Stoped in here for Sunday all day happy hour! It was a nice day and they had the doors open which was nice! It seemed there was only one waiter, in which he was busy! All day on Sunday they have $6 shareable items. I ordered the wings. They were delicious. They were smoked and then deep fried. This gave them a great smokey flavor and a nice crispy crust. The buffalo sauce and ranch paired very well. The pickled veggies were a nice change to the normal raw veggies .

Chicken Nachos

We came on a Sunday around one o'clock and the place was somewhat busy. We were seated right away and asked for our drink order. Since we were hungry we chose two things to get the order in right away: smoked barrels and chicken nachos. Later we ordered french fries. I liked the art on the walls. The smoked barrels was good. Five rolls came hot with ample size bowls of sour cream and another of salsa. The first bite was bready, but after that it wasn't bad at all. The chicken nachos order was generously sized, but the shredded chicken was room temperature. I wished it was hot. The French fries came hot with ample size bowls of ketchup and another of avocado cream. I don't know why we weren't given napkins (we had to ask for them) or silverware (but we didn't need it) and our server seemed distracted. She explained that the long wait for our food was because they were short staffed the night before so a lot of prep work didn't get done. Will we return? Maybe.

Stopped by Olde Oak for happy hour with some coworkers. I had never been before, but one of my colleagues spoke of it pretty highly. And I must admit, the vibes are pretty cool. The walls are decked out in unique artwork, there's a pool table in the front and a nice large bar that acts like the center piece of the restaurant. The appetizers are super reasonable (all under $6). I ordered the street corn esquites -- their take on Mexican street corn. The happy hour food special was on the chicken wings -- $0.75 per wing. They offer either buffalo or BBQ sauce and it comes with a scallion-ranch dip. The corn esquites left something to be desired. The corn itself was pretty soggy and the dish didn't have that much flavor. The wings were...exactly what you would expect from a happy hour wing deal, very average. And I was a little disappointed that they only offered two sauces. That said, this would be a good place to come grab a drink but I have my reservations about the food.

Again I wish we could go half stars. I would do 3.5 stars but I will go generous and go with 4 stars. I happened upon this place when we tried to go to Hangover Easy and they had over an hour wait. We had walked past Olde Oak and saw they were serving brunch. Not realizing it was a Mexican place, we were pleasantly surprised to see the brunch menu. They have a nice offering of unique dishes. We didn't really read any reveries before going in since it was on a whim. I read a few quickly at the table before ordering. Most mentioned the food was great but the service is very hit or miss. I agree with this. Our server wasn't unpleasant, but she wasn't sure attentive. We would have ordered more drinks had she popped over to check on us before we were done. In any case. The food was good. I love that they used sweet potatoes instead of regular potatoes. I got the sweet potato hash and it was very good. I would probably get scrambled eggs on it next time, but she didn't even ask so I didn't even think to check. It was very good, though. I would also prefer a larger portion for the cost. The pictures I've seen are a larger portion so maybe it depends on the cook that day. My husband got the breakfast burrito and really liked the sweet potatoes in there as well. Our friend got the breakfast tacos. I passed on those because I prefer flour tortillas over corn tortillas. But they looked delicious and she enjoyed them a lot. They had all day happy hour which was nice. All drafts are half off, including their mimosas since the Prosecco is on draft, which I loved. Again, we would have ordered another round had she checked on us before we were completely done with our meals. Oh well. In all, I would go back again.

Little creepy crawlies in the breakfast taco

I'm sure there's a way to make half or no stars but I'll give it a 1 star because some of our food was pretty ok. Not entirely sure our waiters name, and I'm sure he meant well, but he was drinking alcohol behind the bar and taking shots with the other staff members. Our waiter was very inebriated and sometimes it seemed he forgot we were there. He very rarely checked back with us and was not very attentive. His speech was slurred when he would try to speak with us and really didn't understand him when he did get the words out. I had to place my order twice with him because he didn't seem to understand what it was I was ordering off the menu. The other couple with us also had the same problem. After waiting an hour I had to flag down our waiter with my plastic ware he gave us, and asked him the status on our breakfast food we had placed an hour earlier and finally got a refill on coffee. Approximately 5 minutes later we got our food, and it was crawling with little critters. Took a picture and advised our waiter of our infested food. He did give us a discount for the food and it is petty with my complaints. But breakfast food should not take over an hour, the staff should not be intoxicated, and the food should not have creepy crawlies in it. Doubt we'll come back.

Picked up food on a rainy day after calling in an order and had a very pleasant experience with the staff. Both people working greeted me while I was waiting. Pretty much every seat was taken at the bar and even some of the high tops around it. Definitely has the neighborhood bar feel to it. There's really cool art on the walls. The place is spacious with many tables, and some games. Food was tasty... ended up getting wings (one with sauce and one dry rub), the olde oak salad, and nachos with brisket. I thought I ordered the mac and cheese add brisket but they must have mis-heard me. I went half my meal thinking I was eating some sort of mac and cheese that didn't have noodles but had a bunch of fun add-in toppings. I was very confused. And then I realized these were all of the toppings for the nachos and that's why I got tortilla chips! Haha. Anyway it all was pretty decent value. Avocado in the salad made it worth the $10+. I did see a hair in my wings upon opening the box (you can see in the photo) which was unappealing but I just tried to forget about it. The wings were really good and there were also pickled vegetables that came with the wings which was unique. Would give it a 3.5 if I could but rounding down to the hair. Glad this place exists in OTE and is a "non-fussy" place to have a few drinks and some bar food.

Great service - Dani is the best. Hope she's getting paid well. Drinks were solid, and we didn't get food so can't report on that.

Their visual chart is a…read moregodsend for cocktail explorers, and all of the drinks came out delicious and exactly as described. It's so creative, and the drinks are really the stellar stand out here. However, the atmosphere of those drinks is what gives me pause when thinking about coming back. The limited table situation, tiny cramped space, and loud music means that it doesn't feel particularly relaxing. People are constantly brushing up against you (even at 5PM), and holding a conversation at a normal distance is nearly impossible. NOTE: This place is covered in dust. No shade to the ownership as it doesn't appear to be anywhere near food prep areas (it's on the decor, on/around shelving, all over the faux plants, etc.), but if you're someone who's sensitive to dust, this is probably not a good fit. PROS: -I loooooooove how they've done their drink menu. As someone who is still exploring the potential of cocktails, their nerdy "chart" that places all of their drinks on a sweet/bitter and alcohol-forward/approachable visual chart is SUCH a help. As such, everything I ordered was absolutely amazing for me. I knew exactly what to expect from a drink because of its position on the chart, and it delivered. -Their drinks are really unique. Aqua faba? Fat washed alcohols? Lollipops or toasted marshmallows as garnishes? Super cool. Don't let some of the weirder descriptions creep you out of trying them. -All of their drinks were delicious. Everything I ordered was exactly as described. I often go places where the taste is barely related to its namesake, but they were entirely on-point here. CONS: -I'm not sure if someone called off that night as other reviewers are in love with the service, but our service was really really slow. No real rapport with the staff; just stating the name of a drink as they rushed past and then they were off to try to clean a table or take someone else's order. The drinks they made were great, but this isn't somewhere we'd go if we were in a hurry. -The pictures do not accurately convey how small this place is. Like, it's small. I'd guess less than 1000 square feet. My apartment is bigger by a lot. This isn't necessarily an issue, but it means people pile up quickly as they wait for seating (there's like 4/5 tables and then bar seating). The human walkways are small enough that the bartenders and other guests will brush against you a lot - even while seated. -I get the vibe they were going for here, but with the smaller space, I think a lot of the potential decor options had to "go" in order to fit more humans. It's giving me hardcore The Hearth Room (in Cincinnati) vibes, and I think it could honestly pull it off if it simply had more space. The "relaxed, sophisticated bourbon bar" doesn't quite come through as well when things are so focused on simply fitting in more bodies. -It's loud AF. Like, really, really loud. Between all the people and the blasting pop music, it required leaning into someone's ear in order to speak at normal volumes. We'd regularly have to pause the conversation if something in the music was building to a drop. This is not a place I'd take someone I wasn't very very comfortable with because it really requires being in someone's space to talk. -There's a single all-gender toilet here for everyone in the establishment. It's basically a revolving door of people in and out of it. The door auto-closes, however, so it's really difficult to figure out if it's open or not. There was usually a queue of people waiting in front of the door.

I'm sure some of them are batched, but they don't taste like they are. Service was excellent, as always. Endlessly knowledgeable. Small place, but never feels crowded even when full.

Pair a stop either before or after to one of German Village's great restaurants and you're in for a special, albeit pricey night. In addition to fantastic drinks, Lawbird offers cocktail tasting classes from time to time which are a fun way to get sauced early in the day. And you will get sauced. If the owners keep up the good thing they have going - this will become an iconic establishment in the city. I hope they do. I've been more than 20 times so far and never get bored. Cheers!

I have a few qualms about their…read morereservation time limit (which, I will admit, are almost entirely based on the fact I want to try MORE of what they're offering), but I readily recommend this place to people as one of the coolest cocktail bars in town. Cocktail vibe is more "laid-back friends talking over creative drinks" than sultry, romantic date spot. Tons of natural light means this cocktail bar has had some of my *favorite* cocktail bar photos I've ever taken. It's so pretty in here. NOTES: -During pop-ups, walk-ins are near-impossible on weekends and not likely on weekdays. Make a reservation if you want to make sure you'll have a spot. -No dedicated parking lot. 3-hour-limit free residential parking all around Law Bird, though. We generally have to walk 2 or 3 blocks from parking to Law Bird. Be aware this is German Village, and you're looking at cobblestone sidewalks for high heel and accessibility purposes. -Law Bird mostly has small party seating. If you have a larger group you want to seat during a pop-up, make SURE to get that reservation in early. They have the single 8-person table. -They have snackies and food. Portion sizes are small (despite what the prices may suggest), though, so this is not generally a place to eat a full meal. All of the food is super flavorful, though, so definitely a great snack to add on. PROS: -Keeping things fresh, they regularly host cute seasonal events, new drinks, and pop-up events. In recent memory, I know they've done a Cherry Blossom one, a Spooky Halloween one, and a Christmas one. -They go ALL OUT for their pop-ups. It isn't just a brand new, professionally-printed menu (no pieces of paper with 4 seasonal drinks here). It's also all of their interior decor, bathroom decorations, bartop decorations, and more. Ceiling decor too! They get all up in there. It's really fun to see the space transformed constantly. -Between the new menus and the constantly-new decorations of their space, I love regularly popping into Law Bird. -I LOVE the creativity of the menus, and I LOVE that they offer cocktail classes. (I haven't taken one yet, but I'm excited to!) The menu has unique drinks, served with unique garnishes. They have a few "sugar cocktails", but for the most part, Law Bird drinks tend to be complex and spirit-forward. -Their "themed" bathrooms (even with their own themed music playlists) make me happy. They have two unisex, single room restrooms. CONS: -If you come during a pop-up with a smaller group, they will enforce their reservation time limit of 1.5 hours. This isn't necessarily the end of the world, but the times when they enforce their limits is when they have more customers waiting - and tend to be when the place is at capacity. When they're at-capacity, the bar staff and service staff is a lot busier, with drink service taking longer and servers checking in a lot less. This means we usually only have had the chance to place 2 drink orders during that 1.5 hour time limit before they ask us to leave. This can be rough (to try most of the drinks on a limited time menu) unless you're sharing drinks with your tablemates. If you still want to continue your evening with your friends after that 1.5 hour limit, Antiques on High, Daily Growler, and Cobra are easily walkable from here. -During their pop-ups on weekends, time between placing a drink order and receiving the drink has usually been around 15 to 20 minutes. Not the end of the world as you get to socialize with friends, but again, with the time limit, that can be a bit rough.

That being said, upon opening the door we were told we couldn't come in without masks. Mine was in my pocket, no problem. I haven't left my home (in Tennessee) often enough since the beginning of the virus for it to become habit to automatically put on a mask when I get out of my vehicle. But 9/10 times I remember before entering a public place. The male bartender just seemed rude in the way he told us to put one one. I had read the raving reviews, and being a Yelp Elite myself I know I can and do trust their reviews above others. So....I was really looking forward to trying something new and enjoy watching a bartender do their thing. The bartender pointed to two framed menus on top of a cooler containing seltzer's and canned drinks, and some glass bottles of pre-made cocktails, I think. I would've appreciated the bartender ask me what I liked, and help me decide, but it was easier for him to point to the sign. Customer service absolutely sucked hippo balls. I asked if I could just order a Knob Creek and Coke in a short glass, and a Blanton's for my hubs. Sure!! What I got was a shot of each in a to-go plastic condiment container with a lid, and two big paper go cups (like Burger King) of ice, and a can of Coke, which I told him never mind I had a soda in the truck. We also got two bags of Cheeto's, to make the sale legal. So....we poured our bourbons over the ice in the paper cups. I drank a few sips of mine, yum, even in paper. My husband was just about to take a sip and noticed something stuck in his ice that looked just like a maggot. He walked back across the street and told/showed the bartender, who vehemently denied it came from the ice because it was a brand new bag. Then I noticed 3 of the maggot looking things in my ice, so I went back in and showed my husband and then the bartender. He told my husband it was probably from the citrus he was cutting on a board near the ice bin. They were frozen INSIDE the ice cubes. I'm upset with myself that I didn't take a picture of it, it was gross. I'm upset that a bartender would try to make it seem like it was nothing. After seeing it all in my ice my husband just asked for our money back, and the bartender said, "But I've already poured another." Ummm, sorry, but no thank you. He did give the refund, but I most assuredly won't give them a second chance when I visit Columbus.
