This was delicious and perfect for a kid's appetizer. Petit!
    Paul B.

We eat out about 3-4x a week and the best restaurants are always the ones (even at their worst) that would never leave a patron hungry. The "petit" portions and prices here are out of control and should be an embarrassment. As an example: The family next to us was a great example of starving children--first world edition. I was thinking about augmenting my salmon dish with another dish, just in case I got hungry, but when the crêpe arrived to the table next to us, the young boy looked disappointed. It was tiny and apparently they are not made fresh because when I asked they said they only had one more. How does one run out of crepes? Maybe no more bananas or Nutella? After he finished eating it, he was scraping every sign of Nutella drizzle from his plate, and then I heard him say what I think all of us were feeling. "Mom, I'm still hungry" with which his mom asked the server for something else, and meanwhile, my husband and I looked at each other and smirked in accord. Our dishes (shown) were about $18 each and we did leave dissatisfied and still hungry. The quality of the food was very good, but two shrimp tacos with barely anything inside them was literally shameful and shocking, and my husband who had low blood sugar was hoping this would help but it did nothing. The place is undoubtedly charming, the servers wonderful and accommodating, but the food on a Sunday brunch needs to be reviewed, and attention must be paid to the fact that brunches are usually the first meal of the day for many, and with that people expect something substantial to kick off the day until dinner. Add another taco. And don't let us ask for more bread or another meal for another $18. It doesn't fly. If you want a hearty brunch I suggest another restaurant.

    Roasted bone marrow

This place was recommended to me by coworkers, and I had stopped by after a day at the spa. Food was ok. Shrimp scampi sauce was flavorful but I thought it would be made with pasta (my fault for assuming that it was a pasta dish I guess). My partners lamb ragu was ground instead of off a lamb shank - tasted like when we make ground beef with pasta from home. The restaurant five feet from my house had a better meat with pasta combo. HOWEVER, bone marrow was great. But it's disappointing to have good appetizers followed by mid entrees that all average around $30. I heard the raw oysters were great, maybe I should've gotten that? Service was average. Our waitress was friendly and came in a timely manner. The ambiance is nice. I'd only come back for the bar or appetizers. Although since I'm an hour from here I'd probably check out another restaurant if I come back to Rhinebeck.

This place is just okay. They frequently run out of dishes at the last serving that you only find out about when you're about to order.

My group of friends stayed for lunch at Bocuse for two hours. Oh what a culinary delight!…read more I've been wanting to go to a restaurant at the Culinary Institute of America for some time now. My friends and I were visiting the nearby Vanderbilt house and when I looked at CIA there was a 11:45 am opening left at Bocuse and I snagged it. CIA students alternate between doing the cooking and doing the serving at the CIA restaurants. Since we went in February, it was $30 each for a three course meal. It's $45 starting in mid April. We started off with freshly baked rolls and artisanal butter which was delicious and they asked us throughout the meal if we wanted more. For my first course I chose the garlic and butter drenched escargot which was deliciously marinated. Then I had the chicken in cream sauce with potato purée. Delicately delicious. And lastly my four layer chocolate in a glass had different chocolate and other flavors at each layer point. Overall a feast for the senses. Our student servers were charming and patient. They answered all our questions about their study. I look forward to trying additional CIA restaurants- they have Italian, New American and more. La Bocuse is a must try next time you're in the area.

I was pleasantly surprised by my experience at Gigi's during a family trip to the Hudson Valley…read more The aggregated 3.5 star rating (at the time we visited) had me thinking "it's probably fine" but didn't expect much more. I got more! We were in the back room with a large 2 family party and everyone had a good experience. The staff was attentive and took great care of us. The star of the show for me was the Bianca "Skizza" - Skizzas are what they call their pizza-like experience....super thin dough, not quite NYC style in its taste and texture, but at least as thin with a unique overall texture and flavor to it. The kind of taste that sticks with you and makes you wonder "when can I have that again." I tend to get margherita or a basic tomato cheese situation to suss out any place offering pizza of any kind, but strayed from my comfort level and went for the Bianca which was truly a delicious experience. Gigi Rosemary Fig Jam, Pear, Arugula, Goat Cheese, Mozzarella, Truffle Oil created a super delicious and crave worthy experience. I finished the whole pie by myself with no issues. (Okay, maybe my wife had a slice, it's hard to remember...I just remember every bite being delicious.) There are other vegetarian options including pastas and a lentil soup. Plus a delicious looking "Barbina" salad, and the menu is helpfully labeled with which items are vegetarian. There was something for everyone at Gigi's and everyone in our 16 member+ party was happy to have eaten there.
