We came in on a Saturday afternoon from New Paltz and were the only ones there. We were told to sit wherever we wanted. I had visited years ago and had a great experience so decided to come back. The owner makes everything fresh to order. I ordered a ginger elixir which was amazing. My mom had the lentil soup which was delicious! I ordered the chicken shawarma which was just as good as I remembered and the homemade dressing on the salad was sooo good! My mom had the kabob which was so tender and seasoned perfectly. I will never go to this restaurant again. I've eaten here twice. The last time was two years ago, when my partner and I said we would never come back. The problem wasn't the food, which is delicious middle eastern fare, but agonizingly slow service; it took us almost an hour to get our food. Yesterday I returned, because we were invited as part of a large party. There were probably 25-30 guests, plus a few other diners eating at tables inside and on the porch. Our waitress was working alone except for the cook, who was occupied with both making the food and also tending bar, from which she was largely absent. It took about a half hour to get our first order of drinks; we ordered Moscow Mules, but the drinks we were served did not even resemble those cocktails. They were instead some sort of ginger/Tang concoction and not good. Everyone told us a food order would take forever, but we knew we couldn't stay that long, so we just snacked on what the table had already ordered. Then we tried to order a second drink. One diner had ordered a mojito, which looked rather promising, so we ordered two of those. 45 minutes later (45 minutes!) there had been no action, so I went to the owner (also the cook and bartender) and asked what gives. She didn't know about our drinks order, but about a quarter of an hour later we were served two drinks that had the ice already melted and were therefore not only watered down but were unrecognizable as to the alcohol, but for the only fact that they did have fresh mint in them. When I went to pay our bar bill, I was shocked to see that we were being charged for these drinks all four at 15$ apiece. The waitress actually asked me if the second set of drinks were horrible. To which I replied yes, they were horrible. She said she was sorry several times, but did not offer to take them off the bill. I paid for them all, a total of $78 with tax and tip for four utterly unacceptable beverages. I'd have been fine with paying for the first two and calling it quits at that but it wasn't even offered. I like to support local business, but this one is just unacceptable. They need more staff, especially if they are going to have a large party of diners! The waitress was utterly overwhelmed (she was also quite young) and didn't know how to handle service much less the situation when you serve up what you yourself acknowledge as "horrible". Since the food is good, I wish the place were better, but it isn't and that's definitely it for me with this garden spot. read more

This place is cash only but there is an ATM there. I came with two friends for dinner and was blown away by the quality and flavor of the food. We shared the vegetarian sampler platter and halloumi salad to start. Every one of the dips was delish! The halloumi was fried to perfection and every bite was so fresh it didn't need dressing (which was served on the side) I had the goat cheese pesto flatbread, the pesto was... the best-o and the flatbread crust was so fluffy and crispy! I wish we had read ALL of the reviews before trying the Garden. It seems like you've got a 50-50 chance of having either a delightful Middle Eastern dinner, or a disastrous, prolonged, frustrating night. We lost the bet. Our waiter was flustered and inexperienced. The "bartender" spent the 2 1/2 hours we were there helping himself to random glasses of wine from the bar, and even other guests' bottles and chatting up locals. The owner/hostess was lovely upon arrival, but then disappeared into the kitchen. It took hours to get our food -- we were there after closing waiting! I wouldn't take the chance again. First time here and I was sooo impressed. Dreaming of going back! The food here is insanely flavorful and the ingredients all taste super fresh. Every item we ordered had a perfect balance of spices and you could just taste that everything is made to order. I am a falafel addict and I adooored the falafel and tahini dip. We also tried the goat chèvre pizza which was out of this world, super fluffy dough but also crisp crust (small size is more than enough!). The vegetarian dips plate is worth a try as well because it gives you a taste of everything. Upon recommendation from my nephew, (and he joined us!) some of us new to mediterranean cooking, 6 of us went to have dinner at the Garden House. We were seated on the front porch & since it was a tad chilly, the owner (Nahada) turned on the space heater which made it lovely. The food was outstanding the flavors were great and I had to take a doggie bag home (Chicken Tagine) because the serving was way too much! Others had a chicken schwarma sandwich and other types of different dishes and all raved about their food. For dessert we shared a slice of Halva which was delicious. I would warn people from coming here. My family and I wanted dinner and it looked like a really cute restaurant. The cook/server told us about a special. She was kind of pushing it on us but it seemed good enough. We ordered it but the dish ended up just being a ton of rice, some pieces of chicken and sauce. The only other thing we bought was 4 waters and it came to be 200 dollars. She did not tell anyone the price. All the tables near us got the exact same thing. Some more people arrived, she told them the special, never said the price. They were thinking of getting it but I quietly told them that it was very expensive. The menu posted outside the fence looked promising, so 4 of us went in. It was early and there were very few other diners seated. We ordered 1 lemonade, 2 hibiscus drinks and 1 water. The drinks came out promptly and eventually, we got a bottle of water. My friend really just wanted tap water and it took a while to get a glass. We ordered the large sample platter of hummus, lebneh and other salads to share. It took forever to arrive. These are cold dishes. There is no reason for the long wait. 3 pitas were included, for 4 people, and they were cold and stale. Before we finished eating that starter, 3 of the entrees arrived. The 4th one, halloumi salad, took more time. Again, the cold dish took a long time and it wasn't worth the wait. But we knew we were in an alternate universe when we overheard a conversation at the next table. The diners asked the wait person what's taking so long with their order and the wait person replied that she is not in the kitchen, so she has no idea. When we had a question about our bill, the same wait person said she did not know. My friend asked her if she would like us to wait while she investigates and she made a face and was nasty. And there's more, like the drunk guy smoking in our faces and the handwritten in pencil check. I'm laughing about it now, but it was a terrible and bizarre experience. read more

Usually, I take my time to write a review on Yelp, however my dining experience at this place was awful. When I arrived at the restaurant, there was no one present. After waiting several minutes in an empty restaurant, a lady came out and said I could sit anywhere I wanted to sit. Once I sat down, no one came to help us. Eventually, I had to get up and find the waitress to ask for help. Please keep in mind this place was empty, henceforth no excuse for not providing service. When I finally placed my order, no one came back. I waited 45 minutes and no one stopped by our table. Finally, I had to walk around outside to find the waitress and ask if our meal would be coming. She told me it would arrive shortly, which took another ten minutes. At last, I received my meal, a simple falafel wrap, which took almost an hour to prepare. The wrap was dry, flavorless and had no spice or sauce on it. I was expecting a nice homemade pita, but instead, the falafel was in a traditional American wrap It was supposed to come with a side salad and I never received it. While my wrap was reasonably priced, my friend's lemonade was not. They charged him 9 dollars for the lemonade. I kid you not. This was some of the worst customer service and the food was dry and flavorless. On top of all of that, I had to search for the waitress again just to pay the check. We even asked for the check and she couldn't find the decency to bring it to the table. My family and I were visiting from Brooklyn. We stopped in last night for some vegetarian food. We had no idea what to expect but our experience was hands down on of the best dining experiences we have ever had in the states. Every single person we encountered from the owner, to the bartenders to the other patrons to the person making repairs on the refrigeration system was  LOVELY! The ambiance was very laid back and inviting, there were tons of toys for our toddler to play with and she really had a blast exploring the beautiful garden. It was a much better situation than taking her to a typical restaurant where she squirms and gets frustrated after about ten mins. in her high chair. This place was great for small kids. The garden was fenced in on both sides and totally safe. We ordered the vegetarian sample platter which was delicious. Everything was fresh and homemade from scratch. We also ordered the spinach pie, eggplant parm and the Southwest pizza. The portions were huge and there was awesome value. Quality of the food was top notch and we found out that the owner/ chef makes everything by order on the spot. While the food was truly amazing the most special part about this experience was hands down the people. Everyone was so kind to our toddler and midway through some drinks and appetizers a drum was passed around and everyone danced to music and sang and laughed. It was truly an indescribable experience. Everyone was so joyous and free and it was a true reminder after the year we have all had that good people do exist in the world. What a wonderful find this was. If you want authentic Mediterranean food this is a place to come. We started out with grape leaves. They were rolled and covered in lemon, oil & mint. These were over a bed of chopped salad. Last time I tasted something like this was when my wife's Syrian Grandmother made them. We then had gluten free cheese pizza and a whole sea bass wood fired grilled on a platter. A little slow due to COVID but this place is a Mediterranean food treasure tucked in Rosendale, NY. This restaurant made me incredible happy. I recently moved to the Hudson Valley from NYC, and I love it--except for the lack of even half decent restaurants. And forget about getting something to eat after 8pm. Then I discovered Garden House fortuitously on my way to hike Joppenbergh Mountain, just behind the restaurant. The food was delicious and authentic. The menu stretches for miles. Even the creative, fresh pressed juices were great and just what I needed after a humid hike. We had the grape leaves, cold veggie platter with a variety of dips/spreads, falafel, and cheese borak. I also had a fresh carrot juice with ginger--so creamy you'd think there was milk added. The experience was like eating in a Mediterranean grandmother's kitchen. And it's worth repeating: A RESTAURANT IN THE HUDSON VALLEY OPEN UNTIL 10 PM!! Got the menus and looked over them for 30 minutes when a server finally came up and said nothing on the menu was available only their special. Got the food fairly quickly, 3 small pieces of chicken breast and a small leg over stale pita dipped in butter and like a pound of rice. Food was fine. Had to hunt the server down to ask for the check and when it came the total was $70. For 3 tiny pieces of chicken??? If it were $35 as a single dish that'd be on the pricier side. Another 15 minutes, we are hungry and very frustrated. I again ask the server about our order and am told they are being plated. It takes another ten minutes. One serving of fries contains a hair. I have to say the food is good. But the service is beyond horrible. Nice people who are so understaffed the weight is unbearable. We set our own table, had to ask for plates for our appetizer several times. The waiter had so little experience when he did finally bring out Cutlery we said to leave it and we would sort it out. The "cash only" sign was totally obscured by bushes. Not a big issue because they had an atm. BUT The atm only had $20 in it. I will never give this place my business. My family ordered take out using the online system. I paid in full and tipped (over $100), the order went through and I was given a confirmation. When I got to the restaurant to pick up the meal the women who barely greeted me said that she didn't receive any orders and walked away. I was very confused. I then looked at my phone and I got an email saying that the restaurant cancelled my order and I was refunded. I wish I knew this before I got to the restaurant. Anyways I explained the situation to the women she said in a very dismissive and rude way, "i cant make you food we are too busy tonight" and again walked away from me. Our entrees were very good but our issue was with our appetizer- we ordered an appetizer and they served it with toasted white bread instead of pita. They were apparently out which makes no sense for a Mediterranean restaurant They knew better and tried to pass it off on us. They should have been honest and not served it that evening. I can't comment on the food since we never got our order. Our experience this past Saturday night was among the worst I'v ever had at a restaurant. The service was beyond horrible. They claim they can't find workers so some of the locals volunteered to help out. If you call drinking their booze, eating their food and smoking cigarettes help then I hate to see what no help would be. We dined at Garden House on Feb 9, 2019 hoping to grab a meal and then head to the theatre. Not too crowded when we arrived, but customers kept rolling in as the night went on. The food was fantastic. From the Mediterranean sampler app to the flatbread, lamb chops and eggplant, the meal was excellent. Do not skip the Eggplant Carpaccio. This dish will definitely be ordered next time we dine here and I will definitely try to figure out how to grill this at home too. So the service.... Garden House did not have enough staff on for the Saturday crowd. What could have been a sad service story became an amazing story of neighbors helping neighbors. A small group of locals came into Garden House, saw the service issues at hand, and jumped in to help. They cleared tables, helped with orders and even worked to get bills reconciled so we could get to the show. What an amazing show of neighborly grace. Let me get right to the point: best middle eastern food I have had in this country in many years, maybe ever. Every dish was sparkly and flavorful and different and beautiful. The place itself was funky and cool. We sat outside on this incredible fall day after hiking on the Rosendale Trestle. The tables and decor were so inviting. Comfortable. My young kids were both hungry and cranky, so that upped the urgency a bit. The woman who answered seemed very confused as to why I would be calling a restaurant to order food. And down it went from there... It was painful to go through my order, but we slowly made it. She told me it would be 40 minutes. So I diligently waited, and showed up about 45-50 minutes later. Upon telling her that I had arrived to pick up my order, she said "Oh, I haven't started that yet. The owner is not here, its only me, and I have to serve the customers already here. Do you want to wait? I can make it in 30-40 minutes." Where to begin? 1. That is no way to run a business. 2. Ok, let's say that's the case. I get it, things happen. So when someone calls to order, you tell them that you are under-staffed, and you aren't taking phone orders. Problem solved. You DON'T take their order an then NOT COOK IT! What the @$#% is that nonsense? 3. At no time did she ever apologize, rather she had an air of annoyance that I would be asking her where my order is.
