Seat from the end of the bar - which I was very lucky to have and couldn't have been made to feel more welcome - despite having no res.

I've been involved in, either financially or as a patron, multiple restaurants and have traveled the world prioritizing one-of-a-kind dining experiences and this was a Top 5 overall experience. From the staff, through the ambience and clientele - this restaurant has an energy and vibe that's difficult to create and even harder to do in night in and night out. Other reviews seem to confirm what I experienced, so I can only assume the consistency is there - but the authenticity of the staff and the "this is what I'd consider my perfect local restaurant" (if I were so lucky to live here) leaves no doubt that what I experienced is the real deal - no facade - an almost perfect dining experience! The food was exceptional - artichoke appetizer was incredible, a sharable monster with a perfect preparation. The Coq Au Vin was some of the best I've ever had. The friendly introduction of wine (rose) upon walking into the door as well as the consistency of the service and the casual "we're here to eat, drink and enjoy life together" service from the staff put the experience into the stratosphere. I hope this place never changes, I will seek it out every time I'm in Paris, and I only hope it doesn't become such a destination for visitors that it makes it tough for the locals to enjoy what is obviously a restaurant that should be coveted by any regular - of which I can only assume there are many.

Wine suggested by our waiter. Good choice!

OMG, so good! Got this recommendation from a friend who has traveled frequently to Paris and he was spot on. I had my hotel make a reservation a week in advance. Originally wanted to dine here Saturday night, but found it it is closed on Saturday and Sunday. So I made my reservation for Friday night. Chez Marcel is very close to the metro. We arrived a few minutes late, but no worry, table was waiting for us. Service was quick, professional and timely. I had confusion over the wine list and told our waiter what type of wine we liked. He suggested a particular wine and quickly we were drinking a great wine. My spouse asked me if if I asked the price before agreeing to the bottle, I said is the wine good, she agreed it was..the price turned out to be 50E, a good value IMO. We split two appetizers, snails and a special offered that night. Very good portions. I had the duck and my spouse had the daily fish special. The Duck was amazing, maybe the best I've ever had. We shared an amazing homemade dessert...the entire meal was a 10 out of 10. Place is small, but sound wasn't an issue. Bathroom is through the kitchen :-) We talked about coming back here for another Paris meal during our trip...so yes it was that good. Enjoy!

Pistachio stuffed sausage (with exquisite potatoes) and the artichoke in vinaigrette.

C'est magnifique! Wife and I dined at this Parisian jewel tonight, and will be back. Pierre and staff were welcoming and pleasant, patiently helping us interpret the menu. Small restaurant environment, but with a diverse menu. Started with artichokes in vinaigrette along with the pistachio sausage (with potatoes). All very good , but potatoes were a show stealer. Entrees of veal chop and filet au poivre. Wife said it was the best steak she's ever had. Meal accompanied by a delightful Cote D'or. Desserts of Mille feuille and a tart with pralines. Both were phenomenal. Had champagne (by the glass) and a wonderful 12-year-old Armagnac. Everything I could have asked for from a Parisian meal. Kudos to Pierre, and we will likely go back when we pass back through Paris. Bon appetit!!

Marcel himself is about 85 now and went in for dinner last week. He's not really a chef but more a lover of the cuisine and opened the restaurant in 1919. We were on our honeymoon from Colorado and just so happened to rent the flat (400euro) just across the street. Every night around 11 we would return and walk right by the little "Chez Marcel". And every night i peaked in the split of the red curtains inside the doors. Each table was full and everyone was talking and the waiters were laughing. It seemed rich with homeyness and story telling. We had to go so we saved it for the last night. The hours read for breakfast and dinner. I can't remember the breakfast times but dinner was m-f 2130-2300. I thought dinner started at 7 (2100). So I walked in and the staff of about 8 was sitting down for a family dinner before the night. It was warm and filled with nacks of history. Pierre the manager, a high energy but gentle man came up excited to see me. "We start at 730" he smiled as if there would be a party. "Will you be back? Do you wish to make reservations?" Yes 730 I replied. Boom he wrote it down and gave me a salut as he went back to dinner and they all smiled. We returned promptly at 730pm the place was alive and spry just as we had seen it every other night. Pierre subdued us with his bold humor and wit. Everyone was very attuned to every need and not in an annoying fashion. We started with the chef's choice bird and the deer with house red wine. You can get a glass, a pitcher or a bottle. The pitcher is a wine bottle with extra glass filling the bottom. Our meal was brought out in the brass pots fresh off the stove. Amazing wine sauces. And the wine cellar was through a secret door at the end of the bar table. Homemade bread was amazing, kind of a sourdough which went well with the sauce. Great experience, we will be back for an anniversary.

    Enterocot with potatoes and vegetables!

One of the best dining experiences of my life! I was visiting here during the summer and we stumbled onto this place by chance. They only seat by reservation only but luckly they had a table available for us. The waitress was absolutely attentive to our evening and our meal. She recommended what we should get and to order our meat "pink". I ordered the enterocot with potatoes and vegetables. It was was cooked to perfection and honestly it was the beat peice of steak I have ever had. I never eat the fat on the steak but I loved it on this steak. It was so complementing to the meat. Every bite was really amazing sometimes I had to close my eyes and just enjoy the tastes and flavors. It was unbelievably good. For dessert we had the almond tart which was very sweet and different. Overall one of the best dining experiences of my life. If you are ever in paris you MUST hit this place up. I will definitely be back.

The richness of the flavor and the texture which is not reminiscent of the traditional roasted duck or foie gras, but rather a much more like a luxurious and indulgent version. We enjoyed our dinner on the outside of the restaurant after about a 20-30 minute wait. The bone marrow had the best flavor I've experienced for the dish. However, it is definitely overshadowed by the rich flavor of the foie gras. This experience was unforgettable, with our view of Parisian streets on a brisk, April night. We even came back on our last night, but didn't realize the hours on Google maps was for the deli. The restaurant closes earlier, before 9:00 PM. This meal got us thinking about Paris in a positive light, and we hope to be able to come back to eat the amazing dishes again!

They had a number of goods to choose from and I ended up buying a few things for souvenirs. As for the actual restaurant, they had a number of delicious sounding items on their menu. Our server was very attentive to us and helped us decide on our dinner orders. Similar to the other restaurants though. After our food was delivered, it was far in between when we were checked on again. And after dessert it took even longer for our server to bring the bill. Overall, the food was a letdown. I do not exaggerate when I say that the frog legs just tasted like slightly flavored water. My friend's ravioli had a fairly decent flavored sauce but the pasta was a bit chewy. My friend's duck breast was pretty tough; I had noticed the table next to us also ordered it and they seemed to have trouble finishing/cutting theirs as well. As for my steak with foie gras, well the steak was once again tough and the foie gras was weirdly stringy. It was soft for the most part but there were parts that were tough and stringy. Maybe that's a section that's generally separated in the preparation process and it was missed? In any case it was disappointing. What wasn't disappointing was dessert though; perfectly sweet and balanced.

There are two tables essentially in the kitchen (a true "Chef's Table" arrangement) and maybe 6 tables in the adjoining room. We were welcomed warmly. Deborah was the hostess and server. Chef Hugo is visible in the kitchen, working very hard to make everything just perfect. They brought bread immediately (my husband loved the sliced baguette--it was perfect and chewy as it should be, but not hard). We ordered a bottle of wine, a Macon Villages, which was perfect. I had the cucumber salad appetizer, which was so fresh. My husband ordered the ravioli appetizer--tiny little rectangles in a scrumptious sauce--a work of art. I ordered the fish and shrimp plate. The sauce was amazing and it was a huge portion of tender white fish. My husband had the lamb with frites. It was nicely seasoned & perfectly done. For dessert, my husband enjoyed a chocolate treat and I had refreshing raspberry sorbet. Deborah was so friendly and solicitous throughout the meal. I have never felt so well taken care of. (I have seen some comments from people who are unhappy that they can't just walk in. They don't appear to understand that there is only one seating. People arrive when they do and they linger. Empty tables seen from the street do not mean the place is not fully booked. Make a reservation well ahead of time. It is worth it!)
