The space is narrow when you walk in with a couple of high tables+stools then it opens up nicely (from the bit I saw) with a formal dining room on left. From classic spanakopita, Greek salad, seafood dishes, etc- there are plenty of other Greek staples to explore. When you walk into a place voted "The Best Greek Food in the Hudson Valley" all you can do is hope that it's true. While I haven't had much other Greek in this area, I can say that Opa stands tall as a solid spot! Generous portions of wonderful Greek fare. The falafel has a wonderful texture and is that vibrant green when you cut into it. The Gyro Sandwich is delightful and very well-portioned. Solid fresh Greek Salad as well. It's a cute spot on an adorable street where we got to eat outside and enjoy the weather. Disappointing. Calamari was overly fried and average at best. We each ordered the chicken souvlaki-- they were about half the size of what one would expect, and maybe had 6 cubes of chicken in each. Very busy here at lunch time on a Wednesday. Service was slow and didn't get checked on. I needed a water refill. The waitress was just running around constantly. Could barely catch her or ask for anything. However the Athena gyro was so yummy!! Could have had a little more meat but overall for lunch I think it was good. Very tasty. My wife and I were looking for a quick bite to eat for lunch on Saturday and we heard about this place on Wall Street in Kingston, NY, so we decided to try it. A nice little place that looks small but actually widens up when you get further in. The staff is very friendly and we were greeted by everyone as we came in and as we left. However, our review of the food is meh. I ordered a falafel pita sandwich and my wife had the chicken avocado pita sandwich. While the falafel was good, it didn't blow me away and seemed pretty ordinary. Also, the falafel and the lettuce, tomato, onion & tzatziki were on top of the pita, not inside it, which I found made the eating messy. I have had falafel in NYC many times and the places that I have gone have sliced the pita in half and put the makings inside the pockets. My wife had the same reaction to her pita, wondering why the fixings were on top of the pita and not inside. She also thought that the amount of chicken was pretty sparse and had an odd taste to it. We didn't get any dessert since my wife is allergic to nuts and almost everything had some kind of nuts. We just didn't feel there was really anything special about the food (which is not inexpensive) and it didn't make us want a return visit. read more

My wife and I have been coming to "Opa!" since 2017, this was our favorite place to eat in uptown Kingston until tonight... Unfortunately, we experienced mold in her tomato after being served our usual "Gyro Plates" Here's what happened... When we were served our entrees, my wife took a bite of her tomato and she saw some black within the middle of it and then spit out what was in her mouth and saw more. When we told our waitress, she looked at what we saw, was very concerned and said, "let me go show my boss." Another waitress came back and said "That was the stem of the tomato" which we disagreed. Then another waitress said "No, that's the stem," They tried explaining to us what the properties of a tomato stem which we are already very familiar with. We asked for our check and while we were waiting for our check, the "boss" brought out two tomatoes to show the green/tan like they're supposed to be, which did not match with ours. Yes there are plenty of diners and a couple of Mediterranean/turkish places but this style of Greek restaurant can't be found within a 45-60 minute drive. Well if you are familiar and already enjoy those type of Greek places then this will satisfy you and any craving you have. The gyro is comparable to places in Astoria, Queens. My dining partner loved it; I had expected a clear chicken broth. Spanakopita was more philo dough than spinach, so I wasn't happy with that choice. There were lots of empty tables outside Opa, so we thought "OK, let's just sit down and eat here quickly". The table wasn't set, it was just a regular outdoor white plastic picnic table. We happened upon Opa! on our way home from the West Point area. A little off the highway but worth the detour. One of us had a gyro sandwich, the other a gyro platter. The very generous portion of meat is off the roaster, not out of a package. The tzatziki was delish, the pita fresh. Fries were okay, not great. The service was a little less attentive than desired.
