Cafe Les Baux is the absolute best restaurant!! We always love coming to eat here. Wonderful staff, beautiful decor and amazing food!

New owners did a very nice job with the redecorations. Place looks very nice inside. The food still tastes delicious. However the prices are much higher and on a busy night, they have only 2 waitresses and a cook. The waitresses answer the phones, greet and seat people. Take the orders, make the drinks, serve and clear the tables. So very slow. Waited 30 minutes after finishing to get bill and pay it. Not surprisingly, the bill we got was a combination of our main entrees and another tables appetizers. Hope they hire some help. read more

My first impression was what an ugly slovenly place. My kir royale was horrible.... Certainly not a kir royale. The person who made it certainly did not use 2 ingredients, champagne and cassis liqueur. I left and paid for the drink. The menu is 1940-50 France. Loved it. We went to celebrate our friend's birthday, and it was perfect. The service could have not been nicer and the everybody loved their dish. I ordered the mussels and I was very happy how tender and clean they were. Soups were also delicious. Atmosphere was nice. Wished more people would know about this hidden gem. read more

Gf of mine found this little French cafe/bistro in upstate NY. We were in the mood for something different. Saw the menu online and ordered the escargot & endive salad as an appetizer. For the main course, got the duck breast and steamed mussels. Dessert: cappuccino and apple tartin. Everything was delicious! Presentation was simple and appetizing. I would highly recommend this establishment if you're ever up here! Would definitely come back. Service was super friendly. And they were quick with the meal preparation and delivery. They have a finely tuned operation. Place was also clean. Highly recommend making reservations as it's a small place and tables fill up fast. :) read more

During our "meetiversary" weekend, we arranged to have dinner with friends who now live up in Vermont. I used meetways.com to find a halfway point between our two homes and the town of Millbrook, NY popped up. A decent 86 miles from my home, I decided to scan Yelp and Trip Advisor for restaurants in the area. My eyes scanned over Les Baux, and as a fan of French cuisine, it was on my list. My friend later told me SHE discovered it as well, so we took it as a sign and made a reservation for the first sitting of the evening. That would allow us to drive there and back in the same day, while enjoying a meal in between. The restaurant is located in the downtown area of Millbrook and there is on-street parking. We were there just as they opened for dinner service, 5pm. I perused the menu before we left and I knew I wanted French onion soup. I am a seafood lover, so I planned to order the filet of sole prepared meuniere style. The venue is small, serving about 40 people at a time. We were seated off to the right and it was a really cozy room. There was ample space for the six of us to sit comfortably yet not be on top of nearby tables. There was a sign on the door that said "wear mask upon entering", and I wasn't sure if we still needed to. Luckily all of us had a mask on us. All of the waitstaff and hostess were wearing masks when we walked in, so I was glad I read the signage on the door. We were offered tap or sparkling water. Our glasses were filled promptly. We were told about some wine specials and some of us opted for a glass of their house wine. Our server read off the specials from a chalkboard that she carried to the table. Once I heard that whole trout was offered, I changed my entree order I had pre-planned. THE GROWS: We were told upon booking about the 2 hour limit at our table. This needs to be in place because the venue is not large--quite understandable. We were politely asked to leave the table since our check was settled. My "grow" is because there is no area for the next round of diners to wait, and as we walked out, the patron who was among the party about to use our table said something nasty to us. THIS IS NOT THE RESTAURANT'S FAULT--sometimes there are cranky people having a bad day who do not have the class to keep their comments to themselves. I'd suggest a bench out front for people to sit in while waiting for their table to be cleaned. THE GLOWS: For appetizers, we stared with the French onion soup, escargot, ouffes mayonaise, asparagus soup (special that day) and mushroom soup (special that day). I sampled my friend's escargot, which were aromatic with garlic and seasoning and cooked to perfection. My French onion soup had onions that were super thinly sliced--outrageous! TONS of cheese in the steaming hot crock. The baguette they served with fresh butter was homemade and warmed. Our bread basket was refilled without asking. My entree special, the trout prepared almondine, was covered in toasted and seasoned almonds. A vegetable medley and rice adorned the plate. My portion was huge so I shared the remainder with someone so as not to waste it. For dessert, we had the mini Madelines which came with warm chocolate sauce, creme brulee and the tarte a tatin. I enjoyed the cafe liegeois, which was three generous scoops of coffee ice cream, caramel sauce, whipped cream, and a small pitcher of coffee to pour over the top. For coffee lovers like me, this was pure heaven and the perfect ending to a memorable meal. They have at least 8-10 (maybe more) dessert options. The dessert menu is not visible on their website, but they hand you a copy when preparing for that course. Les Baux is definitely a shining star not far from the Taconic, and worth the detour if you are passing through the area. On a French restaurant tour--this one was a disappointment. The fish and vegetables were good, but served barely warm, on a cold plate. The tarte tatin was more like a French influenced apple pie, with big apple chunks and no glazed surface. I asked for it warm, and again it was just barely, and on another cold plate. For an authentic tarte and cuisine, go to Le Canard Enchaine in Kingston. read more

We've been here several times now and have had wonderful experience. The Restaurant is not big, about 8-10 tables total. It may seem to be a formal place but they are super accommodating when you bring child(ren) here... As we have with our 3 yr old daughter. I don't think they have one bad dish. We've had the lamb burger, croque monsueir, mussels, duck, etc. The soups are great too. Everything is delicious. You can always count on having a great meal here. read more

Reserved for my birthday and it did not disappoint. (I lived many years in Quebec and Belgium and can tell when something is not authentically francophone so was not surprised when the waitress told me the chef was French). For starters the service was truly excellent-very attentive and everyone was super friendly and came back frequently to check in on everything. We ordered the endive salad and frisée lardon along with the onion soup. All very tasty. For main course the kids had the lamb burger and chicken. My husband had la truite à l'amandine/trout with almonds and I had the lamb chops. The lamb was perfectly cooked and came with delicious dauphinois potatoes and green beans. Couldn't have been better. And honestly it's hard to get potatoes like that in the US where they really taste like they're actually dauphinois style. For dessert we ended up with crème brûlée, peach Melba and cafe liegeois. All super satisfied with everything. A rare five stars. read more

Two of us arrived for lunch to an empty restaurant. The hostess asked if we had a reservation and we said no. She proceeded to lecture us that one must have one as she showed us to a table. We were given water and basically ignored thereafter. Another party came after us and were immediately served bread and drinks. Finally, my friend got up to let them know we were ready to order, only to have the hostess demand we give her a minute and one must have a reservation. Was a lunch guest on a rainy winters afternoon during COVID. The food is the draw with a chef who hails from Brittany guaranteeing a solid French casual menu. The atmosphere is cute and the restaurant has the feel of a neighborhood haunt with a battery of regulars - no bad thing in the current environment. I chose the escargot which came piping hot. We had another excellent meal with sole with butter parsley and lemon a trout, deboned and without head, plus the usual mix of mixed vegetables. It was as good as usual and very nice service. Our only complaints are that the bread doesn't come warm and does come with hard cold butter. And this time one of us asked for a sprinkle of almonds for the sole...a sprinkle...not a huge quanity and there was an upcharge on the bill of $1.50. Maybe, next time we bring our own almonds. What an amazing, culinary experience in the Hudson Valley. I'll even go as far as saying THE MOST AUTHENTIC food you will ever put in your belly. Period. The last time I went to this restaurant which was just 3 weeks ago, I ordered lamb chops which on the menu were $41.00 and there were 8 of them as described in the menu. I ordered a glass of Pinot Grigio which was in a large wine glass and was half full.I was charged $9.00 for the wine. Everything was great. Went back today and was charged $41.00 again but for 6 lamb chops.On top of that they gave me a tiny wine glass that was not even half full and charged me $13.00 for it. When I asked about the difference in the glass sizes, she said they had run out of the small ones last time! This is very unprofessional. read more

Thoroughly enjoyed this restaurant, we were in Millbrook for our 10th anniversary and chose this place on the Saturday evening... I had smoked salmon followed by duck and the crepes suzette to finish. My husband had Mussels followed by filet of sole and a brandy as dessert. The food was excellent, if I had any complaint it was that mine was slightly salty (but that's my personal preference of salt levels), for my husband they needed to cook the wine on the mussels off a little more... but these are quibbles and didn't spoil an excellent meal. Most importantly the staff were amazing, they didn't stop, they were in control all the time and were polite and courteous. If you are in Millbrook NY don't miss a meal here. read more

We came up from NYC for the Millbrook Winery tasting and found great yelp reviews on this restaurant, so we decided to give it a try. We called to make reservations several days in advance since we had such a large group. This restaurant was excellent! We had a group of 12 celebrating a birthday and they kindly accommodated us. The ambiance is intimate and very small town. The staff was amazing! A couple loved the asparagus soup and another couple thoroughly enjoyed the mushroom soup. Both of these were daily specials. I, and several others, loved the classic French onion soup. It was a cheesy, gooey bowl of deliciousness! The cheese was bubbly and toasty when it came out to the table. We had the steak frites for dinner with the mesclun salad. It was tender, juicy, and the pomme frites were the perfect amount of crunchy and salty. We topped it off with crema brûlée and warm Madelines served with chocolate sauce. A perfect ending for a well enjoyed meal. read more

Decided to try Les Baux because of the five star reviews and their claim to be Zagat rated #1 French Bistro in Dutchess and Westchester Counties. It took a couple of minutes to be greeted, then asked if we had a reservation. We did not because usually we like to sit at the bar, but they don't have one. No problem, we were able to get a table. Place was empty on the side we sat on although they said they have many reservations. The menu and prices are completely different online, needs to be updated. We ended up just getting a couple of small things to share. The onion soup was delicious according to my boyfriend. We got a side of fries, wish they came out hotter. The biggest surprise was the cheese plate, or lack of cheese. It looked like a preschooler created the presentation. Some fruit and raw nuts in the middle of plate then 4 small chunks of cheese. Nothing else...no crackers, perhaps jam or honey??? Crazy for $20 bucks! Definitely could have been more refined for a five star restaurant. read more

Amazing food and wonderful service! We took a 10 mile detour from our route to come here, and we will do that again! Started with French onion soup (perfect) and goat cheese salad (amazing), moved to the sole meunière (delicious) with frites, which were also amazing. Also had the cod with a gingery sauce (again, perfection) and potatoes au gratin (best I've had). Finished with the desserts, and we finally remembered to take a picture. The creme brûlée was out of this world and the crepes had the perfect ratio of filling to crepe. Cannot say enough good things. read more

Hostess: well we get busy . Good part ; our appetizers and entrees were delicious. Also we ordered a nice bottle of wine ,that was terrific. Still felt a bit rushed. Ordered a crème breule and it was tiny and top was burnt . They didn't care for my comment and was told they tried it and thought it was fine. Last I must say in these times ,when a customer spends $200. on dinner and wine . I don't think I should be rushed or questioned about a dessert that wasn't prepared properly. We didn't have much time, so we made a whirlwind decision to stop in here. (Actually, we were heavily influenced by the family heading in in front of us who assured us that "the food here is truly excellent.") They did not lie. The cafe is proud that their chef was formerly a sous-chef at Tavern on the Green, but the food here is better than anything I ever had at Tavern on the Green. The atmosphere is cute and cozy, French country style, and nicely done. We got the lamb burger (so good! cooked perfectly!) and, well, I was debating whether I should order the ham and goat cheese on a baguette, or the Croque Monsieur. I ordered the former. I got the latter. (The waitress obviously had never taken even high school French; and mangled the menu items charmingly.) I'm completely forgiving, because this was the best Croque Monsieur I've ever had in my life. No kidding. It was just what I was meant to have. We complemented our food with a Belhaven's Scottish Ale and a Sam Smith's organic cider. Entertainment was provided by the lovely 'model' at the table near us discussing her plastic surgery with her 70-year-old date.
