My husband (fiance at the time) and I came to Le Reminet for our celebratory dinner after he proposed at the Eiffel Tower. Though we didn't have reservations, we were lucky to have been seated right away as they had a table for 2 ready when we got there. Service was excellent and food equally good! Our favorite dish from the entire meal was the pan-seared foie gras. It was crispy on the outside and each bite melted in our mouth. He got the steak and I ordered the sole. The steak presentation was beautiful and creative and had a great sauce. The sole was a little on the fishy side but it had a good risotto accompaniment. Dessert was absolutely divine! The staff, and Norbert in particular, were very, very good to us. I would recommend going with a group of 4-6 people, ordering the tasting menus, and making an evening out of it. It is truly an unforgettable experience. Ask to be seated in the wine cave below the first floor....very intimate, beautiful setting. The purple french bistro, I just fell in love with this place when my cousin took me for the first time. Informal dining with fine dining dishes served by professional and efficient waiters. As soon as you enter you feel the warmth and charm of the place. I still laugh with my cousin about when she had asked the waiter, after ordering, to tell the kitchen to make sure that the food comes out quickly because we had an appointment to make. The waiter responded that this is not a fast food restaurant and if we wanted food immediately we should eat at McDonald's. Others may take that as being rude, we just accepted it as the restaurant taking great care in producing delicious meals and ensuring that we took the time to enjoy the experience instead of scoffing it down. We ordered the fixed price menu, with a choice of entree, main, and dessert. I picked the beautifully cooked scallops which had a nice crust on the outside and was tender and creamy in the middle. For mains, my steak was cooked perfectly rare with a side of french fries and salad and I ended my meal perfectly with a creme brûlée. I forgot what my cousin had, as I was too distracted with my own meal and we missed our appointment as well but it was well worth it. This place is pricey, but the food is wonderful. The foie gras appetizer is simple but delicious - served with toast points and a fruit jam (fig?). My scallops were perfectly cooked and served over a bed of really flavorful rice. The wine list is great, if expensive. The atmosphere is also really nice - the upstairs fills up fast, but they have additional seating downstairs in what must have been a wine cellar at one point. Very cool. read more

This is a really hidden gem! Just around the corner of some of the most touristy parts of Paris is this really amazing little restaurant. The lunch menu for around 15 EUR has to be one of the best value lunches in all Paris. I have lived a year in Paris and I haven't found better value then this. read more

OUI! OUI! Très magnifié !! We came to this lovely little (and I mean TINY) gem on a recommendation from a friend. And boy did we score big! If you go no where else in Paris, go here. It's a bit tucked away, which is perfect, and quite intimate inside, and has a lot of atmosphere. My boyfriend is half French, and has lived in Paris on & off throughout his life, but had never been here. He was game to try it out, and again - we're SO glad we did. We were seated for lunch in the wee main dining room where there are about 8-10 little tables. There is a daily specials menu hanging up on the wall, above the bar, which honestly, is difficult to read....not because it's only in French (though that makes it tricky, if you don't speak the language) but because it's written in chalk, on a blackboard, and not very clearly. It's also a bit dark in the room (which we love & prefer), but makes reading menus challenging. Before starting the meal, we went with a kir royale (champagne with cassis liquor - SO yummy!), and then with our meal, we ordered a very nice red wine (Saint Stephane, perhaps?). I had the pre-fix menu for 45E, which includes an appetizer (entreé), entree (plat), & dessert. For my appetizer, I very much enjoyed the oysters! WOW! easily the best I've ever eaten...too bad I forgot to ask where they were from, because....wow. For the plat (please see my photos), I chose the grilled cod & octopus, with grilled Mediterranean veggies, herbed chick peas, and chick pea pureé. It was fantastique! Now, I'm not much of a dessert kind of gal, but all it said on the menu was...Champagne, chocolate, et cassis. (which is black current - one of my favorite flavors, and a very popular flavor used in French cuisine) And that is all it needed to say. Bring. it. on. Check out the photo, because this was a masterpiece. The focus of the plate was a scoop of dark chocolate 'gelato' that had been infused with cassis and I've never tasted anything like it. It was amazing, truly. also, on the plate, were little rough, chocolate cookie 'drops', tiny scoops of champagne sorbet with little cassis gel 'discs' on top, dark chocolate drips (there's a name for this which escapes me at the moment, sorry), a couple fresh blueberries, and blackberries, and a dark chocolate tuile (which is like a lacy, translucent, flat, cookie 'bark'), champagne foam, and cassis mousse, and a bit of something like lemon verbena leaves. It was the bomb. Hands down, the best dessert I've ever had. Not too sweet, or too, anything. Parfait! My BF had the steak & potatoes (done perfectly, as well), and followed up with the post meal cheese plate - spot. on. We had the 'obligatory' café, after the meal, and where in heaven. By the way, the menus they hand you, DO have English translations inside. It's very 'user friendly', and the (very young, and very handsome) wait staff were delightful. Not snobby in the least. A charming cozy restaurant in a very touristic area but since it is not the least expensive to eat here, and the menu is not catered to tourists, it is worth a visit! The 10-table restaurant quickly filled up with well-heeled tourists starting from 7:30pm, (the locals show up at 10pm!) the owner and wait-staff were very welcoming, helpful and personable, and although the menu and the day's specials are handwritten on the board way in the backwall (baby-boomers may need to bring along binoculars!), the wait-staff are comfortable with translating the offerings in English. I can't remember the name of the dishes we ordered, probably two of the most expensive on the menu! An appetizer of octopus which came with thin slices of a dry-cured meat, more like duck, on a bed of a greens and a flavorfully olive oil-soaked toast drizzled with a delicious dressing. The plating was beautifully presented. The main dish was pork cooked in 2 ways, I believe one was a piece of roasted pork loin chop which was moist and tasty, and a piece of belly topped with a crispy crackling skin, yum! The plating came with a 2 pieces of polenta and drizzled with a glaze, not too sweet, and not too salty. We washed everything down with a bottle of Cahor from the SW of France, and finished the meal sharing the dessert of the day, a so-called cheesecake, topped with fresh blackberry halves, sliced strawberries, a spoonful of cumin ice cream, a small container of delicious confit of sour cherries, all garnished with bright red fresh currants. The cheesecake was light but not your typical New York cheesecake, but after a wonderful first and main course, it was a sufficient finish to a satisfying meal! It's modern moderately high cuisine but not something your grandma would serve but at an acceptable price range for people looking for competent French cooking, friendly owner and wait-staff, and a dinner to remember Paris by! Had lunch there today with a party of seven. They were very accommodating at squeezing us in as it was peak lunch hour and they were pretty busy. The service is excellent!!! Only one man working the front and he was a veteran waiter! Superb! We all had different combos of the price fix lunch and it was fantastic. Three courses for 19.50 euros. What a deal. The starters were both to die for. The main plates were fish or lamb chops. Those who had fish loved it. The only complaints were from a few who had the lamb chops. They were delicious with a savory rich gravy but we each had one tender yummy succulent chop and one that was a little fatty and tough. The desserts were above and beyond. The panecotta was the best ever and also an excellent cheese plate. The dinner menu is about twice the price so go for lunch and go hungry! I found this restaurant on Yelp. It had a 16 rating but to me it was #1. They open at 1930. I recommend making reservations since it is so tiny and would fill up quickly. We luckily got there early, right when it opened, so they accommodated a party of 3. They speak English, which is helpful since we are only in Paris for 24 hours. We had Champagne to start, wine with dinner, and liquors with dessert. All recommended by the staff. We had oysters(a must!) and I had salmon. All done mouth-wateringly well. This review is only for the terrific value lunch special, 14.90€ for entrée, plat, and dessert. Choices are limited, two entrées and two plats, and either dessert or cheese - I think the offerings change often. We had: Tartine with basil pesto, tomatoes, quail egg, mini endives, and grilled calamari, all the components were very good and complemented each other well. The calamari were tender and the bread base was pleasantly soaked in the (balsamic-based?) sauce. Swordfish with ratatouille was basic, but well-prepared. Liked the ratatouille, which I think had been flavored with orange peel, and the sprig of dill was refreshing. Would have liked to see a thicker cut of fish so that it could be cooked to a lesser degree. Remember, the French may prefer their steaks bleu, but when it comes to fish it'll always be well-done. Tried a piece of the rumpsteak, perfectly cooked through to a medium-rare, a little more tender than I'd expected and a generous portion as well. Dessert was definitely the most adventurous: curried pineapple ravioli with what I believe was coconut tapioca and little dollop of flowery (verbena?) sorbet. A strange dish for sure, but the individual components are quite good and at least sort of work together. Very inventive, not much use describing it, the dish was just one of things you have to taste and decide for yourself whether you like it. Service was excellent without being pushy. read more

It was a rainy Sunday when we ducked into this delightful restaurant. Initially I was hoping to be seated in the first floor dining area, but when we were led down to the cellar room I quickly changed my mind and decided that the lower level area was infinitely more romantic. We were surrounded by tables of French speaking patrons, so we don't share the others' sentiments regarding the place being filled with English speaking diners. There are two menus, the daily special menu (written on a chalkboard) and the standard menu. The menu is seasonal, so when we were there it mainly consisted of fish and duck. We ordered two appetizers (scallops & foi gras plate), two entrees (duck l'orange and scallops/risotto) and two desserts (both chocolate mouses) and one bottle of wine. Met my daughter, her husband two friends and my wife for dinner. This was on a narrow street near Notre Dame so the area was quiet. We were seated promptly in the Cave (basement). Other reviewers thought it was damp and musty but I found it cool and charming (my wife tought it smelled like an old basement.). It was definitely quieter than the dining room above but I would recommend the upstairs dining room. Wine recommendation was great. The service was fast and friendly. (But my daughter and her husband are fluent in French. ) Very innovative presentation of all the dishes. Obviously some were better than others. The fois gras and gazpacho appetizers were excellent; the lobster 'ball' special, the sea bass and squid carpaccio and the pork loin were delicious, but 2 diners described the regular steak as 'chewy' (who orders steak at a French restaurant???). My wife and I selected Le Reminet for our 25th wedding anniversary meal, and we were not disappointed. The atmosphere was candlelit and cozy, and the meal was a multi-stage celebration. We started out with champagne, which was available by the glass. Our server recommended a good wine pairing with both our appetizers as well as our entrees. I studied abroad in Paris for a month, and as a student, it was rare for me to go to these kind of restaurants to spend at least 10€ on a meal, but for experience and to satisfy the foodie in me, I went out 1-2x a week to restaurants like these. Of course, I would go with research. I found Le Reminet here on yelp, tripadvisor, and other sites and found it to have great reviews. After looking at its location, I also found that it's only a few meters away, literally on the same street, as my study abroad program's office, ISA Paris. So, that's a huge plus! Location: Unlike what the pictures show, Le Reminet's exterior is no longer in purple. They seem to have moved next door with red exterior as their previous purple location is still present, just empty. It's a tiny, tiny place. It does well for intimate dates and gatherings but not with too many people. This is one of those eateries in France , where you can't be too icky about sitting so close to the guests next to you. It's down a tiny street that runs parallel to the Seine and faces out to the Notre Dame. Service: AMAZING. Have I mentioned how I'm a student? I'm also sort of a loner, I suppose, and mix that together, I usually get even worse service than others because servers just assume I don't have money and will cheap out on everything. It's partially true, but when I want to spend, I'll spend... especially for food. The owner and the servers all treated me so nicely. Not at all like the usual French service of "What you want? There you go. Try to get my attention when you're done." I think the small space helped, but the servers and the owner would go around asking how's your food, would give you various recommendations from the chef, SPOKE ENGLISH, and was very accommodating. I seriously challenge you to find better service in Paris! Food: OH! TO DIE FOR. I am not a fan of French food. I will say that out right. It always made it harder for me when searching for good places to eat and wanting to try French food because I just could not get into it. BUT THIS PLACE. Chef Ponchet knows what he's doing. Whatever the chef recommends on your visit, please just take it. So delicious. I had the salad first, and it was alright, but I got the fish and squid entree, and I thought I was going to melt from its goodness. I asked what kind of fish it was, and I can't remember now, but it was supposedly a fish you can only find in the Mediterranean. After, I had a raspberry, ice cream sort of cake, and that was just so amazing as well. I didn't have wine, so I can't speak for their selection of wine, but a table across from me had red wine, and I was so tempted to just grab their bottle because the scent of their wine kept wafting over to me, and it smelled so, so good. It smelled of chocolates. Is that weird? Haha! Price: WORTH IT. I went for lunch, but I didn't go for the special price of 15€ for a 3 course meal, but I did take a peak of it, and the selection for that price was awesome. Definitely recommend trying it for that price. I personally made reservations at thefork.com. Definitely check that site out because Le Reminet usually has some sort of deal if you make reservations there. I got 50% off, making my meal 31something€ instead of 60something€. I feel that the original price definitely made up for this great restaurant experience. Overall, you won't find better service in Paris, and the food is so, so worth the price. I usually leave grumpily from a Parisian restaurant if not for the price or the food, but I just left smiling to myself from this place. It's that good. What a great food experience! In the USA, sometimes we hear about aloof French restaurants but this couldn't have been more opposite. So glad that a friend tipped me off to this great restaurant just steps from the Notre Dame. We were told to go there for the lunch menu, but we were too tempted by the regular menu. Everything I ordered (halibut carpaccio, steak with polenta, and a berry and vanilla millefeuille for dessert) was excellent. The service was great (english spoken), and the ambiance was charming.
