So far Ohio has been a wonderful experience for my family. Great food, great atmosphere, and so many things to do with the family. Birch was on my list, and had been recommended by a few folks that I work with. Awesome vibe inside, very clean, and the service was prompt. Pat was our server, and was very nice, very professional, and was quick to help us out. I'm a huge backyard simple burger type of guy, and this is exactly what I was looking for. Burger was very delicious, cooked just right. Would be nice if the burger was served with fries, instead of having to order separately, but still a damn good burger. Wings were everything you want them to be, sauced up, with extra in the basket to spare, plump, not over cooked at all. Make sure to get some extra napkins, they are very much worth the commotion I've heard. The only thing I could say that Birch could work on was the small size/amount of pretzel bites you get for $8. Pretty steep. All in all, very good food here, no question. Can't say enough about the burger, me and the family will be back in the future. read more

I would like to tell you how much my friends and I enjoyed the Birch Tavern in Groveport and how good the food was but, we were there for over 15 minutes and no one ever acknowledged our existence, SO WE LEFT. We went to Lovell's Tavern on Alum Creek Dr. Great service, nice people, really great food. The Phiily Cheese Steak sandwich and loaded fries were excellent. They also keep the Juke Box hopping. 5 Stars for LOVELL'S TAVERN. 0 Stars for Birch Tavern. I'll never go there again. NO RESPONSE from The Birch Tavern. An unlikely gathering spot for a few nearly-octogenarians to meet up, but the location was right and the reviews were good. The reviews were warranted. We were able to occupy a high top table for two hours and received service that was attentive, cheerful, and not rushing us even though we weren't drinking or ordering much. We had chicken && waffles (out-of-this-world delish), and a bacon cheeseburger (thick, juicy, cooked perfectly evenly throughout) with fries sprinkled with sea salt (the first thing to be eaten since they were good & hot). Ambiance was nice, too. Light birch wood covering ceilings about 12 feet high, well-lit, comfortable, clean. Wow! Birch Tavern has made some upgrades inside since the last time I stopped in. I previously would have considered it a great hole in the wall tavern. Now it is bright, clean, bustling with patrons, and all around a great neighborhood bar! Do you know what every great neighborhood bar needs, an absolutely amazing bartender....and Birch Tavern has that too. Her name is Kim and she is a big part of what makes Birch Tavern great! We parked out behind the bar, and we came in through the back entrance. The parking lot was packed, so we weren't sure we would find a seat. Kim spotted us coming in and she quickly greeted us with a friendly hello, and then she immediately pointed out where there were two seats that we could slide into. That kind of greeting, and kindness is so rare now a days. She quickly made her way over to us with two menus and then proceeded to have our beers out to us in no time. Let me say this again, the bar was packed. By the time we left, we were convinced, Kim was only one of two working the entire place, other than those cooking in the kitchen and delivering food. Kim was able to keep all the patrons drinks full. She knew what we were going to ask for before we asked for it. She is amazing and she made our visit so enjoyable. Birch Tavern has good bar food. If you get the pretzel bites, we highly suggest them with the honey mustard. Our dinners came out hot. We didn't have to wait long for the food. I enjoyed my grilled chicken sandwich and fries. My husband thought the italian sub was ok, not the best, but totally edible. We were so happy with our visit, we will definitely be back again. Hopefully Kim will be there to help us out. I has the pleasure of enjoying a working lunch with 5 of my colleagues today. What a cool vibe going on here. We were seated quickly and our drink order was taken almost immediately and we had our drinks in no time. I ordered the club and substituted fries instead of chips. My sandwich was large made perfectly and most importantly delicious. My boss ordered the chili and it looked amazing. Everyone else had a variety of sandwiches and we all enjoyed our lunch very much. Was out for a drive this afternoon found myself near Groveport, Ohio USA. Never been there before, time to check it out. If you've never been to Groveport, it's a very quaint town just outside of Columbus's SE side. Lots of Civil war era buildings and houses. The Birch Tavern caught my eye, so I parked out back and went in. I'm thinking a couple beers and some sort of sandwich for lunch might hit the spot. The young dark haired bartender lady greeted me as I walked in. Also got a nod and a hey from the 5 people clustered at the end of the bar. Friendly enough place. The bar is paneled floor to ceiling in, guess what? Birch!. All over, everywhere, even in the restrooms.....Not my thing but hey I've seen worse ideas. It did look clean though, very clean. The bartender though was top drawer. She got my drink order and I asked her if they served food. She apologized and said they didn't but there was the Little Italy Pizza place that delivered food if I wanted and she gave me their menu. She did check back a few minutes later and asked if she could call in an order for me. It was very nice of her to offer, but I decided Italian wasn't really what I wanted after all. Had a couple beers and a few more locals - regulars came in. My bill for two Yuenglings was $5.00. Great prices. Left her a $2 tip and went on my way. read more

I wanted to like this spot because I spend so much time in this area, but I definitely could have experienced better. The only really good thing about my visit here was our server; he was very attentive. The major problems I faced here was the time it took to get our food, and the food itself. I understand that hometown places have grease in their food, but this was really overkill. With every bite, it was like an explosion of hot and burning water. My soda was flat as well; not what I would have expected. When we all got home, the feeling of a sour stomach overcame all four of us. A place I would have loved more in my younger, badass, years! So, it's decked out pretty much Biker Rustic Nouveau with good old R&R and outlaw country piping through the speakers. The tap beer selection is eclectic enough but peer pressure says order Bud or local brew. I went with a Yeungling and got no odd looks. Safe me. Let's put it this way....my simple, yet cool sweater was way out of place. Too white collar but I can fit in, right? Not really as not a soul in this place said a peep to me for over an hour at the bar. My bartender was so great. She was attentive and friendly, sort of. Ordering was easy except no healthy food was available. Lettuce eColi was news of the day. Probably just an excuse to feed me a potato chips side. Before I was told of no leafy stuff on premises, I had to settle on Bleu Cheese Dressing as I got a sideways look when asking for Oil & Vinegar or Balsamic. Bartender saw on Menu Monitor that Balsamic was an option before she came out 10 minutes later on the eColi news. Cole Slaw it is. People have southern accents here. How can that be??? Then a biker couple came in and sat next to me. Long-ass wicked cool beard but had cologne on like my 86 year old dad. I thought me generation boycotted that shit in the 70s. My burger was perfectly expectedly greasy but absolutely devoid of flavor. The bun looked and tasted good but some weird, stale smell would wiff up my nostrils only when I bit into it. Easy enough to get over when you're famished. So, why the 4 stars? Because it was what I expected from a clean, well-kept, somewhat upclass divey biker bar. And the lighting, sound and drink selection was good. Only thing I'd do different next time is come here dressed normally and expect to eat like I don't care about my heart health. Last but definitely not least- don't come here alone. Not because of any danger but only because you will be lonely. Even talking to people gets you small, somewhat mannerly, grunts in return. I found not a conversationalist or friendly soul to the left or right of me for the several hours I was here. And that's disappointing as I love Midwesterners as friendly, warm and great people in my many, many experiences out in Ohio and other states out here. read more

After we sat down, someone came and took our drink order. Then 20 minutes later she came around again and said our food would be out in a minute... WE HADNT SEEN HER SINCE SHE TOOK OUR DRINK ORDER SO WE HADNT EVEN ORDERED YET! She took our order, never wrote anything down, and then tried to repeat it and got it wrong just after hearing it 30 seconds before, so I knew it wasn't going to be good. Another 20 minutes after that our food came... well some of it. Both of our bacon cheese burgers had no bacon and the sides of fries for the kids never came either. Surprise surprise we were charged for the bacon cheeseburgers, but at least the fries were not on the check. Very disappointed read more
