff was nice. Another plus was the boba was good. Not too rock hard nor too mushy. However the milk tea left something to be desired I could taste the tea leaf granules in my drink like it wasn't totally filtered. Also there was a lot of froth on top. Another plus done may like is that they serve food here and parking was fairly easy (at the corner of Jeffrey by the 5 fwy off ramp). However I come here purely for the milk tea and the milk tea here (I ordered 2 different ones to compare : green and black) taste just doesn't even come close to Diamond Jamboree Lollicup. Super nostalgic. I would go to Lollicup all the time when I was little, when they were one of the first franchises. I remember redeeming free drinks after filling out my stamp cards and paying in cash to avoid their credit card surcharges. The competition has grown considerably over the years, but I'm glad they are taking steps to revamp their brand and position themselves with the more trendy tea shops. Variety - The new menu looks a bit consolidated, but the amount of ingredients and customizations is endless. From slushies to smoothies to frappes, the hardest part is choosing which flavor to get. If you're not a fan of milk tea, you can choose a green tea or black tea base instead. Keeping up with the times - Looking at a map I see two Omomo locations two miles away, Sunright/Redstraw within one mile, and 7 Leaves in the same plaza. Irvine is truly the land of milk tea and honey boba... if these are your neighbors, I think it's pretty important to stay fresh and relevant. Recently Lollicup did some work on their interior, with a more modern look and inviting atmosphere. And while it's sad to see that they "retired" some menu options, it's cool to see new ones like Dalgona Milk Tea or Brown Sugar Milk. For those who prefer the classics, you can still get Thai Tea, Taro, Jasmine Milk Tea, etc. Price - Toppings (boba, jellies, egg pudding) are 50 cents. Tax is already included, which is a plus in my book. I'm not a UCI student, but their $2 boba on Ring Road is pretty infamous. But the price has definitely gone up, and it's in line with other milk tea places. Tapioca Quality - Mediocre. Horrible texture, not that pleasant to chew, and broken bits at the bottom. Which is a shame since the milk tea was pretty good. Haven't tried their twist potato or popcorn chicken yet!
