As someone who lives down the street from Leviathon, this place should be a regular stop. The food here is decent, but as noted by many other Yelp reviewers, the customer service is dreadful, and the staff seem annoyed whenever a customer arrives. On a Friday morning, I ordered a breakfast sandwich to go and sat by the register. From the moment I arrived, it was clear the staff had no interest in engaging with customers unless absolutely necessary. People walked in and were met with silence, unsure of where to place their orders. Several customers had to ask, "Where am I supposed to order?" After waiting 10 minutes while others who ordered after me received their food, I went to the counter to inquire about my order. I noticed two staff members behind the counter chatting, seemingly oblivious to the orders being completed. Customers had to walk up to the counter themselves to check if their orders were ready, as no one was calling out names. After 20 minutes, I went up again to find out where my sandwich was, only to discover it had been sitting off to the side the entire time. When I expressed my frustration over the long wait, especially considering it wasn't even a busy morning, one of the staff members casually said, "I don't know, we just didn't call your name." No apology, no effort to make things right. read more

I finally went to Leviathan Bakehouse after having this place bookmarked for over a year. It did not disappoint! The latte I ordered was smooth. I ordered the breakfast sandwich and ended up ordering a bunch of treats. The treats taste just as good as they look! My favorite was the chocolate croissant. It was filled with chocolate and my daughter enjoyed it too! The almond croissant is a classic. The kouign-amann was buttery deliciousness. Lastly we ordered the cheesecake which was not too sweet. We'll definitely be going again! read more

LOVE this local bakery. Incredible vibe, some of the best baked goods and pastries in the city. I've never been disappointed here. Even their lattes and coffee options aren't bad for being a bakery. Great location right across the street from the Garage. Do yourself a favor and visit! read more

I visited for a friend's birthday brunch, and was pleasantly surprised by the food. I was happy to see so many sourdough bread options, and there were even gluten free desserts. They offered unique coffee drinks you don't see everywhere. At 11:30 they had both breakfast and lunch options to choose from and a full case of pastries. I loved the vegetarian breakfast sandwich on sourdough. I'll definitely be back for some bread for home. read more

We stopped in to pick up a large bread order for a private catering event today. While waiting for our order to be packed up we ordered an Early Grey oat latte, one of their seasonal lattes (can't recall the name), and a Pan au Chocolat. As soon as I snapped this picture I dove right into that croissant and I can't even describe how amazing it was. Definitely a great coffee date for a random Friday!!! read more

Leviathan Bakehouse - Bakeries Near Me - Indianapolis, Indiana

Leviathan Bakehouse is a top notch, upper echelon artisanal bakery that distinguishes itself as much better than most bakeries. The flavor profiles are both more refined and subtle when compared with offerings of other bakeries, which tend to use too much sugar. You can tell a lot of thought and care was put into the baked goods at Leviathan. A perfect example of this was the delicious Verbena Citrus tart. The cherry pastry and coffee were also amazing. Honestly, I wish more bakehouses like this existed in America. Now that I am back in Texas, I really miss this place. read more

I have to be honest. I've long avoided the strip center in which Leviathan Bakehouse is located, an awkwardly located spot with strip-front parking and a small street to its South that offers additional spots but also a location that tends to be busy in terms of traffic and not particularly wheelchair friendly. I love my baked goods, but I also enjoy living. It was never really a big deal as nothing in this spot has completely grabbed my attention - until Leviathan arrived. After an initial visit during a Yelp event, I eagerly anticipated a return despite minor frustrations and difficulties with the locale. I've decided it's easier to park along the street and simply quickly move into action during a red light than to attempt to enter one of the side spots and risk being trapped in because of accessibility issues. While I doubt Leviathan will become a regular stop from me precisely because of the parking difficulty as a wheelchair user, the truth is I'd almost consider it weird if you didn't fall completely in love with the place practically the minute you enter. The decor is awesome. The vibe is ridiculously wonderful. The employees are super friendly. The baked goods are outta this world. Leviathan Bakehouse is a fairly new, you guessed it, bakehouse that has risen to the challenge of opening during a pandemic by doing practically everything top-notch. They were initially offering dine-in, but recently announced a response to Indy's increased COVID numbers by sticking to carside and carry-out along with the usual delivery options. They're also taking orders for the holiday starting December 6th. You can order online and they do offer a rewards program. They offer breads, sandwiches, soup/salads, Viennoiserie, cookies, cakes, bakes, pastries, coffee, beverages, and some 21+ options. In terms of accessibility, the main curb cut is located at the corner of 10th & College, while the ramp entrance is at the North end of the strip center directly in front of the Hookah joint. It's a little inconvenient, but Leviathan is worth the inconvenience. Once you get inside, and the door is relatively simple, it's pretty darn wheelchair friendly and the employees are definitely wheelchair friendly. The coffee comes from locally owned Tinker Coffee Company and is wonderful. The breads/pastries are, quite simply amazing. The spiced coffee cake is, quite honestly, more satisfying than my last relationship. Seriously, Leviathan Bakehouse is the real deal and a true gem here in Indy. It's the kind of place I want to support during these hard times, because they're good people making a great product at a fair price and we need places like Leviathan to stick around. read more

My review: This is review is based off the experience that I shared with my partner, from the moment we stepped in, to the moment we stepped out. - Ambience: The furniture to the colors, to the decorations are a solid 10/10. The overall vibe is great, and you feel that this is a cool coffee shop overall. - Service: The person who took our order looked like they did not want to be there working what so ever. I first placed an order for one of their pastries then changed my mind to order a sandwich. When I told her I wanted to change my order, she just looked very annoyed. Not to mention they didn't talk at all. At all. They told us the price of the order and that was it. Could have at least say "welcome to our store". We go to a few local coffee shops to get some morning/brunch snacks and this is the first time we just felt unwelcome and felt like an inconvenience to her. Then, we receive our food. The first person who came by gave us a smile and was pleasant but the other gentleman who brought our sandwich just handed it to my partner at a distance and just immediately walked away without saying a word. Our immediate thought was "wow, they also just don't want to be here". Having been to other coffee shops our experiences are always great and at the end of the day, it isn't just the food or coffee that brings you back to the shop, but it's the people who work there too. Customer service 2/10. - Food: The pastry we enjoyed was great, and it was simple. The sandwich that I ate was plain, and it didn't have much flavor. The pastry selection is solid and there is a variety to choose from so on that front it's rated a 8/10. The sandwich, which I only ate one of their types of sandwich had ham, salsa verde, egg, bacon, and cheese. The egg didn't taste seasoned, the salsa didn't have flavor, and the choice to sandwich it between a croissant is interesting. Overall a 2/10. Changes can be made overall to better this experience, but then again, this is our opinion on our experience. We enjoy giving business to local businesses and giving feedback that can potentially better the overall experience for others. read more

If you're wondering (like I was) how to pronounce Leviathan, I'll save you the web search: Luh-VAI-uh-thin. OK? OK. Now we're all a little bit smarter and we can recommend Leviathan Bakery to others in conversation and actually say it correctly. Because you're most likely going to recommend this bakery to others -- it's just great. It's probably the best bakery in Indy, and now I won't have to drive to Bloomington anymore to get outstanding baked goods. (I still love you though, Two Sticks Bakery.) It's so great that my husband, who never uses words like "delicious," said about his breakfast sandwich: "It was delicious." They only have one type of breakfast sandwich, as far as I can tell, but really, you don't need lots of options. Just let the people behind the counter make you something delicious, because they obviously know what they're doing. The breakfast sandwich includes ham, bacon, gruyere and egg, all on a toasted croissant. I got the almond croissant for myself, and it was crispy but soft and marzipan-y on the inside. There are little candies almonds on the top. It, too, was delicious. For my kids, I got them a plain croissant and a slice of blueberry lime pound cake, which was huge and could easily satisfy two people. Both were excellent and delicious. The coffee is Tinker Coffee, and the drip coffee is bottomless if you're hanging out there. I got mine to go, and I wish I had stayed because the coffee was so good that I wanted more. I take my coffee black, and it can sometimes be a crapshoot when you get drip coffee because some places brew it so that it's way too strong and bitter (probably because most people douse their coffee with loads of cream and sugar, but that's another story). But the coffee here was smooth and balanced, and well ... it was delicious. Are you sending a theme here? There's so much deliciousness here, and I can't wait to go back and try one of their tarts or slices of cake. read more

I believe I read something about the bakehouse opening but honesty didn't think about it until I lucked out and got a yelp perk for some goodies. Since I love food naturally I had to get myself an extra treat when I visited. Such a beautiful place and all of the food and pasties are displayed so beautifully. I eye balled a few different things and finally made the decision on a lemon basil eclair. Homer Simpson drool noise, so so good, I try to stay away from the baked goods but I couldn't resist. I am very glad I chose this because it was the perfect combination in an edible form. Flat out tasty perfection, not much more I can say. This is a location that I want to come back and visit, you could read or work and enjoy the coffee, drinks, and food, as well as a very pleasant and friendly atmosphere read more

We've been coming here the past few years and now have my mom and sister hooked on it as well. The atmosphere is a perfect neighborhood coffee shop/bakery gathering place. Upon entering, you are immediately drawn to the display case of beautifully crafted, tempting pastries. And they are as tasty as they are visually appealing. The croissants are some of the best in town, flaky exterior with a soft, buttery interior. We've tried various breakfast sandwiches and all have been plentiful and flavorful. Even just their baguette and butter are addicting. The staff has always been welcoming and helpful. Today for instance, the drip coffee maker wasn't working so they subbed Americanos for us. You get a sense of pride from the team who take time to recognize their repeat customers. That repeat clientele is a testament to Leviathan's quality and service. My first time at leviathan did not disappoint! I feel weird calling it a coffee place because it has so much to offer. It has rotating baked goods and a breakfast menu. I settled for an almond croissant because they are my favorite and their midnight Ryder cold brew (blueberry oatmilk cold brew). The croissant was AMAZING. They add a hint of orange to their almond croissants and honestly...it changed my life. It was so good and well made. The cold brew had a tad too much blueberry in it. I will have to explore more of their coffee menu to make a strong judgement on their coffee selection. My sister got an iced vanilla latte and said it was her favorite latte in the city so far. Which is very high praise! I'll get that whenever I go back. The inside was clean and it smelled amazing. The baked goods alone are enough to try it out. read more

First time into Leviathan, and I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of space. It was a pretty busy Saturday morning, but we were still able to find a cozy spot to sit and enjoy our coffee and pastry treats. We went with the lemon cinnamon braid and the almond croissant. The lemon gave a nice extra touch to what would be just a solid cinnamon braid. The almond croissant was massive and had a nice crackle to it. I will have to try some of the other things in the pastry case. Just too much to choose from. Shoutout to their excellent drip coffee choices. They use Bluemind, a local roaster. A Guatemala and an Ethiopia were on drip and both are just a notch above the usual drip you will get somewhere. read more

what a great place to post up, drink coffee, eat pastries and work. Swung by here for the yelp elite 'tasting' and couldn't pass up also grabbing a chocolate croissant due to a running joke with some friends. So to recap... I ended up with a chocolate croissant, lemon poppy seed pound cake and a machiatto (sp?). Whewwwwww!!!!! :) The pound cake was most certainly nearly a pound in weight and had just enough lemon flavor/tartness and sweetness. The machiatto isn't my go to coffee drink, but had a ton of flavor even more caffeine! I was bouncing off the walls for no less than an hour! Chocolate croissant was awesome at the start.. but believe this or not, I think it actually had too much chocolate on the inner part. With that said, I'm not a HUGE sweet guy. It was baked very well, just a touch too much chocolate for me. Only minor complaint about this place is that it is a bit loud inside from the music. Would be tough to take a bunch of phone calls for work.. but a good place if you want to pop in your ear buds and knock out some work. read more

My friend and I stopped in here for a quick sweets break. The first thing I noticed were the nice tables to the left when you walked in. Definitely a great place to study, get work done, or just relax. Hopefully when things calm down I can take the advantage of that. Let's get to what's important: the selection. There was a good variety. Breads, cookies, cakes, éclaires, croissants, etc. For this trip I kept it basic and just grabbed some pain au chocolat and a pumpkin bread. I enjoyed the pumpkin bread because it was such a mild pumpkin flavor. It was definitely noticeable, but didn't overpower or anything. The pain au chocolat stole the show for me though. It was definitely a little more chocolatey than I'm used to but in this case it wasn't a bad thing at all. It was absolutely delicious. It is extremely filling though. Not sure how exactly someone could eat it by themselves, but honestly it's worth stuffing yourself for. Definitely check this place out! I plan on going back as soon as possible! read more

I was here participating in the Yelp event. This is a cool little spot located close to downtown. It has a nice coffee shop vibe and a seems like a great place to meet up with a friend. There is street parking in the front or you could party around back. I was not a fan of the macchiato. It was very strong in flavor and just did not tickle my fancy. I couldn't even finish the sample. I'm not sure what other drinks they have to offer as I did not see a menu (or maybe I missed it). As far as the pound cake, there were 3 options. The was a blueberry lime, spiced coffee cake and then a lemon poppy seedy. I tried the blueberry one. I was not a fan of this choice either. Maybe I'm a tad biased as I love my grandma's recipe of pound cake, so there's that. But I did give it a solid try and it was dry and just not great to me. I wanted to spend money here because I love to support up and coming business so I also got the lemon cinnamon roll. NOW THIS is what you need to order. First of all I love LEMON anything and paired with a cinnamon roll??? GENIUS! I hadn't heard of this combo so it was intriguing and it did not disappoint. I suggest warming it up (as I did later...not sure if you could ask for it to be warmed but they didn't offer). This was about a 20 minute drive for me so for me...I'm not adding it to the coffee shop list of must places to visit. However, if I'm in the area, I would give it another shot. I'd like another lemon cinnamon roll and try a different coffee. read more

My new Indy favorite. I went once in a Friday morning- and then I went BACK on Sunday. It was SO GOOD! And they have a great variety! They serve pastries, coffee/espresso drinks, lunch (sandwiches), desserts/cakes, and bread to take home. They even have a small shopping area with local goods like honey and tee-shirts. Both times I've gone, the staff has been incredibly nice. I got the elote danish both times because I couldn't stop thinking about it after the first time- it is perfect and I hope they never stop serving it. My party also got the quiche (it was so good), the blueberry lime loaf, and the almond croissant. They heat your food up for you if you need and send you on your way! There is outside seating available and to-go options. All the staff was wearing masks and we felt very safe inside while waiting for our food. I've stopped in so many times for coffee and took it to go, never disappointed. but i continually hear soo many good things about the pastries! well I've finally went all out and had a girls day lunch date with my little niece. she had the hot chocolate which she liked, and a ginger milk chocolate cookie, which she happily broke in half to share. when she picked this cookie I was unsure for her because of the ginger, my niece is 6, but to my surprise her eyes popped open and she had a big smile on her face and said "this is good, yum!" and she wasn't wrong. we shared the jambon beurre which came with a light side salad, the butter was full of flavor and so creamy, perfect size for sharing! we took home for my spouse the saag paneer Danish, my husband loved it. he said the spice was just right. my niece and I were able to park right out front. we sat at the window, which provided a nice view for people watching. the staff was kind and patient, especially as I was with an indecisive 6year old who thought everything looked good. the cashier also brought our food to us and gladly put our drinks in to go cups instead of the dine in cups, per my request. great way to spend small business Saturday and leviathan rocked it! read more

Love their food offerings and the ambiance of this place. Great casual setting for such high quality baked goods. 5 stars - Milk bread. What is this...magic? The fluffy texture, subtle sweet flavor, and pillowy bites make you forget you've already had 3 slices and you're going in for more. The crust too has a dark bake to it that compliments the interior flavor. 5 stars - Croissants. I've gotten the butter and the everything croissant. And it's flaky, crispy, and buttery. Highly recommend. 5 stars - Chocolate chip cookie. Only the best I've found in Indiana. It's got such a good cookie-kinda chew to it. And the chocolate-y-ness of it. This was a "I'm going to share it with others when I get home, but... I finished eating it in the car before I got home, whoops" situation. What can I say about leviathan except they are fantastic in every way possible. They do a perfect job of mixing artisan and standard baked goods. Nothing feels unnecessary or extra and some of the speciality items during holidays are almost too pretty to eat. The price might be a little more than a standard bakery but the journey your taste buds go on is absolutely worth it. I got the croissant, sweet danish with a dandelion-glaze, and prinsessa. If I had any poetic ability I could write a sonnet about the croissant but instead I'll just say it's simply the best croissant I've had. It's the perfect mix of light and airy but yet maintains an amazing crunch. I easily found and ate every crumb. The sweet danish is made from their croissant dough so it was an quick yes from me to add it to the order. It tasted wonderful with the same qualities as the standard croissant with an added subtle sweetness with the glaze. The prinsessa pastry was also great with a nice raspberry flavoring and each layer working independently as well if you split it up. The whole crew there was friendly, kind, and helpful. Loved the vibe with the employees being very much themselves joking with me as soon as I walked in at opening and they were still prepping. I'm always a fan of a business that allows their employees to be themselves and not a have a "customer service" voice/persona. Yum!! My first time at leviathan and most certainly not my last. There's so much seating here, it's very spacious without losing the warmth that comes with a bakery. Plenty of people were working on their computers here as well. As you can see, I dug right into my croissant! It was tasty. It was crisp on the outside and deliciously moist on the inside. I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of chocolate inside, as oftentimes these croissants don't have much. The raspberry brioche danish was also fantastic. The raspberry and cream cheese filling was such a pleasant pop of flavor, and I loved the goat cheese twist to a classic pairing. YUM. The croissants are a mess to eat, which means they were perfectly flaky and butter and savory!! The French baguette had a crunchy and harder exterior but the inside was soft and fluffy. I have yet to try the sourdough loaf. Just pressing down on it you can tell it's so soft on the inside - and it's massive. I was nervous I'd have trouble with parking when I arrived but there were plenty of open spots on the street. First time stopping in Leviathan after many recommendations! It is right around the corner from The Garage/end of Mass Ave. On a crisp fall Sunday morning, it was fairly busy. I drooled at most of the pastry case and wish I had grabbed a few more things, but didn't since we had plans after. I opted for the Everything Croissant and this was delish. The inside was buttery and flaky, and the top was dusted with the seasoning. My boyfriend got the cinnamon lemon pastry which he enjoyed as well. We both got seasonal lattes, but they weren't our favorite in the area. We would be up to try something different next time, but I do want to come back to try that breakfast sandwich or other pastry items!
