We waited to order. We waited longer for the food. How long for the food....? Well from the time we "ordered" over 45 minutes and never received food. we left hungry and cold. (It was freezing inside that restaurant) It was relatively empty The server was nice. Not sure what the delay was. kathy the server said there was a huge take out order that delayed our order and ours would be right out. (Which I feel may have been a fib.... Not sure but my gut say probably.... Why? No one had come in for a "big"take out order, I think she forgot to log in our order as she was distracted with the table next to us that had their former cook there. I could see that easily happening under this situation.) After waiting another three minutes and no food, we were "over" Over the Counter and nicely told her were leaving. To cancel our order. She nicely tried to entice us to stay saying the owner was going to give us a gift certificate... but that just further solidified that they "knew" our meals timing had gone sideways and we had been neglected. What an odd little place this is wedged into the southern edge of Worthington. Outside it has this 60s diner vibe and inside it has more of a beerhaus vibe that was a little confusing. The menu is mostly Diner fare. I went here for lunch on a random Thursday just to check it out. The food was fine, but the service was pretty slow, the other patrons were considerably older, and the beer selection was awfully weak considering it seemed to be a focus. We came here for lunch for the first time. I ordered a turkey club sandwich with waffle fries. My husband ordered the half spinach salad. The club was served on a tomato swirl bread and it had an unusual flavor. The flavor was either the bread or else it was from the griddle that it was cooked on. This was not something that I would order again. The waffle fries were hot and tasty. My husband enjoyed his salad. The service was friendly and quick. At brunch, my corned beef hash tasted only of salt. The over-easy egg whites were runny. The "bed of potatoes" looked like the frozen sliced kind. The "toast" wasn't toasted. I don't know how you make an over-easy egg with runny whites. When I make eggs at home, I flip the egg, and within a couple of seconds the whites are no longer runny. Some of Over the Counter's whites looked like snot. The other folks at my table had nice looking meals. I didn't stick around long enough to find out if they liked them. Between the undercooked food, the hard rock music at 10 a.m., and the too-cold air conditioning, I sent back my meal, said goodbye to the group and popped gum into my mouth to get rid of the taste of salt. I was with a large group, and the server said they were short a cook, so maybe the food is normally better. Portions are large. read more

We meet some friends here for dinner before going to a concert. It is located in a strip mall and has a little patio in front with some umbrellas. It does not have any heaters, so it would only be good in the warmer months. There was plenty of parking as the other businesses were closed by the time we arrived. On the inside it has some high tables with a bench on one side and high-top chairs on the other. The bar is located on the other side and has plenty of seats and televisions. Our server was nice and friendly. Big surprise, we started out with drinks. I got a whiskey sour with Makers Mark and a couple of cherries, to make it a wee bit sweeter. My man got a Yeungling draft, one of his regular beers. We shared the Beer Pretzel Bites, they were delicious. Oh, so crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside, it even came with two ramekins of cheese. There was some cheese left over, which usually never happens. For my meal I got a cup of French Onion Soup and the Italian Chicken Sandwich. The croutons on the soup were large and crunchy, and there was a ton of melted cheese on top. I ordered the cup and it appeared to almost be bowl size. The chicken was grilled, with red peppers, lettuce, tomato, provolone cheese and some pesto aioli. The bread was something I had never seen before, grilled tomato swirl beard, like a marble rye. YUMMY! My man got the Counter Burger with American cheese, lettuce, tomato and red onion on a grilled bun, with a side of onion rings. It also came with a pickle spear on the side. Everything must have been good because he ate it all and did not even save me a bite, lol. We will definitely be back a couple of times. Stopped in after church and had a GREAT Savory Cactus Chili. The taste was outstanding slightly sweet with an abundance of flavors, wish there was more. I had it with a nice glass of apple cider. My friend had the same with a Bloody Mary, he loved the horseradish (plenty). The service was fast, within minutes of ordering. There are plenty of tvs around the bar to watch any sports game you wish. Very clean, even the restrooms. Like a diner, with a high end bar feeling. Top shelf liquor. I haven't been by OTC in a couple of years and decided to pop in to check it out. I went in around 815pm, knowing they were closed at 9. The staff was incredible with service and didn't make me feel rushed even though they were closing in less than an hour. I grabbed the Pretzel bites with beer cheese as an appetizer and the Route 23 salad with Salmon for my meal. These pretzel bites are ABSOLUTELY incredible!! I could stop in daily for these and never be disappointed!! They are so crisp on the outside and super soft in the center. It comes with 2 cups of beer cheese, which is enough, so you don't have to order extra ($0.99) The route 23 is full of flavor with goat cheese crumbles, candied nuts, and fresh strawberries!! The house made sweet balsamic dressing is the perfect pairing! I added the 8oz portion of Salmon ($7.99) vs the smaller 4oz ($4.99). The Salmon was cooked correctly and was a delicious choice! This little restaurant is really nice! The food was delicious. I love breakfast potatoes that are more than just shredded or cubed potatoes. They really hit the spot for me. The sweet & spicy bacon is AMAZING. The bartender who was our server was super nice and did a great job checking in on us even though they were super busy. Will be going here again. OTC continues to ramp back to their prepandemic self. They are now open Tuesday through Friday 11 - 9 pm, Saturday from 10:00 am, and Sundays from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. There's no closing between lunch & dinner which is sweet! I've also heard that soon they're planning to be back open on Mondays as well. There are now daily specials, Tuesday through Friday, that rotate. A chef's choice Mac & cheese, a day with a wing special, and a grilled cheese with a different soup for some examples. Plus Happy hour has also returned!! There's a version of loaded fries, pretzel bites & cheese, and fried veggies for $5 each. I added a picture of the current discounts on happy hour alcohol. Bonus: happy hour is Monday - Saturday! OTC has upped the staffing considerably. Sometimes it still seems like they could use more folks but, with coming back to almost full tilt operation I'm sure that will all get sorted. read more

A very adorable spot nestled between Clintonville and Worthington that I've been meaning to try. The atmosphere was great but the service and food were not up to my expectations. A friend and I stopped here for lunch and ordered sandwiches. I ordered the Italian Chicken sandwich but what I received was not correct. It was a chicken sandwich with mayonnaise---instead of pesto aioli and missing the roasted red pepper. It was still very tasty, but I felt like I was missing out on the "Italian" part of the sandwich. I also did not receive a pickle--which I know is picky AF--but I would have loved to have one with my sammy and chips. My friend was similarly disillusioned with the wrap she received. The ladies were plenty friendly and accommodating, but the service was slow. Both working full-time, we had an hour for lunch and we definitely went over that hour by a lot. For a sandwich place, I'd think they'd turn over their tables a little quicker. All in all, I'm glad I went to Over the Counter. And I'd maybe try it again at the bar for cocktails when I wasn't pressed for time. read more

I started with a glass of white wine - sad they didn't have Riesling. I chose the Route 23 salad minus the goat cheese and it was really good. My meal highlight was the Chicken & Rice soup, full of chicken, rice, and veggies. It was thick and creamy. I would get this over & over again. My friend had the black bean burger on wheat bread. They don't have wheat buns, so she subbed. When we moved inside, my friend wanted hot tea. Our server brought a variety of tea and a pot of hot water. There are tables, booths, and a large bar. This little gem has been around for a few years and I've always been wanting to give it a try. So, for our weekly outing today, my wife and I headed to Worthington to try Over the Counter. This is an interesting place. I'd describe it as a typical diner except for the fact that they have a full bar with 10 beers on tap (8 microbrews plus a cider and Pabst Blue Ribbon). The menu is classic diner fare - many sandwiches, soups, and salads. The wife opted for the cream of chicken with rice soup and their 23 salad. She said the soup definitely tasted homemade and that it was loaded with chicken, rice, carrots, and celery. She said it was excellent and she'd definitely order it again. She said the 23 salad was very good but she wasn't sure she'd order it next time, I tried the Where's Waldo fried bologna sandwich with chips. The fried bologna was served on grilled sourdough with carmelized onions and a delicious spicey mustard. It was excellent and made me think of the famous fried bologna sandwiches in Waldo, OH. Service was excellent and the prices were reasonable. My only complaint was that the restaurant's thermostat was set too low and it was quite chilly in the restaurant. read more

I went in for dinner, and specifically for the French onion soup which was one of the best I've ever had (definitely try it). However I followed that up with a grilled chicken Cesar wrap which was disappointing. The grilled chicken seemed marinated but had an odd flavor. And each half of my wrap only had a tiny dab of what seemed to be a house made non-classic Cesar dressing. I love trying different things, and I'm not a purist, so I appreciate different interpretations of meals, but this Cesar wrap didn't work. Fortunately I was able to wash it down with one of the many draft beers they offer. Service was really friendly and very attentive. While I did have an assigned server, the entire staff pitched in to help take orders and deliver the food and drinks. Ultimately, I would go back for the French onion soup and good beer selection, I'll just swap out the Cesar wrap for something else. read more

Geez, I can't believe I never knew this restaurant was here! Met friends for lunch - loved it as soon as I walked in the door. It's a bit quirky with relic decor and has the original flooring (loved it). The waitress was very nice and attentive. The food! I only had French Onion soup (Delicious rich broth) and their fried pickle spears (really, really good with thin crusting and great homemade ranch dressing). Mom had had their French onion soup before and said it was the best she's had outside of France. She got some of that again. Baby K had grilled cheese with fries, and loved it. I got huevos rancheros, which were very good. Egg, seasoned beans, crispy tortilla (I do mine with soft ones, but it worked.) Sour cream and salsa on the side. Cheesy sauteed veggies as well, also good. I tried a cup of chicken wild rice soup, one of my favorites. Very, very tasty. Lots of chicken, mushrooms, carrots, etc., in a creamy sauce. Not much rice, oddly. But still very good. Great service. We sat outside, a nice choice. A bit expensive, but for good, made from scratch stuff, it was worth it. read more

Starting with the food it was good, other than the temperature. would have appreciated my breakfast being hot. The place was busy which may have contributed to the slow service. A really good place for a burger! The food is delicious and exactly like what you would expect from an American restaurant. From what I've experienced, the service is great. Everybody working there was very kind and helpful. The atmosphere is kid friendly as well as casual. I just wish this place was more original. Is this a new place? It feels new. Or maybe I'm just now noticing it even though it's directly next to the church we go to. New or not, I'm pretty pleased that I stopped by here the other night. It was pretty busy when we came but was seat yourself. Bustling, but not loud enough to be overwhelming. It was really hard to limit the food I ordered for my daughter and myself. All the apps looked amazing, but I settled on splitting the basket of fries. They had a nice rosemary flavor to them. I tried the mac and cheese my daughter ordered, it was pretty good but a splash of Cholula really took it to the next level. I ordered the patty melt for myself and got the cole slaw as the side. The cole slaw was creamier than most I've had. The patty melt was delicious but I'll probably order it without onions next time. Sunday brunch at this fun spot in Worthington. Family all went for the customized scramble / omelet and we weren't disappointed. Only issue was that my son's omelet didn't have the bacon ordered but the staff responded immediately, offering to bring bacon or remake the omelet. He opted for the bacon and it was there in a flash. My scramble was great. Potatoes seasoned perfectly, eggs done right, bacon crisp and mushrooms and spinach perfect. Waitress was friendly and attentive. Only other complaint would be that it took longer than I would have expected, but nothing egregious. And the friendliness of the staff and service more than made up for it. Overall a great experience. read more

This restaurant was a new place that my office and I had tried for fun lunch Thursday. The service was nice, we were able to grab a table in no problem, seat yourself. The vibe and style of the place was very random, it seemed to be a mixture of retro, diner and bar vibes all in one. So note sure what look they were going for but doesn't matter. We started off with some Buffalo wings and they were crispy to the taste, just how we like it. The sauce was so good we ended up saving it for our fries. I got the southwestern wrap with grilled chicken and it was average. Nothing special and not wrapped great. The southwest sauce was on the side, I would have liked it to be in the wrap along with the bean dip. We also got the tuna Sandwich and it was also average. Lastly we got the spinach salad with salmon. The salmon was good good just not a whole lot of flavor, but there was plenty of spinach.
