Lemoncello cake and Aperol Spritz
Alexandra E.

The ambiance is quiet and comfortable, great for meeting with friends or a quiet night out. The food was a bit heavy yet delicious. Favorite part was the service with Angel and the bread and olive oil (sun dried tomatoes/olives/garlic); delicious!

Monte Antico sangiovese wine

On Saturday I tried to have dinner without a reservation. They had 1 table for two available!! So they are remaining busy. I was served by Engjell, an long-time employee. The menu has not changed with some prices only up $1-$2 each. They had several specials plus 2 extra choices. I started with a glass of Monte Antico sangiovese. Still only $10. I compared their drinks list with my visit last August. None of the wines by the glass or their 4 house cocktails have increased. The have a full bar and 15 wines by the bottle. I chose one of the off-menu specials, a Seabass on Angel Hair pasta with a caper sauce. You can chose a small side salad or minestrone. You get complimentary bread service. I got a large piece of perfectly cooked fish on al dente pasta. Engjell came by and offered cracked pepper or grated parmesan. I asked him which white wine would compliment the fish. He said Josh Cellars Chardonnay. For dessert, I got a dish of Spumoni ice cream. A great meal. The dining area filled up while there. I saw several tables with turnover. So Bruno's is in good shape.

Sea bass picatta

A true hidden gem located off South Broadway-- since moving to Denver I always say that Denver doesn't have as many good family owned Italian restaurants like we had in the Midwest. Bruno's proved me wrong! The spaghetti and meatballs is solid, as well as the minestrone soup. But, if you're looking for something a little fancier, their specials will do the trick. I'm a huge picatta fan, and their sea bass picatta special was perfect. The lobster ravioli with Gorgonzola cream sauce was indulgent without being too heavy. Check out Bruno's for your next date night or Italian craving!

Side salad

We have only ordered take out from Bruno's, but both experiences have been fabulous. Our order was ready promptly, our special substitutions were accepted, and the food travels well/was still warm and delicious at home. One person ordered the chicken Marsala and just raved about how delicious the sauce was. Delicate, balanced, and definitely worthy of saving a piece of bread to dip in it. The chicken was perfectly cooked. The chicken piccata was awesome. I've ordered once standard (with penne) and once with a substitute with angel hair pasta. Personally, I prefer angel hair pasta so this meal was perfect. The capers, lemon sauce, chicken, and noodles were so well-balanced, every bite was fabulous. One ordered the veal Marsala and that was also expertly cooked. The garlic oil for the bread was fabulous!! I love that the bread is complimentary. The side salads are ok. Nothing exciting but at least something green. We add our own balsamic to it when we get home, but it's pretty basic and the leaves / ingredients are fresh.

I finally got to try it with my friend, and we had a great experience. The pasta was super flavorful, and the portions were absolutely huge. I loved my gnocchi so much! We split a Caesar salad (again huge portion for $10), which was a great starter. Definitely had that distinct anchovy taste that I feel other restaurants shy away from. I loved it. Service was very attentive. Our server, Alex, was kind and checked in on us often. The entire staff was so hospitable from the host at the entrance, to the server, to the others who kept checking in to make sure we had a great evening. The ambience was great. Cozy, clean, very Italian feeling. The restaurant had people in it, and it hit the sweet spot of busy but not overly crowded or loud, especially for a Tuesday night. Parking is on the street since the restaurant is on 6th Ave, but I easily found a spot and walked over. Happy to return!

I think the first couple of times I came here before the pandemic were best. Although, I haven't been back in quite some time so I'd definitely give it at least another shot again in the future. The most recent time, I just remember the bread tasting stale. I didn't like my eggplant parmesan very much, had it so much better at basically every other place I've had it, and a shrimp appetizer was sweet, which I don't want my anticipated savory food tasting sweet. Cute spot and they are often very busy on weekends.

Parking can be a little tricky, with some paid street parking and paid garages nearby. We opted for the valet, which is right at the restaurant. They validate it, bringing the price down from $20 to $15, which was convenient. It's a great spot for a nice dinner out, whether it's a date night or a night with friends. We started with the focaccia with cacio e pepe butter, and the butter was incredible. It was salty, but quite tasty. We also had the burrata, which is cheese served over focaccia breadcrumbs with a little sauce, and it paired great with the focaccia. I had a couple of martinis that went nicely with the meal, while the rest of the party enjoyed glasses of white wine. For my entree, I went with the rigatoni, which I'd heard was one of their staples. It was great. The serving size isn't too big, so I didn't get too full, but it was just enough. Overall, a very tasty dish. My fiancée got the cavatelli, a more seasonal item, and I got to try a couple of bites. It was also really good. For dessert, we had the semifreddo, a milk chocolate dessert that I honestly don't know how to describe, but it was incredible. I have a huge sweet tooth, and it was a great way to end the night, especially if you enjoy chocolate. Our waiter was great and the service was top notch. We thoroughly enjoyed our evening. Would recommend!!

The lamb ragu rigatoni was by far our favorite pasta and the seasonal risotto was okay. The only difficulty we had was getting the check. For some reason it took forever even though the restaurant had cleared out, but the food made up for it.

However, I have dined here 5 times over the last 12 months and each time I have experienced 1) servers that neglect the solo diner and 2) lazy bartenders. All five times I have gone here, to both eat and drink, I have been sat at the bar. I normally enjoy the experience of sitting at a restaurant's bar, however the experiences at Spuntino have been unpleasant. 1) When you sit at the bar, they have a server attend to you instead of the bartender standing right in front of you. This would be fine except the server still has a full section in another portion of the restaurant and they tend to forget about their customers sitting at the bar. All five times I've ate here I've constantly had to flag down my server to order, get the check, have my drink that's sitting at the bar handed to me, order another round, etc., which greatly takes away from the dining experience. This leads into the lazy bartenders issue. 2) Despite sitting in front of the bartender as they make your drink, they refuse hand you your drink once it's made and instead will walk a longer distance to place your drink on the service well where it sits until your server comes to deliver it, which in most cases has taken 5-10 minutes. So you're sitting there staring at your drink watering down because the bartenders are too lazy to just hand it to you even though the drink ticket shows that the drink is for a customer sitting at the bar. There have been a handful of occasions where I've had to flag down another staff member to ask them to deliver my drink because my server hasn't come behind the bar and the bartenders will completely ignore you when you try to get their attention. I experienced these problems the first time I dined at Spuntino, and I've tried several times again hoping the experience would be different, but each time it has been the same which has been extremely disappointing and ultimately deterred me from wanting to dine and spend my money here.
