Shady Legs cocktail
Marlene K.

We arrived without a reservation on a Friday around 4pm and were told that they usually expect reservations for parties of 6, so we'll have to remember that for next time. There was a reservation for the 7-top table we were seated at, at 6pm and we were told that might be cutting it too close because they like to allow over 2 hours for a "large" party of six. They seated us anyway, but the vibe was that we needed to understand that we had a limited time. Since we were not having a celebration, we were pretty certain that we wouldn't take two hours to eat. That all seemed super odd to us and we kind of joked with each other about it during the meal. Spoiler alert: we were out in about an hour. I ordered the Shady Legs seasonal specialty cocktail. It had a cucumber soda water and a berry infused vodka and berry simple syrup. It came decorated cute with a flamingo toothpick, but I had to open my own umbrella on it, lol. It was unremarkable and the other person that ordered it agreed. The table shared the Buffalo Cauliflower and Honey Ginger Soy Cauliflower wings. Both were delicious and made just right to not be too raw or too mushy. I and another person got the Sweet Potato Noodles and they were very good and we both agreed we'd order that again. However, we both agreed that we thought it came with actual "noodles" made from sweet potatoes and were not expecting spiralized sweet potatoes. That didn't ruin the meal, because fortunately they were just the right consistency, Everyone seemed to enjoy their meals, but both people wondered the Chickpea Curry said they thought it needed more sauce. As I said, we, with our "large" party were in and out in about an hour, so crisis diverted with the reservation for our table after we left.

Nice place. We sat at the bar (it seems to be a theme) and had a great bartender. We ordered the Margarita pizza with cauliflower crust. So good. We have a few slices and finished the rest at home. The bartop is really beautiful. I have been here before, for a work group happy hour, and again happy hour with Gwen W. It's been awhile, and I'd like to come back.

Friendly & efficient service. My friend and I both enjoyed our meals. I ordered the chickpea curry and my friend the spinach salad. I loved my curry. I actually had to salt it a bit which was good because often/usually restaurant food is too salty for me and this was not.

An honest review. Love the farm to table concept, I'm sure because of the location, that's why prices are somewhat inflated. Got the chicken wings with the Jamaican dry rub. Way over-fried with the meat so tough because they were so overdone. Salmon was done well. Spaghetti squash was perfect. Pizza was underwhelming. Crust was not great. Pretty dry, maybe could have used more sauce. Probably last time for me. We were with a group of 8 people so felt bad saying anything so that's on me but really just wanted to go and enjoy company with friends with good food. Unfortunately somewhat of a miss for us.

Local roots is lovely, love this place so much but this time the food wasn't what I expected. They had this Thai curry on the menu and decided to try it, I added some grilled chicken and either the curry or the chicken had any flavor. I'm not trying to hurt the business here, because I know this place is amazing, but this time didn't shine food wise. I'll come back and order that I know they exceed expectations. Come to this local business and show them some love. The service is always good and you'll feel cozy and comfortable every time.

Pleasantly surprised by this place! It's been on my list to try but I never make it up to Powell. We were coming back from Akron and decided to stop in for a later dinner. Our server was super helpful and on it. Since it was a later dinner I didn't want a full meal so we just got the pretzel rolls as an appetizer and I got the chopped salad. Both were so so good! And the chopped salad was definitely still a full meal. Portion was good size. Also my bf got the bison burger which he enjoyed.

We decided to stop here after a long day at the zoo, booking a reservation online was super easy. We were sat immediately and the hostesses were very nice. There was a little basket next to the host stand that had some kids books and dinosaur toys in them. On top of them letting my son bring a couple of books to the table, they dropped off a tin lunch box that had some old happy meal toys, blocks, and little toys in it. This is such a thoughtful touch, I really can't emphasize enough how much I loved how kid-friendly our experience was. Our server, and I wish I could remember his name to praise him specifically, was so attentive and pleasant. He would get down to eye level to talk to my son and was so unbothered when the kids pizza wasn't a hit and we wanted to swap for tenders. A true 10/10 service I got the hot honey pizza, it was kind of hard to eat without making a mess but it was delicious. I ended up eating it with a fork and knife, and the pizza was so substantial that I was full after a single slice. Overall this was a really great dining experience and will probably become my new after zoo tradition.

Steak salad was very good. Patio has a good vibe and band was ok.

Always great food and the patio provides a very cool environment and the service is always top-notch.

Kitchen Sink salad

Great local restaurant, farm to table restaurant, with a full bar and a short, mostly domestic wine list. The Lamb Lollipops melt in the mouth, but are unseasoned; try them with the included slightly sweet, with a hint of smoke jam. The salads are excellent, including the Caesar and the Kitchen Sink, try them with grilled chicken. The Caesar has a little bite. Service was excellent; the kitchen is a little slow. The Carrot Cake is very good too, we just wish it was served warm.

I'm so sorry I didn't take more photos but the food was good I couldn't stop myself! I Was blown away by the food, the service and the atmosphere. We will be back any chance we get. We got the hummus, cauliflower, the vegan pizza and the black bean burger. All vegan. Amazing!!!

Large Calzone with portobello mushrooms and pizza sauce

Nice lunch today on the covered patio! Great, friendly service (shout out to Chuck!) and it was quiet because it was just after 2 pm. Really had hoped for a pick 2 half sandwich, half soup but they only offer it until 2pm (it was 2:12pm) which was a bit disappointing but oh well. We got a BLT with fries (so good - esp the fries!) and a mushroom calzone (huge!) There we're a bunch of wayward bees on the patio, but that's pretty normal for outside this time of year. All in all happy with our lunch and will be back. It wasn't freak-out spectacular, but it was super solid and they are pretty consistently good. My favorite part of Local Roots is the covered patio on a gorgeous day. I'd love to see a few more small plate options on the regular menu that aren't just salads or apps. Even a tapas or "shareables" menu would be pretty great!

Went here for lunch on Sunday with some friends. We got a table right away. They all got the chicken & waffles special and seemed to love it. I got the BLT sandwich and sweet potato fries. The fries were so good!! Get them!! I'd love to come back and check out more of their dishes that are all farm to table!

Rustic Bruschetta Pretzel Rolls
Cassandra R.

Stoped in on a Friday night for happy hour with a group of friends for the first time and what a great spot! We sat on the covered patio (very cute though the fans weren't working super great so still warm), and were able to make a reservation in advance so we didn't have to worry about getting a table. The happy hour deal was fantastic and the food was incredible. The fresh tomatoes on the bruschetta were so delicious we all would have ate just those! And the pretzel rolls and cheese/bacon dip combo (which is also on the fries) were great. Will definitely be back!

For 15$ I Never had fries this way but it certainly didn't disappoint and was very interesting. Everyone decided on burgers. Two of us got the French onion burger and two of us got the All American Burger. The French onion burger consisted of very very caramelized onions, three different cheeses, mayonnaise, lettuce, tomato and a toasted bun with butter accompanied by french fries. The caramelized onions were so creamy and tasty. It really brought the whole burger together. The All-American Burger consisted of grilled onions, American cheese, a special sauce, bacon, lettuce, tomato on a buttered toasted bun with fries. The burgers were pretty big in patty size and we all finished our food with no problems. I'm glad we came here instead of spending over 100$ on 3 meals at the zoo!!

While we had a reservation at 8:45, we decided to eat in at the bar after having the most incredible espresso martini of our lives and talking to John. My sister and I opted to share multiple courses - each of which was better than the last. It was an amazing experience and we were lucky enough to compliment and thank the executive chef in person. While there were a few minor service issues, our server was kind and attentive and acknowledged the celebration with complimentary desserts, which we truly appreciated. After dinner, my cousin and I went to wash our hands and use the restroom. At the time, all stalls were occupied and one was out of service, so we waited. When a stall opened, my cousin kindly let me go first. I finished and stood outside the stalls waiting for her for about three minutes. During that time, I noticed several people going in and out of the restroom area. I also saw a man sitting in a chair along the hallway wall near the stalls, hunched over. Shortly after, a woman exited the restroom and grabbed him to leave. I thought nothing of it and minded my own business. I also observed the executive chef enter one of the restroom stalls. When my cousin exited, she mentioned that the stall smelled strongly of smoke and that three girls had exited the stall before she entered. She said the stall smelled like marijuana but used it only because it was the only option available. She also pointed out that the man sitting outside appeared to be associated with the group who had been in the stall. We then returned to our patio table where our family was seated. Our server brought out her birthday pie along with another complimentary dessert. She blew out the candle, we shared dessert, and we began preparing to leave. A few minutes later, while we were still seated on the patio, the general manager, Nick Krafft, approached our table accompanied by Executive Chef Michael Wagner. We initially assumed he was checking in on our experience. Instead, he immediately stated, "I'm going to have to ask you not to smoke in our restaurant and bathroom," directing the accusation at my cousin and me. We were completely taken aback by both the accusation and the manner in which it was delivered. We calmly explained that it was not us and described exactly what we had observed in the restroom. We stated that neither of us smoke and never have. We even offered to have our belongings checked and explained that we had not taken any jackets or purses with us to the restroom, as our family remained at the table. Despite this, the general manager refused to listen or consider our explanation and continued to place blame on us. He did not speak to our server, who had interacted with us just moments earlier while bringing out the birthday dessert, nor did he attempt to investigate further or de-escalate the situation. As we were leaving, my fiancé asked the general manager if he actually smelled smoke on either of us. He responded "yes," which was not true, and continued to push a conclusion he had already formed. No apology was offered. We spent over $1,000 celebrating a family birthday at a restaurant we had trusted and enjoyed in the past. Instead, the evening ended with my cousin's birthday being overshadowed by an unfounded accusation. There were many guests dining that evening, yet blame was placed solely on two women who had simply used the restroom. I am a Nurse Practitioner, and my cousin is a special education teacher for autistic children. Neither of us have ever smoked. Being accused in this manner was humiliating, hurtful, and completely unnecessary. I was later contacted by the regional manager, who was understanding. However, I believe this situation highlights the need for better investigation, accountability, and staff training to prevent similar experiences in the future. A personal apology from Nick, acknowledging his actions and taking accountability, would be an appropriate step forward after innocent guests were wrongly blamed and a birthday celebration was ruined.
