I sat at the bar, and the owner, Ben, served me himself! They have a full bar with lots of creative cocktail options, but I opted for wine. Ben happens to have a deep love of wine, and he gave me a couple of sample tastes of some of the special ones he had at the bar. We talked wine for a bit (he personally sources the wine he offers at Hereinafter from all over the world). It was such a nice visit -- just chatting about wine while drinking wine -- and definitely made my night. I like my wine dry, but I like my desserts sweet, so I got the warm peach cobbler. It was served bubbling hot in a little cast iron skillet, topped with a dollop of sweet cream. It was delicious, and it felt ultra decadent to eat while drinking wine. The atmosphere at Hereinafter is classy and cool and modern with a nod to mid-century decor (there's a plastic pink flamingo at the entrance). If you don't want to sit at the bar like I did, there are also booths and tables, so lots of places to sit and enjoy a drink and a meal with friends.

Additionally, the dish was served with only carrots as the root vegetable, whereas in the past it has included a variety of vegetables that really elevated the overall flavor and presentation. I was especially disappointed because this was actually the first time I remembered to take a photo of my meal before digging in. I came in fully intending to finally leave a glowing five-star review based on all of our previous great experiences--but unfortunately, this visit didn't live up to that expectation. This was surprising, especially given how consistently great this dish--and the restaurant overall--has been during our previous visits. We've dined here at least five times this year and even celebrated our son's third birthday here, so this experience felt out of character. One difference worth noting is that we typically visit for dinner, and this was our first time coming during the afternoon.
