Experienced Local Roots last night for the first time this season. It was very busy (as to be expected) but they didn't miss a beat. We got lucky and got a great table and then the sweetest server named Ava. Just had dinner and drinks at the outside bar. The service, food, and music is outstanding. Our bartender Bailey was polite and we never had to ask for a drink and the wait for food was minimal. She was always there to help us before we could ask. Just had a burger that was perfectly cooked. The band was a "cherry on top". We will be back. Hope to have the same server when we return. We've eaten here 2 times and was never overwhelmed but thought we would give it one more try. Did takeout and it was horrible. We ordered a Reubens and fries, Irish cabbage, banger and potatoes, and a loaf of bread. Part of the problem is the packaging. It left the bread soggy and the food cold. Great local spot in Powell. Everything is farm to table and they source ingredients locally, including from their farm. The bruschetta is wonderful - loaded with fresh tomatoes and drizzled with an excellent balsamic vinegar glaze and olive oil. We made reservations and were promptly seated upon arrival. Our server was very friendly and attentive. Our cups never went dry and the restaurant was clean. The food we had was delicious and like most new places we visit, we ordered quite a variety. The only thing we wouldn't recommend is the lemon chicken. It was very bland and not what we expected. I love this place. Never a bad meal and service is always top notch. Tonight we were in for dinner and their computer system crashed right after we ordered. Our server, JR, apologized and let us know that our meal would be a little delayed. He wasn't wrong. We waited a good 30 min for our meal but JR made sure to stop over and make sure our drinks were full and we were having a good time. Unfortunately some of the other guests were irritated with the delay and made sure everyone knew. Another server, Alec was busting his ass to try and accommodate his tables but wasn't having any luck. He took every complaint in stride and the smile never left his face. Well this place was an amazing find, I wish I remembered our servers name who was so kind and informative! The local roots restaurant had a delicious smell when driving into this little town , which drove us to have to stop in. The specials made me a little nervous with the pricing but everything else was priced phenomenally! Like the wings were a steal! 12 Jumbo hot wings for $11.00 , which is amazing! They were delicious as well, then the butternut soup was huge and served 2 people for less then 10$ . The calzone was easily a meal for 4 or you have awesome leftovers! Of all my Ohio restaurants this by far was the best food I had, and if they had a location in Texas I would very highly recommend to everyone as well as be a regular if not working there just because the environment even was so classy and welcoming but casual and relaxing! Every few years I give this place another try. I will wait a few more years, if ever, before I try again. Mediocre food is being generous. 3 strikes and you are OUT. Such a neat place! Decently busy for a Monday night. Clean. Service was good. Some really fun appetizers, but we chose not to get one. I ordered the loaded burger that had goat cheese and jam. I loved it and the idea of it, but I ordered it medium and it was definitely well done. An over cooked burger is always such a disappointment.. I think it would've been perfect if it was a little more moist! Couldn't rave more about the fries, taste and texture wise, but they were probably room temp when they hit the table. A lot of cool local options on tap. Our bartender overheard us talking about the Boat Show from Yellow Springs and sold us on it. Nicely done. My friend ordered the lemon chicken and enjoyed it, but I felt it was a bit dry. Potatoes were delicious! Overall, a good experience and nice wait staff. Love the location of this place, as well. I think my first trip was a random miss. A girlfriend wanted to meet here for lunch and I had the spinach salad with salmon. Salad was fresh, house made citrus dressing was divine and the salmon was cooked to buttery perfection. Since my lunch date I've returned for many great meals! read more

I've had good and bad experiences here, but this last one was delicious and the service was wonderful; we sat outside on the patio, which I was unaware even existed, and it was absolutely beautiful and breezy, and perfectly covered from the heat of the day. The food options were wonderful, especially for an afternoon lunch time. the sandwich and soup/salad combo was a perfect amount of food and was very well put together, and delicious. And we had the homemade chip appetizer, which was just wonderful. I love that they use local ingredients and stay true to the reason behind their name. I can't believe that I haven't raved about this place yet. This is my local watering hole. I am here almost once a week and I can't get enough. The food is absolutely amazing, and every week they have a feature menu of new and limited items to try. It is all so fresh and they have options for everyone. I usually order the Chopped Up salad, because it's delicious and healthy, but I've never had a bad thing on the menu. The pretzel bites appetizer is absolutely divine, I highly recommend. They have great Buffalo cauliflower, build your own pizza and their burgers are awesome. They have a huge drink list (both beer and wine) and a full bar. The service is always great. My only complaint is with covid right now they are really stingy with your time frame you are allowed to sit for, it barely gives time to visit with friends/family. Last night, my friend and I went to the zoo lights and so I looked for a place on yelp that was close by. When we arrived it was around 5:30 PM on a Sunday and it was packed. The front desk asked if we had a reservation which was not an issue because they still sat us. They have a happy hour special every day until 6 PM which was great because there are drink specials and appetizer specials. I'm obsessed with food so I had to get two appetizers. I ordered both the bruschetta and the pretzel rolls and they were both amazing. For my main entrée, I was in between a Reuben and my waitress recommended the loaded hamburger which I ended up getting. My waitress made my hamburger sound so good that I had to get it. The hamburger came with fresh goat cheese on it which made the hamburger the best I've had in a while. I love that this restaurant gets their ingredients from a local farm. It is very awesome that there is a farm to table so close to my house. My only questionable thing about the restaurant was that my friend wanted the takeout option as his meal and they said they didn't have time to make it for one person. They had a lobster macaroni and cheese on the menu but could not make a chicken one which seemed weird. I could not stop looking at the menu because there were so many options and I cannot wait to go back as my friend is a vegetarian and she is very excited to try the black bean burger. It has a pretty good happy hour. They take a buck off of the wells. I had a gin and tonic. It's about $3 at happy hour. The main attraction is the food and how everything is local. This is light but full of flavor from the beans and tomatoes. It doesn't seem to be that busy. It was even a weekend and there was hardly anyone. There is a bar where you can wait for your table, which is very appropriate since the place is usually packed, and you would have to wait for around 30 minutes to sit. I've been to Local Roots a couple times, as it seems to be a favorite in Downtown Powell. The atmosphere is beautiful. The staff are all attentive and very nice. The food is fresh, good, and plated beautifully. However, I've just never been "wowed" by the flavors of something I've eaten (for the price), which is why I can't give it 5 stars. Actually, there is something that has wowed me... the buffalo chicken dip. That stuff is delicious. The last time I came in it was a very pleasant experience overall. They got us in to our table 10 minutes later than the reservation on a busy Friday night (which was honestly ok because Powell has DORA) and they gave us a free appetizer of our choice and were very apologetic. They also weren't upset about us staying until closing to finish our food. Overall, a nice experience, good food, little pricey. read more

I'd come back just to look around more. There were 4 of us in the party. And we came a bit staggered and they didn't mind. That was nice. But they do time you here. You get 90 mins to eat and socialize then your out. I find that a bit off putting. I get it but it's still off putting to be told you are being timed. That's why 4 stars. Server was nice enough. She checked back and that was good. Menu is pretty extensive. Lots of salads, apps, entrees, sandwiches. I saw a lot that I wanted to try We went with the veggie pizza but changed the sauce from pesto to regular pizza sauce. Not a huge pesto fan. And that was no problem. The pizza was good. Generous toppings. We also got the chipotle honey hummus which was really good. And the Mediterranean salad which was a hit too. But on to the real star of the show, the Smoked Salmon Salad from the feature items menu. It was very fresh, unique and delicious.
