We were visiting the Musee Carnavalet and wanted to try a local restaurant when we found Le Coupe Gorge ("the Cut Throat"). It is a small restaurant - two floors with maybe 7-8 tables upstairs and a few on the ground level. Don't be put off by the very small frontage on the street, the restaurant goes well back and has a reasonable amount of seating. We beat most of the lunch rush and were shown to the best table - on the window on the second floor (le premiere etage). After COVID and with all the concern about flu, it was nice to dine in a small restaurant where the tables were well spaced and we didn't feel crowded by the other diners, even after the restaurant filled (within 30 minutes after we arrived). The specials are presented on a chalkboard, with prix fixe lunch options at 18-26 Euros and prix fixe dinners from 22-35 Euros. We both started with a Kir Royale (how else to start a mean in France?). We weren't very hungry, so we went right for the mains - I had the cote de boeuf (one of that day's specials), and my wife had a chicken special. The beef was very well flavored, but not quite the highest quality (e.g., not U.S. Prime). The taste was delicious, but a little chewy. My wife said the chicken was excellent and she finished every bit. The cooked vegetables accompanying were done perfectly and very tasty. The small fried potato wedges were especially delicious. The portions are generous, the prices were quite reasonable, and the service was outstanding. Highly recommended - great little find on a side street. read more

Dinner last night at Coup Gorge was a Tour De Force. We walked up a few minutes early for our 730 reservation, and the chef, sitting out front, asked us to kindly come back in a few minutes as he was preparing for service. We took a quick walk around the neighborhood and came back to the appointed time; we were whisked upstairs to a very cute cozy dining room with a table right next to the windows. The restaurant features a standing menu, and an outstanding blackboard list of specials. We mixed and matched. I ordered the foie gras terrine, and she had a fried brie platter that was out of this world. The foie was a lovely portion with caramelized onion jam and balsamic reduction. The fried cheese was served with apples sauteed in calvados. For our mains, we chose a duck breast a l'orange and a chef special meatball with tomato sauce. Both were outstanding. For dessert we shared a chef's special pain perdu topped with chestnut puree. Washed it all down with a lovely bottle of Chablis. Total for dinner with wine was 125 euro. My boyfriend found Le Coupe George from a travel YouTube video. We wanted to check out the Christmas market at L'hôtel de Ville, so going to the restaurant worked out since it was a 3 min. walk away. I made reservations for 7:30pm on a Wednesday when the restaurant opened. We arrived a little early, but we were seated right away. Customer service was excellent. It appeared that there was one server and the chef, who was also serving us. They were both very nice and explained everything to us. Despite being a two-man show, food came out promptly. Food was delicious. We had duck foie gras to share, which was so creamy and fatty. For our entrées, we both got the duck breast in orange sauce. I loved everything about this dish. It was very balanced with a side of garden salad, crispy fried potatoes, sautéed root veggies, and the duck as the protein. The duck was perfectly medium rare, and the sauce had a nice hint of Orange. Before we left the restaurant, the chef offered us a free sample of pistachio nougat that he makes himself every day. It was THE BEST nougat I've ever had. It was so chewy and soft, which was 100 times better than the hard and sticky kind I've tried back at home. read more

Highly recommend this French restaurant if you are around the area. Our airbnb was very close by, so it was a walking distance here. After reading the wonderful yelp & travel advisor reviews, I knew we had to come here. The restaurant is located inside a shop on the 2nd floor. Staff (owner/chef & both the waitresses) were super friendly, very attentive and very generous with their service. The complimentary baguette, sliced cured ham & nougats were very delicious! We ordered to share: 1) oxtail tartine, 2) terrine of duck foie gras, 3) mushroom cassolette, 4) duck leg confit, 5) fish of the day (trout), 6) chocolate souffle. All the food was delicious so I couldn't just pick one favorite (trust me). The appetizers (oxtail tartine, terrine of foie gras, mushroom cassolette) were really fantastic and a must order! The duck leg and trout entree was exceptional too (super tender and full of flavor). P.S - They have english menu and the staff also speaks both english and french. My husband and I had such a lovely lunch at Le Coup Gorge. From the moment we walked in we were happy greeted by lovely servers and were seated immediately. Glad we arrived at the time we did because it quickly became a full house packed with locals on lunch break. We did not have reservations we did however arrive at the right time, before the crowd came. There were maybe a few tourists dining in, for the most part we were the token tourists in this restaurant. We absolutely adored our server, she was so helpful and on top of it. She made the perfect recommendations and made sure we were happy with everything. I ordered the Duck Confit served with potatoes, side salad and veggies which was by far one of the best I've ever had. If you're searching for a duck confit then I strongly recommend this restaurant. The taurine was amazing too! For vegans and vegetarians there is a mean pasta dish that was huge and packed with fresh veggies. Lastly we had their famous nougat and chocolate soufflé. The desserts were just as well done as the entrees. Definitely order the chocolate soufflé it is to die for, it takes ten minutes to make and it's not huge but just perfect for two. Everything made at this restaurant is made with fresh ingredients, skills and lots of care. I had fun reading the French menu but eventually had to just read the English menu. Very well put together menu with a few select classic dishes and a large wine list. We dined in the main area which is upstairs. There's a cute little window area with a nice view but we opted to sit in a cozy area away from the window. Teal interior with artwork and fine velvet seats. What makes this place special is the quality of their food and the flavors. You can tell this chef and everyone who works here is genuinely passionate about fine dining. They make everything in house with rustic real ingredients. I think the chef might have peaked out when we were leaving to check out his clients. This was an excellent unforgettable experience. I can't recommend this place enough. Price is reasonable for the quality, around €30 per person with tip and tax. Expert tips: make a reservation OR arrive early before the lunch rush. Tiny place with one server and chef but they treat you like you are a guest in their home. Prices are beyond reasonable ($20-$35 for 2-3 courses prix fixe), food is delicious, and portions are uncharacteristically large for Paris. We had the sunchoke soup, vegetarian orichette, and veal osso bucco. Great wine recs by the chef himself. It is off the beaten path and doesn't have the charming view for outside seating as other cafes in the area, but the food is so worth it. read more

Ahhhh I love it here... A word of warning, this place gets packed during peak hours like lunchtime. I had a reservation and arrived 15 minutes late due to metro mix-ups and they could not accommodate me because it was packed. So I made another reservation for dinner on a weekday night. Surprisingly, there was not a single soul there besides our party. But after about an hour or so, people started pouring in. We were sat on the second floor and the server was friendly in explaining what they were currently offering. She was thorough, straight forward, and blunt. I ordered the pork rib meat with potatoes. I also had it with an entree, salmon tartare. I really loved this little dish because it had grapefruit, avocado and fresh salmon cubes. And the main dish was just TOO MUCH GOODNESS. The meat was so tender, so flavorful! The potatoes went well with it too, hot and cooked through and through. My tastebuds were doing somersaults and flips. A different server came by every now and then to check up on us. For dessert, of course, I had the chocolate soufflé......sooooooo amazzzziinnngggg. I loved it so much, I could've eaten 12 of those things. A superb meal for a reasonable price. Ambience was delightful and overall, a marvelous experience. We went to quite a few restaurants while we were in Paris. For tourists, it seemed like every restaurant was the same... duck confit, beef bourguignon and escargot. Rinse and repeat. We went to one of those same restaurants and luckily they ran out of duck confit. We didn't like anything else on the menu so we walked around the area and found this gem. First off, the food is amazing. Everything was incredible. Fois gras, duck a la oranj, confit... you name it. Second, the people who run this joint are the best. So nice and welcoming. Excellent cuisine just a few minutes walk from Notre Dame and Le Tour St Jacques. Staff was very friendly and patient with our limited French skills. Most of the seating is in a quiet--and smoke free--space upstairs. We split an eggplant and beef dish. On our way out they had us sample a fresh confection the chef had just made. This review is long overdue. I came here in May of 2014 and it was definitely one of the most memorable experiences. The food was delicious but more so than that the waitress and chef were so lovely. The waitress walked us through each item on the menu and made recommendations. After we finished our meal, we chatted with the chef who offered us some of his homemade nougat (delicious!) and Venezuelan rum. Please come here and support this business. The contrast of the cold creme against the hot soufflé was heavenly. The soufflé was tall and light and chocolatey and delicous. Wow. Just wow. My girlfriend and I Yelped French restaurants and Le Coupe Gorge came up highly rated so our expectations were high. They were exceeded. Everyone who worked there - from the hostess to the servers to the chef himself - was exceptionally attentive and friendly. It was very clear that providing us with exceptional service was their goal. Of course, most importantly the food was out of this world. We started out with fried brie and pairs. I knew I'd like it because I love brie, but my girlfriend was skeptical. They won her over after one bite. We followed it up with a seafood special (gf) and duck leg and potatoes (me). Neither of us said more than ten words while we ate - it was that good. We finished off with a selection of pastries and cafe and free shots of rum. Top notch experience. This was a place we stopped off for lunch after visiting the Notre Dame. I was lucky to find it on Yelp as I was trying to avoid all the touristy dining. Cute restaurant/bar with very friendly owner. She knew right away we couldn't speak a lick of French, but she was willing to try her best at the English language and help us order. She grabbed a board that had some specials. I can't recall exactly what we ordered but the summer squash soup was delicious. My wife's salmon was cooked perfect and delicious. I had a steak and it was very good. Don't skip the dessert because it was awesome! Up to that point of our vacation, I was pretty down on Parisian cuisine. This was one of our better meals. My wife and I had been in Paris for almost week on our honeymoon and had eaten at restaurants that were near Parisian landmarks. Since we wanted to visit the Pont Marie, we looked for a restaurant near there and found Le Coupe Gorge. We were warmly greeted by both the server and chef who we learned are brother and sister. Their English was much better than our attempt at French, but they were very patient and explained the meals very well to us. Our experience here was fantastique! The food was very fresh and good, very authentic. This was my first time experiencing fois gras (which I found to be very good but rich), and we both ate every bite and cleaned the plates for them. Our meals included an appetizer (fois gras and the sardines a la provencal), main course(roast beef and white fish over vegetables and broth), and dessert (ice cream, fruit, and warm cream and some puff pastries with Chantilly)...all three courses were amazing and worth the price. We had a phenomenal experience at Le Coupe Gorge tonight, our first evening in Paris during the last leg of our honeymoon. Despite knowing about 5 words of French between us, we were very warmly welcomed by both our waitress and the chef. The menu was entirely in French, but our funny and kind waitress took the time to translate it all for us. She was lovely. We had the salmon tartare for an appetizer, which was divine. Our dinner was excellent, and desert was even better. As we were about to leave, the chef had complimentary shots of delicious Argentinian rum poured for us. It was such a genuinely kind and gracious gesture -- it sealed the deal as one of our favorite meals throughout our entire honeymoon. We would definitely highly, highly recommend it! read more
