Stopped in for a sandwich on a Saturday. There was a short line. There is both indoor and outdoor seating. I got the jersey hoagie with extra vinaigrette (which they charge for). They're known for their bread but i honestly was not a fan. It was not a sandwich loaf bread by any means. It was overwhelming, to the point where next time I'd ask for extra veggies or something to offset. The bread was so dense and thick I couldn't taste anything else. I picked up a Jersey Hoagie to go today. The sandwich was delicious. But they added a mandatory 22% service charge, bringing the price of the sandwich to $22. But worst of all, there was no service. The restaurant could literally not provide any less service and still have a legal transaction. The only way they could have exerted less effort is if I assembled the sandwich myself or made my own change at the cash register. So the service fee - at least for takeout orders - seems dishonest and disingenuous. Tasty hoagie, though. At least my mouth was happy for my first and last visit. read more

My wife and I recently took a stroll around the block and decided to give Little Carmine's a shot for dinner since we were feeling mighty hungry. LC is an extension of the very popular Carmine's which is literally attached at the south end of LC. First impressions were not great as their menu was not formatted well and the restaurant interior was dirty. However, since our stomachs were rumbling, we proceeded with placing our order. Their pricing seems fair because even the smaller version of their sandwiches (they come in 2 sizes) was more than enough to fill my empty stomach. Props to the cashier that recommended the smaller size for one person. My wife got the smoked chicken salad sandwich which was quite delicious. But my biggest disappointment was in my Chicago beef sandwich. We got them "to go" so they came wrapped up in paper tissue and my sandwich was so juicy that it soaked through the paper. I believe it was the French au jus dip, but it was way overdone and the bread was completely mush. The taste was great but I'd strongly recommend serving the au jus on the side so that the bread isn't ruined. Hopeful it was just a one-off mistake, but who knows. read more

I got an Italian sub and had such high hopes. The bread is just kind of flat and squishy - not like a nice authentic italian hoagie. And I hate that there was some kind of Italian dressing on the sandwich instead of just oil and vinegar. It made the sandwich very soggy too. If you want a legit Italian sub, I'd recommend lou's Italian specialties over this place hands down. read more

I am so in love with the fresh bread but it is what's between the bread that makes it a sandwich. Simple, nothing special. The clam chowder was surprisingly good. A little lacking in atmosphere, so best for take out. Middle of ther road for me. I can't wait for you to meet her on your next visit." Seriously: if you are a carnivorous foodie, this little Italian brother to Carmine's on Penn is making you an offer you can't refuse. Forgetabout what you're doin', and go try this short-rib sandwich. They're open for lunch only. Why are you still reading? I've also tried the Italian hoagie, and it's everything you want in a hero going by such a moniker. As previously mentioned, it's such a giant stack of meats, cheeses, veggies and mouth-watering bread, that there's no chance you could ever leap tall buildings after eating it all. It's a chair. Can I give 6 stars!?!?! Do not waste your time getting any other sandwich on any other day in Denver. The sandwiches taste like they were made by a sweet but sassy Italian grandmother in the back who is yelling at you for being too skinny as she piles cheese on your chicken parm sandwich. The side salads are huge, and equally delicious. The sandwiches can feed two! The prices appear expensive until you see how much food you get! Definitely not much ambiance but I'd rather pay for delicious food than a fancy dining room. Everything about this place is focused on the food- the chefs are the same form Carmine's and they make the bread in house. Even the veggie sandwich(cue the Italian grandmother scoffing at you being vegetarian) was amazing! read more

This place is really a hidden gem. Sandwiches are big, so good value. Meatball and Italian are both good. Have used for take out and they are generally quick. I would highly recommend giving it a try. Only suggestion would be getting a true gardinere for the beef sandwiches like you get on at true Chicago style Italian beef. This is a great place for carry out or urbereats delivery. The food is delicious and generously portioned, but it's not a place for ambiance. I had the eggplant parmigiana sandwich and a side salad. The half portion of the sandwich was plenty of food. The amount of eggplant and sauce was generous and not overly breaded-- I like to taste my eggplant. The sauce was fresh. Great little neighborhood sandwich shop! I love Carmine's on Penn so Little Carmine's has to be just as good without the monster portions. I walked over from home one afternoon and was greeted by one of the owners who was also working the counter when I got there. She was very friendly and informative and told me about some of the popular items. They have full and half sandwich options. I ended up ordering the half portabella mushroom sandwich with a side of Boulder chips. The sandwich was really good, but I found the bread to just be ok. This is probably because I came in later in the afternoon, and it was not as fresh at that point. I will definitely have to try it again earlier in the day to experience the best part of any sandwich in my opinion. They have a lot of options and you can expect the Carmine's quality when you visit. They have a small patio outside of the building. It's a great neighborhood to people watch so sit outside if you can and if the weather allows. read more

For those who are very serious about their sandwiches (and there are many), Little Carmine's SERIOUSLY has the BEST SANDWICHES in Denver. Yes the pricing is not for the faint of heart, but neither is the quality as well as quantity of what of you get. The house baked rolls are super fresh and super good and all that comes literally stuffed into them is oh so delicious. On my first visit I tackled the oven roasted pork sandwich with house made day pickles. Them pickles.....oh my friggin god.....they in and of themselves made the whole sandwich experience sublime. But the slow roasted/braised pork in homemade BBQ sauce was so moist.....so tender....so melt in your mouth incredible. My only challenge was that the sandwich was stuffed so full that it made it extremely difficult to tackle it without making a complete mess of myself and the table. The meat is cubed....which is kind of strange....I'd definitely enjoy it more had it been shredded or thinly sliced. I returned just a couple of days later with a friend in tow because I'd talked up the sandwich so much that he couldn't wait to try this joint out. He had the sausage and pepper creation which rapidly disappeared in mere minutes before my eyes. And I chose the Chicken Fontina....once again a delicious mix of fresh unique flavors that I had no problem devouring. Besides the delicious roster of sandwiches Little Carmine's also has a great pasta salad that they offer on the side. It is YUMMY!!!! You can't go wrong if you try out Little Carmine's for a great noon time meal......just don't plan on eating any dinner because you will be stuffed full of goodness!!! read more

Definitely a fan of this sandwich shop. My boyfriend and I stopped in for lunch recently, and the sandwiches were delicious. I had the eggplant Parmesan sandwich, and the combo of fresh mozzarella, marinara sauce, and fresh baked bread was irresistible. I'm not always crazy about breaded eggplant slices, but the other components balanced it out. The full sandwiches are huge- my meal lasted me the entire day. The chicken florentine was delicious, just the right balance of ingredients, and the bread totally makes it come together (baked fresh daily). I didn't think this was pricey at all at $10 a pop, considering the sandwiches are big enough for two people for lunch (or save half for tomorrow). I love the sandwiches here, I think my favorite is the chicken florentine. The bread is fabulous. But the real reason I eat here is the pasta salad. It's amazing! I typically don't even enjoy pasta salad but I crave this stuff. Also while my husband does like this place he always says it's not "saucy" enough. If like him, you enjoy a lot of sauce it might be a good idea to order a side with your sandwich. read more

Bread is one of the most important components on any good sandwich. Little Carmine's definitely got it right and have made a GREAT sandwich. I ordered the smoked chicken salad sandwich and, I have to say, it's one of the best chicken salad sandwiches I've ever eaten. They smoke the chicken in house and bake the bread every morning. If any establishment takes the time to do it themselves, you know they're gonna make some delicious food. I highly recommend their sandwiches, well, at least the smoked chicken. read more

This evening, my wife and I decided to get a sandwich at "Little Carmine's", the annex restaurant located next door to "Carmine's on Penn". We ordered Italian sausage sandwiches. My sandwich was made with obviously burnt bread. When I asked the middle-aged woman working behind the counter if Carmine's had baked the bread, she took great pride in telling me that they had. When I told her that the bread was burnt, she offered to make me another sandwich with the presumably same burnt bread. When I differed, she lamely offered me a cookie telling me the store was soon closing and that they were going to get rid of their cookies. There was something deeply depressing about the whole experience. The middle-aged woman appeared to be an owner of the restaurant. It struck me that has reached the point in her professional career where she is no longer embarrassed by poor quality food. Burnt bread, oh well sometimes it happens. She should seriously consider selling her restaurant to someone who gives a damn. "Little Carmine's" is a great example of how a well regarded neighborhood restaurant slowly dies. Losing one unhappy customer at a time. Calling "Little Carmine's" an annex is a mistake. The restaurant is really an after-thought. read more

Little Carmines is AMAZING! I'm truly obsessed. Their sandwiches are made to perfection with attention to the last detail and wonderful ingredients. The owner is also so nice and very helpful when deciding what to order. She also gave me free cookies the other day, which is a plus . I can't get enough of the Italian, so I always go back for that. I have tried other sandwiches (that others have ordered) and everything I've tried is excellent. The sandwiches are also huge and could easily be made into two meals. I've never tried anything bad and I will continue to go back as often as I can! read more
