I'm back with LMI after a couple of years with one of the big companies. The only reason I left was because of reliability problems with my DSL service, which was why I was excited earlier this year that LMI was rolling out fiber service in my neighborhood. It took months longer than originally planned for the fiber roll-out -- I think the delays were on the part of Sonic, which supplies the fiber infrastructure -- but it was installed this morning, within the window I was promised. I was having trouble setting up my email account, sent a help notice on LMI's site, and got a call back within the hour. Julio spent about 20 minutes on the phone with me making sure everything was set up correctly, patiently explaining options. Every service business should be this good! read more

When I moved to the East-Bay from SF two years ago, I canceled my Comcast cable TV/internet service, which - to their credit - worked fine from day one. I decided to shop for local ISPs that can satisfy my pretty basic requirements: (1) Reliably provide me with reasonably speedy DSL service at "digestable" prices and (2) be there and react if I need you to. I did this mostly because I like it if I see smaller independent businesses thrive in my neighborhood rather than being gobbled up by the large few. It means a lot to me. LMI has far exceeded my expectations. Pre-order consultation was excellent and when I upgraded to a little faster service last year, it was performed quickly and worked flawlessly; including a half month of new service for the old price without having to ask for it. Rock! I have nothing negative to say about the small subset of their services that I use. I try not to shop at Safeway, Wal-Mart and the other big and sometimes questionable large corporations. Yes, you get the best deals there, but if you shop beyond price, that's not all that matters and it may end up not being the cheapest. My time not spent on hold on a 'service' number for hours is worth a lot to me. LMI is a locally operated business that is involved in the community, I can walk into their office if I need to and speak to the folks who run it, they are solar-substituted to feed their server equipment and - as far as my own experience goes - they care for their customers and don't try to sell you things you don't really need. For that, I am happy (and fortunately able) to pay a little extra. I have been a LMI client for several years and must say, I thoroughly enjoy working with and supporting a local company that is accessible, friendly and provides outstanding service. I had recent need to solve a quirky internet signal and was patched in immediately to their support team. A series of calls were exchanged -- I had to step away at one point -- and in one instant the representative even called back! What a pleasant surprise. What probably cinched my 100% endorsement of LMI is when it was considered that a techie might have to stop by and make a house call. (It didn't happen.) But it turns out the tech gentleman was familiar with my area of residence and even walks his dogs past my house. Hard to get more personal service than this. Go LMI! read more

Customer support has been great, and the office staff is very friendly and helpful, not what one might expect from computer nerds. Over many many years, my company has gone from co-location to T1 then back to co-location with LMI. They are reasonable people to deal with, very technical (newbies beware...) and super-responsive. A couple minor burps here and there over the years, nothing dramatic and never for very long. So if you are running an organ transfer type of business or can afford the big bucks, go elsewhere -- they are not a 24x7 staffed organization. But for most of us with real businesses that need our computers daily to pay the mortgage, it is *nice* to be able to deal with humans that actually care. Same folks over the years too. Time for me to find a new ISP, so, I read the reviews, etc, and thought I'd try this place. I called the number, pressed 1 for "internet", and got some VERY strange hold music, which I ignored as best I could. When I finally got someone on the phone, I indicated that I was looking for a new ISP and hadn't even finished my sentence when they hung up on me. Call these people first. The guy I talked to actually said that, in my specific area and situation, another (named) provider would be a better choice. I don't want to name the other company here so you don't think this is spam. But LMi COULD have provided my service, just not as well because of things like our distance from them, etc. Honesty... wow. read more

My experience with LMI as a provider has been excellent. I believe I've had their service for about three years. I have the PHLO service, which includes a landline. I've lately been experiencing timeouts when using my Learning Management System (I teach). I decided to inquire about the High Speed Wireless plan and sent an email regarding pricing. I received an email back, but about 10 minutes later received a call from the individual who had emailed me. He wanted to know if I was having problems with my current service. I explained what was happening. He had already tested my line from his end (before he made the call!), and said the incoming signal was more than adequate. We then discussed other causes for the timeouts, and he said if I those avenues don't take care of the problem, that I should call tech support (this person is actually in sales). He explained that my current speed is faster than what I would have from the lowest priced High Speed (which is more costly than what I have now), and suggested that before considering a change of plans, that I work with Tech support to see if my current plan can work. I switched to LMI because of the horrendous customer service and escalating cost of my former ISP. Today was an example of incredible customer service -- proactive and knowledgeable and when did you ever have a customer service rep talk you DOWN from a more expensive plan???? read more

Upgrading from AT&T DSL is a no-brainer; I'm only sorry we didn't do it years ago. Faster internet, nation-wide calling, responsive service for $20 less than AT&T every month; what's not to like? We're in the hills, so DSL isn't blazing fast, but totally adequate. When our speed dropped, a quick email to LMi support was all it took to get someone to look at the line, find and fix a problem, and respond back. I"m very pleased. read more

Love LMI. I bought several domaine names from them. It has been so much more helpful then if I had used godaddy or one of the other giant companies. They get back to me right away. When I have questions or need help there are real humans to walk me through things. I couldn't recommend them more highly for managing website domains. read more

Ultimately this service wasn't for me. We weren't personally amazed with the service, and went another route. LMI seems genuinely interested in trying to deliver a good service at a fair price, and I wish them luck in making that happen. read more

I have used LMI for internet service. I love using a local company, I love that there are no bandwidth caps, and now that the courts have tanked network neutrality, I love that I can trust them not to mess with the sites I want to go to in a greedy grab at money from Netflix or Amazon or some such. read more

Finally a transparent internet company. I could rant for pages about Comcast but if you're reading this I don't need to preach to the choir. At LMI, real people answer the phone. They are a local company, so they don't always have people available immediately to talk to you. When they do, they are friendly and honest. There are no contracts. Pricing is significantly better than any other internet provider I have looked into, and it is straightforward without hidden fees. Since there is no contract, I asked if there were any anticipated price hikes that they knew of, and the salesperson told me that in the 15 or so years this company has been around, they have raised their prices once. By $2. When we thought about switching services, the salesperson was really honest. He seemed interested in making sure that their internet would actually work for us and what we need, not with making a sale. He even told me to hold off on canceling Comcast until we had tried out LMI for a few days. During and after installation, they have been easy to get a hold of, and very responsive to our questions. Needless to say, we're planning on being LMI customers for a long time. Huge fans already of this company and their service. read more

I was complaining to my friend about AT&T's U-verse service, customer support and cost. I also had phone minimal phone service with them, and I was still paying $35 a month. My friend told me about LMi.net. I called, they came, I'm up and running, and I now pay about $54 a month and have a land line with unlimted long distance and voice mail and ........... The day after the installation, one of their techs called to see how it was going. I did a speed test, he changed something at their end which increased my speed. The next day they called to let me know when they were porting my land line number. It was all seamless. The only bad part was having AT&T come out to correct a problem with the line from the street to the house. I need not say more. read more

I have taken multiple laptops into LMI.Net to get fixed and they have always offered me excellent service and good work. This week I had a hardware issue and within 15 minutes they fixed my laptop and said it wasn't such an easy job it was on the house. I also have had LMI.Net do data recovery for me on a defunct hard drive and clean off an old laptop for recycling. All of my experiences have been great. read more

I'm a new, and very happy, customer of LMi in North Berkeley. My apartment is at a pretty good location so I'm able to get about 10 Mbps of download speed, which is enough for me to stream in HD. It's faster than what I was getting from Comcast, and for much cheaper. It took a while to get the internet set up because of issues getting access to the phone box at my building (not LMI's fault) but they were patient with me the whole way and explained exactly what access I needed from my landlord in order to proceed with installing the service. 5 stars! read more

i signed up with comcast for their low "introductory" rate for one year. after one year the price almost doubled. couldn't get dish due to too many trees. signed up with at&t not knowing there were alternatives. when a friend recommended lmi.net. i immediately signed up since i had such poor, unreliable service with at&t. the speed is just as fast as cable, i'm dealing with a small local business and except for my landline, i don't have to support a warmongering corporation. read more

Our business uses the LMI Fiber Optic internet provided through our building (Parker Plaza in West Berkeley). I also get home internet from LMI too. It's inexpensive and straightforward when compared with our other options. Installation for both services was painless and it's easy to get ahold of someone when we have a question about our account. I just signed up for internet through LMI two weeks ago. I love supporting this local business! The staff is super friendly and everything went completely smoothly with the install. They were very flexible with my schedule (including coming out on short notice because that was my only day off.) When the tech arrived he had to crawl under my house and even had to rewire my telephone jack in the house. He was very nice and took extra time to make sure that my internet and wireless were fully up and running before he left. I got the home phone/ internet package that is a great deal for about 50$ and I didn't have to pay extra for installation or a specific router. They were able to use the equipment that I had. (Both of the larger internet companies charge for either installation or you have to buy their router so I saved around 100$ - 150$ by going with LMI) I highly recommend them! Thanks guys! read more

After explaining the lack of follow-up and resolution, he solved the "bad experience" I encountered. I have to give him credit for his timely response and taking the initiative to creatively find the work around to my issue. He presented options for an upgrade and didn't push for a replacement computer, keeping the cost below what I'd anticipated. I was getting sick of hour long calls and getting connected to operators worldwide who continuously read off scripts and couldn't answer simple questions. After looking into several companies Lmi caught my eye. Its about as local as it can be (only about 6 blocks from my house) and they've been an established company for much longer than others. I decided to make the switch a little over 6 months ago. I walked down the street and stopped in. They were very welcoming and after about 10mins. talking to the salesperson I had a new order placed. 6 months later I am a very happy customer. I approached LMI because I wanted to give my business to a local company instead of Comcast or AT&T. Although the human element was nice, and I never had to talk to a robot when I called them for tech support, I have to say that the internet service itself was terrible. It was like dial-up - videos constantly stopping to buffer, pages freezing randomly. The wireless was so slow that eventually I just started plugging my laptop into the router. Also, it took them about 3 weeks to get the internet to work at all, after I'd installed the router. The people there are really nice, it's cheap, and that's why I stayed...but you get what you pay for. There are both upsides and downsides to doing business with real people instead of corporations, I guess. read more
