Came here for a friend's birthday party on a Sunday night. There was a DJ playing and the music was way too loud for such a small space. I'm not deducting stars for this, because it was a party after all. The food and the service was sub par though. I ordered a couple of chili dogs which took about 20 minutes to come out. The chili was sparse and had more of the consistency of canned, diced tomatoes. The hot dog buns were too soggy to pick up. I had to use a knife and fork to cut them up. The last one I eventually just pulled the dog out of the soggy bun and ate it. I was too hungry and couldn't be bothered cutting up another one. Tortilla chips out of a bag with salsa we're served on the side. I expected a bit more for $6 a piece. The atmosphere of the Olde Oak seems very sterile; there is very little to make it more than a large room with a bar. I rarely give less than 3 stars for an establishment, but this place doesn't deserve any more than two - if that. I definitely won't be rushing back anytime soon. read more

Stoped in here for Sunday all day happy hour! It was a nice day and they had the doors open which was nice! It seemed there was only one waiter, in which he was busy! All day on Sunday they have $6 shareable items. I ordered the wings. They were delicious. They were smoked and then deep fried. This gave them a great smokey flavor and a nice crispy crust. We came on a Sunday around one o'clock and the place was somewhat busy. We were seated right away and asked for our drink order. Since we were hungry we chose two things to get the order in right away: smoked barrels and chicken nachos. Later we ordered french fries. I liked the art on the walls. The smoked barrels was good. Five rolls came hot with ample size bowls of sour cream and another of salsa. The first bite was bready, but after that it wasn't bad at all. The chicken nachos order was generously sized, but the shredded chicken was room temperature. I wished it was hot. The French fries came hot with ample size bowls of ketchup and another of avocado cream. I don't know why we weren't given napkins (we had to ask for them) or silverware (but we didn't need it) and our server seemed distracted. Food poisoning! Taco Tuesday, come and get it. Let there pothead cooks serve you something that will make you throw up and diarrhea for a good long time. Hope you can afford health care. The place is also ugly. It has floor to ceiling wraparound murals, but they are all Tan. Which gives the place kind of a dreary feel. They could hang some things on the wall besides TVs but honestly they should focus on COOKING THE FOOD and not serving BAD FOOD. They also play horrible music (Butt rock and top 40). And, the place just attracts a weird crowd. The regulars are a pretty grotty bunch tbh. Sleazy bros, weird old creepers. It's just an uncomfortable place all around that never leant itself to socializing even with the pool table, although I will say, the place is at least in it's way a melting pot. But not really cause people aren't meeting each other. Finally, the last good thing they had going for them, which were some really nice bartenders that kept me coming back, seems to have dried up. Last time a friend and I sat at the bar this awful blond I'd never seen, never even greeted us even when passing by multiple times, so we finally left. That was that. Stopped by Olde Oak for happy hour with some coworkers. I had never been before, but one of my colleagues spoke of it pretty highly. And I must admit, the vibes are pretty cool. The walls are decked out in unique artwork, there's a pool table in the front and a nice large bar that acts like the center piece of the restaurant. The appetizers are super reasonable (all under $6). I ordered the street corn esquites -- their take on Mexican street corn. The happy hour food special was on the chicken wings -- $0.75 per wing. They offer either buffalo or BBQ sauce and it comes with a scallion-ranch dip. The corn esquites left something to be desired. The corn itself was pretty soggy and the dish didn't have that much flavor. The wings were...exactly what you would expect from a happy hour wing deal, very average. And I was a little disappointed that they only offered two sauces. That said, this would be a good place to come grab a drink but I have my reservations about the food. read more

Again I wish we could go half stars. I would do 3.5 stars but I will go generous and go with 4 stars. I happened upon this place when we tried to go to Hangover Easy and they had over an hour wait. We had walked past Olde Oak and saw they were serving brunch. Not realizing it was a Mexican place, we were pleasantly surprised to see the brunch menu. They have a nice offering of unique dishes. We didn't really read any reveries before going in since it was on a whim. I read a few quickly at the table before ordering. Most mentioned the food was great but the service is very hit or miss. I agree with this. Our server wasn't unpleasant, but she wasn't sure attentive. We would have ordered more drinks had she popped over to check on us before we were done. In any case. The food was good. I love that they used sweet potatoes instead of regular potatoes. I got the sweet potato hash and it was very good. I would probably get scrambled eggs on it next time, but she didn't even ask so I didn't even think to check. It was very good, though. I would also prefer a larger portion for the cost. The pictures I've seen are a larger portion so maybe it depends on the cook that day. My husband got the breakfast burrito and really liked the sweet potatoes in there as well. Our friend got the breakfast tacos. I passed on those because I prefer flour tortillas over corn tortillas. But they looked delicious and she enjoyed them a lot. They had all day happy hour which was nice. All drafts are half off, including their mimosas since the Prosecco is on draft, which I loved. I came here to watch a family's band live. First, the bar is really cute, with a good vibe. The bar was busy, but appeared to be manageable (from what I could see, but I know nothing about working/running a restaurant or bar).... having never been here before, we didn't know if the kitchen was open, if we ordered from the bar, or waited for server. So, when my BIL tried to ask someone who was clearing a table near us, she snapped at him and stated she wasn't ale to help him. So, we patiently waited for another server to come by.... we ordered wings and fries, both VERY good with an aioli with a fantastic garlic profile. While we really enjoyed the food, I don't think we'll run back to The Olde Oak anytime soon. read more

I went there on a Friday with a group of friends. It wasn't busy. Our server was inattentive at best. It appears as though there are 'regulars,' which we were not, and he was very attentive to the few people who appeared to be regulars. Someone handed out a flyer for. 'Women's month celebration,' that was occurring the next day. I went back the next day and sat at the bar. It was crowded, again based on the service they received-the bartenders and servers seemed to know them-they were regulars. The server I had the night before was just bartending. He totally disregarded me and served people he seemed to know-who came in after me, before me. He finally took and delivered my order. I asked for my check--ten minutes, not delivered--as he delivered checks to those seated around me. Asked another bartender if they could get my check--they must have said something to him, ten minutes later (total of 20 minutes waiting) he brought my check-with a handful of attitude. The check reflected a price for my food that was higher than what was listed on the menu. I didn't dispute it because at that point, I just wanted to leave. Good food, good vibe from the customers, but really poor service unless you are part of the 'regulars' clique. I won't return. read more

This bar is like Cheers. The entire old town east neighborhood loves coming here and the staff know everyone already or will try to get to know you. I like to always sit at the bar but so does everyone else lol so if you like sitting at the bar sometimes it's full just fyi. They have live music and amazing food. The owner is usually there and she is wonderful. LOVE her and she is so kind and loves creating a community space where people feel safe and just enjoy themselves. Very clean and cool mural walls. Not entirely sure our waiters name, and I'm sure he meant well, but he was drinking alcohol behind the bar and taking shots with the other staff members. Our waiter was very inebriated and sometimes it seemed he forgot we were there. He very rarely checked back with us and was not very attentive. His speech was slurred when he would try to speak with us and really didn't understand him when he did get the words out. I had to place my order twice with him because he didn't seem to understand what it was I was ordering off the menu. The other couple with us also had the same problem. After waiting an hour I had to flag down our waiter with my plastic ware he gave us, and asked him the status on our breakfast food we had placed an hour earlier and finally got a refill on coffee. Approximately 5 minutes later we got our food, and it was crawling with little critters. Took a picture and advised our waiter of our infested food. He did give us a discount for the food and it is petty with my complaints. But breakfast food should not take over an hour, the staff should not be intoxicated, and the food should not have creepy crawlies in it. Doubt we'll come back. read more

Picked up food on a rainy day after calling in an order and had a very pleasant experience with the staff. Both people working greeted me while I was waiting. Pretty much every seat was taken at the bar and even some of the high tops around it. Definitely has the neighborhood bar feel to it. There's really cool art on the walls. The place is spacious with many tables, and some games. Food was tasty... ended up getting wings (one with sauce and one dry rub), the olde oak salad, and nachos with brisket. I thought I ordered the mac and cheese add brisket but they must have mis-heard me. I went half my meal thinking I was eating some sort of mac and cheese that didn't have noodles but had a bunch of fun add-in toppings. I was very confused. And then I realized these were all of the toppings for the nachos and that's why I got tortilla chips! Haha. Anyway it all was pretty decent value. Avocado in the salad made it worth the $10+. I did see a hair in my wings upon opening the box (you can see in the photo) which was unappealing but I just tried to forget about it. The wings were really good and there were also pickled vegetables that came with the wings which was unique. Would give it a 3.5 if I could but rounding down to the hair. The Olde Oak is one of the best places to eat in Olde Towne East. I thought it was just a bar. They have a pretty big food menu. It goes beyond typical stuff you find in a bar. There's some good healthy options. It was crowded for a weeknight. It was impossible to find a seat at the bar. They do have lots of tables. After a few minutes a patron left so we moved to the bar. The menu was much bigger than we expected. I had a vodka and tonic. It's about $3 for happy hour. This was refreshing after hard work. I had the falafel wrap. It's about $10 and comes with chips. The falafel was crispy outside and creamy inside. It came with some tasty garnishes. There was some kind of cabbage that came on it. It so far is the best bar in Olde Towne East. They certainly have the best food. This fills a void since Carabar isn't there. read more

I came with two other friends close to 7 on a Saturday. It was a bit sparse. What I like about the Olde Town East neighborhood is that it's a hipster area and a lot of places here aren't quite popular yet. Works for me since finding a dinner spot on a Saturday night in Columbus can be an absolute headache sometimes. I loved all the murals. Seems like they were going for a western theme as some of the art and menu items had interesting names and designs. Our waiter was really nice and told us that happy hour was ending in five minutes but she'd put an order for something if we wanted it. She suggested the smoking barrels. They were rolled, fried flour with cheese in it. Yum! And only $5! You could dip it in a very mild salsa. I built my own tacos. I got 3. Brisket, pickled onion, avocado crema. It was not as flavorful as I would like but not all that bland. My friend got taco in a bag and a street dog. The taco had veggie chili which she didn't like. The dog was small so she was glad she got two items. It wouldn't have been filling otherwise. My other friend got an arepa which had brisket, lettuce, tomato, crema, and queso fresco. She also thought it could've been more seasoned. All the entrees come with chips and salsa. It had a slight kick. I enjoyed it! I was full! Overall, I'll come back again! I love the atmosphere! Very low key and I loved that they had OSU football on the TV as well as an endless loop of Friends playing on one of the TVs. There's also a pool table of that appeals to ya. We originally wanted to go to a different place across the street, but it was an hour wait today. We made our way inside and it smelled like fresh cleaner (good sign). The brunch menu was very limited, and I was slightly disappointed that they only offered sweet breakfast potatoes instead of regular, so I ended up ordering a waffle with fresh fruit on top. My boyfriend ordered the sweet potato hash and a black coffee, and he loved his! It definitely had a kick to it. He said his coffee was very strong, maybe even too strong (and he always drinks strong coffee). My waffle was delicious and the fruit was very fresh. Be sure to visit if you want: forgotten about, your drinks so bad you have to chug them, the food to take forever, the food to be wrong once you finally get it and your check to have extra items on it you did not order. It's a Sunday- the bar had all the seats taken but there was hardly anyone at any of the tables. Sign on the table said talk to the bar tender to order drinks and food. We go up and ask for some menus and order some mules. We watch the main bar tender make other drinks and bring it to another table near us so we thought "cool, when he brings our drinks we will order food." He makes a few other drinks, serves them and then proceeds to chat with coworkers and people around him. Then we watch him take out the trash and stand some more, chatting. Another server/bartender comes over and asks if she can get us anything so we order our food and ask her to see where our mules were at. She heads the other direction then the main bartender. Meanwhile she didn't write the order down and had to recap twice before she left our table. Main bartender comes over to our table and asks if she got us taken care of and we say yes but what about our mules and he admits he totally forgot. Ok. By this point we have been there 25+ minutes. He brings back the mules. Awful, just awful. Missing the lime juice, watered down and not the right proportion of ginger beer. Stirring somehow made them worse. It's another long while before food comes out aaaaand it's wrong. I order the regular chicken sandwich and it came out spicy covered in buffalo sauce with extra jalapeños and my friend ordered the quesadilla with no chicken and a side of street corn however chicken was in it and no street corn. She sets our plates down and practically runs away before we can tell her this maybe isn't our food. I have to go to the bar and wave her down. She puts in a regular chicken sandwich and street corn. So we wait more. My friend eats her quesadilla and we nibble on the fries because at this point we are starving. My regular sandwich finally comes out but her street corn never does! The patty on the chicken sandwich is thin, over cooked so it's rubbery. GFS frozen chicken patties are better. Barely eat half because it's so rubbery and chewy it's not good. Finally flag someone down to ask for the bill and reminded them to remove the street corn because we never got it. Main bartender tells us to look over our bill because they have been having problems with peoples bills being wrong. Ok. Yup. Street corn not removed and 4 beers put on our tab. WTH. Took them another 15 minutes to try and sort it out. Complete chaos. It wasn't busy enough for this place to be such a haphazard. (Many empty tables) They had at least one main bartender and two other bartenders/servers. I have absolutely no reason to go back or to recommend. We will be hitting other spots if we are seeing a show at The Bluestone. read more

I met Gwen W here for happy hour and brought my mom along. My folks live right around the corner and have been here themselves for a meal. My mom wanted a bloody mary, which she got, and later ordered fries with a great side of aoli for dipping. It was an event night; they were celebrating International Women's Day. They had a special menu, and later a band (we left before their 8:00 start). The owner lady waited on us and introduced herself (I forgot her name already). I had a couple of the special cocktails with OYO bourbon, and the Street Corn Esquites, an amazing "snack" and only $3.50. So, it got very very busy and service was not the best after our first round. They appeared to be overwhelmed and perhaps not enough servers working. I ordered a salad to go (bad decision) and waited quite a while. This does not deter me from returning. It is a great space and great add to the neighborhood. This place is as good as it gets for a local bar/restaurant. They got a full bar, good selection of drafts, a pool tables, and a touch tunes. Despite the relatively smaLl size, there's tons of bar seating, high-tops, and tables. The happy hour is hard to beat - $3 well drinks, $4 wine pours, half price drafts, and $5 shareables. Note that happy hour runs all day Sunday. They also have daily specials (e.g., $5 burgers on mondays). The food here is great, particularly the smoked/fried wings. I've been patronizing this place for years. I have bought at least 6 friends or family members here. My go to is getting their wings (with the sauce on the side, they are so yummy they need no sauce), the aioli fries and the pickled veggies. One of the flaws of this place are the servers, sometimes you get a decent one, but sometimes you get a real sucky one. It is so annoying, because i have worked as a waiter and some of the people move like a snail, never follow up, lolligagging, etc. This place is more of a bar that happens to serve decent food. read more

We had been here before with mediocre experiences but this was the worst. Ordered the waffle with a side of eggs and a BELT. Waffle was cold and the toppings tasted old/ stale. The side of scrambled eggs were cold. The eggs on the BELT were basically raw, with the whites still translucent. No one came to ask if the food was okay. We were provided flimsy plastic ware rather than proper utensils. It's hard to cut a cold waffle with a plastic knife. Do not recommend, just wait for Hang Over Easy. read more

After eating at Olde Oak several times over the years, I will never step back in the place. On 9/18, two of us attempted to enjoy lunch. We waited for menus, got them tossed at us, and were roundly ignored while asking three employees if we could get drinks and order our food. We witnessed two elderly ladies sit as long as we did and as ignored as we were, and finally leaving to go across the street to another restaurant. The only people in the restaurant were all younger than us, and when a manager or a waitress (not sure who she was) finally broke away from the party behind the bar and came to our table, it was to tell us to leave. This leaves me to believe that people of age are not welcome at the Olde Oak. I didn't realize patron ageism existed in restaurants. We went across the street too. read more
