We just had the best meal ever in Dutchess County. Our third at Champetre, starting in August. Every one was great, this meal was outstanding. The menu has changed slightly, with sweetbreads added to the appetizers. Done perfectly, with a great sauce. She had the duck breast and it could not have been better. Served with a fine fig sauce (not my favorite), and ratatouille (my favortite) Champetre is the best new restaurant to come onto the scene years. We look forward to our next visit. read more

PERFECTION! I called for a reservation to celebrate mine & my husband's 15YR Anniversary here on a November Sunday evening. The woman on the phone was quite lovely and said they'd make it special. They 100% delivered! Upon entry, a lovely lady greeted us and sat us at the only corner banquet table in the restaurant. The restaurant itself is deceptively large with high ceilings, plenty of tables with space between, a bar towards the back, and kitchen behind it. Our waitress arrived with 2 glasses of champagne for us to start our evening with a toast, which was lovely. She was very personable, professional, & prompt. The support staff was great too and never had an empty glass of water or a dirty dish on the table. An older French gentleman greeted us, as well, and I think he was the owner. When our food arrived, it was one superb dish after the other, and we ordered a lot! From apps, to entrees, to dessert, all were delicious. This was the PERFECT way for us to celebrate our anniversary and I HIGHLY recommend a beautiful dining experience here! read more

Champetre is located in a small niche on Main Street in Pine Plains, New York. The evening we arrived at our Inn we walked to the restaurant. It was raining hard that night with slight fall chill in the air. Our reservations were for 8:00 and we couldn't be happier. Champetre's entrance was dotted with small, warm lights. It was a beautiful foreshadowing leading into an open room that was cozy with small groupings of tables and laughter from the guests seated. Our dining experience was 'picture perfect' from the beginning with the warm welcome of our hostess, the attentiveness of our knowledgeable server to the close of our night meeting the chef. My husband had the seafood medley and I had roasted chicken, both memorable meals. We highly recommend this quaint and elegant restaurant as a stop for fine wine and an excellent meal and especially, to meet a chef and staff that knows how to serve "heaven" on a plate! read more

I had an extremely unpleasant experience here. I ordered the duck breast with root vegetables. The veggies were uncooked, unable to cut with a knife told the server nothing was offered as a solution. The chef came out to rudely lecture me. I had lived in France and know that this was not fine dining never returning just awful and arrogant. So as much as I want to support a local business they have no understanding of the art of hospitality. read more

We wanted to love this place that was highly recommended and it is darling, almost like eating in someone's home so we hate to be a tad critical, but....We hope our criticisms are viewed constructively. The wine pour was generous but the salad was drenched in dressing, which was good but would have been better with less. One diner loved the sea bass; the other not so much the risotto which was lukewarm when served and very soupy. But mostly what annoyed us was the loud music, which had no Parisian relationship; we asked to have it turned down so we could converse. On the plus side, the menu is limited yet has a lovely variety of choices. read more

Shocked to find this level of French cooking tucked away in the small hamlet of Pine Plains. Were it not so far a drive, I'd be back weekly. I'm searching hard for a criticism but can only come up with the fact that the frites were a touch oversalted. Otherwise, it was a flawless experience in every regard. Go!! read more

We sat outside on a magnificent late Spring evening. Our selections included fried baby artichokes, terrine, beef tartare, duck confit, and tarte tatin. From start to finish, absolutely superb from all standpoints. If you appreciate a truly fine meal in a lovely setting, this is where you will find it. Very highly recommended. read more
