Little Plearn's fresh spring rolls were the best spring rolls i've ever had and was a great appetizer. the ingredients were really fresh, the tofu in the spring rolls was delicious, and the 2 peanut sauces it came with paired with the rolls very nicely the pad thai was also really good and the portion size was very generous. we added shrimp to our pad thai (+$4) but i do wish they added a few more shrimps. it also would've been better if it had more bean sprouts and green onions. overall, it was still really good and flavorful despite the restaurant being pretty busy, there was mainly a single person taking all the orders and seating customers. i was really impressed that she was able to take care of so many things herself and could remember any requests we made the restaurant was decorated very nicely with cute hearts in preparation for valentine's day. they even had a special valentines themed drink menu overall, i would definitely recommend this place. the food is so good and felt very authentic, and the restaurant as a whole just has very chill and homey vibes read more

Pad see eww with tofu was terrific! I love this place over Imm Thai. Ingredients are a lot simpler and cleaner and the meat they use is a lot better than in most places. Their crispy fried roll is delightful. I love how this place doesn't sugar up its ingredients or go crazy on sodium. I'm here back again for some ginger delight with tofu. Food is really good but service is so terrible. If you are going here be prepared to tip the staff even if they dont do anything for you. I raved about this restaurant to my friends and I was so disappointed with the servers attitude (bc this has never happened) then when it was time to pay my friend skipped the tip option because she has cash for that . The weird server goes on and says you have to tip otherwise my manager will ask why i didnt get a tip... i just want to say tipping is a choice and for exceptional service. I've been here a couple of times and unfortunately I have mixed feelings :( First time, I had the pad see ew. It was a bit bland for my taste and overall very underwhelming. I went in willing to try other dishes and ordered the param chicken. It was covered with a lot of peanut sauce and was very sweet. There wasn't any other flavors to cut the sweetness and the vegetables didn't add much in my opinion. The Thai iced tea is yummy but a little too creamy for my taste. That being said, I had a bite of my friend's green curry & it was really spicy & delicious!! I would try this next time. The roti and mango sticky rice are also really, really good! Overall the dishes were ok at best but not very good. The thing though that gives this place a 1 star is that the beef in my noodle dish clearly was "past its prime" as in smelled bad and tasted bad and clearly was too old to be using. It was gross. The other dish was generally ok but again not great . So quality wise this place was not good. The other thing that is shocking is they calculate their "tip guide" after taxes. This is not only wrong and unethical but really unthoughtful. Your staff will actually get less as people who notice will really not like this. I've gotten Little Plearn on a food delivery app twice, and both times the food was very good. The pricing is also pretty good value. Both times I got the pumpkin curry and the pad Thai. I love the chunks of pumpkin in the curry, and the portion is generous enough that it could last 2 meals. The pad Thai is great!! I love when the noodles are drier and not orange or too sweet - it suits my tastes very well. The only minor complaint is that I've received it when green onion instead of garlic chives and a lemon instead of a lime, but it's still one of my favorite pad Thai's in town! read more

We had a nice lunch here sitting outside. We've ordered the fresh spring rolls with peanut sauce as starter. Tasted good and went down quickly as we were really hungry. Next we got the noodle salad and the papaya salad. They tasted fresh and were nicely seasoned. The lime and chili dressing was a bit spicy, but not too bad. I'm not sure if they're affiliated with my ultimate favorite Thai place Plearns, but they are giving Plearns healthy competition!!! We ordered the panang nua beef curry, A++! Super flavorful and tender, and I loved there were lots of veggies too. Cashew Chicken A+, it had a wok fried taste with loads of veggies and a perfect balanced flavor. Very different compared to Plearns cashew chicken, but I LOVED IT! It was hubby's favorite. Yellow curry chicken, was just ok. It had loads of chicken in there, but the curry flavor wasn't as deep and punchy as others I've had. I also appreciated that the packaging was appropriate and there weren't any leaks. I'm HOOKED! I might have two favorite Thai places now. I will deff be back and will continue exploring through the menu. I remember going to Plearn back in the '80's when it was in a different space on University from the one that's there now, and I don't even know if this little one on Shattuck is related to that one because there's no mention of this place on the website for the other one. Got that? Well, when I tried the original one, Thai food was still considered exotic next to Chinese or Japanese food, and Plearn was THE spot to get it. Now you can get Thai food of varying quality pretty much anywhere in Berkeley, so it really needs to stand out to have any traction in my enfeebled brain. Well, the food here is good but not transcendent. Jamie W. and I came out of the Shattuck Cinemas one recent Saturday and our peckish state led us to this compact spot across the street. We ordered pretty simply and their response was in kind. First up was of course my litmus test at any Thai restaurant, the $7.45 Fresh Spring Rolls with the requisite tofu, cucumber, mint leaves, and lettuce but with the addition of egg. It came with a sweet-and-sour sauce instead of a pure peanut sauce which costs a dollar extra (photo). They get a ding for that decision. We moved on to the $8.95 Tong Kha, a chicken coconut milk soup for two with mushrooms, onion, lime, and galanga (photo: http://bit.ly/2PYpRH1). Nicely done with a thicker than usual consistency. About 2-3 stores down, we noticed Little Plearn Thai Kitchen. They were doing dine in so we decided to eat here instead. This place did not disappoint. The only complaint was the fried rice, but that was my fault. I had ordered the spicy Thai fried rice without the spice to accommodate my kids which resulted in a bland and less than mediocre dish. One of the best Thai restaurants in the area. The vibes inside are so nice and it's a little less known than some of the other joints in Berkeley so it's easier to get a table here. I usually go for the curry dry noodles and ask for it to be made spicy. These are really good with a solid yellow curry flavor, but the sheer quantity of bean sprouts in the dish can be a bit overwhelming I've also gotten the Rad Na a few times. The gravy in it is so good but the noodles often come matted together which is kind of unappetizing so I don't get it too often. Still, the gravy is pretty tempting on its own The portions are decent here--enough to get 2-3 meals depending on how hungry you are.
