This is a long overdue review from my best restaurant experience in Paris in 2018. The soups were amazing! I dream of returning for another meal here. We did not have reservations. Every table was filled with patrons. I held a little hope that if we inquired in our best Canadian française, we might be fortunate. To my most pleasant surprise, they asked us to wait as they anticipated a table to complete their dining experience shortly and in enough time to be able to serve us prior to closing for the evening. On my second trip to Paris, I made sure to return here, and I was not disappointed. Honestly, one of my favorite restaurants in the WORLD. Not just Paris, not just Europe. The food is spectacular. The service is friendly. It's just creative, tasty, and has me wanting to order everything off the menu. They have menus in English and the staff speaks English. Make sure to have a reservation. The deposit reservation system can be annoying, but I understand its purpose. The menu changes often, so make sure to let your friends know that when they make a visit. Amazing is what I call Le Casse Noix! A very small yet quaint restaurant with a lot of details into the place. I see that the chef was a very Michelin driven by all the Michelin books that the on their high book shelves. Let's start by complementing the fresh baked bread and the duck liver pate spread... it was unbelievable on how it taste, I wanted to just pack the pate to go and have it for the next few days with my baguette. The first dish was a duck soup.. wow, wow, wow! Words can't describe on how the soup had tasted. The flavoring all came together with the duck, crispy duck floating in the soup. The beef dish was my next course. The beef was so tender & full of flavors to the beef. I couldn't believe beef could even cooked this tender and juicy, it was mind blown. The BEST part of all meal, THE DESSERT! The floating meringue... so effortless and so yummy to my tummy! It was so light and fluffy, I can't believe how light this meringue had tasted and how it hold up its structure! I wanted to indulged it all but I was so full from everything I tried to squeeze into my belly! This prefixed menu was probably the #1 on my help list! Highly recommend Le Casse Noix to anyone! My husband and I ate here for lunch on a Tuesday and were not disappointed! As tourists from the US, the staff treated us incredibly well and everyone was so kind. Our server and all of the waitstaff were friendly and accommodating (bringing us a menu in English as well)! When we were done, our server called us a cab to pick us up outside. The service was outstanding. When we were seated we got chicken pate with fresh bread. We got the "red meat salad" and chestnut soup for starters. We then got the beefsteak and potatoes and wild boar casserole for mains. For our dessert I got the cheese course and my husband got the sorbet. Everything was spectacular and delicious! The restaurant itself was quaint and welcoming. The decor was classic French and you can see the collection of nutcrackers if you look around. One of my favorite meals in Paris and our last meal. We had a reservation right at opening and the restaurant was empty (6PM). They kept getting calls about walk ins and numerous people tried to walk in - they were all rejected. So if you wish to come here, make sure you make a reservation! The servers knew English and even provided us English menus along with a chalkboard that showed the daily specials in English. That was super helpful. The only knock I have is that we asked for Sparking water and instead got still water (and you have to pay for water). The menu changes often, so I'm not really going to go into it much. But the food was great - I don't really think you can go wrong here. Be careful of your entrees, however. For example, my husband got a boar dish thinking it'd be cooked but it was a boar pate type dish with figs. Although it was good, those dishes are not for everyone. Additionally, you can ask for butter for your bread if you don't like the pate that it comes with and bread refills as well. Everything we had was tasty and my fish cost a few extra Euros, but ti was a pretty hefty amount of fish. Loved the desserts - perfectly balanced and tasty without being too sweet. 39 Euros per set menu with some choices costing additional euros. Overall, worth the trip to come here! We also walked back to the metro at night and passed by the Eiffel Tower on the way while it was lit up. read more

Simply a great all around meal and experience worthy of 5 stars which I RARELY do. The staff was attentive and we enjoyed how the senior waiter was attentively training his young staff. Delicious food and great value! My husband and I went here on our honeymoon in France. We both ordered the "multi choice menu" that comes with an appetizer, main course, and dessert for €42. We both started with the chilled tomato soup, which was an excellent version of a gazpacho. For main courses we had the tuna special and the tomato farcie (tomatoes stuffed with beef). Everything was excellent and for only €42 it was a good deal, especially compared to all of the tourist trap cafés near the Eiffel Tower. But they are still friendly to tourists. one of the best meals I've had in pairs.. and that's including a two-star Michelin restaurant! an incredible meal from start to finish. the service was outstanding, and the atmosphere was perfect. the environment was casual (which i liked) and was really comfy and homey. the menu is relatively limited, which is pretty common in France, since everything is very fresh. it's a prix fixe menu for a great deal! i think it's 39 euros for an outstanding meal, including a starter, entree, and dessert. i decided to try a lot of the specials that cost a couple of extra euros but were so worth it. everything i had was delicious. the veal chuck (special), which i would never try, was outstanding. even the rice pudding, which is typically a boring dessert, was made to perfection. i could go on and on, but you really just need to try it yourself! it's a meal I'll be talking about for a while and can't wait to go back to Paris to have it again. read more

Of all the places we dined in Copenhagen and Paris, this place was my husband's favorite restaurant. I also enjoyed my "chef's special", as they kindly made vegan accommodations. I told them I would be happy to try anything that they can easily "veganize" from today's special. Took a short hike from nearby Pullman Hotel to this place, and it happens to be our last dinner outing here in Paris so I was like wishing and hoping for some amazing food...and so it was! For starters, grilled scallops in creme sauce, yum! Main for me was the roasted shrimp with risotto, yum! While wife had the pork filet in bbq sauce, (tastes like adobo) yum! To finish, banana 'nille fevilie' with ice cream, double yum! Had to pay a few Euros extra for the grilled scallops and roasted shrimp but well worth it! Our favorite meal in Paris thus far. 34 euros for a starter, main, and dessert. I got the mushroom, ham, and poached egg starter, which tasted like a very awesome brunch dish. Grilled shrimp for my main, which was an extra 5 euros, and usually comes with saffron pasta but was replaced with salad and potatoes because of allergies. The shrimp tasted fresh, juicy, and bouncy, and the potatoes were buttery smooth - maybe a tad too buttery, as they were swimming in a bowl of butter. My dessert, a mango and passion fruit mousse, was divine and beautifully presented. Not too sweet and lots of delicate flavors. My boyfriend ordered the warm potato salad, veal, and cheese plate and very much enjoyed everything. Our waiter was friendly, helpful, and spoke great English. The interiors are comfortable and cozy. We had gone to this restaurant near the end of the trip, but had we had more time, we would have loved to come here more than once just to try more of the menu - it was that amazing. This place was awesome! They serve up the type of food one thinks of when imagining french food: rich and delicious! When we arrived, we were able to be seated right away. The menu and the specials on the chalk board were of course in french, but they also had english descriptions, which was helpful, since I don't know the french words for every ingredient in the dishes. We got a three course meal for a good price, about 35 euro each. Our meal started out with complimentary bread and paté spread. It was so delicious and as much as I love butter, it was a nice change from the usual bread and butter. My first course was by far my favorite dish that evening: creamy soup with duck liver mouse, shaved truffle and bacon: a heart attack in dish to be sure, but worth the risk of blocked arteries; it was nothing short of heavenly! My husband's first course was slices of duck- cooked to perfection- with a small salad. My entree was grilled hake fish, which was good, but less memorable than the soup. My husband enjoyed his pork entree too. For dessert, we had a pot au chocolat topped with hazelnut whipped cream and chopped hazelnuts. I love the combination of chocolate and hazelnut, so I really enjoyed it. This was our favorite meal in Paris. What a find! It showed up in our guidebook as a restaurant with great food not too far from the Eiffel Tower. I usually assume there's no chance of getting anything special close to such a tourist attraction, but this place proved us wrong. They're obviously very much used to dealing with tourists, and they're accommodating with English translations which was very much appreciated. They had a wonderful three course option. If you are looking for a fantastic dining experience in Paris, come here! It's a fairly small space, so either make reservations or arrive early. We did not have reservations but arrived shortly after they opened and were seated right away (about half-way through our meal every seat in the restaurant was filled). You can tell its a locals spot, which I absolutely love. The complimentary Liver Mousse is incredible (and a generous portion!) and comes with a basket of warm, delicious bread. Their menu is prix fixe, so be aware of that. For 3 courses (a starter, a main, and a dessert) it starts at 33€. There are a few options that have an additional/premium charge but they are clearly marked. I opted for the Stuffed Mushroom starter the Steamed Cod with Risotto for my main, and the Rice Pudding for dessert. As overused as they are, the best words I can come up with for my meal are "incredible" and "delicious" because they truly were. The Stuffed Mushrooms were beautifully done and offered an amazing culinary experience as they were eaten. Texturally and flavorfully done to perfection. The Steamed Cod was perfectly done (as sometimes steamed fish has an off texture) and was flakey and not overlooked. It was set atop perfectly executed and delicious risotto. The Rice Pudding is a must-order! But be warned: its a VERY large portion! I was only able to finish a small amount of it, but it was exceptional. Everything, I mean everything about our meal was wonderful. The food was incredible, the service was kind and friendly (they spoke a small bit of English and we know a tiny amount of French and we got by), and the wine was fantastic as well. With 2 of the prix fixe dinners (both with at least one premium charge) and a half-bottle of wine our total came to about 130€. Bustling bistro fare near the Eiffel Tower. Waiters are proficient in English and menu is written in both English and French. Plenty of local people eat here. Decor is warm. Complimentary pate and bread start the prix fixe meal which is about 34 euros with some upcharges for certain items. Scallops appetizer was fantastic. My wife had the mushroom appetizer and was slightly disappointed in the seasoning. My son had the rainbow trout appetizer with avocado cream and beets which was delicious. Main course my wife chose the pork filet mignon which was a great rustic dish full of flavor. I chose the veal special and it was slightly dry as I had ordered it medium (chef recommended medium rare). Hubs and I dined here on our last night in Paris. I was looking forward to our meal, as the culmination of two weeks in France. I am sad to say that I was not as pleased as I should have been. The restaurant was located fairly close to our fancy hotel, in the 15th arrondissement. We walked there, and felt lucky to get a table, as we did not have a reservation. We were seated, I spoke French, and then I heard someone call out that they should give us the "anglais" menu. It never occurred to me that the menu in English would be different from the menu in French. I thought the choices to be a little bland and not very exciting, compared to some of the other restaurants we had been to, but I brushed it off as traditional French, and ordered. A bit later, I noticed a hand written menu on the wall. I asked both our server and the owner if the English and French menu were the same. I received a snooty reply of "yes, I wrote it myself in the morning". I got up to take another look at one of the menus at the door. Even the printed menu in French was different than the English. "What is your problem with the menu?!" a haughty voice above me quizzed. When I told him, in French, that we were not told about the written menu, he said, "oh that is in addition to the printed menu." Remember, he insisted that the handwritten menu and the printed menu in English were the same. So, basically, he lied to me, and didn't think that I could speak or understand French. This sort of interaction does not make the experience any better, to find out that you have been handed the blandest of menu items, and you could have had onglet with roasted potatoes, or grilled shrimp, with a fresh pasta, and a cheese plate for dessert. The meal was average. And, by average, I mean that the food was very higher end cafeteria style. Hubs ordered the grilled hake, a fish, and I ended up with the grilled shrimp, gambas a la plancha. We shared a dessert, the profiteroles, which were quite lovely in presentation, but truly tasted like stale twinkies. The best part of the meal was the assiette de fromage, which was a cheese plate that we decided to get in place of the second dessert. The service felt more like I was eating at an American restaurant, complete with the "hurry up and get out so I can seat more people" vibe, which is completely contrary to French dining. As an FYI, most restaurants that I have been to, on my many trips to France, allow you to get an entree and a plat, which is an appetizer and main course, or a plat and dessert, or all three. Here, we had no choice but to get all three. Not a problem, but just know this is the case. I gave the restaurant two stars because not only did I feel cheated out of a good dining experience, the food just was not that good, for the price. I found this restaurant to be a rather bland and uninteresting French dining experience. There are so many other excellent, interesting, traditional and more experimental French restaurants, please, if you can, try one of those, and skip this one. read more

Small and fabulous. Be sure to make a reservation. It's amazing how well two people working a room can take care of everyone. Well enough to earn Bib Gourmand from Michelin. Although some of the credit probably goes to the chef too. I had a delicious dinner, starting with white asparagus, moving on to their merlu fish special (hake) and ending with their signature dessert - a giant bowl of creamy rice pudding with a small side bowl of caramel sauce. The fish was moist, tender, and smothered in a ratatouille-like sauce with tasty fresh vegetables. The caramel and rice pudding combination wasn't that unique, it's just something I've never had in combination before. Try it, you'll like it! read more

This is where you should eat while visiting Paris. This small restaurant was our favorite during our week in the city. Make sure to make a reservation, the space is small! Since we speak embarrassingly little French, the staff was willing to help us translate the menu and help my husband traverse his dairy allergy. I started with the carrot soup. In presentation and taste, it was incredible. My husband really enjoyed the duck he had for a main course. For dessert, the chocolate lava cake made me swoon. Then, after you are finished eating, you can walk over to the eiffel tour to see it sparkle. read more

This was one of the best meals I have ever had, anywhere. Not a single aspect of the meal left me disappointed, including the price. Very reasonable, our group had 4 courses and wine for less than €45. I would have expected to pay at least twice this for a meal of this quality in NYC.
